NON WW & WW NEWBIES, OUR NEW LIFE, THE START OF SOMETHING WONDERFUL

For people who have done WW and have switched to MFP, have any of you tried setting your daily deficit goal to around 1200 calories then let yourself eat as many zero point foods as you need to be satisfied? I’m thinking of doing this so I don’t have to track as much and so I eat healthier.0
-
@trooworld My falls were not related to weight and even when I thought I was overweight I really wasn’t. The first time I fell my left (bad) leg gave out and I fell getting in the bathtub. The second time I was rushing to get on the tram at the Denver airport and the door shut on my leg. The first time I broke my right femur, the second time wad the left femur. It’s good that you are learning what to eat and getting satisfaction from it. @cbabie Sorry the kids are still sick. @its_cleo It’s good that you are learning habits. Hopefully you’ll find a way to overcome stress and what throws you off. @theslightedgeforever I think you’re right as I am not too far from a healthy BMI. And I’ve read that BMI is not really a good predictor of health. It’s good that you are learning awareness. @anxietyfairy I don’t think that is a good idea. You are either on WW or MFP. I stopped WW because I was eating too many 0 point foods. Hi, all. Today was a swim day. Yesterday it was warm; today it’s cold and dreary. In the South warm weather in winter is called false spring as the warm weather does not last. Tonight we are having pork stew with kimchi, another milk street recipe.0

Morning all, baby girl stayed home again today..24 hrs with no fever, but her cough is enough to feel bad for her. LOL. I have to finish tracking from yesterday. It was not a good day, but not a bad day. Just was too tired to log it last night. I did do some of my PT exercises yesterday...it's a start.
@fabgeekmom Ouch, I think my stomach curdled at the thought of the door closing on your leg. broken bones are the worst..I agree with slightedge, you probably are healthy and at your good weight!
@anxietyfairy I think you might be way over in calories, I used to do WW and I think the zero points hurt me more than helped me. I felt like I could eat and eat...and that really isn't true. It's really about balance.
@trooworld love those prints. you are doing a lot of changes right now...LOL we may not even know you when this year is over.
. A whole new you...but please keep your personality...I like it..:)
@theslightedgeforever I would think February is because of all the celebrating you do that month. LOL. It's kind of like my December....I don't think I can chew my food 20 times...I would rather eat creamy foods..LOL

@anxietyfairy Welcome to the group. I haven't tried tracking calories and eating zero point foods at the time but I'm sure it could be done. Depending on your current weight 1200 may be too low. If it were me, I would experiment. What and how many zero point foods can you eat and still lose weight at the rate that is good for you? That's the question to answer. Try it for a month and see what happens. The push for healthier foods is a good one.
@fabgeekmom Yikes on your falls. Yes on the BMI. How is your energy? How are your blood tests? etc. Those are a more accurate picture I think. How was the kimchi? My Korean friend made it for me one time. Not my thing. lol She said but it's so good for you.
@trooworld The only times I have fallen is when my feet got caught in my wide pant leg going up stairs. I think 2-3 times I did that. I no longer wear those pants. lol I would think it would be a balance or like you said not picking your feet up. Or dragging your feet. I love the tiger prints. They just pop.
@cbabie Hopefully your little one will get back to school soon. Good on you for going back and tracking. Plus doing some of your PT. I never had the problem with eating too many zero foods because they filled me up. I think the fiber helped. Eating fruit and vegetables was not what made me fat. lol February is my special month. I changed my phone wallpaper to reflect that. Queen for a day is coming up soon.
I made some really good tomato soup today. I saw this reel on Instagram about putting tomatoes in the air fryer. I added 20 cloves of garlic along with some red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning and salt. Oh and an onion. Drizzled generously with olive oil. then after it was done just blended it up. Very nice comfort food. A grilled cheese would have went nicely with it but I abstained. Plus I did 30 min on the treadmill.

@trooworld I love the prints! The Skinnytaste recipe sounds good. @cbabie Good job on tracking from yesterday and doing PT exercises. @theslightedgeforever Blood work and energy levels are good. I could have more energy but I do want I need to do. The tomato soup sounds good. Good job on the treadmill. Hi, all. It was raining this morning so I worked out on the bike. DS made soup for lunch. I went grocery shopping and wanted some salmon but the store didn’t have any. So since Sam’s Club was nearly I went there. I got the salmon plus steaks, ground chicken and ground turkey. I’m going to air fry the salmon, roast some cauliflower and make polenta in the instant pot.0
-
@theslightedgeforever queen for a day sounds good. Is that Valentine's? Soup sounds good. I would throw some chickpeas in.
@cbabie hope the little one recovers!
@trooworld love the prints. Sage is the one spice I find drier is better bur yeah definitely have to add more than I think.
@fabgeekmom man those sound like bad falls.
