Becca, a suggestion which has helped me: go to the "help" part of MFP and type in your problem - there might be a quick fix - not sure if there is a tech on call this weekend but they can generally get you running. Good luck!

Becca – I also make a list of items and estimate what they’ll cost; when I get to grocery store, I write the cost down, rounded up to next dime. I usually can ‘count’ the number of items in my basket and multiply it by $4 and be pretty close, too. But, I have had to ask the Clerk to take off a few items for being short. It used to make me want to ‘drill a hole through the floor’ and fall through it. NOW? I have no shame! LOL! I do ‘try’ to buy something that we’ve never eaten before and ‘try’ it. Most times we are pleasantly surprised. Other times we both turn up our noses and do the cat and tongue movement trying to get the ‘taste out of our mouths’. YUCK!
I will buy chicken or hamburger patties or pork chops in bulk and then wrap them individually and mark them with date, item, and weight.
I found having to ‘log in’ on my cellphone extremely frustrating, I finally got the hang of it; but, it is still frustrating. I try to ‘log in’ in the AM for what I ‘think’ I might eat during the day and then go back and adjust.
and Barbiecat - Computer and laptops are a real P.I.T.A.!!!!! Cellphones? Well, they're small enough to sling across the room (and then hope they land on something soft).
Beth – I love 3 of my 4 MDs; I tolerate the 4th one because I have no choice. Last time I went was the first time I felt like he was taking time with me. Maybe because the reason for my visit was because I had had a seizure a few months earlier. He is only in town 2, maybe 3 days a week. The partner only sees ‘emergencies’; but, not any ‘new’ patients and not any from her former partner (who was my MD).
Joyce – I try to write my passwords out; then, some that I don’t use the accounts very often, I forget them.
Rori – Love the “All I Need to Know …” picture!

We just love our family doc. I had been an RN for several years when he was a 1st year Resident in the Family practice Residency program here. One of our universities has long been a part of IU Med school. We are in the process of building a full extension of the medical school and will be quite a draw for Evansville. Anyway, it was a 3 year program and I got to watch Dr. C grow up. Well, the poor guy never got any taller. He is quite challenged in that department. But he was the sweetest guy, wonderful bedside manner but nurses learn that in addition to bedside manner, you also have to judge his nurses station manner. That's something most faciliities don't report about. His handwriting was wonderful, at the end of his order sheet he always wrote 'thank you' then his name. The year he was to finish, our hospital was in the process of dropping the traditional Blue Cross Blue Shield eveyrone had at the time. Also my girls were at the age when I didn't think they needed a pediatrician anymore. I was done having babies so I didn't need my GYN. So us and most of the staff signed him up as our doctor. Last month when I was having a recheck from my anemia with Dr. C, he had a medical student with him and as usual, my mouth went rambling and I told him about what Dr. C was like as a resident and how he always wrote thank you. Dr C nodded and said that you need to remember those people who are going to carry out those orders you have just written. He is 60 now and thinking about retiring. He is not listed as a provider on our insurance so we have to pay extra to see him but it's worth it to have someone you know and trust and who knows you. The reason our insurance dropped him???? He does things like cut nails, remove simple things from your skin, etc. They don't like that. They want you to pay to see a specialist.

Pip: I love your doggy photos.
Heather: Happy UK Mother's Day!!!!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Barbie: Happy Birthday!!! Thanks for the reminder about Vitamin F. This group is a lifeline when we need someone who understands. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Becca: Thanks for sharing your food organization system. I agree that you do an amazing job. I'll look for coastalgosgal.
Beth: I was amazed that the AARP came right out with this in the March AARP Bulletin. These are few headlines from the article 50 Great Ways to Live Longer: 1. Consider extra Vitamin D 2.Cut back on pain pills including ibuprofen & naproxin.. 3. Pease go to bed.....30. Get a friend with four legs ...40. Find a woman doctor... 42.Take the stairs every day 46: Better yet, walk 49: Get fidgety 50. Read the AARP Bulletin. (They threw in a little nudge their way.) DH did switch to a woman doctor and I liked her so much I switched to her, too. I was already seeing a woman doctor but wasn't satisfied and chose to switch.
Today's riding lesson went well and Arrow was a good boy. I will not have lessons for the next two weeks, but I can still go to the stable and ride. This is a huge blessing from a generous stable owner, Arrow's human. The second weekend there will be a clinic at the stable on teaching your horse to cut cattle. I may go. There will be a fee to pay the presenter but I don't know how much. I'll talk with Arrow's owner about it if I'm actually available then.
On another topic--the river is deeper and I wonder about the hummingbirds that usually roost in the blackberry vines that grow below the bank. A lot of their favorite roosts are probably underwater. I hope they've found alternate shelter.

