Rolled out of bed this morning before the crack of dawn, ready to get my day done before it got hot. 68 degrees and light rain says the weather. Got dressed, went outside, and the ground is damp but nothing is falling from the sky. Drive three miles to the path, get out of the car and see lightning. Check the weather again; thunderstorm with an ETA of 20-30 minutes. Blah. Back home with me.
Home from work at 4:30. 82-feels-like-87, bright sunshine, not going to get any cooler before it starts raining again. So off I go.
- "I'll carry some water with me, just in case." Nope, Bottleband went to camp with the teenager, and Costco water is hard to carry even when you're walking. (I did drink ~16oz in the hour before, so was decently hydrated.)
- "I'll just wear my big floppy hat, to keep off the sun and in case the 30% chance of rain in the next hour materializes." I didn't realize this was a poor choice until I got to the cooldown, took it off, and felt the breeze through my sweaty hair. Just use the sunscreen, Phoebe.
Wow, feels-like-20-degrees makes an enormous difference. My legs were fine. My lungs were fine. It was just so hot. About 3/4 of the way through, I kicked up a sharp rock into my shoe, and didn't stop to shake it out because I would not have been able to start up again. A few minutes later, my stomach became very, very unhappy. This is the first time I checked the time because I was sure I should have heard the "you have one minute remaining" prompt by then. (~90 seconds, so not too far off.) The warm-up distance that took me 5 minutes going out took 10 coming back.
The moral of the story is that if you sit around the house eating bonbons early in the month, you can't make up your mileage or your calories later on. I should have waited until tomorrow morning.
Nevertheless, I persisted. I timed just the run portion today, to get a better idea of my speed; 12:28 going out and 12:50 coming back.

I'll post totals later, but I didn't make my goal. I have enough extra miles from earlier in the year to stay ahead of the 2,017 goal for the year.2

Finished up the month on the treadmill in the hotel in Atlanta before heading home this morning. It was a good run and actually felt pretty decent even on the treadmill! I am about 0.5mi sort of my goal... could have run longer this morning. I was worried about time, getting breakfast and getting to the airport or I would have made my goal!

They are free (and imaginary). DH says mines really a Crown Royal bag. Perhaps. But "crown", and "Royal" sound like the perfect place to but my problems/obsessions. @PastorVincent thanks I got a garmin with chest strap, I've some questions but I'm going to ask in the July thread.
I'm afraid I may still need to learn to run at more slower pace, not running that effortesly plus having no rest days took the tool of me the past thursday I had to stop and rest three times when running at fast pace, I felt pretty tired since then I've had easy 30 min runs. But I'm happy having a new PR 264 kms-164 miles, I'm going to take July easy and maybe try to break it in Aug-Oct.1 -

just playing catch up reading the last reports for June.
Happy to report I broke my nominal goal of 50 miles for June.

aid station support for Burrington Blaster race

6/6 re-starting Stronglifts 5x5 - squat, bench and row just with the bar. Hamstring twinging.
afternoon swim - much much better than the previous swims - getting the hang of breathing a bit more now - like remembering to breathe in!!
7/6 1.76 miles plod. Need to run further, this isn't far enough for me to get into the groove of it so it feels awful
8/6 3.57miles. working my way back up to more regular running. legs still aching somewhat from the strength training.