I'm on track calorie wise, no more take out left. I tried to do 10 mins on the elliptical with no resistance and was struggling most of the night bc of it. When I aggravate my hip I feel it mostly at night. Sooooo kind of discouraged.
Just needs more time I guess.0 -
@fabgeekmom You sound in a really good place health wise. Yesterday I was looking at a recipe that I used to make. Cauliflower tater tots.
@trooworld I'm extremely careful going down our steps. I'm real slow and look down and watch every step. Yaay on your weight loss.
@its_cleo You're doing good calorie wise. I think that's most of the battle to lose weight. I used to think exercise was more important but have changed my mind. Not Valentine's day but my birthday. I don't cook, clean, or anything else. I like chickpeas I just don't know if like them in tomato soup. lol I agree. Pain at night is the worst. I'm struggling with my left hip/leg.
I went to the gym and did treadmill and some weights. Total 45 min. I am becoming a gym rat.0 -
@trooworld 2 pounds is great! I hope you get relief for your knee. @its_cleo Good job on calorie counting. I’m sorry about your hip pain. I guess the elliptical aggravated your pain. Night pain is the worst. I can understand that you are frustrated. @theslightedgeforever Sorry about your pain! Yes, I’m in pretty good health despite a few irritations. I keep on keeping on! Hi, all. Today was a swim day. It’s warmer and sunnier. Tonight is steak night.0
-
@theslightedgeforever well happy birthday, I hope you enjoy it. I'm turning 49 this year. I've started to think about what to do when I turn 50 besides cry lol. Maybe a trip. If only everything wasnt so expensive.
@trooworld I was reading about voltaren bc I have arthritis too. Mine is still at a mild stage, though, so I got something less strong for now. I hope it helps.
I'm ok- cals on track the last few days, and I'm pleased with my weight. Tonight is a challenge bc normally I would have chips and dip or something. So I will see how I can portion it moderately.0 -
These are the pictures of the swans near me. As I said we have both mute and trumpeter- these are trumpeter (black beaks). They make sounds but very quiet honks. They are tagged from a conservation program to support the species bc it is depleted. They track them and do a bunch of stuff. The tags don't hurt them.
This guy N37 I see him quite a bit off and on.

0 -
@fabgeekmom I think there will always be irritations in life. Sunnier and warmer sounds good.
@trooworld Yes I'm tracking. This week was 6/7 days. I hope you get relief for your knee. My friend got some gel shots that last about 6 months.
@its_cleo I love the pics of the swans. Especially those black beaks. I had you much younger. In your 30s. Hope you find relief too. I did some nice stretches this morning laying in bed for my hips and then some more later on a bench.
I did some mall walking today while I waited for my son. Today is my active recovery day. Tomorrow I think I'll finish off that tomato soup I made.0 -
@trooworld I use Voltaren all the time and it helps. It mostly takes the edge off the pain. I but the generic product at Sam’s Club. I hope you get an appointment soon to get the shots. @its_cleo The pictures were really cool. 50 is young but I guess everything is relative. Good job on tracking. @theslightedgeforever Good idea to walk while you waited for your son. Enjoy that soup. Hi, all. It’s cold and dreary again. I think I hurt more when that happens. This morning DH and I went shopping. I don’t really enjoy shopping for clothes but I needed a pair of dressy pants and some shoes that were not sneakers to wear to a Bar Mitzvah in March. I found a pair of black pants and some black shoes. Everything was picked over as after Christmas everything goes on sale. DS is roasting 2 chickens and making couscous with red peppers. I’m preparing beet greens and beets. I love fresh beets.0
-
@fabgeekmom I did not eat the soup as planned. A chicken shawarma instead. I went over by 45 calories. The good thing is that I only ordered one and normally I can eat two. Hubby even said we'll share an extra one. I said no I'm just going to eat one and I did. So that is progress.
@trooworld I think my friend has to wait the 6 months but she says it's fine. It gives her pain relief. I want to go to a roller skate party. I bet the music was really good. I probably would have been dancing as they skated. Look at my invisible roller skates. I'm glad you are eating food you enjoy now.
Today I feel tired so I don't think I'm going to be doing much of anything but read. I did do my stretches so I can get rid of this hip/leg pain. Did I tell you as I was walking last week something went BOINK in my leg. Felt like a guitar string broke. lol But I'm still walking so maybe something was out of joint and it popped back in place. I don't know. The hip/leg pain was before so may or may not be related. It's just my hips are so tight. Especially on the left side. Plus I think @fabgeekmom is correct, the cold makes the pain worse.
