Phentermine?

Friend me. I'd like that . I started taking Phentermine in 2014. I lost forty pounds in one year. That was with logging my food and exercise carefully on here. It was a big motivator for me. I lost a lot of weight the first month. It really motivated me to get healthy and drop the pounds and work out.
It was a tool for me. But logging my food and exercise here was just as important. Phentermine curbs my appetite, but not that much. Enough that I stay motivated and on track.
It's the same as any diet though. For me, I stopped logging my food and stopped exercising. I gained it all back.
I am back on Phentermine now. Logging my food here is the most important part for me.1 -
Jlatr. Don't worry about not eating enough calories. That only lasts for a little while. You will start eating more.
Tips:
Don't buy it online. Sometimes you will get the real thing, but maybe not. Get a doctor.
Log your food and exercise. Keep track of what you eat.
Oops, I am out of time. More later.1 -
I know how to eat healthy, and I love to exercise, but at 90lbs overweight it was hard to have the energy I needed to get up and move. People on here will of course, tell you not to do it, it's a crutch, etc. But, if you're like me and have tried everything, and this was a last ditch effort before lap band surgery, then it was my ONLY choice. I've been on it almost 2 months - down just about 20 lbs. It is prescription speed. Make no mistakes about that. I see why people get addicted because for me, it's been amazing. I have energy, I am happy because the weight is coming off. No side effects other than a dry mouth, and we're supposed to drink water anyway.
I went to a doctor, got a prescription, and he said he would do a month at a time for 3 months. I had lab work and an EKG also. I have to come in and he checks my vitals, makes sure my blood pressure is okay, and I'm healthy. I also check my blood pressure at home. It's working for me. Really well. This WAS the kick start I needed. I'm down 2 sizes, and about 4 inches around my waist alone. I got a fitbit, and a gym membership, along with a treadmill I setup in the garage. When I started, I did 2 miles walking EVERY day, after 7 weeks I'm running 3 miles because I'm not so heavy and it's not as hard. I have the time to make good food choices because I'm not hungry.
I bought cute new clothes, I have an amazing date to my Christmas party, and for the first time in year, I feel hope. That I'm not destined to be fat forever. I feel wonderful, like I'm in charge of my life finally.8 -

It was just a waste of money. And when I came off it, I had gallbladder problems. It may have been a coincidence, but I doubt it.
Stick to the caffeine, exercise, portion control, maybe some vitamin B12.
Good luck.
Anytime we go off a "diet" we tend to gain the weight back. Just saying. It's not just Phentermine that causes it. Look at Oprah.
That's why "dieting" isn't recommended. Lifestyle changes are. Phentermine or not, if you resume your poor eating habits after you lose weight, you're going to gain it back.2 -
I'm super jealous that it worked for some people, my doctor was so confused why it had no effect on me, not even dry mouth, nothing happened at all; and I was prescribed the big one for people who are like 400lbs overweight0

I think everyone gets the same dose, no matter what you weigh. Which doesn't really make sense to me. I talked to my Pharmacist. He said it was bad to ever take more than one a day. I have a friend who it didn't work for too. The 37.5 supposedly have the same 30 mg. of Phentermine, just more filler. I personally like the 30 mg. capsules better than the 37.5 mg. tablets.0 -
People aren't judgemental on a lot of other forums. I've seen people here completely cut down people, not just us. I have used this forum http://www.phentermine.com/forum/. People are supportive

So.........you're just going to take this stimulant for the rest of your life (and suffer the consequences of being on it long term) because you can't get to grips with how to finding strategies to lose and maintain weight without it? Is that not terrifying to you? Does it not scare you that 1. you didn't last a blink of an eye off it and 2. your doctor has willingly prescribed it for over a year when everyone elses doctors will only do it for 3 months?
I pretty much have to take medication for medical conditions and the long term side effects are my main concern, I hate that I have to take anything, especially meds so rife with side effects. Phentermine, whilst not in the same ball aprk, still comes with its own issues, not least addiction, having weaned myself off powerful sleeping tablets (prescribed, I do have insomnia) I wouldn't take something not medically required. It's kind of terrifying.5 -
You might be on to something. After a bad weekend I decided to stay away from treats for a week. Its been 5 days and overall I am doing good.1

