Is it just me who wants to see who they're talking to or who you're sharing information with?
A lot of people add me who seem lovely but why don't they have a profile pic?, I have started automatically deleting because I'm not going through the whole, "are you male or female?, why have you added me?" conversation every time.
It should be a rule to have a pic on these kind of sites.
The last thing we're here to do is judge, we just want to see who's on our page, agree??

There should be a rule to have a pic on these kind of sites? Ever heard of catfish or had you pics stolen by the others? You'll never know who's behind the pic until you facetime or skype.
Are you going to verify all your social media friends pictures then? It is not a realistic request15 -
I'm more prone to add people with pics as well lol2

I think a profile pic, whether real, silly, or fake, gives a little insight into what that person is like. While I don't require MFP friends to have a profile picture, I find myself conversing more with the ones that do. And usually, the ones that never put up a picture end up falling off the wagon and never post or share on their profiles, so they end up getting deleted anyway.13

Agree 1004

How does a profile photo somehow prove a person is who they claim to be? I could lift any number of candid photos from IG or FB and look like a 'real' person. Or I could keep my Elvgren art and depend on my interactions on the forums to speak to my genuineness.11

Hmm don't agree2

I disagree 100%
PS: I don't want you to add me.27 -

Good point! A profile picture doesn't have to be of that person though. I like the ones that are NOT selfies. It helps me get an idea of what kind of person they are. That and the user name...2 -
You have no idea based on mine I am sure.2

But I like my current picture...5

Great pic TT. And spot on for why I run/obstacle/weight lift.1

I'm inclined to agree. Even though I have awesome friends on my list who don't use themselves in their profile pics, I at least know what most of them look like.
You know who else hides their identities by covering their faces? ISIS. Just sayin...
ETA - I've learned that some people take me way too seriously, so just know that I'm mostly joking. I don't really suspect anyone of being a terrorist.1 -

Ha, looks like I was just a few seconds late on my edit.0

Oh c'mon now. I actually had you in mind when I wrote the part about having awesome friends in my list that don't use their pics. You know how much I adore you and Sweet D.3 -
We didn't take you seriously. Your 'joke' was just in poor taste @captbklee Surely you expected to be called on it?5

OP is spot on...0

I didn't think it was in particularly poor taste as someone who's actually fought ISIS, but I've never been accused of being rigid.
It wouldn't be Friday if I didn't ruffle someone's feathers on MFP.3 -
I guess it depends on the folks who are interacting. I am at a point in my life where I am exploring some new found passions in art and photography so I like to see a lot of pictures, whether they are of the individual or not. Now I do not really like it when there is absolutely nothing in the profile pic space, but that's just me. Again I really, really, like photos/art.3

I appreciate and respect people wanting to remain anonymous. I sometimes wonder if I should remove my picture. I do like seeing a picture, but I can get a feeling of who I am dealing with based on peoples words better than what they look like.10

i agree with the OP. everybody on mfp should have a profile pic so we know who they truly are.4 -

Nor ruffled But I'm old and stodgy (rigid perhaps) that way and probably have a personal history that lends me toward finding jokes about terrorism extremely unfunny. But that's the beauty of the internet - room for everyone!2 -

Pictures don't have to be a selfie...I see many pictures of someone crossing a finish line, on a bike, in the mountains, etc. You can see the person - but not clearly.
I also believe that no picture means that they will not be on MFP 6 weeks from now.3 -

Disagree. I used to have a pic of myself on here, but decided to remove it. Mainly because I don't want to "bump" into someone I know in "real" life on here. I like my anonymity. It is easier to stay honest knowing I have a *little* bit of protection with my anonymity.
I also don't request or accept friends on here, besides my husband. I used to, but found there was no benefit add. I just stay active in the forums and get to know people that way.
So, no skin off my back if you don't like Ariel.6 -

But you have an avatar...and I (personally) think that still qualifies as a pic. A lot of thought can go into an avatar :-)3 -

I appreciate and respect their decision to be remain anonymous too ... so they should appreciate and respect my decision not to accept their friend request. I mean I have the right to have preferences too right?
However, for me a blank friend request is worse.5
