@Orphia @JessicaMcB It was interesting! Haha. My depth perception was a little off with the big goggles on so I was clipping rocks alot. Thankfully only a couple scrapes. Still ended up with sand inside the goggles! The wind whistling on the cactus and rocks was awesome! But I blew over constantly. lol. Only saw 1 group of girls and they looked pretty mad and ready to get out of there. I said "hello!" No response. Eventually the sun got blocked and I thought I was on Mars. I had a great time!
And last night I was running/drafting behind this dude In a beach cruiser and he had no idea I was there. I eventually coughed and he shouted "whoa! man hey!" 28 /03 - 7.7 mile pace run, perfect pace and HR, first 4 miles @8:45, then used a cyclist as pacer, and then overtook him for the kill, he almost toppled of his bike … I think my TM has helped me getting my perfect pace, as I can go with this for hours

ROFL - Sounds very similar to my cyclist experience. Just thinking about it still makes me smile ... although I envisage him toppling of his bike rather than almost - in my head1 -

Ouch! my eye balls feel like they ran a marathon (even though I don't know what that feels like) after trying to read/catch up on all the posts I've missed. I hope all those that are nursing injuries heal fast and are able to run soon.
@RespectTheKitty -I hope you're doing better. Sounds like you have a plan and a group. I had to do IOP for awhile and it really helped me to develop some tools I use everyday.
@skippygirlsmom -I love that dog!
@MobyCarp -You're going to do great at Boston! I don't know how you can run all those miles and be that fast.
@midwesterner85 -I hope your knee holds up for your race.
@MNLittleFinn -Great job getting back to it. Your endurance should come back fast with all the training you've put in.

Happy how this month went. No injuries and feel more stable since adding the weight training. I might make it more of a regular thing. I have a 5k tomorrow. I'm hoping to do better than my last one but I've never run the course. I've been told it's pretty flat with half road/ half single width nature trail. Oh boy! Hopefully the trail part is at the second half. The weather's supposed to be nice though 69F.
Also I just started running with a friend who's pushing the pace a little but it feels good cause we can still hold a conversation which makes the miles just fly by.7 -

@MNLittleFinn - glad to see you are back and stressing about when to get runs in. I'm the say way! If I have a different event happening I have to write down all these possible options of ways to get my run in.
My mileage is way under but I'm okay with it since I was able to bike a lot. I think usually there are days on the weekend where I can't bike for whatever reason so I get a long run in. But this month I biked both days and didn't get any long runs in.
Congrats to everyone, whether you met your goal or not! At least we are running and not on the couch! appy running this weekend!

Got my last run of March in this morning. 4.05 easy miles before work. I'm feeling pretty good, despite having my lowest running mileage since last February. Still, getting in 54 miles while recovering from in jury and illness isn't too bad.... Just annoyed that I started 2017 with 2/3 months below 100 miles. Oh well, here's to April being better!4

Last run of March and boy am I glad! Caught my husband head cold and feel like *kitten*. Just did a flat slow 3.40 mile. Hopefully I'll feel better by Sunday to run.

Had a fantastic trail run last night with lots of wildlife. Saw 2 snakes right off the bat. It was in an open area, and if a man wasn't shouting at me to watch out, I probably wouldn't have noticed them. However, they slithered under a rock before I could snap a pic. I was treated to seeing 2 armadillos!! I've only seen an armadillo once before on these trails, so that was exciting. Those guys are so cute!! I saw 4 deer as well, and one was right in the middle of the trail.
I'm supposed to have a 5 mile trail race on Sunday morning, but there are supposed to be thunderstorms that morning. We'll see what happens, but I sure am hoping it isn't cancelled. Plus, there will be pancakes afterwards...yum!!

13.9 miles last night to finish the month. I missed my goal of 210 miles, but I did surpass 200 miles for the first time. I fell well short of my trail mile goal. I haven't hit the trails since I strained my calf muscle, concerned that the stretching on the uphills would set me back. Saturday I'll be back in the woods though.

@garygse ...there is an app called alltrails that I use to help find trails in the area. Trail running is definitely fun and more interesting than the roads.2

@BEERRUNNER -Looks like an awesome run.
After my short, easy run this evening, I will finish up March with just over 100 miles. Considering this is supposed to be the peak training month for my race, that's pretty depressing. On the other hand, maybe I should be grateful for the 100 miles I was able to run in stead of the 100 miles I wasn't able to run. It could be worse.
On Wednesday I got my Remicade infusion. This is the medicine I get administered every 6 weeks for my Crohn's disease. Yesterday I had a post infusion allergic reaction which causes my throat and lips to swell. I am okay after taking some Benadryl, but that wipes me out. Therefore, I missed another workout yesterday. I had planned on going to cycling class, but that wasn't happening after Benadryl. These allergic reactions have happened a few times in the past, but not that often. It seems to happen when I am stressed and rundown. In addition to health and running woes this month, work has been a complete nightmare and I have been working most weekends. Along with doctor and orthodontist and PT appointments, I just feel pretty beat up. My focus for April is going to be getting adequate sleep! Oh yeah, and running that marathon...2 -
@shanaber I love Orangetheory. It is a mix of rowing, treadmill, and weights. Every day is a different HIIT workout which I love because it keeps it interesting. The other day I rowed about 4,000m, but then on other days I will row only 500m, and do more treadmill work. Weight workouts vary too. Core, upper body, and lower body are usually worked on, sometimes not all three every day, but if you go throughout the week, you will hit those three areas. The coaches are really energetic and fun too, so that helps you to want to keep going back. I'm doing OTF Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and I get my runs in usually on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It's a good balance. If you want to try it, the first session is free. They will give you a heart monitor and you can see your heart rate and calorie burn on the screen, along with everyone else's. They like you to stay in the Orange and Red Zone for about 12-20 minutes, and the rest of the time in the Green Zone. They say the Orange and Red zones give you the after burn effect.

