Women who drink

I drink a couple glasses of wine several nights a week. I don't go out partying anymore, though! If I did, I'd save it for the weekends. Log it all. And I always see these posts where everyone recommends hard liquor, but I find wine works better for me. I can drink it without mixing it with anything and it's fairly low in calories compared to a lot of other choices.0

See my profile pic. I make it fit!0

Wine, or gin with water and a twist of lime!0
-
My usual is vodka and diet cherry 7up. I do still drink beer just not as much of it. Just make sure you log it. :drinker:
OMG, vodka diet cherry 7up. . .YUMMMO
Although I am still swearing by Walmart brand sparkling Strawberry Lemonade soda - zero cal, zero sugar!
25 more minutes of work, So ready for a drink right now!!!0 -
Yep! I drink and definitely more than once a week. I log it and try to make it fit. It requires burning extra cals to really get crazy, but I find it to be worth not giving up my social life, as I won't stick with it if I did. I do vodka/soda usually. :drinker:0

I use it as my great day, bc I'm not really a ohh I want to eat chocolate girl. Those night are my don't remember getting home. I never ever drink beer that's bloats me far to much.
I'm a shot person thou - agwa, soju, whatever else is going around.
I usually buy a bag drink which is as much as whatever drink and limit the sugar mix.
If I could I would do wine, but it's not sold over here .0 -
Vodka, Soda and a muddled lime... It's the lowest calorie drink for nights when I want to overindulge. Red wine for dinners out. If I know I'm going to really go out hard, I schedule my hard workout the day of and take a day off the next day. Lots of water! Sometimes, I actually weigh less the next day. Probably because of dehydration...lol
Beer is a losing battle for me. I absolutely love it and I have trouble just having one or two of them. Making it a goal to reduce beer to a once every couple of months thing. I believe beer and Taco Bell is the reason I'm in this boat. : ( It may just be a trigger food/drink for me that I have to stay away from....0 -

For the record, I was the "after" body in many fitness commercials about 10 years ago....and DRANK! I did cut out weekday (well, Sun-Thur) drinking but tended to party pretty hard on the weekends. And was 10% bodyfat, ripped, and in great health. It can be done. And I'd gotten lean doing the same thing, so it wasn't like I'd always been in that shape.
Cheers!0 -
You can still drink and enjoy yourself if that's what you want to do. Opt for spirits and a diet mixer. That's low cal hun x0
-
I drink...a lot
I may love you...:drinker:0 -
Russian Standard vodka. Keeps me sane.0
-
I understand! Young 20's and Im not giving up going out with my friends and my margaritas!!! i stick to straight shots though...no mixers... it cuts the cals0
-
i'm probably gonna get a lot of hate for this, but go on an empty stomach. 2-3 drinks will keep you happy all night.0
-
Just try to resist the urge to get a kebab drenched in garlic mayo on the way home! *drooool* I can't help myself when i'm drunk. It's not the drink that adds the calories it's all the food I eat when i'm leathered and the following hungover day. Vodka and diet anything tends to keep calories low. Absolute vodka and cranberry gives me less of a hangover (cheap nasty vodka isn't as kind), so I make better choices the next day. A salad just doesn't sort a hangover out the same way a fry up does...0

Here is what I know:
I drink Stoli or Tito's and soda with plenty of citrus. I drink lots of water as well while I'm drinking. I've read that DRY champagne and DRY red wine has the least calories next to vodka as well. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I used to be big into craft beer but I don't really like beer anymore. Needless to say the calories are big. I also drink white wine spritzers with a dry white, soda and lemon. Bartenders look at me like I'm some flashback 80's housewife (who is also a bartender) but I stretch my alcohol out so I have a drink in my hand but it's lower alcohol since it's in a tall glass and I get the benefit of citrus and water again.
The other problem is alcohol inhibits your self control. Next you're eating nachos or a late night burger or worse-- you're hungover the next day and you make even more poor food decisions. And science shows that greasy foods and caffeine make a hangover worse. The cycle continues... next you know you're off your meal plan and stopped exercising.
Take me for example, I was on a roll! Then, I went out with my buddy and a few days later I hadn't done P90x as I was never home, I'd been drinking like crazy and my meal plan wasn't what it could be.
It's a week later. Midterms are over and I am finally getting back on P90x.
I'm not saying that wild nights lead to two wild nights which leads to a week long bender. (Unless you're me.) I am saying that I've learned from experience that I have to be in control or else I get out of control and then I'm bummed that I let myself get outta control. etc. Vicious cycle!0 -
Drinking is actually what made my weight go up 13 lbs! so i completly stopped. and if i do go out I get one of those Skinny drinks but even then its still not the best thing. but at 21 just do it socially that shoudl be fine. :drinker:0
-
I drink occasionally--I stick to vodka with plain soda water and a slice of fresh lemon or lime. I also drink lots of water along with it. Sometimes I have champagne or a glass of red wine. I've never been a beer drinker, so I can't be of any help if that's your thing. :drinker:0

