Seriously? No wonder you all take so long shopping...

You know there have been multiple times I never even tried on my clothes? Just went into the store (grocery store even), grabbed some jeans/khakis/shirts and checked out. Got home. Fit perfect...

I know my size in mens pants, so if I'm in a rush I'll just shop in the mens department. Don't exactly fit 100% properly, but thankfully my work is uber-casual so no one cares

A size 7 and a size 4 are roughly the same size...Odd Numbers are "Junior" sizes, Even Numbers are "Misses/Woman's" sizes. The cut it fuller in the bust and hips for "Misses/Women's"

This is true. In the photo she is wearing a 4 (misses size) and then a 7/9 (junior size). That means she is wearing the same size in two photos and one size up in the last photo. There is confusion on sizes when people don't know about the two different sizing charts. But, it's easy to know because the misses is even, and the juniors is odds. They both have size 0, but juniors is smaller than misses (leads to more confusion in mfp conversations).

But, there is still vanity sizing. And places like the Gap/Old Navy are some of the worst in that area. Although J.Crew is even worse. At J.Crew, the 00 is too big for me.

Also sizing charts vary internationally as well.

I was told once that it depends on the cut of course but also I think it is how much and what kind of elastic is in the material now days. In my younger years there was no stretch so most brands fit the same....

It's hit and miss even for men's clothes, but it's not as bad as women's. My pants size can differ by an inch between different brands, but not more. Shirts are also just one size apart between stores, never more.

Now, if it's between countries all bets are off, even when they're on the same sizing scale (supposedly).

yup the disadvantages of being a woman I am afraid.

I am an Australian size 10-11 (American 6) and I have this particular pair of skinny jeans (size 11) that fit perfectly but then another pair of size 10 jeans that swim on me!

Yes, very true, and quite infuriating as well.

I'm aiming for about a size 6-8 jeans, but when I say that, I mean a size 6-8 in a specific brand and cut of jeans. I don't expect that when I get to my goal that I'll be able to go to any store, pick up a size 6 and a size 8 and head to the fitting rooms and have them fit. I've chosen one line to measure by, and when I go from a 12 to a 6 in that line is when I'll consider it a success. I have a feeling I'm not the only one who does this. I know I am losing the volume because when I started out, I was in an 18 and have moved down to a 12 in that line, and when I hold the 18s that I now can't keep up up to the 12s I wear now, the difference is undeniable.

My work trousers are a 16 and they're just starting to get lose, but the work trousers I can't wear any more because they're too big are also labelled as a size 16. Holding them up to one another for size comparison shows how different they really are in size. On the other hand, I have a size 10 in another brand that fits now.

I have that problem. I can sort of understand it when it's different stores (although there should be a standard) but I have a t-shirt and a jacket from the Tu range at Sainsburys. The t-shirt is a size 24 and JUST fits. The jacket is a size 16 and fits perfectly O_o
Most places I seem to be a 16 t-shirt and 18 trousers, although seem to be slipping down to size 16 trousers too. I only tend to buy clothes from Plus Size specialist places. I expect if I went into Next or something and tried on regular size 16/18 stuff they wouldn't fit. I tried on size 22+ things at Primark the other week they were all too small.

    Very true.

When Mudd jeans and Lei jeans first came out (probably 15 yrs ago).. I could wear an 10 in Lei, and the Mudd jeans, same style as the Lei, I had to go to a 14 or a 16 to not look like they had been painted on.

This is why I hate the fashion industry...women's sizing makes me angry! I've worn pants before that weren't a number size they were a color! A DAMN COLOR! Who wears size blue? Oh not me I'm a yellow..teehee!

Sadly this is true. When I walk into a store and I want to try on jeans I have to grab four different sizes of the same pair, in each color I am interested in. Because not only are the sizes different from store to store and brand to brand, but I have also found that the in the same brand, style and store; different colors of the same pair of pants may fit differently as well.

This is why I hate shopping.

Yes, this is true. There is no standard sizing in women's clothing.

    Why the heck not?

Men's pants are sold by waist circumference and inseam length. Problem solved.

Because of this, I typically only buy one brand of jeans because I know what to expect with the sizing and cut. I do this the same with work clothes as well. All of my suits are of one brand.
