NON WW & WW NEWBIES, OUR NEW LIFE, THE START OF SOMETHING WONDERFUL

@fabgeekmom I've had Mexican hot chocolate before. I like it. Never tried the cookies. I'll have to look it up. You had said...The difference between now and WW is I am measuring the amounts....and I had to stop and think about that for a moment. I guess you were referring to zero point foods? I think tracking/measuring is so ingrained in me that I still measure things I don't know. Cups not grams. Although I read the other day that if I measure in grams I could knock off a point here and there. I think cups is just easier. Probably cause I've been doing that forever. That is not my problem.
@gemwolf110 Time seems to go by fast these days I think. Up and down. I hear you. My goal is just to go up and down in a lower range then eventually in my goal range. Could you send the recipe for the french toast casserole? I'm a part of a breakfast club and I'll be hosting the next time around.
@trooworld I hate driving in rain. I hate being a passenger in the rain cause then I'm not in control. A bus or train would be okay. lol You do not want to keep digging yourself a deeper hole to climb out of on Jan 1. Go back and look at your posts around this time last year. What was your thinking like at the time? How have you done in 2023?
I was at bookclub yesterday. Thus my absence. It had been postponed a couple of weeks. Now we only have two weeks to read the next book. We read Sold on a Monday. It was good. About back in the Depression years people were forced to sell their children because they couldn't provide for them. I ate half my pasta and brought the rest home for hubby.
I'm a big F1 fan and I was watching a documentary about the new F1 Las Vegas track. In it they were talking about how sometimes the difference between first and second places are a matter of seconds. So when they are tweaking the cars either between each race or each lap, the question is how can we make this car go one second faster? They don't try and overhaul the whole system. So it got me to thinking about my diet/exercise journey. What one small part can I tweak for today's race? Eventually I will get faster and cross the finish line.0 -
@trooworld Too bad about the weight gain. You know what you need to do. You did weigh so that is good. @theslightedgeforever Yes, I was talking about the 0 point foods. I think I was eating too many. I like MFP as it forces me to measure everything. Though I admit I do indulge in BLT’s( bites, licks and tastes). Maybe that will be my goal as something to work on. That was an interesting idea about small changes and tweaks. Hi, all. I didn’t feel like feel like going out so I did 2 Peloton workouts on my bike. Both were holiday ones so it was fun. My hairdresser is coming to the house.this afternoon. Tonight I am air frying some shrimp. I will also have rice and butternut squash which I will also air fry.0

Afternoon all, I am here. It's been a crazy week and still will be next week. The good part is I don't HAVE to get up early to get baby girl to school. LOL she is on vacation for 2 weeks. YEA!!! So I will take this time to get organized for the beginning of the year. Each day I try to make a tweak on something.
I don't want to ever go stagnant. We can always learn something.
@trooworld Sorry about the gain, but like I said up top...it's going to be a new year and we get a refresh.
@theslightedgeforever good for you for making movements!!
@fabgeekmom YOu are great at rolling with the punches. No thanks, I don't plan on me living in the cold areas of the states...I lived in IL for years..You just adapt, but I don't adapt so well now. LOL. I love that you almost always make some kind of bread for dinner. My family would have thought they died and ended up in Heaven.
Cbabie1 -
@cbabie I always liked school vacations! I was a teacher and appreciated being able to sleep late. Get lots of rest and do things for you. I have enjoyed the bread, too and am able to eat a moderate amount. I have to be able to roll with the punches. Now my son is making oatmeal raisin cookies, using an America Test Kitchen recipe. Yes, I’ll eat one cookie and track the calories. Your last comment made me smile.0

Here’s the recipe. I modified it slightly. Used full loaf of Italian Bread, 13 eggs and multiplied the sugars, vanilla and cinnamon by 1.5x kept the salt the same I added in some warming mulling spice that I got from Tastfulky Simple.