That's great! It feels so good to be back to eating healthy. Unprocessed food as much as possible, lots of vegetables, fruits, eggs, and nuts. It was the wine that did me in. When I drank, I got hungry. I stopped cooking. I filled my freezer full of pizza and frozen meals I didn't have to prepare.
I think just logging my food is helping me avoid junk food. Phentermine gives me that little kick to keep going. It's certainly not a miracle drug, but it helps me not feel hungry all the time.
I lost a few pounds this first week back on it, but I am sure it is mostly water weight. I am eating less, that's for sure, but I still have to be very careful of what I eat. I hope I can continue eating less meat.0 -
There are a bunch of people here that say unproductive, mean, and unnecessary comments on these threads. Just don't pay attention to them.
We all know to "Eat less and work out more." We've heard it a million times. If a tool helps you on the path to healthy habits, is there something wrong with it?5 -
You might also think about making your food diary public so that if there are any obvious things in there, people can help you out. (incorrect items from the database, etc)
I agree! My food diary is public to my friends; we do look at each other's. The best thing about my food diary is it keeps me from eating stuff I shouldn't. I don't want to see it in writing that I ate a whole pizza, or a bunch of candy. So I don't eat it!

Diarrhea and vomiting are pretty common and there are some very serious heart problems that occur. People's bodies become use to the drug (resistant) very quickly so it no longer affects your weight loss after a few months. I would say this drug is dangerous and would say don't take it. There are other routes for weight loss that are much more effective.
sorry, yes, they do give it out, I am currently on it, and have dropped 10 lbs in the last month. It has curbed my appetite, and in fact this week, with a lot of stress going on, I am not stuffing my face out of depression.
My doctor did say that the effectiveness usually ends after 3 months. I am only taking it during the work week as that's where my munching is the worse and my weekends are a lot busier than the weekdays. It wouldn't do for me to have no appetite at all when I have walked 26 miles in two days.

Uh, no! Phentermine is unnecessary and can be dangerous to your health. If you need a little bump in energy, coffee has lots of benefits
Any drug can be dangerous to your health, if you are working with a Doctor who knows your health background, why should someone not be on it? And sorry, coffee=barf.

I am taking half of a 37.5 pill a day, and only during the work week (weekends right now are so busy, I need to have an appetite as I stated before). I am down 10+ lbs in the last month, and 5 lbs in the last week. Was in the Dr's yesterday, BP is up a little, but still in normal range.
I have no appetite. I have to force myself to eat or to remember to eat. With bone spur, bad knees, possibly plantar fasciatis and asthma, I need to lose weight, and exercising and cutting my calories down was not helping, I hit a plateau and stuck there for 6 months. Now the weight is coming off.
The first week I had insomnia that I wasn't sure if it was my normal insomnia or Phentermine induced, but otherwise, I have had no side effects.
Just my two cents

As is anything in life. I'm under Doctor supervision, and for that I feel ok with it.

I have been attending a medical weight loss clinic. Part of my program includes Phentermine (half dose), but it is only a part. I am on a reduced calorie diet, I work out, have increased my protein intake, water and sleep. The Phentermine is there to help with metabolism and appetite. Its working great and I don't have any side effects (but I did when I tried the full dose the first week, so it was cut down). I see the doctor each week, and progress is monitored, which I think is the smart thing to do with any of those types of medications. I have lost 20lbs in about 9 weeks.
As for coffee, I am a caffeine addict, and I can tell you that coffee does not work the same way this does. (I have had to reduce/eliminate much of my coffee intake while on this medication.)
I agree with everyone that says you need to make a lifestyle change. You can't be on this forever and be healthy. But its a short term tool to help get started.2 -
Just be prepared for when the phentermine quits working or you stop taking it. Your appetite will return in full force.

