April 2017 Running Challenge

Low goal this month since I have the Kentucky Derby Marathon April 29th. So this will be a taper month. I may go a little over, but I didn't want any pressure on myself to make goal at the risk of messing up my taper. Hoping for a BQ!
Never let an arbitrary monthly goal mess up your marathon training!
I'm not sure I'll run any marathons after Boston 2017. It depends on whether I've learned enough to run a marathon and not hurt myself. But if you do BQ at the Kentucky Derby Marathon, I'd be almost obligated to run Boston 2018 to meet you in person.6 -
I'd like to join too - I'm trying to get back to running after kiddies. My goal would be to do 30 minutes three times a week for April, so I guess 30 miles!14
-
Still doing outpatient treatment for a few more weeks in April and working through some pretty debilitating anxiety, so my goal for April will just be to run as much as I can, mileage be dammed.
Also, April marks one year of running for me. I started C25k in April of 2016, don't remember the exact date. So like, wow. A whole year.16 -

New to the thread, but not to running! My goal is 50 miles.
I'm having some health issues, so I can't put in as many miles as I would like to. Planning to start my comeback next month!7 -
I'll target 30 again with more running hopefully!10

A great place for motivation, it's my first time to join the challenge. My March running record 115km and i'll target April to be 120km. I run 4-5 per week now.8

I'm still not sure if I qualify as a runner...
So here is my idea of a t-shirt. I should trademark the idea before I post it....
Front of shirt says:
Running: a method of terrestrial locomotion allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot where the gait is characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground
Walking: a method of terrestrial locomotion allowing humans to move on foot where the gait is characterized by one foot is always in contact with the ground, the legs are kept mostly straight and the center of gravity vaults over the stance leg or legs in an inverted pendulum fashion.
Back of the shirt says in big letters:
Joggers find dead bodies.
@kgirlhart The bottom line is that if you run, you are a runner. There is no official definition for jogging or any other stuff. Welcome. Unless you find a dead body, then you get demoted to a mere jogger.
"Joggers find dead bodies." God forbid!!3 -
Can I be in for 65 miles please?5

After taking a break in March I am back to the challenge. Putting the bar a bit higher so my April goal is 100 km. I want to improve my pace in 10 k runs as well. Wishing everyone a great and injury free April!!

Final month of training for my first half and plan calls for (gulp) 80 miles so I guess that is the mileage goal plus staying injury free.
March 11- St Malachi 2 miler (partial course preview for Cleveland Half) - DONE 25:36
May 21 - Cleveland Marathon Half
June 10 - Run and Ride Cedar Point 5k
June 11 - Run and Ride Cedar Point Half Marathon (Back up Plan) or Quarter Marathon
September 10 - River Run Half (maybe)8 -

L2B sounds like an awesome challenge. Think I'll get through a marathon or two first then I'll work out if that's enough or whether I still have appetite to go longer. Did L2B on a bike before - the Downs just before the end can be a real killer. At least on the bike once you get up there you have a wonderful descent to the finish but when running coming back down could be just as hard!2 -
Since I'm travelling a lot, and therefore not biking, my mileage will probably be up.
Going for my standard 75!6 -
Going to regret this, but aiming high ... in for 200 miles for April
So, I have just been reminded that April has a day less, with my first HM on the 1st of May, that I need to taper the last week etc, which looks most definitely like attempts to either update (downgrade) my goal or challenge my challenge ... my response: bull and red cloth ... steam coming from my nose .... Geronimo .... I am missing a couple of brain cells though, but that sometimes helps4 -
Ok, I had my post marathon recovery and ski trip in March. Last month's goal was 90, which I exceeded. This is a new month, my legs are recovered and there are no vacations in the forecast so I'm going for 150.
Happy running!!9 -

That would be awesome!!!RespectTheKitty wrote: »Still doing outpatient treatment for a few more weeks in April and working through some pretty debilitating anxiety, so my goal for April will just be to run as much as I can, mileage be dammed.

@iofred - You don't have to taper the week before that HM if you don't race it and instead treat it as a standard long run.0

OTOH, some of us have trouble treating a race as a standard long run. Best intentions, then there's that race environment.4 -
Just getting back into running after a lazy winter. My goal is to do 5k every second day so 5x15=75k (about 50 mi).2

Exactly, I am Captain Slow anyway, so I see it as an event rather than a race, we'll see how the month goes ... good thing is that my HM is in the home of the Red Bull, so bet there are some red cloth available ... and this is not called a Challenge for nothing ....1 -

Not that I should be one to judge. I'm a repeat offender in that department.2 -
I liked the shirts (usually for women) that have: "Does this shirt make my butt look fast?" Kinda hard to find, but they exist. I have two I picked up from Nike-- one with "Running Sucks" (I wear hypocritically) and the other "Not Running Sucks" (I sometimes wear hypocritically). I think both are out of print, though still get-able. Nike missed an opportunity to combine into one shirt.
But back to jogging.
I sometimes get flack for it but I really really liked Pearl Izumi's We Are Not Joggers ad campaign of 10 years ago.

Cycling season winding up, marathon training season (for me) winding down. I'm not sure what my goal should be, and I won't get to do anything Easter weekend.
I'm going to try:
Running goal: 90
Cycling goal: 2203 -

Very true. The only way I can guarantee that I will not "race" a race is to agree to run it with somebody that I know is slower. I have done this plenty of times, it's just when I am left to my own discretion that I just can't hold back.2 -

@iofred
a) You're definitely not slow.
b) I'll bet there's no way you'll be able to resist racing it
c) Even given that, you still won't taper6