@theslightedgeforever I do, too. Especially around here, people go so fast, far too fast. And I agree about being a passenger. Actually, I do want to keep digging myself deeper. More on that below. Two weeks to read the book? Oh dear. That's tough. Wow, that sounds like a tough book to read.
@fabgeekmom It's all good. I'm not worried. I have a plan. Yay for your workouts! Enjoy your dinner and hair appt.
@cbabie Good idea to take advantage of this time.
Hi all. I am trying to qualify for weight loss surgery. Yes, I know it's drastic. Yes, I know it requires a permanent change. I've been thinking about it for several years. I've been trying to lose weight for 30 years now, I'm sick of this hamster wheel of weight loss. Yes, I am defending my choice...out of the few people I've told about this, half of them have tried to talk me out of it due to their own ignorance about the process/outcomes. I'm not asking for that, I am asking for support please. I have a friend that just had surgery in Mexico and she's doing great. I'm not having my surgery in Mexico, mine will be covered by my insurance IF I have a BMI of 40 or above or a comorbidity that I may or may not have. I'm very close or at 40 for a BMI. I have a consultation with a surgeon on Jan 2nd. I'm not going into this blindly, I have done a lot of research about it.
Water yesterday: 30 oz
My phrase for the year: "Every choice is another chance to change my health for the better."
Hope the consult goes well! I’ve know a few people that have had weight loss surgery and had great success with it. Please keep us posted. 🩷

@fabgeekmom squash and rice sounds good. Bravo on your Peleton sessions.
@cbabie We get a new refresh every day. Can't wait for the new year. Because we all know that excitement/motivation lasts for about 4-6 weeks and then it's back to old habits and routines. We just have to figure out how to do the habits we are trying to build TODAY. Mine today is stretching. I really haven't stretched since I got back home. So I'm trying habit stacking to deal with this. Plus using the Way of Life app to track my habits.
@gemwolf110 Thank you for the recipe.
@trooworld I'm glad you have done your research. At the end of the day you have to live with the outcome. My sister in law and two friends have done it. All three have had complications. We are here to support you along your journey. I usually read the books in one week. Because I'll forget the details because I'm also reading two other books at the same time. One for pleasure and then one for my bookclub I'm in with my son.
I did aerobics for 20 min today. Then started having sharp pains along the left side of my back. So I stopped. Off to do some stretching.

Hello everyone! Past WW member who did very well with becoming healthy and losing weight. But past 3 years can't seen to get back focused amd I've went back 100% to my old habits and extreme weight gain. Hoping with a support group can get back with it!1
-
@lindamartin27 Welcome to our group! I joined MFP last March after my doctor recommended it. I was a lifetime member and was following the plan but still gaining. I think it was all those 0 point foods! I have lost about 10 pounds and now am in a healthy BMI. @theslightestedgeforever Sorry about having pains while exercising. It was smart to stop. I love reading, too. @trooworld I was at TJ’s a week ago and it was crazy then! The lasagna sounds yummy. Hi, all. I had fun decorating cookies yesterday. My goulash was good. My husband and granddaughter had seconds and they don’t normally do that. The biscuits were good and I surprised myself by only eating half. I was full from the goulash. Tonight we go to my daughter’s house. Merry Christmas, everyone!0
-
@lindamartin27 I need to start asap too! I did well on WW years ago, but I am really struggling at the moment and am gaining quite a bit lately. I usually love walking but haven't been going out lately. Need to get motivated. I am hoping this group will give me the accountability I need! Good luck everyone. Have a lovely Christmas1

@Neds1980 Welcome! You can do this! I find tracking calories and macros is easier than doing points!0

@trooworld The charcuterie board looks really nice. I’m glad you enjoyed the lasagna. Hi, all. The meal at my daughter’s house was nice and I ate a moderate amount. This afternoon we are having my cousin, her husband, my daughter, her husband and my granddaughter over for dinner. My son is cooking a big meal. A lot of food! I will try to be moderate but enjoy everything.1

