that when i got a side salad at wendys my aunt yelled at me (after losing 60 pounds by this point) That i NEED to eat meat and the fries because i need the fat and proteins ir my body would go into starvation mode and i wouldnt lose weight.
Basically she argued (angrily and totally legit) That shes going to lose weight off her full meal including buttered baked potatoes fries and a huge burger with extra mayo, And i wont off my side salad.
She has continued to gain and im down 80 pounds53 -

I did once get told that I wouldn't be able to lose weight until after I had babies (the woman in question was constantly at me for not wanting kids) because "your body wants to have babies, so it's hanging onto the stores to grow and feed them".44

Oh where do I begin? Cheese is the devil's food, dairy in general. Too much water will make you bloated. Say what!? Eat nothing but fruits and your face will clear up. Go on a carb-free diet...um? Okay...doesn't everything have a certain amount of carbs? Oops! Forgot my fav, don't lift weights it'll make you big. Huh?16

Someone once told me that if I wanted to lose weight, all I needed to do was go to bed hungry every night. Where I come from, that sounds like an eating disorder.25

To me that's the worst. Wanting to change, knowing how to change, but not even trying to change.17 -
A therapist told me I should diet for 5 days and then binge for two.
Another therapist told me to get those magazines like Shape and read the "before and after weight loss story" but that I should not look at the pretty slim curvy girl on the cover.7 -

That you shouldn't eat protein and starchy foods at the same time. Combine each one separately with vegetables. Oh, and fruit should always be eaten by itself, in the morning.16

I use a standing desk called a Varidesk Pro and I have a Focal Lotus seat for when I do need to have something for support. Both are GREAT and have helped my back and hip tremendously.1 -

Daft diet advice: If you eat meat you will never lose weight. Only vegetarians/vegans can be thin.

It's daft but the ones that also make me angry are the ACV suggestions. I can't even.10

Eat a whole grapefruit a day and you'll lose a lot of weight.
This actually has some truth to it, because the fiber will fill you up and if you eat grapefruit in lieu of something else for breakfast or lunch, you're probably eating fewer calories, but it definitely sounds daft.5 -
Coming at this from a LCHF point of view:
- Ketosis will kill you because ketoacidosis.
- Ketosis will destroy your muscles because your body will use all your muscles up (the protein) to make sugars.
- You need carbs to live / for energy / for mental function / for any happiness in life.
- Going low carb WILL lead to binge eating.
- As soon as you eat carbs (meaning more moderate carbs) you will gain all your weight back.
- Going LCHF leads to 5-10 lbs of water eight lost in the first month... Unlike moderate carb diets which do not have much water weight lost.
- LCHF leads to nutritional deficiencies.
- LCHF will clog your arteries and cause heart disease (this is true for those with familial hypercholesterolemia only).
- Eating fat leads to developing diabetes.
- LCHF causes inflammation and will make autoimmune issues worse.
- LCHF will hurt your kidneys.
- Eating fat will make you fat.
- Meat causes cancer.
- Fat free cheese is good..... NO! No it isn't!

I think I've posted this here before, but my mom honestly believes that chicken kiev (you know, a fried chicken breast with 3Tbsp of butter in the center) is low calorie "because it's chicken."
She also thinks that adding ACV and green tea are all the changes she needs to lose weight.18 -
A work colleague of mine just loudly proclaimed that another colleague should not eat a big dinner because then he would digest it as he slept and it would all turn straight to fat.17

one of my favourites are the people who go for short walks or climb a flight of stairs or something and gasp out, "Well, that must have burned at least 1000 calories!"
I'm never quite sure if they actually believe that or if they're employing hyperbole.22 -

Cutting out ALL sugar is the only real way to lose weight, no veges or fruit!
Sugar is why people are obese. We don't need any sugar to survive and fruit is basically poison.
Protein makes you fat.

On Keto i can eat 5lbs of bacon a day and and all the cheese i want and i'll lose weight fast.

Sugar free soda stops weight loss and causes brain tumors.
