Good morning everyone! Happy Saturday!
I always sit on the edge of my bed after I take my gabapentin otherwise I don't walk very well. (It's for nerve pain) I read a little on my iPhone and look outside.
It's going to rain again today thru Sunday and it's suppose to be a bad storm. So, I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday and picked up some craft paper and some artificial rose buds to play around with today.
Dolly is yawning in her kennel, so I'll let her out. DH will have to let her outside and dry her off when she comes back in!
He's the dog wrangler around here!! I just pet her and get doggie kisses!

Allie It's a good thing to have your own accounts. My DH and I have since we were married. We have both been divorced and learned the hard way. Besides it gives both parties a sense of equality and it's important for a woman to have her own money.

Heather. No, were not nervous about the trees. They are not hanging over the house plus the roof is steel. Central Arkansas receives 55 inches of rain a year. The state is covered with woods and National Forests. In the southeast corner is mostly rice fields.

KJLaMore LOVE the pictures of your little grandson! So cute!! It does rain a lot in Arkansas. That's why it's so green!! You will have to come back and explore!

Pip I think I would look for a new job! My DH and I both worked for the state of Texas so there cost of living increases and regular raises. But if you like the company and you're comfortable that says a lot. Does that include health insurance and a retirement plan?

Joyce My favorite place to look out is in the kitchen nook. I have my grandmothers old table and our laptop set up there. It's a great place to watch the neighbors go by with their dogs and the squirrels and birds! I had to buy an Arkansas field guide for birds to learn all the names.

Hi all,
I managed 400 cals of exercise this morning, but my arm wasn't happy about it. Going to do another 200 on the bike this pm as I really need my 1800 allowance. I like to eat!

We went out to lunch while the viewing was going on with no high expectations, but the meal was exceptionally good. Amazing that I didn't know about this place! Going to give it a good write up in Trip Advisor.
Then we went to the fish shop and, as usual, spent a fortune. Just love me some fish.

Came back to a note to say the viewing was really positive. Hope to get more feedback on Tuesday. (Monday is a Bank Holiday here)

Fed up with my arm. I managed to drop cottage cheese in the supermarket and spill it all over the floor. Oooops!

Just found your challenge. I started Keto last week and was in LA for work this week. I walked everywhere, had only 2 meals per day and lost 2.5 lbs in 4 days. Now I'm back in
KC where it's raining. Heading to the gym. BTW, there is a 60 Keto Challenge beginning May 1st if anyone is interested. Google it. I think it's from the diet doctor.

Karen in VA - I need to hire your garage organizer. Holy smokes-sounds like she was a pistol but the job got done. We get so used to our "stuff" - it's hard to see the clutter sometimes until we trip over it!

Heather, the photo's of your friends at a young age were great. Love seeing the fashions and hair styles then. You looked fabulous - I agree, looking at photos of myself when I was younger - I am surprised at how nice some of them were when I all saw at that age was my frizzy hair, awkward height and crooked nose. So wishing I could be somebody other than me. Most teens go thru that stage for a while I think. Thanks for the tip on attaching images - I see the icon there now. Glad the viewing was positive, by the way. You never know anymore - when the stars line up they do. Crossing fingers it works out. Sorry your arm is still sore.

Toni - your scrambled egg lunch sounds great and I think that will be on the menu today, thanks for sharing that idea! Laughing cow cheese is also my favorite spread like that. Lots of yummy for really very few calories. Shirley cat sounds precious. I told our indoor kitty how nice some other people's cats are and she tried to ambush Sophie and scratch her then yowled for more food. Not sure if that's her nature or if she was severely abused as a kitten since we got her as a rescue.

Dana, love your house and that setting is very nice! Around here the fir and cedar trees have such shallow roots they tip easily plus become a fire hazard so we don't have any close to the house, but hardwoods like yours are great and make wonderful shade. I too have my laptop set up on a little table in the breakfast nook. Nice and peaceful way to keep track of the critters in the back yard.

Pip - I'd been wondering about your work situation. Hard to think about switching jobs when retirement is around the corner, but more $$ is nice. However, starting over - a person often is at the bottom of the salary grid again. Sounds like overall, you like where you work and there are bennies other than $$ which keep you there. Hoping you can make the move downstairs soon which should make it easier for you. JUST read your later comments. I managed to stick it out fairly well my last couple years by thinking I'd "bloom where I was planted." Over all worked good BUT that's not to say I didn't grow a few thorns....