@trooworld I’m glad you had good day yesterday. Enjoy your day off. Hi, all. Yesterday was nice. Good food and family time. I have a doctor’s appointment this morning. I dread getting on the scale. I hadn’t anticipated weighing the day after Christmas. The appointment is routine so I am not feeling bad. Just something I have to keep check on. After the appointment I’m going to the recreation center to do the elliptical. Dinner tonight is leftovers.0
-
Well I got on the scale today. Same thing it has registered since at least the 18th. I've looked here and there and it doesn't budge an oz. I guess silver lining is that it didn't go up. But since I'm not at goal, I can't sit here for ever. So I'm going to go back to my F1 analogy and think of my points as lap times. I will start with my snacks and reduce my weekly average. That way I will be apt to grab more f&v, reduce my iced coffees from a large to medium, trying to think of other ways to shave off a point here and there. Reduce portion sizes
I hope everyone had good holidays. Don't wait until the first of the year to eat healthier.
@trooworld I love days with nothing planned. I haven't had the sharp pains again but I'm hoping the stretching will help my plantar fasciitis. It's flared up again. I hate the first thing in the morning when I get out of bed. Hobbling across the room to turn off my alarm. I love the charcuterie board. That's the thing I miss about counting carbs. I could just go to parties and eat all the meats and cheese I wanted.
@fabgeekmom I always have a routine eye appointment around this time every year. I had shingles close to my eye so we just keep a watch on it.
@lindamartin27 Welcome to the group! I've switched back to using points (bites) but I'm using Healthi app. I'm doing Carb Conscious there because I'm prediabetic. But I'm basically following the WWBlue plan. Just trying to fit more f&v into my plan.
@Neds1980 Welcome to the group! Read my post to linda ABOVE. Can you do an indoor walking program like Leslie Sansone from YouTube? I don't know how the weather is where you live. I can't seem to get both food and exercise going at the same time. It's been either one or the other. Frustrating!
@gemwolf110 Waving at you. Enjoy the school break. Do something fun for yourself.
I made an apple cauliflower salad. Dh really liked it. He thinks I just make these things up in my head.

@trooworld I’m glad you had a good day. I agree, no gain after a holiday is good. Hi, all. My doctor’s appointment went well. I actually weighed the same as I did 3 months ago and am in a healthy BMI. I got carried away with leftovers last night. Tonight is our last night of eating them and tomorrow I get back to healthy meals. I’m going to freeze the ham and microwave it for New Year’s Day.1
-
@trooworld My salads have been from pinterest this week. My latest one was a Greek chickpea salad. I loved the apple cauliflower salad. It was like a Waldorf salad. It had some raisins and some shelled pistachios in it along with some feta and a really nice dressing I made for it. It was supposed to have some broccoli but I was out. Oh I added red onion slices.
@fabgeekmom Yaaay on not gaining from 3 months ago. Now that you are in a healthy BMI range, do you feel like your body is in maintenance mode? Plus how do you feel about that. I've always read the ones that keep it off are the ones that slide into goal. Their lifestyle will sustain them.
I decided to jump on the scale and yep, same number exactly. lol I was thinking maybe even a .2 gain or something. Nope. Same number. Now I'm wondering if it's broken. lol I need to have dh step on and off just to get a different number and then I'll try on Monday.
@cbabie Where are you? Are you in a bday cake coma?1 -
@theslightedgeforever I feel pretty good but can’t shake the feeling that I should drop a few pounds. My clothes fit. Nothing is tight. I really don’t like feeling out of control and holidays with all the foods available makes it hard. I’ll feel better after the holidays even though there always are challenges.1