0 -
@trooworld I’m glad you enjoyed the park, the festival and your food. @theslightedgeforever That’s annoying when something goes BOINK. I’m glad you recovered. That happens to me occasionally. Good for you for only ordering one entree. Yeah, the weather plays a big part in our aches and pains. Hi, all. It was in the 50’s and sunny ( a heat wave!) so I went for a walk. It was a bit windy and brisk but doable. Tonight we are going to our daughter’s house for dinner. She is serving appetizers since we’ll be watching the Super Bowl. I’m not into football so I’ll scroll on my phone. I’m making hot pimento dip from America’s Test Kitchen.0
-
@trooworld sorry to hear you've been sick. Sounds awful. I did get into the chips and dip, but I portioned them out before, so it was a little better.
@fabgeekmom hope your SuperBowl night went ok. I'm not into football either. I used to like baseball, but not really into that either much. I need to change my avatar.
@theslightedgeforever I hope your hip improves. I feel like that's a success with teh shawarma. That's what I'm doing too- if I go over at least it's just a little bit.
My weekend was ok, nothing exciting. I have Thursday and Friday off, and then next Mon is a holiday here, so I'm looking forward to the break. But feels like a long time til then lol.
I was looking at possible trips- hiking in Ireland, or Chile and Argentina. Of course I cant walk much right now, so maybe in a couple years? Fun to day dream I guess.0 -
@trooworld I’m sorry you were sick. The puppy bowl sounds interesting. I think I watched it several years ago when we didn’t watch the Super Bowl. @its_cleo Good job on portioning out snacks. Perhaps go on trips nearby or abroad that wouldn’t require a lot of walking? I can understand your frustration. Hi, all. Today was another cold damp day. DH noticed that I am hopping. I think it’s the cold, damp weather that is causing my stiffness. We went swimming and that always feels good. Dinner was pork stew with kimchi that I froze last week. DS made rice and fried onions to go with it.0
-
@trooworld The recipes you mentioned sound good. I’m glad you were able to eat them. That’s really fast to get an appointment with the orthopedic doctor. I hope all goes well. Hi, all. It’s cold and damp again. We got some snow flurries this morning but it didn’t last. I went grocery shopping for a few things for tonight. I made some roasted red pepper/ tomato soup for lunch. I worked out on the bike. We are having crab legs, coleslaw and potatoes for dinner. I got a good deal on the crab legs.0
-
@trooworld That sounds like a nice office setup. A view of the ocean is so peaceful. Too bad about the weather and traffic. I got the crab legs from a local grocery store that had a Super Bowl sale. The crab legs were good and everyone enjoyed them, although I thought they were too much work to get a little bit of crab. Hi, all. It’s still cold and damp. Today was a swim day. I’m making bone broth with the 2 chicken carcasses in the Instant Pot. I’ll save it for soup. Dinner is the mushroom ragu I froze last week.0
-
We had a big storm here too last night. 15 or 20 cm of snow. I have today and tomorrow off, but I had an appointment downtown today which was cancelled. I'm kind of annoyed about it. They rescheduled for tomorrow, but I wanted to just have it today and then have the rest of the weekend for myself. So I have to replan.
Glad things are going well at work @trooworld.
I've been doing really well with calories and my weight went down to 159, which I havent seen in a long time. Not sure it will stay there- it fluctuates, of course. But I was averaging around 162+ in Jan so that is an improvement.
Not sure what to do today, I have to replan my weekend. One thing I will do is go for a short walk by the lake, it always looks pretty in the snow.0 -
@trooworld I’m glad the commute home wasn’t as long as you thought it would be. It’ll be good to have a 4 day weekend. Hi, all. The rain finally stopped and the temperatures are a bit milder. I worked out on the bike today. Our hairdresser came to our house and we got haircuts. DS was home today and went grocery shopping with me. Dinner is pork chops, polenta and broccoli.0
-
Hey all I had to have unexpected surgery on Monday. All is well but extremely fatigued. My mil got put in the hospital same day. So my poor hubby has been dealing with alot. She's still there. I'm on a strength training ban for 2 weeks but I can get back on the treadmill slowly after the 17th and my follow up. So I'm trying to move around the house slowly for 5 min at a time. 15 min total and call it exercise to keep the habit. lol I basically just sit or lie down most of the day right now. I'll be back to it soon.0
-
@fabgeekmom getting a new haircut is always nice.
@theslightedgeforever oh I'm sorry to hear about the surgery and your MIL. I hope you can take some time to rest and recover.
@trooworld congrats on the loss! I've been reading a lot, too.
I got that Scythe book. It's ok, fast read and keeps my attn well enough.
Had yesterday off and cleaned. Downtown today and will go to the grocery store dt while I'm there bc the stores here dont have all the ingredients I want.
