Is it even possible for ANYONE to be a size 0/1?

This might be a stupid question but is it possible to every person to get down to a very low size such as 0 or 1? (Obviously not counting those with medical conditions or anything like that).
Last time I was a size 1 was 4 years ago when I was only 12 pounds lighter. Right now I'm a size 6 (same height). I'm starting to feel like there's no way I'm even capable of getting back into a size 1 because of my bone structure changing as I've gotten older. Is that possible?

How old are you?
Women's bodies continue to change as they get older.1 -

18 according to profile.
So you are correct in thinking that you may not be capable of getting back to the size you were when you were 14 years old. Your body has almost definitely changed since then.

Yes. I'm 24 and a size 0 (getting close to a 00). Am 5'6 and around 125. You don't have to lose weight to lose size. In fact, I've slightly gained some weight as I've lost inches. Weight training is key.10

And no, I don't think everyone can be a size 0/1. Even at my leanest - right before I competed in a figure competition, I wasn't smaller than a size 8 pant. Even though I was pretty lean (not pro bodybuilder lean though) I could probably have lost a bit more fat and maybe gone down a size but I still could never be a size 0/1 without losing muscle mass.0

I wouldn't even be aiming to lose the 12 lbs. You are still trying to weigh what you did when you were 15. Again, your body has gone through changes in the time frame.
Is there a reason you want to lose 12 lbs other than that's what you used to weigh?3 -

The only clothes that come in a size 0 here in Aus are babies clothes.
How anyone can be a size nothing totally confounds me! I would love to know why and who came up with ridiculous concept..39 -
There are absolutely women who can maintain at a US size 0, I know quite a few. They are generally super narrowly built or have Asian ancestry, but they're gorgeous 0's. Personally I don't think my body would ever go that low but that doesn't mean that other women can't possibly do it.2

My mom had a thyroid condition as a teen and was 115 pounds at 5'10" So - model height and weight (at the time).
She was still a size 13. A lot of it is down to bone structure. You can't be smaller than your bones.8 -

I agree with you but don't think she meant it that no one can do it. I think it was more can "everyone" do it. The title is a little confusing.4 -
Your body changes based on age, weight gain/loss, pregnancy, hormones, ect. I was down to a size 1 at one point in my life but based on how my bones have shifted during pregnancy there is a chance they will never go back. I have gained some fat during my pregnancy but my small sizes go up to my hips and stop. I was wearing size 3-5 all the way up to 7 months and then my hips just lost it. Lol. I 100% believe there are just some people who will never be able to fit in those small sizes, but not for any bad reasons.3

This is a genuine question, is size 0 even healthy?1

That makes more sense, I was sat here thinking, "Well the fact that the size exists should answer this question." lol.3 -

@Christine_72 - I might be mistaken, but I think our size 0 is the equivalent of Aus size 4. Measurement wise I think it's like a 24" waist. Our sizes are pretty messed up here, but they added it because of vanity sizing. We even have a 00.1 -
robs_ready wrote: »This is a genuine question, is size 0 even healthy?
I'm 5' tall and ~113 pounds and a size 0 is just about right for me - I've got pretty narrow hips.
Also, a size 0 now isn't the same as a size 0 from a while back. I have a pair of shorts my aunt gave me (these shorts are probably 20+ years old now) and they're labeled as a size 8, but are about as snug as the 0's I've picked up at Target recently.
A size 0 isn't possible for everyone, but there's plenty of folks that can fit into that size and be a healthy weight also.

Exactly. I'm 5'3" and 109 pounds. I'm not a size 0 at Target anymore, I'm a 00. The vanity sizing in the US, especially at Target, is out of control. In equivalent sizing I'd be between a UK 4 and 6.3 -

Agreed! If I slim down anymore, I'm not sure what I'm gonna do for clothes...I stopped by a Chico's, I think, and they have a 00 that fell right off me! 000 shouldn't exist as a size.
I need to learn to sew, I guess.

Our sizes here don't go below a size 6, not that I've seen in any stores anyway. So i "think" an American size 0 would maybe be an Aus size 6. My 5'2 skinny as a rail daughter never fit into a size 6, she was a size 8 as a teenager. So yeah, i think the measurements are different, it's most confusing!!0 -

Vanity sizing is INSANE! I'm a size 0 in some brands but others are way to big for me in general. I'm 5'4.5 and 130. I do have very narrow hips and broad shoulders but still!
If it gets worse, they'll have to make 000 and 0000. I wouldn't be surprised if a 000 existed!

See, now that kind of shows the fact that for some women they just can't fit into a US size 0. I'm 5ft 4.5in and even at a weight of 125 couldn't fit into a size 0....or a size 1 for that matter! I was pretty skinny but my bone structure just wouldnt allow it.1 -
Given that I was a size 6 when I was 3 lbs from the bottom of my healthy BMI range (5'9" 128lb), I think I can confidently say that even centuries after I'm dead, when there is nothing left but a pile of old dry bones, said bones will still not fit into a size 0.
On the other hand, by then with vanity sizing, a 0 may well fit a family of 4 and their cat, so I guess I should never say never.33 -
I was a size 10-12 at 16 and a 00 at 33 years old with a 3 year old. And I'm 5'6". I was lean but never sickly in any way at a 00.
I can only speak for myself, but people always said I was big boned and would always be a big girl. Wrong. Once I lost the weight I realized I'm not big boned at all! It was just the weight that made it look so. People also said getting older makes ones body naturally weigh more. Wrong. I weighed less the older I got. Perception really is everything. And if we want to be honest the bmi guidelines, I think, are more than fair and forgiving. We may not want to believe it because of our egos, but the healthier we get over time and the more we understand the process, allowing ourselves a chance to get used to changes in perception, the more we begin to see those guidelines make perfect sense.8 -
