Major I don't care day

I really over ate today. Already close to 3,000 calories. When I do it, I worry that it will catch up with me. How often do others have I don't care days and over eat?

Less often enough that it evens out.3

While I'm not tracking atm, I know I've had an overly indulgent week.. I call it my "surplus week".. next week I will even it out hopefully!1

I can eat 3000 calories in one sitting easy peasy! Since I joined MFP, I have never done this. I have had some weekends where the eating was not of my normal weekday eating, but it has never not been tracked.
I do not have to worry about it, the scale weight the next few days (the scale will laugh at me) will show a lot of weight gain from eating more sodium, salt, carbs, not hydrating etc.. trust me it will remind me what I did until it evens back out after a few days!3 -

But have had 3,000 calorie days since you joined? I haven't eating that much in one sitting before.1 -

Calorie dense foods will rack up calories very quickly! All I have to do is add a diary queen blizzard to my day and I am done! LOL7 -
I had a 3000 calorie day this week. Still probably got a 2500 calorie deficit for the week. That's just what I do... I eat less on easier days so I don't have to sweat it when I eat too much (obviously though... I'm not maintaining at the bottom of the healthy BMI either so I don't mind dropping more weight, it just hasn't happened yet).
For me it's just life. Eating my 2200 calories every day would make it impossible to enjoy special days or a special treat. But eating 1800 most days and 2600-3000 occasionally is much more enjoyable.4 -
I've been maintaining since April. This summer I have had probably 4-5 weekends (not just days but entire weekends) where I didn't care and just ate whatever. These were camping trips or wedding trips or things like that. I didn't track calories but I'm sure I ate a lot. I tried to maintain my active life style. I usually gained some weight, maybe a pound or two after that initial huge gain you see from water weight. Monday morning I jumped back into logging and ate at a very slight deficit. Usually after 5-7 days of the deficit I was back to my regular weight. Only once did I ever even get out of my maintenance range but I still ate at a deficit just to get my mind back on track.
So I don't know. I know not everybody does this. But for me I just need to have times when I get to enjoy food without tracking, knowing I'm overeating but not caring. I never feel guilty or bad afterwards. In the past a weekend like that may have upset me and caused me to just revert back to old habits but not anymore. It's been working for me.11 -
I have 4 IDGAF days a year. Hubby is trying to talk me into having 6. They're decently spread out and it's a nice break for me mentally to just not GAF about food a handful of days a year.6

i have i dont care days at least once a month (lets be honest though some months its way more than just once)
i need those days where i dont worry about food or logging . I just eat what i feel like and have fun. I have started eating at a slight deficit the rest of the time to help with the i dont give a sht days and that does seem to work4 -
My don't give a *kitten* days always start out giving a *kitten* but by the late afternoon I can see that I am not giving a *kitten* so I just enjoy that day. Next day I go back to eating normal. Seems like every 5 to 7 days I need a fix on my bad foods. Now that I have told myself if I need that fix to take it I am finding I don't take it as much5

Oh crap. Spell check changed my *kitten* to kitten. Lol lol3

Nope, it's the MFP filth filter.4 -
i've lost 8lbs so far, in 2 more weeks i'm planning to eat what i want 1 day/wk. I used to do this years ago when i was 25lbs lighter & didn't gain because of that, i gained cause every day was like that1

Thanks for the responses. I had a major I don't care day yesterday but I still logged. I weighed this morning even with the sodium carbs and stomach content. Was up 2.6 pounds. I ate at a slight deficit today and will try to do so the rest of the week. Hope to level off in the next 7 days.1

Its one day, just get back on the horse today and you'll find all will be OK.0

I have a majorly over day on average 4 times per year. Two fo them are christmas. Additionally I have peak days (just over) scheduled in between lowish days about once a month. I track on a weekly basis and the peakdays always even out to my target that way. The huge days cause a bump just under maintenace for the average that week.0
-
I have I don't care days on a semi-regular basis (probably once a week). If I find that I'm bumping the top of my maintenance range, I go back into a deficit until I'm mid-range again. Oddly, I find the 'don't care' days don't really affect me too much. I've been maintaining for 2 years, and have only once gained enough that it worried me. Most of the time I hover right around the middle of maintenance I think you'll be fine as long as you pay attention to the way you are feeling and your clothes are fitting. ONE day once in a while isn't going to affect you much as long as you're being mindful most of the time.4

Thanks again for the encouragement. I try to look at where I am over a 30 day period calorie wise. It seems to even it that way. But I still worry sometimes that I will gain the weight back.1

I meant it seems to even out that way.0

I call them my binge days. I've ate up to 5,000+ calories in a day! It doesn't happen often, though, so after a week or so it balances out again. But I do have those days where my mind is just 'idgaf I'm eating everything.' I've stopped keeping so many easy to grab snacks in the house because of it. I'd rather not ruin my good progress... so if I do have those days again, I try not to go over 3,000 calories...0

Once in a while I have a day where I'm a couple hundrd over maintenance, but not too often. I'm new at this part, so it scares the hell out of me. I like total control over what I put in my mouth.1

One I don't give an f day isn't going to hurt your overall performance. The main thing is not to put together a whole bunch of days.
What you have to remember is this is a long-term journey and you're going to have your ups and downs and as long as you stay consistent everything will work out. To put things in perspective the end of March my weight was approximately 250 pounds. I went on vacation for 4 days ate too much drink too much had a damn good time wouldn't trade it for anything. Two of those days I probably drank my calorie limit alone. Had some great deep fried barbecued spare ribs some unbelievable greasy food and I had a ball. My current weight is 214 pounds.
For this lifestyle change to work you can't be miserable all the time and look at this as a diet. Diets suck you're miserable you're hungry you're giving up stuff that you enjoy and it's not going to work long-term. All I can tell you is enjoy the journey9 -
I had 4 donuts yesterday, 300 cal each , yep around 3,000. One day is ok if I mess up just don't keep doing it0

Today was Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. I didn't even know that when I ate that cookie today at Panera. But now I feel a little bit like a patriot or something.4

4 donuts at 300 calories each is 1200 cals. Do you mean you had 3000 calories all up yesterday?

Yeah, I call it an I don't care day because I don't use the "f" word, but let me just say that I have read lots of posts about this and most people say you are back to normal in a couple of days. I was up 2.6 pounds Monday, and I am still holding on to 1.2 of those pounds. I have been eating at a slight deficit this week. I'm not doing a big deficit because I think that does create the overeating and restricting cycle. So, I'm just eating a little below maintenance.
Instead of a couple of days, I think it will take me more like 10 days or so to get back to normal. It's weird, even my thighs look really bloated. Not cute.0 -

Plug for Panera.... I love that place. I haven't eaten there in over a year though. They have the best tuna sandwiches. Their chips are delicious.0 -
I meant their chocolate chip cookies are delicious. Their chips are okay. LOL0

A week later I'm finally back down to my previous weight before last Sunday's I don't care day. Whew, that was a long 7 days.6

I've been over 3000 calories 3 times in the past 90 days, most recently on my wedding anniversary when I full well intended to do so. I've lost 23.2 lb in the past 90 days.3