Tomorrow there's a park I love that I haven't been to since my hip injury, but I will go tomorrow and then pick up some nice bread at a bakery. I used to do this every couple weeks, but since my hip injury I haven't bc it was too far for me. But I will take transit there and walk the park a bit.0 -
@theslightedgeforever I’m sorry about the surgery and hope you recover well and the same for your MIL. @trooworld That weight loss is awesome! I hope you enjoyed your day and the appointment went well. @its_cleo Going to the grocery store and getting what you need is satisfying. The park sounds nice. I always enjoy walking in nature. Hi, all. Today was a swim day. While I was at the recreation center, I had 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot simmering with 2 cups of chicken broth, some bay leaves and dried parsley. When I got home I had shredded chicken for a wrap. Tonight was steak night. DS made a chocolate cake for tomorrow night and of course, we had to have a slice after dinner. This was a new recipe he tried which was very good. Next week he’s making the same recipe for our granddaughter’s birthday.0
-
@trooworld I remember cortisone shots being really painful. I’m glad your knee doesn’t hurt anymore. Sorry about the cold. Hi, all. It’s cold and dreary again. DH and I went to Sam’s Club today. We got mostly paper products. I had leftover steak for lunch. Tonight we are having tacos. I am eating mine on shredded lettuce so I can have tortilla chips and cake for dessert. I rode the bike after lunch.0
-
I didn't make it to the park...it just seemed like too much walking for my hip, with the other errands I had to do yesterday. I have to plan everything so I dont walk too much, it's really irritating.
I would go today but there is a big snowstorm.
@trooworld I wasn't making anything fancy, just some pork meatballs with apple, and mashed potatoes, some veggies. I dont eat pork very much, maybe once every 2 or 3 months. It was ok, turned out kind of a plain meal.....sounds like an interesting museum!
I also made a chickpea soup for lunch.
Fri I had pizza and was way over calories. Fridays are usually hard for me so if I dont plan ahead I end up just getting takeout.0 -
@trooworld I know you enjoyed eating at a restaurant. Good job on limiting the amount you ate. I think I went to that museum when I was in San Diego. I remember it was fascinating. @its_cleo That was good judgment in not walking at the park. If you overdo things, it just puts you behind when you want to do something. I have learned that! Pork meatballs sound good. I’m able to buy lower fat ground pork. Hi, all. It’s windy and rainy here. I went to the grocery store for a few things I need for tomorrow. One particular store sells ground Italian turkey sausage in a tube. I use it in place of pork sausage. Tonight we are eating at our daughter’s house. She always fixes something healthy.0
-
@trooworld It’s obvious that your DH doesn’t understand your depression. My DH also doesn’t get some of my anxieties. Unfortunately some men are not in tune with things that bother us. I’m sorry you felt so bad. Hi, all. The weather forecasters are saying that we are supposed to get a lot of snow Wednesday and Thursday, I think 8-10 inches. I hope they are wrong. If so, we’ll be in the house for a few days. Today we went swimming and then went to the grocery store. I got a few things to last us for a few days. I got a nice piece of salmon for dinner tonight. I’m going to freeze about half of it for next week.0
-
@trooworld that is super cute! I love both of them. I think it's great if people can make things. I used to crochet blankets but I don't much anymore.
@fabgeekmom good luck with the snow! We got a lot here over the weekend, and it's pretty cold today. The sun is out though, so that's nice. I don't mind the cold if it means we get some sun.
I didn't do great with calories on the weekend, but it's ok. Back on track today.0 -
Hi all, I haven't been able to get on my computer much. I have had 2 sick kids but they are on the other side of this stuff now I think. I just have to watch the little one when he gets a cough as he usually ends up with croup and breathing issues. This time just a horrible cough that makes him throw up...oh how fun.
I just keep gaining weight. I have not been this heavy in about 12 years. So I am fighting depression a bit and then the emotional eating comes into play...working on breaking the cycle.
@trooworld So sorry your DH made his comments. Your covers are absolutely adorable. Of course you would pick an animal pattern LOL. They are really cute. I am sure it will make reading your kindle more fun and you will look fabulous in your coffee shop while reading.
.
@fabgeekmom I am so glad you have a daughter who cooks healthy, it sounds to me like you taught your family good health is important! It's been cold here but then hot, which is why the kids get sick.. LOL
@its_cleo Sorry about your hip, but you are continuing to try and that will keep you reaching your goals.
Cbabie0 -
@trooworld The book sleeve looks really good. You are talented. Don’t consider what your DH said to you. @its_cleo Good job on being back on track. I agree that the sun being out makes the cold more tolerable. @cbabie I’m sorry you are having a hard time. I hope the kids are on the mend. Hi, all. I worked out on the bike today. The recreation center is closed tomorrow in preparation for the bad weather. DS is making Milkstreet recipe for chicken legs and boiling some red potatoes. I’m making instant pot kale. DS went grocery shopping and bought junk food for the bad weather duration. I can’t be trusted in that department because my main concern is having healthy meals for the next few days.0
