"220lbs is just my natural weight."
I can't believe that being obese is seen as natural.11 -

My junior at work just yesterday said "drinking water helps flush the adipose liquid that is on our bellies"...I preferred to ask none about this obscure "adipose liquid".17

Cutting out sweets can be helpful in the beginning. I couldn't moderate them for the life of me when I first started out. Now, I regularly eat something sweet. I'm having 86 grams of pretzel M and Ms today.

You have clearly never been addicted to heroin or been close to anyone who was (the withdrawals from quitting cold turkey include vomiting, convulsions, hysteria and sometimes even death). Quitting sugar cold turkey just makes you feel deprived from yummy foods so you get a craving for something sweet. No different than feeling deprived and wanting more of your favorite show at the end of a season.
And sugar doesn't make you fat. Too much food in general makes you fat. Sweets are just easier to overeat than most other foods so they get a bad rap.47 -
that muscle definatley weighs more than fat - thats why youve gained this week, uuurrrggghhh9

I don't eat sweeteners (I know they're safe but I don't like the taste and some of them give me a headache)
I was told I could never lose weight if I didn't switch to diet coke and light yoghurts *sigh*

I knew a guy who decided he was going to lose weight by not eating after 8pm.
If that arbitrary rule wasn't silly enough (although it could work for someone who is only overweight due to overeating in the evenings), he had exceptions for it.
Popcorn and milk didn't count!! I guess he'd been told that they were healthy snacks so he was allowing them after his cut off (or maybe the milk didn't count because it was liquid and thus not food?).
Well one day we're out in a group and we stop at Mcdonalds but it's after 8 pm. We all order our food while he goes next door to the gas station and comes back with a half gallon of chocolate milk. He sits and drinks the entire thing while explaining to us that he only has milk and popcorn after 8 because he needs to lose weight.
For reference, my quarter pounder, fries and coke had a total of 1,330 calories (51g of fat, 38g of protein and 188g of carbs).
His half gallon of chocolate milk had 1,120 calories (16g of fat, 8 grams of protein and 232 grams of carbs).
But he wasn't eating after 8...40 -

Well he wasn't chewing after 8pm, (excluding popcorn)

I do believe this one - to a point.
My sister told me that tracking intake doesn't work at all. Apparently she missed the fact that I lost 75lbs by tracking what I ate.7 -

My friends who binge-drink alcohol multiple times a week but won't touch diet soda because it's "unhealthy" and makes you fat............... okay35

"Muscle weighs more than fat."
What?! Muscle is more dense, yes, but a pound is a pound...10 -
"Muscle weighs more than fat."

Except that when comparing a cubic inch of fat to a cubic inch of muscle, the muscle weighs more. You could as easily say that fat takes up more space than muscle even though an inch is an inch. It's just a different way of describing density.19 -
Several years ago an endocrinologist told me I would NEVER be under 200 lbs "because I've built up so much muscle from carrying all that weight around all those years." That was probably in 1996 or 1997. Over the years I gained 80+ lbs over where I was when he said that and I am now half the size of my maximum, AND safely under 200 lbs. That reminds me I really mean to take a pic of me flipping him off and send it to his office.14

Sorry the above was off topic...didnt mean to hijack.
Daft diet advice: If you eat meat you will never lose weight. Only vegetarians/vegans can be thin.
I gained weight three times as a vegetarian and lost it three times as a vegetarian! My husband remains skinny as a rail although he eats meat a few times a week.
The daftest weight loss things I have heard from coworkers:
(1) Various cleanses they have tried (and been miserable on, and ultimately had no results from)
(2) That if you eat 2000 calories per day, but only do it from noon to 8PM, you will lose weight (this from someone about my height who would, I'm guessing based on my own experience last year, need to eat about 1500 calories w/o exercise to lose 0.5-1 pounds per week)
(3) That counting calories didn't work for this one gal because she tried once and had trouble even eating 1000 calories per day (I have seen what she has for lunch most days and would guesstimate her at a size 8 -- not overweight, but definitely not anorexic either -- so she is eating more than 1000 calories per day)
(4) Complete surprise (this was 15 years ago at a different workplace) that her office chair seemed smaller compared to her rear end size because she was eating chicken every day for lunch and "chicken is healthy" (it can be, but KFC is probably NOT the best DAILY lunch choice...)
And lately, my parents have started asking me about weight loss supplements. As well as about the claim that "your body only stores food as fat if it can't 'process" the food properly." (No, if your body is storing food as fat it's because your body is working exactly as it is supposed to and you are simply consuming too many calories, unless you have a medical condition diagnosed by your doctor.) At least my parents are willing to listen to me (PhD biochemist who has successfully lost weight) and my sister (personal trainer who lost weight each time after three pregnancies) and I don't think they're taking any weird supplements.
Sometimes you just can't talk sense into people. They see my results. I tell them how the results were achieved. They go back to doing the same things they always did.9 -

The daft thing that really bugs me is when people say to me "you're lucky".
(Funny enough the harder I try the luckier I get.)49 -

I think sugar can be addictive-like but I don't think it is wise to compare it to heroin. Too different.
Perhaps smoking? Or gambling or sex addictions as better comparisons? Not the same thing but a more reasonable comparison.6 -
That sugar makes you fat.
Or fat makes you fat.
Or protein is just for body builders
Or carbs are just for body builders.Sorry the above was off topic...didnt mean to hijack.

Have you ever taken heroin? Have you ever spent time with people who are addicted and seen first hand what it does to them? Have you ever left your family, alienated your friends and committed a felony so you can get your sugar fix? Have you ever sold your car or your belongings so you can buy a cake?36 -

I've had someone tell me that anything you eat within two hours after a bicycle ride don't count.3
