Accidental Calorie Bombs.

I was inspired in another thread, so let's have a little fun/bout of depression: What food did you not log/check info on a restaurant site, etc, ate it, then was like "Holy CRAP"??
For me, it was the Gravy and Biscuits meal at Steak and shake. Impromptu brunch with momma, and i figured, it can't be THAT bad, those biscuits are tiny! Yeahhhhhh, 1069 calories....oh, and 666 are calories from fat, proving this meal was the absolute devil.
What have you enjoyed, thinking it would be high in calories, but not THAT high, and had to just take a hit for the day and say eff it? Lol.

Teriyaki chicken with white rice at Cheesecake Factory. I mean, I know it was the Cheesecake Factory and that their calories are WAY up there, but I thought that I could get by with Teriyaki Chicken. It wasn't all that much food in comparison to what others had.
1400 calories.4 -

Thank God there's not one of those around me. I'd be done for.1 -
I had the splenda cheesecake, low carb fallacy. it was 690 cals! it wasn't worth it, go for the real thing if you are gonna do it, might as well, the fake cheesecake was almost 400 cals less than the regular versions but taste wise it was eh.3

I hate Splenda so that'd be a no go for me anyway! Lol0 -
Creme Brûlée martinis I knew they were bad, but even worse than the splurge dinner I had??2

Mini brownie concrete at Freddy's Steakburger - 840 calories. How do they even do that?!?1

I had a vegetable fajita plate at a Mexican place early in my calorie counting days. I was thinking, vegetables and beans, tiny tortillas . . . how bad could it be? The place didn't have a calorie count on their website, but my research after the meal led me to believe I had at least 1,100 calories . . . and I didn't even have the cheese or sour cream. That was an eye-opener, I took much less for granted after that.1

I've been wanting to try their frozen custard. That'll be a no-go, unless I totally kill it at the gym one day. LOL.1 -

It's totally worth it, if you have extra calories to use.2 -

Okay, note to self: Kick *kitten* at the gym one day, because there is a location perfectly seated to swoop into on the drive home.2 -
The blasphemous tourtiere on the cbc website....holy calories, batman. Over 600 cals for 1/8th of the pie.
But it was SO good. Best tourtiere I've ever had.4 -
My mother-in-law makes us some fantastic zucchini bread whenever she visits. I asked her for the recipe so I could cypher the calories and the portion I was regularly eating, not a big one by any means (I don't recall the grams) was about 875 calories. I was on a deficit then and I'm little so those couple days were blown to hell. Sooo good though.1

Wow, that's some bread!2 -

Yeah, it is. Very dense. There's some in my freezer at the moment from their visit in September for my daughter's 16th. They always bring several loaves at a time. I'll work it in some this winter while bulking.1 -
benihana dragon roll - nearly 600 calories per roll and close to 1600 sodium.

I got an appetizer for lunch at Pei Wei's. It was a small plate of Traditional Chicken Lettuce Wraps. 770 calories. Not much food there. Never again.1

Just met with friends at Panera Bread, which I don't usually go to. I checked their menu for an afternoon dessert type thing and was surprised at how calorie dense their stuff was! I ended up just getting a tea for 0 calories sigh....1

it's funny how subjective these things can be. i eat panera post workout a few times per month and i don't find it to be that bad considering the amount of food i get. i usually get a whole tuna sandwich, a cup of tomato soup and a bag of chips at 870. i've actually pre-logged it for today already.6 -
Arby's Roast Turkey Ranch & Bacon Sandwich.
I used to eat them all of the time and think of them as a lower-calorie meal choice. After I started tracking, I found out that one sandwich has 800 calories. Not only that, the sodium is 2420 mg and I need to watch my sodium.1 -
2,500 mg in the French Dip sub at Arby's. I don't watch my sodium, but that's CRAZY. Automatic water retention/bloat/extra two pounds on the scale for three days = not worth it.2

That's just cruel...it's got 'mini' in the name...hate to see what the "regular" one would have been if they offered it.
For me, it's Mexican food (restaurants)...even trying to eat good, I'm usually at my daily allowance for just about any meal out (1200-1300+), when I'm eating at a deficit. However, the last restaurant I went to, I had paddleboarded for a few hours beforehand, so I had a HUGE burn deficit (700-900), so I think I broke even for the day.
Pretty much eating just about anything out is a calorie bomb for me, but I try to plan accordingly. I love when I can make something similar at home for about 1/2 the calories.
Oh, one of the big surprises when I started counting calories was Ginger Ale...190 calories and 51 carbs for a 16+ oz bottle. You mean I switched from light beer at 95 calories a bottle to Ginger Ale to be healthier?! WTH?! No wonder I was gaining weight!2 -
I don't often go to restaurants that have nutritional information available...I just work under the assumption that everything is somewhere between 800 - 1200 calories.4
-
Another vote for Cheesecake Factory... I used to get just the lettuce wrap appetizer for my meal, thinking it was a healthy option. This was before I counted calories. I was so irritated when I found out it was 1030 calories! For lettuce, cucumber, carrots, grilled chicken, and dipping sauces. I should have just gotten a slice of cheesecake.2

Oh, and I'm sure we all remember the tear that rolled down our cheeks the first time we weighed peanut butter.20

She was looking at the desserts, which are eeeeevil. I can testify, having just eaten the debbil itself, a cinnamon crunch bagel with honey-walnut cream cheese (a modest 570 calories). It made me very happy.
Their meals are definitely much more reasonable: Last night I had the pick two with tomato soup and the Green Goddess salad with chicken, for 470 calories (baguette ruins that but I just can't say no to a baguette). I get the bagel with the 99-cent bakery item add-on and just discipline myself to save it for the next day.
Nowhere near as bad as one of my all-time favorite bombs, the bacon-guac burger at Red Robin, for 1000-ish calories of pure deliciousness.3 -
Almost any salad dressing at a restaurant. At the Wood Ranch BBQ their caesar salad is about 300 calories and then with dressing it's almost 1000. Crazy. I ate shrimp and rice instead.2

Panera desserts were definitely created by the devil! The last time I was there I did the pick two for lunch: tomato soup and half a steak-and-white-cheddar panini, plus an irresistable baguette, was 980 calories. I bought two pastries to take home for later, figuring it would be bad but it couldn't possibly be equal to another lunch or anything, right? WRONG! One cheese danish + one chocolate chip cookie + 840 calories.
(Definitely the devil.)hollyrayburn wrote: »Oh, and I'm sure we all remember the tear that rolled down our cheeks the first time we weighed peanut butter.4 -

ohhh, i see now. yeah, i'm lucky not to have too bad of a sweet tooth.hollyrayburn wrote: »Oh, and I'm sure we all remember the tear that rolled down our cheeks the first time we weighed peanut butter.
pb2 kind of fixed that for me, but nothing (NOTHING) can console me when i weigh pasta.5 -

Good point! Salads are horrible at most restaurants. I went with a friend to Applebees. We split an appetizer, which I knew would be bad, so I got the Southwest Salad with Beef for my meal. Glad I only ate 1/2 of it and brought the rest home...it was over 1500 calories! I probably would have done better just getting a burger!0 -
Homemade chocolate chip cookies, regular teaspoon drop size. I had 9 the night of baking and logged over 700 calories from it.2
