Yeah it was colder here today, although it still doesnt seem to bother me much. I'm not getting hot flashes yet, but I do kinda wonder, bc I feel hot most of the time. I will say the cold hurts the arthritis much as the rain does, so I do enjoy my electric blanket!

Not sure I would have the coordination to do weights on a bike, but that's great!

Ack I counted wrong yesterday and I was 150 over. Oh well.

@its_cleo That's good you have an MRI coming up. Have you had one before? I've had a couple, they aren't too bad. I'm sorry about your mood. Is there anything that helps you when you feel like that? I still have Christmas decorations up, too. I want to take them down but no time this weekend. :(

@cbabie You must be feeling better lol. Mobility is a good goal. As you know, before my surgery, I was quickly losing my mobility. It was one of the reasons I had surgery. I haven't needed my cane since surgery! What small step can you take this next week towards better mobility? That's great you quit smoking, that's very difficult. My Mom only stopped smoking when she had a stroke from it (and from other things...basically, medical reasons made her quit cold turkey). Yes, less stress is good lol. You are right about only eating that much, I would have said no way! Thank you.

@fabgeekmom Thank you! I am enjoying my food. I don't blame you for not leaving the house, I hate when it's cold. That is very interesting, what the instructor said. Good job with the exercise!

Hi all. We did a lot of running around yesterday. My SIL invited us out to lunch so I went and had water. BUT...I didn't even realize I was drinking from a straw until my husband said, "Are you allowed to use straws?" and I said, "NOOOO!". I drank about 25% of the glass of water before realizing I was doing it. Ugh. It was freezing at the restaurant. It was outdoor seating and, although they sat us near a heater, the heater wasn't working. So I was pretty miserable but it was nice to spend time with my SIL. Today, I'm getting ready to go back to work tomorrow.

    Water yesterday: 81 oz

Ah I'm in a better mood today. Maybe it was just post-holiday blues.

    @cbabie I'm glad you're feeling better.

@trooworld I've had an MRI on my wrist a few years ago. I'm nervous about this one bc it's an arthrogram MRI. So they are going to inject contrast dye straight into the hip joint. It's the 'straight into the hip joint' that gets me lol. It sounds painful.

Actually I need to stop being a baby. Apparently they will use anasthetic. What I heard was it's more uncomfortable than painful bc you can feel the fluid in your hip- it's like pressure? Or so I've been told. And then it can take a few days for the feeling to go away as the fluid gets absorbed.

Anyway the squash recipe I make - I have to type it out bc it's in a book:

    squash/pear/red lentil soup

2 tsp olive oil or butter
    1 cup chopped onions
    1 tsp minced garlic
    1 tbsp grated gingerroot
    1 tsp curry powder
    1/2 tsp cumin
4 cups chicken or veggie broth
    3 cups peeled, cubed squash
2 peeled and chopped pears- I dice it.
    1/2 cup red lentils

Basically fry the onion/garlic/spices. Then add everything else, bring to a boil. Simmer 10 to 15 mins or until squash and pears are soft. Puree until smooth.

My take- I actually usually buy the squash already peeled and diced and throw it in the microwave to soften it up. I also usually let it simmer for a bit longer to make sure the lentils are done.

I like thicker soups, so I've been thinking about adding more red lentils.

@its_cleo The cold does bother me. It’s good that it doesn’t bother you. I’m glad you’re in a better mood today. It is a let down after the holidays. I hope you do okay with the MRI. You’ll probably be okay but I understand your trepidation. @trooworld That’s great that your mobility is improving. Losing weight is so good for your joints. Hopefully you didn’t feel any ill effects from drinking from a straw. Hi, all. It’s cold here again and will be this way for a while. I rode the bike today. DS made soup for lunch which was good. He got a dessert cookbook for Christmas from my daughter ( I think the gift was self serving) and is making lemon shortbread cookies. We’re eating dinner at her house tonight and I know it’ll be healthy. So I’ll have calories for cookies.

Cookies sound good! I wanted to get some shortbread cookies for the holidays but somehow never did.

Anyway I was over calories yesterday- not totally my fault, bc I did Hello Fresh and some of their meal counts are insanely high. It was a quiche recipe and bw the flour and bacon it was like 700 cals per serving.

I dont do Hello Fresh anymore- it has gotten more expensive, for less quality meals, but once in a blue moon. That was the first time I've done it in about 2 months. So next time, I'll have to be careful about checking calorie count.

@its_cleo I'm glad your mood improved. Oh, I see. I hope it isn't painful and you get the information you need out of it. OH gosh, I'm sorry you had to type up the recipe! Thank you, it sounds really helpful and delicious. I'll let you know when I make it. It would be perfect for this stage of my diet! I've always been curious about the meal services but have never done any. I've heard Skinnytaste is involved in one of the meal services, but I forget which one.

@its_cleo Yes, I'm very happy. Good job with the bike. The cookies sound really yummy, shortbread are some of my favorites. That's good you had balance in your meals.

Hi all. Yesterday, I was mostly getting ready for going back to work today. We did go for coffee and run a couple of errands as well. I am going to try to walk on my work breaks today. I hope my knee doesn't start hurting. It would be a shame to have to start using my cane again. I tried to eat scrambled eggs for breakfast yesterday and that didn't work out: it felt like a rock going down. Some foods will work for me and some won't. Coincidentally, I made avocado egg salad for lunch, and that went down fine.

    Water yesterday: 56 oz

@its_cleo I have tried food deliveries in the past and I found they were very high calorie and expensive. I believe I have seen Home Chef advertised with Skinnytaste recipes but I don’t know if they deliver to Canada. Personally I would prefer to plan my own meals. @trooworld Too bad about the scrambled eggs. The egg salad sounds like it is a smoother consistency. Hi, all. It’s cold and rainy here but we have no snow or ice. DH and I went swimming today and the water felt warm. For lunch I made roasted pepper and tomato soup in the slow cooker so the soup was ready when we got home. I like this recipe because it uses canned tomatoes and red peppers. This was easy: sauté some onions and garlic. Add to slow cooker or pot if you want to simmer on the stove. Then add 2 jars of roasted peppers, 2 28 ounce cans of tomatoes ( I used 28 ounces of crushed tomatoes and 28 ounces of fire roasted tomatoes), and about 1 cup of chicken broth. Simmer on stove or slow cook on high for 3 hours. Use stick blender to purée.