Becca, isn't it interesting to see photos of ourselves throughout the years? I don't have my pictures organized but always ponder the state of my life when I run across one from years ago. Was I happy? Sad? What made me happy then? Since I retired I now have the luxury of picking over the pebbles and finding the enduring gemstones I want to keep close.

Allie, good for you starting an investment account. The stock market has finally woken up and hopefully will stay that way. Good that no matter what, half of Tom's retirement is yours. And I think I read somewhere that if you've been married at least ten years you'll be eligible for his social security amount? I might not be right on this but something to check out. I know if I pass away before my DH that he can then up his SS to mine (mine is a little bit more.) Providing they don't restructure SS. I've read some ideas on how that might change - so far it appears it would be different but not really affect our retirements unless a person is in a high tax bracket. We are far from it at our house.

OK, it's warming up nicely outside and I need to move the plants into the greenhouse. Got a little walk in this morning, cut it short because I was cold and the allergies started up. I like the Allegra OK except my eyes continue to itch but I have meds for that. Didn't sleep real well but it might have been the little snack of chicken curry before bed. Not a lot of lot of calories BUT a lot of fire! It was delish.

The other morning I watched a bunny out in the yard munching on grass. It was so nice to see it; I hoped DH would stop his shooting them. This morning we both spotted one.... I asked him if he was going to continue to shoot them since we have everything - trees, shrubs, garden - protected from them. He said no, he was done. I was glad. If a bunny decides to attack the dog or invites his friend the beaver over to topple our little fruit trees, then the artillery will resume. But for now, Bambi and Thumper are safe.

OK, better close. Here's something to ponder:

Pip, I hope there is a solution for your job that works for you. When I made my decision to retire at age 58, it was after hearing someone talk about "quality of life". If I had worked for two more years, I'd have had two more years of enormously stressful work and sleepless nights but more money while working and more money in my pension. Instead by retiring, I got a life of joy and less insomnia and the less money hasn't been a problem. I'm not suggesting that you retire, just that you think of "quality of life" along with money and decision making factors.

Allie, making good financial decisions for yourself is the beginning of moving on to a good life for yourself without Tom. Bravo to you.

Thanks Katla. Jettisoning 54 years of friendship, when I know exactly why she is like she is (unhealthily co-dependent relationship with her mother, only child) and feel very sorry for her current suffering is not an easy decision. I do love her, but I can't currently bear to be around her.

Walking - I walked 4.5 K on Thurs. at a pace of 12 min 20 sec per K. Still won't get me to the finish line in 1 hour, but awfully darned close. I told my PT that I was worried about not completing in the time allowed and he said they will still let me finish and get my medal for completing the walk. Apparently the complete times are set to simply discourage folks who are way too slow from signing up.

Job - I still have not landed anything. Feeling rather discouraged. Cannot say for certain it is my advanced years, but I have 3 other friends close to my age who are facing similar issues. They are in different fields and live in different areas so we are not competing for the same jobs. Had a long talk with my beloved DH. I will continue to look for a few (2-6) months longer, but we are starting to talk about the possibility of my changing my mindset to "I am retired" and are discussing what does that look/feel like. Do we have enough saved up so that I can hold off taking SS until I hit 66? Have appointment with financial adviser to explore that a option bit more before making it a final decision.

Health - Had appointment with plastic surgeon to discuss my second (and final) skin removal (arms, boobs and a little more on the thighs) surgery. Will be going under the knife on May 25. I'm excited to have this done, but nervous about the recovery. I have just recently gotten back to all of the weight levels I was at with my strength training that I was prior to my abdominal/thigh surgery. I really don't want it to be another 11 months before I am back after this one. On the other hand, the surgeon says this one should be far less invasive with a shorter recovery time. Guess time will tell.

Barbie ~ I too retired at 58! I wasn't really ready to quit, but, the situation that I would have been in the next school year was not to my liking. I think this was because I had my 30 yrs in and they wanted younger teachers at less pay.

Went to grandson's ball game and enjoyed it very much. My DnL, her mother, and I all sit together. I am a little sad that they are so close to each other and sometimes I feel very left out of the conversation. But, they are both very sweet people and I am so glad that we all get along.
