The month hasn't EVEN started, and we're already 3 pages in....
In for 168.08 again this month. Same it's gonna be every month in 2017.
Kinda reminds me of...6 -

I know I haven't been good about checking in lately, but we're already on page 4 and it's not even April 1 yet??
I've got my miles mapped out for April and should be at about 105-110. I considered setting my goal at 90 or 95 in case I miss a few, but there's something that just bugs me about being that closely under 100, so 100 it is. Realistically, my main goal is to remain healthy and uninjured as I rebuild my miles and that will come first before any mileage goal.4 -
Yay April! In for 300 this month, will hope for closer to 400 though since May will have to be lower mileage to taper for best performance at Banff. Running my first little virtual race this month for Earth Day- not gonna lie, mostly because the medal was adorable lol.
Glad to see so many in with strong mileage goals! Welcome to everyone new joining us!6 -

Haha no @ROBOTFOOD , I'm not that good! Kilometers because this Canadian might be able to push for 300 miles on like a spectacularly ridiculous month of amazingness but 400...that is straight @Stoshew71 country . I would like to get my ish together enough to ask my husband for the Iron Horse Ultra 100k registration for Mother's Day though (they're running it the last weekend of September) so I should probably be working harder to get on that level. But Banff in June where I'd like to attempt to BQ and Canadian Death Race (which is highly technical) are my focal points...idk if I am a smart enough runner to pull off IH or the training mileage it would call for.

Short runs, minimum five days a week. Nothing else.
@girlinahat Just in case you not going back to March, reposting here:
I reckon we should organise a UK MFP MRC meet up at a colour run. A few obstacles (maybe), a little running, lots of laughs, stupid amount of colour and an indeterminate amount of drinks afterwards.
i.e. http://thecolorrun.co.uk/events/ or http://www.colorobstaclerush.co.uk/locations--register.html
@iofred @pztodd @RuNaRoUnDaFiEld @Meg_Megz @louubelle16
May even allow non-MRC (or even non-MFP) friends to join?
That sounds a fun idea. Let's go for it!!!
The HM I'm signed up for sounds quite a laugh actually - I'll be walking up all the hills, and whooping through the fields. There's camping and beer (and cider, it's in Dorset) so there's absolutely no target. I imagine it'll take me about three and a half hours which is pretty slow for a HM but all i want is the medal at the end!!
5 -
Well i started the month off with a 6.1m run. I didn't take my TomTom or HRM, but had my fitbit charge so i could at least have a time target. The sun was out, and all was okay.
I tried my best not to look at my heart rate, but saw it a couple of times and tried not to get stressed about it. I think it's the stressing over it that's the issue. Its not a perfect training plan, but i know i can get through the HM, even if a lot of it will be walking. I can run 10 miles, I'll just walk the rest.
Next weekend I have a weekend away with the running club. They're all off doing ultras, I'm going to head the other direction to them, and go out for the day and see how far i get.
Happy April everyone.9 -
Marissaxzxzxz wrote: »BAA ANNOUNCES NEW QUALIFYING STANDARDS. In a radical departure from previous procedures, the Boston Athletic Association plans new qualifying standards for its 2018 race. The previous standards that began at 3:05 for men and 3:35 for women (referred to as BQ, for Boston Qualified) no longer will get you a spot on the starting line in Hopkinton. In fact, it will prevent you from entering. In a press conference today, BAA Chief Executive Officer Thom Klirg discussed the new standards: “For this one year only, we’re looking to fill our field with slow runners. We’ve already told the Kenyans to stay home. Only runners with a BU will be admitted to the field.” (BU stands for Boston Unqualified.)
The shift from BQ to BU signals the most radical departure from entry standards since 1996. In that 100th anniversary year, the Boston field was expanded to 36,000 through use of a lottery. But in the past two decades, you needed a BQ to enter the Boston Marathon. Now you need a BU.
“We felt sorry for the Boston Unqualified runners,” claims Race Director Dave McDilbert. “BU runners train just as hard as the faster BQ runners, but they have been cursed genetically. It’s not their fault that they can’t grab a BQ. The BAA Board of Governors decided that for at least this one year, we would allow slow runners to enter the race without having to raise $10,000 or more for charity.”
To gain entry to Boston 2018, you must post a slow time during the 2017 calendar year on a certified course with the finish line time kept running even into the next day if necessary. Fast runners who have achieved a BQ regardless of year will be denied entry. “We plan to examine race times not only for 2017, but also for every year since 1996,” explains the BAA’s Communications Director, Jock Flaming. “Any sign of talent or ability, and you’re out until next year.”
For those with BU (Boston Unqualified) times, registration opens April 1 and continues until the same day next year.

