Annoyances at the gym!

I dunno I don't care...I just work around stuff and have a go with the flow attitude. I'm there minus 4 kids and a husband.
However, one trainer used to warm clients down with spirit fingers (best description I can think of, fluttery perhaps) and I had to turn my back cos I couldn't stand watching it - it wasn't creepy, but I'd get distracted contemplating the reason for that. Then I'd get irritated I was irritated and then I'd ask myself "what's up sook, getting too hard you looking to blame someone? Mind your own."
ETA..Should have used past tense ..I don't go to gym anymore.7 -

What gets me is all the bros squatting in my curl rack.15

Bookmarking this for the next time someone says "no one is paying attention to you" to a newbie worried about being judged at the gym.
What bothers me are people. I workout at home and I still get bothered by people.40 -

My philosophy at the gym is I am there for me and my health so I can be around a long time for my family. I go there to work out, not make friends (with the exception of in my prenatal yoga class). If someone wants to waste their own time at the gym watching my fat pregnant behind working out, and judge me that's on them. They are wasting their own time.20 -

-people who wait ON the machines
-people who use weight machines like chairs and sit on them while texting, looking at Facebook, etc.
-people who move too slowly...get the heck out of the way!
-people who do not wipe off the weight machines, *especially* during cold/flu season
-people who work out while actively sick/contageous
-people who stand in the front in a dance fitness class when they can't keep up/have no idea what they are doing
-people with no musicality, timing or ability to count who try to take dance fitness classes
-people moving the wrong way in a group class...especially if they are doing this in my blind spot
-people who pretend to work out--move your kitten or go home
-pool staff who don't understand lap swimming
-people who PLAY in the lap lanes during lap swim time
-people who cut across lap lanes in the middle of the pool (so dangerous!)
-slow swimmers who think that they are fast
-people who play their music without headphones
-changing room slobs
Basically, people are the issue.
Wow are you judgemental on the people in group classes! And I say this as a former dancer. I'd rather have all of those unco-ordinated people in my class giving it a go. Key here is dance fitness, it's for all comers. It's hardly pro level ballet and a beginner rocks up (which by the way, the dancers would just work around in the class anyway).
I workout at home. So my lard *kitten* boy cat plonking himself in the middle of my space as I'm about to get going would be my annoyance!
LOL i can kinda understand where's she's coming from. I had the opposite problem, and this one woman still sticks in my mind years later. She used to stand up the very front of the class, her moves were like 10 times faster than the instructors, she didnt do any of them properly or even close, she reminded me of an orangutan flailing her arms and legs about. Why she came to a class with an instructor showing you moves confounded me, she just did her own thing to her own special beat of the music.
It was incredibly off putting standing behind her, and you could see the other people in the class behind and around her getting all uncoordinated, and god forbid if you stood too close as you would get a hit in your face or a kick in the shins. Everyone gave her a wide berth, she will always hold a special place in my heart, she really did give those classes her all.15 -
When they dont put "lock broken" on the bathroom door (single bathroom in middle of the weights) And some girl opens door and loudly says OH MY GOD SORRY... exposing me to all the hot weight lifting guys who look over at the sound...as I pee.
Swear i never wanted to die more knowing i had to leave that room XD

Thanks for asking, I didn't know either.
I also want to know if it's common for gyms to put a toilet in the middle of the weights room?? In every gym I've ever been in the toilets/change rooms have been on the opposite side of the workout rooms, usually right near the entrance.

Farting
More specifically, farting while walking through a populated area, spreading the noxious gas for maximum effect.20 -
People who wear lots of perfume/cologne in the gym -- especially nearby while I'm on the treadmill when I can't exactly escape the fumes.13

Oh my stars is that soooo annoying.. Hogging the machine while they are "resting" is such crap. I saw this guy literally sit for 30 minutes on his phone. Dry AF...no sweat. Like he machine baby sitting.3

Use a *kitten* deodorant2

I thankfully run trail in the on season and am blessed with a treadmill in my basement for marathon training in winter so I don't have to bother with gym culture. I've got to know though, posters who mentioned they are irked by people running hard or "loud", how the hell do you hit a significant incline or speed quietly? Have I been running wrong all this time? lol12

DO NOT get me started!
Just kidding, not much annoys me, except when I get on a treadmill that's covered with sweat. There are towels and spray bottles with disinfectants all around for a very good reason.
Other than that, peace man, carry on people.7 -

I've been subject to that a few times, and usually wrinkle my nose and fan my hand in front of me. Most times they get the drift (ha, ha, pun intended!).