Dessert/craft auction was a success. My simple batch of Baklava sold for $60! My husband donated an afternoon of fly-tying lessons for fly fishermen ... it went for $200! These people are crazy in their generosity! I won an intense bidding war for 16 handcrafted cards that were made by a woman in her 90s ... they are beautiful in their detail! Also bid on and won two jars of beet pickles, a plate of some kind of pretzel/chocolate thing (for my son who can't have eggs) and a beautiful vanilla cheesecake with red raspberry sauce. My husband and I each had a sliver of the cheesecake ... delicious ... but I'll be freezing the rest in individual portions for use at another time.

Joyce – My GP is like your Dr. C; I call him “Dr. Cutie Pie”. He is so cute!!! I told him once that I thought his wife must be very lucky to have him as a husband. He looked up, laughed, and said … she’d probably be willing to put him out on the street if he ever had the flu again. He was out of the office for more than a week. I understood that … my DH has to have a procedure on Monday, and we have to BE there at 7:05am. OMG, I won’t even have time for coffee!!!!! I also have BC/BS – so far all my MDs are on their preferred provider list. I did have to go to a ‘lung MD’ for my last ‘sleep apnea’ tests. But, when I have to have another one in 5 years, I will go to the hospital to have it done. His bed was hard as a ROCK, the hospital’s were one of those sleep number beds. They put on a lot of wires to my body; but, they were also bundled together so getting them ‘unplugged’ was just a matter of pulling a plug. At his office, I about wet my panties before the nurse finally got me unhooked. She must have not been watching the cameras or listening because I had banged on the headboard for 2 or 3 minutes.
Beth – WOW! That cheesecake sounds delicious! I love cheesecake. I make a mean Cheese Cake Pecan Pie … very rich; but, very good!

My Mother was a HS English/Lit/Grammar teacher; and this would have been 'exactly' what she would have said to me; and, what I would have had to respond back to her, privately OR publically! My DMGD got a whipping (or being slapped at) when her mother misprounced "salmon" ... then she said, "Well, I am only doing what Nana used to do to me!" That is when I wanted to 'pinch her nose off' ... I don't 'think' that she realized that, more than anything, it had embarrassed her mother to be corrected by her. When DOS said, 'She's right; you are not pronouncing it correctly." I thought we were going to witness WWIII.

Hi Gals,
Re – that is a great NSV!!!!
Barbie – happy happy birthday to you!
Heather – London to SFO – fly in to California, I don’t have any plans over Easter, I’d love to have a girls weekend!
JFK – I was in Kindergarten and I remember everyone crying and not understanding why…. And my mom in her way, saying someone I did not know died and not to worry about it…even as a little one I knew something was wrong in what she was telling me, cause everyone was sad, wasn’t until years later that I learned about JFK that I put together the 2 events…
I have a new-ish sat/sun (which ever works for us) gardening client, who is really interesting – she’s a retired history and government teacher at the high school level (Advanced Placement).. my 3 private gardening clients are all really well educated and interesting and most of the time hang out with me while I garden in their yards – So I have this gal on the weekend, Tuesday is a retired nurse and her DH who is a nuclear physicist, Thursday is a retired librarian and her DH is a retired ophthalmologist - so I get quite an education while I garden… today was civil war…not really my time in history, but fun to hear about; she is a very good teacher.

OK I can access the site, and have it bookmarked on my silk browser. Its not the app, so I will have to load my food diary on computer, because of the small print. Its doable.

