I painted this a few years ago.

    Seriously, I did.

    It’s acrylic on canvas.

Edit: and for whatever reason the photo posted sideways. The travertine is the top of my fireplace.

    I’m very impressed!
It’s very “Rothko”, love the colors!

    One more
Painted in the last few weeks
It’s leaning up against the wall.
CD case on the stand for scale.

I did this maybe a year ago.
It’s appropriate for the music / living room
(Who uses a living room anymore? So, it has a stereo and speakers.....) This hangs above the turntable.

Thanks, I did this after seeing Rothko at the Tate Modern.

Imitation is the best form of flattery, right?

    For the record.....

Acrylic paint & stretched canvas is a lot cheaper than prozac.

MOTHER: Have some more. You hardly touched anything. Did Tommy tell you about my painting? Look at this.
(Pulls out an oil painting from alongside the refrigerator.)

    JIMMY: It's beautiful.

TOMMY: I like this one. One dog goes one way and the other goes the other.

MOTHER: One's going east, the other’s going west. So what?

TOMMY: And this guy's saying, "Whaddya want from me?" The guy's got a nice head of white hair. Beautiful. The dog it looks the same.

JIMMY: Looks like somebody we know.

TOMMY: Without the beard! Oh no, it's him! It's him.
(A thumping noise is heard through the open window from the trunk of the car parked outside.)

    TOMMY: What's that?

This one is painted on board rather than canvas. I think teal works with about any color you throw at it.

oh this is so good 💛

i know u said u painted after seeing rothko but theres thus abstract expressionist robert motherwell that went thru a time where he did large scale layered color studies with that rich paint texture that has this similar vibe too

I also did a whole series of paintings that were covered in a high-gloss resin.

It's a pain to work with, but the results can be good. It also makes the artwork essentially bulletproof.

I'll try to post one that I did a couple of years ago as an experiment. It as a ton of texture..... I'll look for it.

okay, yeah..... I'll need to dig the resin pieces outta storage & you're right, working with it can be a sticky & flammable mess.
