Trying to gain weight sucks

Is it just me or does it seem like trying to gain weight is way harder then trying to loose it?

For some people it seems that way just because they are used to eating less calories, it's the way I am. Others feel the exact opposite, definitely a personal thing.5

It's not just you, but it's not me. I could gain weight very easily, without trying or thinking about it. Losing weight requires effort, both mental and physical...11

I can't gain weight. All I do is loose it. I was at 112 then I dropped down to 83. I don't know how but I can't get back up.1

So eat more.
Perhaps a visit to the Dr would be a good idea to rule out any medical reason you may have for dropping that much weight.5 -
Oh. My. God. Obviously I eat. Lmfao. I eat all the time. It's not like I just magically stopped eating a lost weight. Im honestly so sick of hearing that. All I hear is eat more, you look anorexic, etc.. i wouldn't be hear if it wasn't an actual problem. Lol.8

How is it obvious to me, or anyone else here, that you eat? You obviously don't eat enough to be in a calorie surplus, or you'd be putting on weight.
If you eat and have actually lost that much weight, see a Dr.17 -
It kinda is obvious because if it was something that simple I'm pretty sure I'd know. And I have seen a doctor. They did test and took my blood and said that I'm fine and they don't know what else to tell me. But I mean you can't tell me someone loosing that much weight out of nowhere? I was 112 and now I can't get above 87. I'll get up to 87 and then drop right back down.1

Are you trying to eat "clean" while gaining weight? If so, that's most likely your problem. Grab a jar of peanut butter and a spoon, or a pint of ice cream once in a while and your weight gain problems will quickly disappear.21

See another Dr. Losing that much weight without trying is not normal, and unless you're very under 4ft8, you're underweight.
And eat more.13 -

I definitely would seek a second opinion if that was the only response you got from your doctor. It's very worrisome that you are unable to gain/maintain your weight if you are eating in a surplus. Your dr does not sound like they are taking your health very seriously, please look into another one.3

Show us that you can consume 3000-3500 calories a day for a week. I doubt if the scale doesn't show weight gain. And yes I've heard this same argument from males trying gain weight saying they "eat all the time". When actually counting how many calories they ate, it ends up always being less than they needed in a day to gain weight. Hence the result.

That what I was thinking. I think as a doctor she should've looked into to it a lot more3

Yes, sometimes doctors truly disappoint me when they don't look into things further that are obviously very serious. That is a lot of weight to lose no matter what, so unless you are anorexic and not eating enough (which obviously you are eating plenty since you said you are) then it's important to keep seeking answers.4 -
Omg! Thank you. You understand. Haha! Everyone always just tells me to eat more. But I honestly feel like I'm eating enough.0

If you aren't gaining, or holding on to weight, you aren't eating enough calories. You may be eating a lot of food, but you can make choices that are low calorie or more calorie dense. You need to increase your calorie density not the physical amount of food you eat.12 -

If it was me I would track my calories and food intake honestly and accurately for a week or two, then bring the information to the dr, that way they know exactly what's going on. Do you by chance know your average caloric intake for each day?

Settle down guys, be nice! Lol
Kay. Something you are doing has obviously changed. What is your fitness routine? Are you doing significantly more cardio? A lot of people say they can't gain weight but are afraid to go 100% into a surplus. You need to do exactly that. Increase your daily totals. Do not be afraid to gain body fat. What are your daily totals looking like? As many have stated, they are obviously under your maintenance if you continue to lose weight.

True! But I still don't think I'd just randomly loose weight. Nothing has really changed in my life. I eat just as much now as I did when I when I was 112 probably even more. But I don't know. You could be right.1

Again, track your eating. How many calories do you consume in a day? Whatever it is............eat 1000 calories more on top of it.

I feel like I'm eating enough but you're probably right. I'll start keeping track. Thanks2

Step. 1. Eat more calories. Log everything you eat accurately for a couple of weeks. Weigh yourself during this time.
Step 2. If eating a ridiculous amount of calories, but not gaining weight, go to Dr, with your food diary, and demand tests and answers.
ETA: Step 2B. If you log and realise you are eating far too little, just eat more. Eat more meals. Drink calories. Choose calorie dense foods - these can be nutrient dense, or not.6 -

I just finished reading and was coming here to say the same thing. If she logs her food 100% accurately and at 3,000 calories per day isn't gaining weight it's time to take the food log to the doctor. No matter how skeptical a doctor might be about someone losing weight when they aren't trying it's hard to ignore an accurate food diary.7 -
See, this is the whole point of MFP. Have you filled out your diet & fitness profile with your current stats and selected "gain 1 lb a week" in the goals? MFP will give you the number of calories you need to eat to meet that goal. By logging everything you eat (not estimating, BTW), you will know if you are in fact eating enough to achieve your goal. *Thinking* you are eating enough doesn't mean anything.7

You're right. We don't know you. We don't know your activity level, anything about your personal life, your food intake, your medical history.
What we do know is that to gain weight, people need to eat in a caloric surplus. SIMPLE. You may have a medical condition that means your caloric needs are more than a normal person, but you don't know that so you can't expect us to either. Telling you that you're not eating enough and that you need to eat more is not rude. It's the answer.12 -
Oh, I know how hard it is to gain weight. I have malabsorption issues, so it's taking me a long time to see any results. Seriously listen to the veterans though. Log your calorie intake and limit the cardio. If that doesn't work, see a doctor and maybe a dietitian.
For what it's worth, and not to sound condescending, you're on the younger side of the spectrum in this site. At 19, I would have considered some of the responses to be rude. At 30, I read them as constructive criticism. Don't take things personally; it will more likely hurt than help you.13 -

So don't sit here and tell me what I am and am not doing. When I say I'm trying everything. I'm trying everything. Maybe I'm not eating enough? But I'm going to try to now. And I've already said that. Over and over and over again have I told you that you could be right. So I don't see why you keep telling the same thing. Lol. I get it. I got that along time ago. So just drop it already.
You're "trying" to eat 2200 calories, or you are eating 2200 calories?
If you were eating that much, but seeing no results, and trying everything, wouldn't you be trying to eat more?4 -
I am trying. But I don't really have a way to get good groceries right now without a car so I kinda just have to live off what's a around me in the middle of nowhere until I get my vehicle fixed. it's rough. But I am trying. So because of you guys telling me that I should really just try eating more im take you all up on that and I'm gonna look some stuff up and find healthy food with good calories and see what I can find around me. Because I want to gain weight and I want to be happy with myself so I'm willing to do whatever it takes.3

As I mentioned, when you turn 30, you'll look back when you were 19 and chuckle. We've all done it.