drinkers ADD ME!
LETS PARTY ON!0 -
I usually go for diet coke with rum or long island iced tea!0
-
I love my nightly glass of red wine and I fit it in my cals/macros.
I won't stop myself from a drink or two on weekends when I want to. I just make sure I don't over do it.
In fact, I have been drinking far less than I used to due to the fact that I have to be top shape the next morning to hit the gym =P0 -
Whatever you decide to drink, I would also have a glass of water w/ a lemon slice also. Drink your drink, drink some water and repeat. Not only does it help with the hangover the next day, but it keeps you from knocking back so much alcohol (calories).0
-
Workout the day of, drink a TON of water, stick to vodka & plain soda (NO BEER) and COUNT THEM.
Weightloss, not to over simplify is CALORIES IN VS CALORIES OUT- yes theres more to it, but basically, if you stay under calories even with the drinsk, you'll be fine.
I know I drink- A LOT, and have still lost0 -
I don't know if it's fair to say it really screws up fat loss, but I don't think it's a myth either. Here's my understanding of it though some of the science types might want to clean this up some: when you consume alchohol, your body immediately gets to work metabolizing it instead of whatever else like fat, for example. So for the time period you have alcohol in your system, you essentially can't lose fat (or very much of it) - regardless of whether you are in a caloric deficit or not. How much this can impact your goals would seem to be affected by a lot of variables like how big of a caloric deficit you are in, how much alcohol you consume and how often, and probably varies by individiual too.
Anecdotally, it is clear that some people have great success losing weight and body fat while drinking - sometimes heavily. Other people seem to have more trouble with it.
Personally, I enjoy beer, wine, and the occaisional glass of whiskey. Most of my weight loss was done when I cut back quite a bit but I've been successfully maintaining/losing slightly while indulging once or twice a weekalcohol really screws up your fat loss. I can't recite the technical reasons but it's the way your body uses acohol for fuel (or doesnt rather) that is a double-whammy to fat loss.
I'm sure there are some experts who can chime in.
Not really. It has very significant effects on the body, but it doesn't "screw up" anything as far as caloric balance. This myth owes a lot to the fact that people tend to lose willpower and diet adherence when they are intoxicated, as well as the fact that when hungover, most people will crave energy dense (especially fatty) foods.
I'm no self-proclaimed expert but I drink a lot, eat a lot, read a lot and exercise a lot0 -
If I'm worried about calories, I aim for mixed drinks with diet soda. The soda is zero calories so essentially I'm just get calories from the shot. Liquor seems to be anywhere from 60-100 calories (you can google specific ones).
I like:
- diet 7up + southern comfort
- diet coke + rum
- diet coke + jack
Or sometimes I go for simple drinks with juice & no complicated ingredients if I get bored of soda all night. I find they're around 230-250 calories.
- vodka cranberry
- screw driver0 -
The worst part about drinking is the bastardization of the bartending world. Sour mix? Garbage. It's all empty calories full of fake sugars and chemicals. Gross. I didn't even drink it when I wasn't bothering with calories or health. The juice mixers that you get at your run of the mill bar are crap. They're food coloring, HFCS, empty calories, etc. I'll put money on it that most of them are 10% or less. We should all know the dangers of soda drinks. Not to mention the articles coming out about how bad diet soda is for you. If you're going to do juice then grapefruit tends to be your best bet. I drink vodka, soda, grapefruit if I really need a flavor.
The darker the liquor the more calories it has is a decent rule of thumb that usually holds true.
The sugars in those fruit juices and mixers are also inducing those nasty hangovers. Same goes for drinking poor quality well liquor in quantities. If I'm watching the pennies and drinking well, I try not to have a lot. Those spirits are not pure, they're full of chemicals and sometimes they're not even what they claim to be. Some super cheap tequila brands aren't even made, at all, from agave. Nothin' wrong with well liquor, just in moderation.
The good thing about the craft cocktail part of the industry is by and large you know what you're getting if you're at a reputable bar. Quality ingredients, fresh squeezed, legitimate liquor brands.
Right, what am i going to drink tonight? I'm thinking wine.0 -
Not sure if any one has said this already, but vodka and club soda w/ lime ... I would drink this all the time and didn't even think about it being low cal or anything ... I just liked it becuse is kept me hydrated, which is key in preventing/minimizing hangovers (the club soda is basically carbonated water) and I'm not a fan of overly sweet mixed drinks ... then one day I was reading a SHAPE magazine (for sh*ts and giggles, because most of qhat they say is BS and hype) while I was getting a pedicure and saw a list of healthy, low cal drink options and vodka club was #1 with only 100 calories ... I also like red wine, it's about 120 calories per 6oz serving, but I drink it because I like the flavor ... It's useless to drink or eat something if you don't like it, I mean you should actually enjoy it ...0

I'm a lush. Drink low cal and responsibly. Dont get pregnant and enjoy life0
-
If I drink during the week I keep it within my cals. A couple times a month I take a night and go over, but am right back to it the next day. So far I'm still seeing losses. When I was in college I would binge drink 3 nights a week and eat like crap and still eventually lost 75 lbs. It can happen0

lol @ don't get pregnant0