You have some amazing races/goals! a BQ is parsecs away from where I'll ever be. You're going to rock it. Then the Death Race, and maybe the 100k? Awesome!1 -
April goal: Stay healthy, get my runs in and increase my long run distance
Nominal mileage goal: 191 miles
4/1- 15.23
Total: 15.23
Today's notes: 15.23 miles in 35F cloudy, breezy and (for the last 2.2 miles) rainy weather. 9:41 pace wasn't too bad, only 0:08/mile slower than my PR for 15 miles, and I actually ran 1/10 mile further this time, for a new distance PR. Average HR was 164, which was right in line with where it was when I ran this distance the previous times, so I felt pretty good about that, though I do feel more tired than I remember feeling the last time.
Finally got a long run in, after over a month of injury and recovery, then illness, then more illness, it's good to run long again, and nice to see that I haven't lost too much cardio.4 -
Today's run had some April Fools surprises in store. The biggest surprise was that it turned out to be a great run in the end!
Weather was supposed to be overcast and 44 degrees F throughout the run with light wind so I dressed in shorts and compression shirt since I'm good like that down to 40 degrees in those conditions.
The first 3 miles sucked 507 million *kitten*. I wasn't feeling it, my high HR alert was constantly coming on too soon and I was SLOW! I was wondering if I would turn around at the 4 mile mark and cut the run a couple miles short. But at the 4 mile mark I just ran right through without even thinking about it and found myself at the 5 mile turnaround before I knew it.
By the 7 mile mark I started feeling a bit cold. The wind was at my back on the way out and in my face all the way back. It was darker, cloudier and definitely cooler than just before sunrise when I started. There wasn't anything to do about it so I just kept running. I noticed that every other person on the planet was wearing long sleeve shirts or jackets and pants, be they walkers, runners, cyclists, and they all seemed to look at me as I passed them like I must be crazy to be so under dresed. I just said, "good morning" and tried to act like I was all cozy warm. Luckily it did not rain or I might have died. I see on Strava that some were not so lucky today and got all sorts of various wet stuff dumped on them. You have my deepest condolences.
Despite being too cold, the rest of the run went very well. I felt like I performed better on my last mile than the data shows, so I was clearly out of gas but just didn't feel that way yet.
So in all, it was a good run, despite the suckfest at the start and the surprise cold air. My pace was even a bit batter than expected!
4/1 - 10 miles
10 of 120 miles complete

Wow, my slang said *asparagus* instead of *kitten*. Interesting...2

April Running Totals (miles)
4/1 – 18.19 paced run
April total to date – 18.19
Nominal Challenge Goal – 150 miles
Real Goals: Run Boston. Finish healthy. Recover well.
Today's notes – The last long run of my training cycle coincided with the FF training program hosting the first of two public preview runs for the Flower City Half Marathon. The first 7.5 miles or so of today's run were the first part of the course, including the preliminary hills before the course enters Mt. Hope Cemetery. We left the course just before the cemetery, and continued on a city running route of mixed character.
Because the course preview was open to the public, the pace group had some new people for the first 11 miles. Some were runners I knew, others were not. Most of those dropped out at the 11 mile mark. I dropped out at 18 miles, leaving my co-pacer to run with the trainees to fill out their first 20 mile day ever.
Weather was 36º F (2º C) with mist. It never turned into a real rain, so it was quite a bit more pleasant than the rainy run a week ago. OTOH, the parts of the route that weren't the race course featured far too much distance in the heart of the city on streets where traffic and narrow or non-existent shoulders forced us from the relatively soft asphalt to the hard concrete (or worse, slate) sidewalks. And there were lots more stoplights than I thought were necessary for a route starting at Blue Cross Arena.
The buildings were apparently messing with GPS, as my watch showed current pace bouncing around more than I thought our actual pace was varying. But the total distance and total time came out to be a reasonable 8:06 average; would have been closer to the target 8:00 absent those stoplights:
This is my last true long run before Boston. Next Saturday, I'll run 12 miles. I may have one day of intervals that adds up to over 10 miles. Other than that, it looks like single digits between now and Patriots' Day. The main task now is to stay healthy and get to the start line in good shape.

First run of April = 26.5 miles.
April fool!
It was just 6.5.8 -
Date - Mi - MTD (Goal = 90)
4/1 - 11.50 - 11.50
First long run of the month in the books. Started off a little fast and slowed down around mile 7. Got to test out my brand new Garmin on the run! Didn't charge it and it only came in partially charged so I had to turn it off right before mile 8 before it ran out of charge. Noticed that my Runkeeper seems to consistently have an extra 0.02 mi to 1 mile compared to the Garmin. This has been messing up my pace! I trust Garmin's satellite GPS more than Runkeeper's cell phone tower GPS so I ran an extra half mile according to Runkeeper. Will start using my Garmin on most of my runs now.4 -
4/1 - 7.0 mi.
April goal: 7/1003 -
4/1 - 4 miles on the dreadmill + cross-training - zumba
April Total: 4/170
351 miles/2,017 miles - goal for the year
So, I was on the dreadmill again today, since I was already at the gym for my zumba class. Was supposed to do 5 miles, but after being stuck on the thing for 9 miles last night I couldn't stand it anymore, lol. So tomorrow's long run will be 13 miles instead of 12, in the great outdoors! Besides, I also kill myself in this zumba class and I was tired, lol. But, building on last week's accomplishment of having someone ask my very white self if I study African dance, this morning one of the actual African dance ladies high-fived me after I was up front with her again for my favorite African number. Booya!
3/11 - Bill Fortune 10k (dnr - sick)
4/9 - JFK Runway 5k
4/29 - Run for the Wild 5k (through the Bronx Zoo)
5/14 - Tinkerbell HM (Disneyland)
6/4 - GW Bridge Challenge 10k
6/10 - NYRR New York Mini 10k
6/25 - Bay of Fundy HM
7/ 8 - Women’s Distance Festival 5k
9/10 - S. Nyack 10 Miler (registration not open yet)