Happy Sunday
Not too good on the food front yesterday but did 45 min Leslie Sansone vid with weights and went for an hour walk in the afternoon sunshine
Forgot to put the clocks forward last night but heyho not the end of the world. Today is Mothers Day here in UK already had my Amazon vouchers (which I ask for) and cards, will be out later with DH for drinks and entertainment in bars in town
Will do some exercise this morning

Feeling a little bit sad today. My younger son rang me to wish me Happy Mothers Day, but said he had the card he had forgotten to post in his hand. He asked if we were doing anything. I said DH says I am not his mother.
It is DDIL's birthday and Mother's Day, so she is being made a big fuss of. Jealous? Moi?
Recently I asked DH to take me out to a house and garden I've wanted to see for a long time. I asked him again yesterday. He has done nothing about arranging anything. As usual I will have to organise it all myself. Just occasionally it would be nice to be taken out without having to do all the booking and organising. I guess that is not going to happen.
Perhaps I will go on my own.
Sorry for the pity party. I don't have one very often, but the thought of the eight days on my own over the holidays and the fact that he can't be bothered to do something nice for me to compensate is getting to me. He doesn't know how I feel, so I guess I can't blame him.
He is going out for lunch this week with his cricket friend very near where I want to go.
Thanks for listening.
My cancer friend rang this morning for a nice chat. Her chemo is not happening on Easter Monday, so it may be that I can go up for the following Friday if it's rescheduled for that day. DH will be going to cricket, but could drop me off at the station. I'm toying with the idea of staying over at a B&B if that's the day. Would solve one of my empty weekends if the trains are running.
Thank goodness for girlfriends!
Kim - Fantastic idea, but late booking for the Easter weekend would break the bank I think!!! San Franco is on my bucket list.
Love to all from a warm and sunny Hampshire UK XXXXXXX

My walking friend called this morning to say she won't be walking for awhile. She seems to have many physical complaints so I don't know what she cancelled for this time. The other walking friend is using the walking time to work on the house she just bought. She can leave her husband home alone only for the hour or so first thing in the morning before he wakes up. Fortunately, I have a great audio book to listen to.
Let me know today if you want a copy of "Strong Women Stay Young". It appears that there is at least one copy available to me from Paperback Swap.

Denise Welcome, wow you are quite the cyclist
Becca Beautifuk pic of you and hubby
Re Love your chocolate nsv, you go girl!
Barbie Happy Birthday, I hope you had a great day
Lanette Love your happiness graphic
So did something very cool yesterday. We went to something called Captive Escape Room. The idea is that you solve puzzles to unlock doors to move through rooms to get to the end. You have to work together as a team. It was so fun.
Have a great day.

Good morning Ladies!
I work for a company that ships food and oftentimes we are given food that was not accepted by the receiver. Usually it's because the boxes are damaged or the expiration date is too close. This is perfectly good product but they deem it unsalable. Our employees are offered the food and if any is left over it is donated to a local food bank. We found ourselves with 1800 lbs. of peeled baby carrots last week! I took about 10 lbs., passed them to my friends and experimented with making carrot soup last night, not too bad. The carrots that did not hit the pot will accompany the hummus I was given and will be served (along with other things) at book club next week. We get a lot of hummus and I usually buy baby carrots to accompany it to have when I need a crunchy snack or to make glazed carrots. It's nice not to have to buy them for a few weeks. I joked that everyone in the office will have an orange hue soon.
Saw the movie Hidden Figures yesterday, great movie based on real events. About 3 brilliant black women who work for NASA in the early days of the space program. I kept thinking "this happened in my lifetime!"
I saw the movie with a friend I haven't spent any time with in a few months. I was glad she didn't suggest we meet for a meal or drinks. We did some shopping after the movie, we caught up on our lives and got some exercise. Win-Win! I then went to the mall to pay a bill, walked around for 40 minutes and then grocery shopped, a lot of steps.
I am so determined and motivated right now and the scale is reflecting it. Lost 2 lbs. this week which is huge for me. I think adding a short KettleBell workout everyday is helping tremendously. I've lost 12 lbs. so far this year. I rewarded myself by ordering a pair of size 4 light green jeans to wear on Daffodil Weekend on Nantucket at the end of April. I have never gone, something I always wanted to attend and I hear that participants dress in daffodil themed clothes. The green jeans will complement the yellow shirt I bought at the thrift store last week. Yellow is not exactly my color so I didn't want to spend too much, $3.50 was acceptable for a new shirt in a good brand. I have been searching high and low for some sort of daffodil print article of clothing but have come up empty. Those sunny flowers are such a joy I would think there would be some sort of clothing available. Sadly, nothing.
Must get on with my day, hugs and love to everyone!