Morning all, Sorry I have been MIA. It's been a tiring last week. I have had two very sick kids...my 5 year old ran a fever from Friday until yesterday. Yesterday was her first full day with no fever. The 15 month old got sick Christmas day, took him to the Dr and he has an ear infection, plus trying to get tooth in. Then my grandson and his wife got here from Alaska on the 18th and they have been sick, plus my adult child and my DH were also sick. It's been so much fun. I think my family got my message that I want to eat healthy. LOL I got 2 Ninjia cookers. One has a grill and one does not...
I have tried to read all the comments, but not a lot of time to respond. I just wanted to check in and welcome our newbies..
Welcome to the group @lindamartin27 and @Neds1980.
I will try to get back to posting every day, but still trying to dig out from my wonderful Christmas. LOL
@trooworld , @fabgeekmom , @theslightedgeforever , @gemwolf110 . I hope you all had a good Christmas and yes it's time to get back in the saddle and get our health back this year. I got on the scale yesterday and because I have not really had a "resting" Christmas, I lost another lb..LOL. Maybe i can keep it off. But it's more important that I start moving my body.
Cbabie1 -
@fabgeekmom Maybe you are at the stage where you gain a couple of lbs because your routine was a bit different during the holidays and then you lose those 2 lbs over the next month or so. All the while eating healthily and exercising. If your body wants you to lose more weight, it will naturally on its own.
@trooworld When I read buckwheat I think of the character on Little Rascals.
That's how old I am. I've never tried it either. I'll look it up. I'm assuming a grain? OK, so not a grain I just read. Does it have any flavor? The book I'm reading for bookclub next is West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. It's about moving giraffes from NJ to San Diego Zoo(I think, I just started it) in 1938.
I walked 49 minutes today. Food was good. I said no to a donut and Bugles.1 -
@trooworld I understand that feeling of FOMO. It’s good you got a lot of work done. Your meals sound good. @theslightedgeforever Yes, I think my weight is set. I might be able to lose a few my pounds but it seems like I have to be too strict. I read the book about the giraffes and enjoyed it. &cbabie Sorry about all that sickness. I am glad your family got the idea that you want to eat healthy. Enjoy the cooking appliances. Hi, all. DH and I went to the recreation center and then to Sam’s Club. We bought salmon for tonight, steak and asparagus for tomorrow night, low cal bread, high fiber wraps and other stuff. Tonight we are having mushroom soup from a recipe book my daughter gave my son, teriyaki salmon and rice. All the leftovers are gone except the ham which is in the freezer and the gingerbread cookies my daughter made. Tomorrow night she will take home most of them. She has been eating with us all week as her husband and daughter are in NY visiting family.1
-
@trooworld You really had a productive day at work yesterday. It feels good to get things neat. My husband is the one who gets rid of clutter. I think my son and I drive him crazy as we like things to be on the kitchen counter where we can find them. Hi, all. I ate some cookies last night after dinner and told my daughter to take the rest home with her. The salmon, rice and soup were good. It was great not to have heartburn before bedtime! I have leftovers for lunch. We are getting back to our steak meal tonight.1
-
@fabgeekmom Teriyaki salmon sounds so good. I am like your hubby. Nothing on the counters. My hubby on the other hand loves flat surfaces.
@trooworld Have you been using your walking pad?
@cbabie Yaaay for losing a lb.
Here's something to think about as we near the end of 2023.
What is the story I'm telling myself about 2023?
How is this story serving me—or holding me back?
Consider your most exciting desires for 2024. How could the hard experiences of 2023 be preparing me for, even accelerating me towards, those desires?0 -
@theslightedgeforever Good things to think about!0
-
Afternoon all. Just stopped by to introduce myself and say "hi!". Steadily gained A LOT of weight since working at home for the last 3 years and of course the low back and knee pain that comes with it. Last visit to the doctors was that I have prediabetes and was put on metformin. Will try to post frequently to keep me accountable for a healthy 2024.0
-
Morning all, yesterday was hard, don't like whiny babies. I think I am like my mother. I know it's not their fault, just tired of taking care of sick folks. LOL. I am trying to get at least one project done I started at the beginning of the year. I can't believe that I am in the same spot. What happened to 2023?
The positive, I haven't given up, I still have my house, my family, my mind and I am working on my health, still have a few other areas I really need to put my nose to the ground and work on.
@trooworld I love to declutter..I am so ready for a clutter free home. Good for you for ending the year on a decluttering exercise. I was the first to get sick..LOL. I am sure you and DH will enjoy that grill.
@fabgeekmom that's nice you get to have your daughter with you this week. I think your foods always sound good and healthy. That's one of my goals this year...eat better.
@theslightedgeforever Are we of the same blood? I know you got moms genes and I got dads.. LOL I like clean counters, but I also like easy access. So I gave up on the clean counter until sometime in the future when it's just me and DH here. LOL. Good for you for moving your body.

Happy Friday all!

@cbabie I can’t believe this year is almost over either! Was a good crazy year but ready for 2024 to see what it brings!
What’s everyone’s plans and aspirations for the new year? I’m planning on staying in or dinner with the family. I’m making goals/aspirations to make small baby steps to get my diet back on track to be healthier and home cook more and reduce processed foods. I want to be under 200 lbs by June 2024. I also want to paint the upstairs walls this year, declutter room by room and to live more simply and in the moment. Want to work out 2 x a week minimum of 30 minutes. I also want to get my financial health in better shape.
Have a wonderful day everyone!
~ Missy0 -
@saybyebob Welcome and good luck on achieving your goals. @cbabie I like your attitude in appreciating what you have. It’s always good to have a project, a goal to achieve. @trooworld Too bad about the electricity but you made the best of it. @gemwolf110 Good idea to make small steps. Good luck on those goals. Hi, all. Yesterday was a swim day. I enjoyed my salmon for lunch I have another piece for lunch today. Last night we got back to our steak and potato routine. I roasted asparagus and have some left for lunch today. I ate a few pieces of candy I bought from my granddaughter’s PTA. And tracked them. As for goals, I plan to keep on eating healthy, work on portion control, exercise, eat treats in moderation and still enjoy family celebrations.2
