What terms/phrases wind you up about losing weight?

"HELP, my wedding is in X weeks and i have to lose X pounds so i can look hot in the photos"10

People that correct other people's spelling and grammar.
Not everyone is good at spelling. My boyfriend is a terrible speller. It's not that big of a deal. I don't understand why people get so upset at a word being misspelled.9 -
What annoys me is people using their first post to ask "I want to lose weight - what should I eat?".
I mean really - do a little research. Or at least tell us what you like or dont like, if you are on a special diet or have allergies, or SOMETHING to give anyone a clue as to what to suggest.
I just want to answer "eat what you eat now, only less."

People who say they want to "tone up" or "tone their muscles" tend to think that certain exercises will change the shape of their muscles. That's basically impossible.
If somebody wants to "firm up", that basically means they want to lose some more fat from over top of the muscles and really has nothing to do with the muscles at all.
So, I guess that makes "firm" or "lean" a better term because it actually describes what the person wants?
("Muscle tone" is a real thing, but it's not what most people are describing when they talk about taking a yoga class to tone up.)2 -

You guys find a lot to be annoyed about. The only one mentioned so far was not an example...I hate when people call other people "snowflakes" in any context. Guess what...no two people are alike. Thus, it's not really an insult to call them that; it's accurate. They are snowflakes. So are you.
I'm assuming you're referring to my use of "snowflake", I'm not a snowflake - I'm a human being. I don't melt, completely, when it's hot out. I'm also not insulting anyone.
But that's the beauty of opinion's, you don't have to agree5 -
Mommies only or women only
Seriously we are adults here why can't we be friends regardless of gender and kids12 -

I bolded your statement because I fail to understand why you took offence to learning something new - if English is indeed a second language for you then you now know the difference and can use either word correctly in the future. "Ich bien ein berliner" if you see what I mean?
"I am a doughnut!" -- Eddie Izzard!!

You seem to be missing the distinction there.
They are no more special, entitled or unique than anyone else in the grand scheme of things but they want to think they are.
Especially when it comes to biology. They like to think they are fundamentally different than everyone else who works hard to diet and exercise properly.
In short, CI:CO doesn't apply to them for whatever excuse they come up with.
They might claim to be eating 1,200 calories each day and burning about 750 calories a day in exercise.
No, really. They are. Yes, they weigh everything... It isn't working because they are special...

Actually, I'm thinking other people have used snowflake. Maybe it just caught my eye, because it's the thing that annoys me. I agree...to disagree.

In terms of metabolism, weight management, and general physiology we're all pretty much alike.
The diet/fitness industry thrives off the misinformation that people are different. This is why you get the reaction here.

Originally JFK in a speech in Berlin - saw Eddie Izzard live a couple of years ago - left halfway through. Not nearly as funny as the youtube vids - but maybe it was an off night.0 -

Journey - What other word do you think is appropriate?
I don't know, I don't have a word for it. I simply call it weight loss maybe? Or weight management if I'm talking long term. In general I just don't call it anything. Again, simple word choice preference for me, doesn't really annoy me.Tone/toned - What other word would you used for a person wanting to not be saggy-baggy? I suppose there's "firm" but why is that somehow less annoying than "tone"?
I know what people mean by toning so it doesn't annoy me, but I think there is a stigma attached to this word which is why it may annoy people more than "firm". Aside from meaning and definition nitpicking, I think it brings to mind pictures of models in magazines with headlines like "tone your arms with these three moves". A weight loss media culture that spreads a lot of misinformation. Maybe that's why the word gets the hate stick? I don't know. It doesn't annoy me, because being misinformed is not a crime and happens all the time as a natural part of learning, and using a different word does not protect someone from being misinformed.
Edit: I think most of these panty twisters are basically things that make people feel frustrated, topics that keep coming up over and over and over causing fatigue.6 -
Starvation mode, or any time someone says "well you know what they say about X" I have a woman at work that says that to me constantly now that I have lost weight... You know what they say about eating fruit, you know know what they say about drinking too much water, you know what they say about eating tuna... ENOUGH already, I get it, you are not losing weight so you are just going to correct me on how I have lost over 60lbs in last 6 months???
None the less I guess I probably say things that irritate people as well... so I just go with the flow and treat everyone with respect, even the annoying ones LOL6 -

My wife and I enjoyed it. We will see him again if we have the opportunity, I'm sure.