I'd be interested in reading stories from people who have lost using these meds and have maintained the weight loss. Most of the stories shared here involve partial, if not total and then some, regain. Having an exit plan seems to be important. I would suspect addressing underlying issues would also be valuable.2 -
I started taking Phentermine in June and have lost 51 lbs so far. Seems to work for me.2

I did a doc supervised crash diet a few years ago and was prescribed that drug. My understanding was it was purely for appetite control, it doesn't actually facilitate weight loss, only suppresses cravings. The doc was pretty upfront that he did not want me to be on it long because of long term effects. I ended up taking it for one week and between the doc's warnings and it making me feel a bit off I decided to ditch it and just mentally deal with cravings. My opinion is that if you need it to get through your diet then that diet is not sustainable. Yeah you'll lose weight if you don't feel hungry and therefore don't eat but it's not as efficient as logging calories accurately against a tailored deficit. And there are real concerns about long term effects.3

No one is saying it doesn't work, it surpress appetite as mentioned short term (6 months ish I believe) BUT when you come off your appetite will return full force. Hopefully you will be able to handle it and keep your weight off.

I have tried phentermine in the past and I would not recommend to anyone. It's just another quick fix that doesn't fix anything. Yeah I lost 20lbs in a month but I literally ate nothing and never slept. It's like prescription speed. I'd sleep maybe 3 hours a night and could go all day. Sounds great but your body eventually can't handle it. I did it for 2months under supervision of my doctor and had to go in for blood pressure checks every week as it can cause increase in blood pressure. I didn't fix why I ate, my emotional attachment to food or the fact that I wasn't exercising. So here we are a few years later and I'm doing it the right way, working out with a trainer and on my own and eating the right foods. I also started seeing a therapist to work on the emotional eating and it's been an amazing journey so far.3 -
I wouldn't. Have you done any research on the stuff? It doesn't sound like it's a good idea to take it. https://consumeraffairs.com/nutrition/phentermine.html0

I've used it off and on, best when cycled because you build a tolerance and also ot is habit forming
It can work but isn't a miracle pill, i was taking 37.5 mg at first, appetite was nearly non existent for about 10 hours which kinda sucked cause i had to force myself to get all my cals, but it did put my cravings in check and that was my biggest issue
After the first 2 weeks though the affects kinda wore off, i started taking half in the am and another half at around noon... eh didn't really do much ... started taking a full pill on an empty stomach in the am again then a half in the afternoon (asked my doctor before, he said it was ok) this worked but was short lived..
As i said you build a tolerance so i learned cycling it every 2 weeks worked best for me 2 weeks on one week off, if you start getting food cravings after a few days off just start the pills again, make sure you eat though and that first day is gonna feel crazy... most important thing is if you decide to take them is DRINK WATER, lots and lots of water all day long
They will definitely help you get your eating habits in check, you burn more calories and will drop some weight... but it also can harm you and is a powerful drug0 -
I will admit I tried it for a month when I started at 340 pounds. It made me very anxious and did nothing for my appetite. I stopped and lost 160 pounds without it. If you don't eat at a deficit with it, it won't help you lose weight.1

kiaramonroe wrote:I have been trying to lose weight for like forever now and nothing seems to work. I heard about phentermine as a jump start and I was wondering what you guys thought or if any of you have tried it.
It's for short-term use (a few months) by very overweight people, or by somewhat overweight people with other health complications (so the benefits of the help in losing weight outweigh the risks from the potential side effects of the medicine).
.
If your major problem is that you're constantly, uncontrollably hungry, phentermine could help.
It helped me in that situation.
It immediately suppressed my hunger to what my doctor assured me was a normal level, so I only felt hungry if I hadn't eaten for 5 or 6 hours. Once I was not using phentermine, that "normalcy" persisted.
And it reset my hunger sensing mechanism, whatever you want to call it, let me learn to eat normal-sized portions & be satisfied with them.
.
Potential side effects include increased blood pressure, which is nothing to mess around with & can lead or contribute to other health problems. So that needs to be monitored.
Some people feel jittery. I didn't.

Alyssa_Is_LosingIt wrote:It is a stimulant that can raise your blood pressure and cause heart problems. Yes, it will suppress your appetite, but it is a drug meant to be used short-term. When your appetite comes back (which it will), you will have learned nothing about how to control it on your own with controlled portions and satiating foods, meaning you will more than likely put weight back on when you come off.
Best bet is to buy a food scale, track your calories as accurately as possible, eat a reasonable amount of a variety of foods each day, and find an activity that you enjoy doing to keep you active. The weight will come off and you will learn healthy ways to control your appetite, making it easier to maintain your weight loss in the future.
Do both - get the appetite under immediate control AND learn good long-term eating habits.
And no, my out-of-control appetite did not go back out of control as I stopped using phentermine.0