Hello Barbie
What a nice group you have here. I am new to the blog community but i have been on this page for over an year now. I already reached my weight goals. When i started i was 103 kilos/227 libs and now one year later i am 66 kilos/145 libs. Now my goals have shifted to weight lifting. I am training with a personal trainer 5 times a week. I do weight lifting 3 times a week and 4 times HIIT cardio. I just got a new routine wich i will continue for the next 6 weeks and i always set new goals for each period.
My goals for the next 6 weeks are:
Deadlift - 87 kilo 6 times
Decline benchpress - 40 kilo 10 times
Pullups - bodyweight 6 times
Dips - bodyweight 6 times
Squads - 80 kilo 6 times
Pushups on toes - 30 times without a break
I wish you all a happy March and that all your goals come through.

Becca - glad you got that app to work. I finally got MFP loaded on my little Fire tablet so can check out this group. It's kind of slow and clunky but I was happy to see that it worked. Haven't tried entering food on it yet but will fiddle with it.
Loved your spending and pantry hints!
I created a budget sheet in excel to start logging expenses to see how we are doing keeping the spending down. It's kind of like logging food - makes me think twice if I buy some un-needed doo-dad and actually see what I paid for it - am more careful now and really question do I need this, do I already have it or something I can use?
I discovered right off our Keurig coffee machine is a big budget buster. Even on sale those K-cups can be over 60 cents each. True, it's not like paying $4 for one cup of coffee at Starbucks (haven't been there in decades) but a couple cups per person per day really add up. It's DH's joy to have a cup of his Tulley's French Roast in the morning and he's normally quite frugal, so it's his treat. I've learned to like Safeway brand K-cups which come in at around 31 cents if I get them one sale.
I'll grab a cup of that then switch to a one-cup Melitta pour-over that sits atop my coffee mug and use ground coffee. I figured that comes in at 13 cents a cup including the cost of the paper filter, and tastes just as good.
Coffee is good for our brains so this is like medicine, right?
Barbie, Sorry your walking partners fizzled out. Do you have good walking trails or brightly lit areas for your night (and day) walking? Having 2 dogs - I think you'd be the last person a mugger would want to mess with. I should probably pack some pepper spray - I see they now make little Taser type devices for personal safety. DH has a fit when I walk "in the dark" even when I don't go on the main road.
Karen - wow, Olivia has really grown! Look at that sweet baby smile. So glad she's home and thriving.
Katla, I think your hummingbirds made it to our house. Had five at the feeder the other day, chasing away the larger and more timid Anna's. The weather report in our area for this coming week shows sun (or at least very little rain) starting Thursday through Tuesday - maybe that high water will recede for a while!
Kate in UK - good for you doing the Leslie Sansone walk with weights. Which one is it? I have several of hers, not sure if I have a 45 minute one. When it's warmer I take my laptop into the potting shed and put in one of her DVD's - right now it's jammed with dirt and pots it seems. Love her DVD's tho because all I need is about 4' square and a counter to set the laptop on. I think most of the steps register on the Fitbit.
Happy UK Mother's Day to you and Heather! Yinka too! And anyone else I may have missed.
Beth, WTG on the Baklava - those auctions are so much fun, sounds like this one was successful.
This is the time to start a massive de-cluttering. Our senior center is opening a thrift shop to help with costs now that the county won't be supplementing their budget next year. They want to open the doors May 1st. Boy, do I have stuff to give them - items still in wrappers/with tags on, collectible doo-dads, kitchen appliances, dishes, even some furniture and an extra TV. I think DH is a bit nervous about what's going out of here but I plan to be relentless. DH doesn't want me to have a garage sale = people tramping around peeking in the garage, driving on the lawn, etc.
I'm not going to donate him so he need not worry.
Better close and head to town for the weekend shopping - get some Walmart steps in.
Lanette
