Are we really advocating someone cut to underweight so they are the magic 10% to bulk?

I'm advising OP cut to 10% yes, it's transitional phase, set's him up for a lean bulk and primes his body for gaining lean muscle tissue. If he takes his bulk slowly he can bulk for 6-8 months or longer, without his bodyfat levels getting out of control.

But only if he is lean enough to start with.

OP is 6' and 160 lbs, which I think would be pretty lean already. Can anyone estimate his BF% based on his photo? I don't think @pbryd is advocating that he cut until he is underweight. OP still has a few pounds before he would be underweight. I would also be interested in knowing what program OP is currently doing? How long he has been on it? What his starting weights/reps/sets were when he started? And what these numbers are now (not estimated 1RM but actual numbers)?