Knowing me, I would just run the 15 miles Saturday night. I've done that many times. I even done that 2 weekends ago. I ran an 18 mile long run late in the early evening AFTER I got up early that morning to help my neighbor and good friend move. I learned that running a long run after carrying furniture up and down stairs all morning is really tough. The last 6 miles of what normally would be a pretty easy 18 miler ended up feeling like the last 6 miles of a marathon. Maybe in hindsight it's good practice. LOL But I think the hardest thing about running a marathon is training for a marathon, and the hardest thing about training for a marathon is training for a marathon while still doing real life. My hats to you @MNLittleFinn if you pull off both (the 15 miler AND supporting your wife).
The second thing in this post that bothers me is that you have to drive an hour and a half for a 5K. I realize where you live and you don't have much of that stuff where you are. I guess it makes me appreciate where I live where practically every weekend here in the Huntsville area there is so much going on as far as races and group runs. I take it for granite that there is so much going on when it comes to running in this area.
Just this weekend alone is Oak Barrel Half at the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, TN. There's probably about 30 local people going up there to run it. There's a local Shamrock 5K in town also on Saturday as well as a Superheroes 5K the next day on Sunday (both to support the national Children's Advocacy Center) plus a 5K (Double Helix Dash) race on Tuesday night in town (you can actually see a lot of that double helix in lot a lot of strava training runs). That's just this week. Last week we had a big McKay Hollow 15K and 25K trail race on Monte Sano Mountain. The BridgeStreet Half Marathon is next Sunday that @skippygirlsmom is doing. Cookie dash 5K is the following weekend (Apr 15) which is in town. In Decatur (less than 30 minute drive) 3M River City Run 10k/5k/Fun Run this Saturday and the Heel and Crank Duathlon on Apr 8 in Mooresville, AL which is also about a half hour away drive. And that's just this weekend and next weekend. Every weekend is like that around here. If races were hard to find around here, like if I had to drive 90 minutes just for a 5K and have to plan for it way in advance, I probably would not be as enthused. My hats to all of you that aren't as lucky when it comes to find races so easy.
EDIT: Scanning Facebook, I also noticed that there is also the Grissom HS JRTC Warrior 5K this Saturday. lol

Made it. By halfway through the month, I was on track to reach my stretch goal, but I could feel the injuries closing in, and my recoveries were not fun. In April, I'm going to attempt more frequent runs at shorter distances.6 -
@Stoshew71 We're in a town of 2,000 so there aren't any races closer. She's running a 3 race series, the KP Challenge that's meant to encourage new runners. She ran a 4k a few weeks ago, she has the 5k in a few weeks, and a 5 mile in July. It's run by the same organization that's hosting my Marathon. It's also in the closest "big city" so there's the chance of getting lunch and such after, before heading home....we make a day of it whenever we head down, since it's about 65 miles. When my wife told me she wanted to run the Challenge, I was exstatic, it was only later that I thought about the logistics of fitting it into my own training schedule....LOL.....
This is just one of the new "complications" I've found with getting my wife into running....LOL......
Edit: we might be driving down the night before and staying the night in a hotel. That would make things easier....have to see if my wife can get an early out.2 -

I was also laughing at your list of races, those are the ones that come to mind right away, but I bet within a 30 min drive you can find at least 5 more in different distances. We do live in a running community for sure. It's never a question of "if" you are racing this weekend, it's more like "where". Then you have people like me and the Taylor's stuck at track meets on Saturdays discussing where we would be if we weren't there. ha ha
I did a little 2 miler this morning. I actually ran Sun, Mon, Tues and Thurs this week and my leggos are not used to that so I was tired feeling at 1 mile so I took my 2 mile route instead of having a sloppy horrible form easy to get hurt extra mile. Starting tomorrow I can run 4 miles woohoo!
Skip has a meet on Saturday. Right now she's in the 800, 1600 and 3200. She wants to do the 3200 so after the 1600 she'll decide on the 800. She does the 4x800 but one team member is hurt and the other is out of town so no one to pick up 2 slots in that race.

back to struggling with fatigue this week. I have only worked two days since I had some leave to use up but have been shattered all week. Then remembered that in addition to my usual hour each way commute I drove 700 miles in four days over the weekend. That might explain part of it!!!!
I'm trying to find an app or similar where I can simply record my lack of energy/motivation in calendar/graph form so I can see peaks and troughs. If anyone has any suggestions - I've found a couple of ME-type ones but I want something that pays attention to my diet and exercise habits too.
Had the day off today, and the sun is shining. Had some bookings to make for an Italy trip so apart from grocery shopping all I've done all day is read a book. BUT - I just noticed that I have 3.7m left in order to hit my goal and it's the last day of the month.......off to get the trainers on and go for a slow easy 3.7m run!!!!

@Stoshew71 @skippygirlsmom - I have to chuckle at the idea of a 65 mile drive being a long way to go for a race, when you live in a racing community. On March 18 I could have volunteered to pace Spring Forward 15K at a 7:30 pace, treated it as practicing MP for 9.3 hilly miles, got a free entry, had an easy 20 minute commute to the site, and possibly won my age group* even though I wasn't racing. It would have been a good Boston tune up. Instead, I endured an 11.5 hour drive to Virginia Beach to run a flat 8K hard and finish 8th in my age group. LOL.
OTOH, my team mates are happier with me for supporting the team. Sometimes life overrides doing the optimum thing for training.
*I don't know whether pacers with comped entries were eligible for age group awards. The actual winner of the 60-64 age group at Spring Forward averaged 8:34 per mile.3