Water fountain that doesn't fountain but dribbles
Water fountain that used to dribble for months suddenly dispensing water at force
Not taking a towel to the gym
12 -
Women's changing room door that doesn't close properly
Male janitors who walk into a women's changing room with no notice, then don't leave
Squat rack too close to a smith so that you can't comfortably change plates on rack without a conscious effort not to knock yourself out5 -

Gym managers who say "we will look into it" then "we are looking into it for months
Refurb of gym filling all available space with equipment so there's inadequate floor space for deadlifts
No quiet corner for barbell hip thrusts3 -
Finding out after 3 years that because I work in schools sector I get a significant discount on my monthly gym membership like 33% discount

I think that's it

Don't generally get annoyed by much at the gym, but had a good one today.
There I am, doing my thing on one of the cardio machines. It's the only one of its type but in the middle of a row of other stuff (bikes, ellipticals etc).
Two other ladies arrive, hop on machines either side of me and start the LOUDEST conversation right across me as though I wasn't there. I had no choice but to listen, and even with the volume turned right up the radio play on my iPod was totally un-followable. Very awkward!3 -
So glad I don't go to the same gym as you, you sound like the kind of person I was worried about when I started going to the gym.azulvioleta6 wrote: »It's a long freaking list.
-supersetters - Don't do this very often now, but did when recovering from surgery and stuck using light weights
-people who wait ON the machines - Where do you want them to wait? Seriously confused with this one, not that I use machines other than lat pull down and assisted pull up
-people who use weight machines like chairs and sit on them while texting, looking at Facebook, etc. - Maybe they're recovering between heavy sets
-people who move too slowly...get the heck out of the way! - At least they're moving, I could barely walk when I first started at the gym
-people who do not wipe off the weight machines, *especially* during cold/flu season - I don't get the obsession with wiping down machines, sure I'll wipe up my sweat puddle, but really the current trend for wiping out every known germ is actually causing more harm as children don't build up resistance. And you do know that the very worst place for germs is the door handle as you leave the public toilets
-people who work out while actively sick/contageous - With 99% of coughs, colds etc you're contagious before you're actively sick.
-people who stand in the front in a dance fitness class when they can't keep up/have no idea what they are doing - I wouldn't stand at the front anyway, but understand that some people need a clear view of the instructor to learn the moves
-people with no musicality, timing or ability to count who try to take dance fitness classes - You'd hate me then, I've got 2 left feet and absolutely no sense of rhythm, good job nobody cares about whether I'm in step, doing the right move or keeping up
-people moving the wrong way in a group class...especially if they are doing this in my blind spot - Maybe you should be more aware of your surroundings
-people who pretend to work out--move your kitten or go home - Why does this worry you, it's their own time and money they're wasting
-pool staff who don't understand lap swimming - I don't swim so don't understand lap swimming either
-people who PLAY in the lap lanes during lap swim time
-people who cut across lap lanes in the middle of the pool (so dangerous!)
-slow swimmers who think that they are fast
-people who play their music without headphones
-changing room slobs
Basically, people are the issue. - Maybe you should think of setting up a home gym, because going to a public gym can't be a very nice experience if you spend so much of the time annoyed

Not a lot annoys me, but there's one guy who comes in, does his squats and then leaves the 20kg plates on the bar. Now I can put them away if I can reach them, but I'm only 5'1" and he's a giant and leaves the bar on the very top pins of the rack, so I have to ask for help to get them down. Other than that I love my gym, it's a smallish family run affair and everyone is so helpful and supportative, loving the fact that I'm most likely to be found by the rack doing compound lifts.4

People who chat loudly on the treadmill or when the gym puts the music so loud that I can still hear it on top of my music.
And people who don't wipe the equipment or chat on the machines when you're waiting for them...2