It drives me nuts when people correct someone for saying "muscle weighs more than fat", nitpicking semantics... we understood what they meant.
Watch the shocked look on the average person's face when you show them a specific volume of fat and muscle (such as from beef or pork) and then try to guess which weighs more.
The average person cannot correctly answer me when I ask which would hit the ground first if you dropped a bowling ball, a banana, a golf ball and a baseball off of a second story building.
That is, not without a Google search first...
Start educating people to use words properly and they might learn something.
Ignorance of proper diet and exercise requirements are only part of the reason most people are overweight but it is one of the easiest things to correct.
Developing the discipline to do what is necessary for improving one's diet and "fitness" is much harder.
Setting expectations for weight loss, body image, etc. based on facts instead of what they "think" is true and ultimately "want" to be true can go a long way towards preventing early disappointment and disillusionment.
MORE OF THIS^^^^
Its about educating people not correcting them. Most are overweight because they don't have good info. The think they have to live on salads eat clean and suffer to lose weight. That is out of reach for most people.7 -

Just... Look, we all make mistakes. But what is the point of being sapient, social creatures with written and spoken language, if we're not going to communicate and learn from each others' mistakes and resolve to make our own, unique ones? Enough women have spun the "will I get into this dress in time?" wheel and either lost, or 'won' and looked deathly ill on the day.
Can people please stop doing this to themselves? Please?
If you are planning a wedding, look for a design of dress that fits now and could be easily taken in, if necessary. Talk to a seamstress about it. They'll thank you for consulting them before you purchase the damn thing, rather than bringing it in at short notice because it's still too small.
I think we have all been there....I always say I'll lose weight for my bikini and that I'll be my husband's "skinny boat babe".....HA! Who am I kidding LMAO (At least I know I'm being ridiculous)
However, I do agree with you. I was 5 months pregnant when I got married, I had my wedding dress taken out twice for my growing belly, and I can honestly say that I didn't even look pregnant. I had several people ask me where the baby was LoL0 -

I don't disagree with the content of this. I disagree with it being attached to my opinion on something as it is assuming I disagree with all of this. I don't. It is, and will forever be - MY OPINION about being annoyed by something I consider to be nitpicking.
And in spirit of this thread, it's not really fair to attack someone for their opinion. I'm glad you have yours, and I have mine. I always do my best to provide accurate information when posting in help threads. See title of thread.

The only time I "attack" anyone for their opinion is when they behave as if their "opinion" should be given consideration and credibility while it could be demonstrated to be false.
"Being entitled to your opinion" is a logical fallacy. No one is "entitled" to their opinion.
That is another statement that does not mean what most people want to think it means.
This is several years of formal logic and philosophy talking.
But again, it was not my intent to attack your "opinion" here. I was clarifying my stance for why people such as I are particular about saying "muscle weighs more than fat".
Disagreeing with someone is not an overt attack.
If you feel that is somehow attacking you or your opinion then we are simply at an impasse and there is no reason to discuss it further.

Ha! I actually told my doctor I couldn't lose any weight because I'd had my dress altered already and I couldn't afford to do it again! How's that for fat lady rationalization.
Then I gained 15-20 lbs and couldn't breathe in the damn thing.

This. Yes, I know how to read "text speak" but a whole post full of "ur" and "u have 2" makes me want to slap people. I want to tell them typing out the whole word takes more energy and adds to your NEAT.21 -

All good, attack was a bit of an overstatement, but I felt I was being taken out of context and needed to clarify my stance.
I agree with your statements about being entitled to your opinion. Seems a pass for anyone to be a raging *kitten* for no reason, wrong or right. If I thought everyone who disagreed with me was attacking me, I'd probably be in a padded room by now.
