Looking at arts & entertainment around the turn of the twentieth century, everything seems like it was much more open-minded and free than it was by WWII. What happened? Is this another thing we can blame on Hitler?2

what things are u comparing? i think in general fine art opened up conceptually pretty continuously thru the 20th century, and some people believe fine art was pushed forward by an anti-nazi government funded backing in high end galleries

that's literally how Pollock became a thing.
only it was an anti-communist scheme the CIA developed, not so much about the nazis2 -
