July 2017 Running Challenge

I've been on vacation this past week (back at work today, boo-hiss), so didn't really get much running done because we were out and about doing a lot of sight-seeing. But I was doing plenty of walking. We had a day out in Newport RI, and walked 12 miles. Then there was a day out in Provincetown MA which netted another 14 miles, and finally a couple of days in NYC where we walked 10 miles one day and 12 the next. Tonight's planned 10k run is going to be a breeze after all that. And will bring me to 73 miles (I said I hoped I would do 70, so I'm happy).
Plans for this week are a couple of easy runs and then I've got a 5k race on Saturday.

It's Monday, which means another high-intensity run day. With cooler temps (77F) and a dew point that was right on the cusp of actually being comfortable (65F), it was actually nice to be able to push it a little for 13.5 miles and not feel like a total hot sweaty mess. I managed an average pace of 7:51, and kept my heart rate in Zone 4 (threshold) for 79% of the run (average: 173 bpm). The other HR zones I hit that were measurable was Z3 (aerobic) for 18% of the run, and Z5 (max) for 1% at the end when I gave a final push in the last mile or so, so overall, high-intensity mission accomplished.
And today's mileage means I managed to hit my goal target...earlier in the month I didn't think I was actually going to make it, but stubbornness won in the end.

Last mileage update of the month! Today is a rest day....wait, a rest what?? First one since last Saturday, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty darn excited about it! Lol
Saturday was a slow, short recovery run after Zumba class. Yesterday was another distance PR long run, at 15 miles. It wasn't very fast, but it was my 8th day in a row running, totaling 62 miles (technically, last week was supposed to be 48 miles, but the previous week's long run had gotten pushed to Monday), so I'm quite pleased with the fact I was still able to pull off this run without dying, lol. I even resisted the temptation to do it at my totally flat route (not too hard to resist, since it would have meant 5 boring laps around the lake, lol) and went on an out-and-back route with a few gentle hills (total elevation gain 462 ft, not huge, but not flat). This week will see me, hopefully, breaking the 50 mpw barrier, with a goal of 52 miles, culminating in another distance PR of 16 miles! Bring it!
Also, I haven't missed the August thread somewhere, have I? I checked but didn't see it.7 -
Also! I read but didn't get to respond to all the posts over the weekend. Congrats to all the awesome racers I saw, fantastic job!

I'm sure @Stoshew71 hasn't forgotten about us. If the first rolls around with out a new challenge, one of us will get it.
Say by 4PM central, 9pm GMT today we decide who'll take the posting duty?
Our designated leaders are:
@skippygirlsmom
@shanaber
@_nikkiwolf_
@karllundy
@9voice9
And myself
On hiatus:
@WhatMeRunning
@7lenny7
@kristinegift2 -
@garygse ha ha you are so right on Ikea. Great mileage especially since you don't run every day amazing.
@_nikkiwolf_ I printed the "instructions" out too funny.
Taking a rest day today so I end the month with 61 of 80. I'm okay with that. I considered running 18 miles this morning, ha ha who am I kidding no I didn't ha ha!
Super job to those who are at goal and we'll get it next month to those that are not.

Yeah, and @Stoshew71 usually posts a link in this thread when the new thread is up.0 -

Eagerly awaiting new thread since July went so pear shaped and looking forward to getting back into it.0 -
We went for a holy trip to a mountain shrine and climbed the highest peak on foot which was 6619 ft altitude, not from the root of the mountain though we covered 21 km. It was a wonderful place brimming with natural beauty,forest,mountains,rain &clouds, chirping birds and lots of monkeys!! Even had a helicopter ride over two high peaks. Lots of climbing up and down , walking but no running.
May be if I hadn't eaten that much tasty food and only did the mountain hike on 1300 cal budget I would have dropped a ton! Yet I couldn't have survived then...
The most amazing thing was that even my 7 year old son walked 19 km though we did take some breaks in between the journey. It was a spiritually purifying experience where body was exhausted to the core but our mind and soul were refreshed.
Then back at the hotel the lift broke down and we had to climb the 6 flights of stairs to our room at least thrice for the meals for the rest of vacation. So much for a rest day after mountain climbing!! So I didn't run, not even today after coming back, a much needed rest day.
This sounds amazing @mustb60! Where were you???0 -
Not sure if I'll run today. I'm still in recovery mode from the 13.1 and also I get to see my son for the first time in over a week tonight so that definitely takes priority. If I have time after that, I might sneak in a mile or two.
But for today my July total is 119.2 / 100 miles and my 2017 total is 721.15 / 1,000 miles.
See everyone in August!3 -
Oh for heaven's sake. I typed out a whole post and then I got the dreaded "Your comment will appear after it has been approved" message. So now I have to figure what number caused the filter to go off. Yippee.
ANYWAY, I don't know if I'll run today, because I'm still kind of recovering from the HM, and also I get to see my son tonight for the first time in over a week, so that takes priority. If I have any time after that, I may sneak in a mile or two.
So as of right now, my July total is [one hundred nineteen].2 / 100
And my 2017 total is [seven hundred twenty-one].15 / [one thousand]
Sheesh.
See you all in August!3 -

ETA okay I loaded the pic like y'all said. Nothing opens when I try. okay--- it's too giant to even see now... C'mon MPF!1 -

We were in Vaishno Devi Shrine, Trikuta mountain,Katra, Jammu & Kashmir in India. An experience of life time!7 -
That was based on last week and like I said it was a shallow first - I had an 18 meter lead when sorted by elevation - courtesy of a 16 km run on Misery Mountain doing repeats. I pretty much knew someone would pass me this week considering what my plan was and that I spent 2 full days driving which really destroys a plan.
4uw7l9htq96f.jpg
It doesn't help my stats this week that I paused my Garmin today while changing out Hydration Bladders and forgot to restart it so lost the distance and all the elevation of the 2nd hill.
I manually added back the distance but didn't play with the elevation.
Just curious what app generated this and how do I join?

Strava. We have a Monthly Running Club over there that some of us are part of.
https://www.strava.com/clubs/mfpmnthlychlng
I use RunKeeper to track my runs, but then import into Strava just for the club and other social parts.

Awww, how sweet! But really, I think I'm good. lmao
And oh man! I just noticed I made it onto 2 leaderboards in our Strava group last week! 3rd in distance and 2nd in total time! Kind of a fluke right now, since I had to squish the previous week's long run into last week, but hey, it still counts! Woot!2 -

Pretty good for "not a real runner!"
