I have been eating off my loaf of banana bread since last Wednesday! Nice to start a day with a slab and a cuppa!! Still staying constant in my weight. So no I'll effects from this yummy habit! Haha.
Shopping today, just until the 4th when senior day is, at the grocery store. I have $30 to spend. Paid bills yesterday and have to be lean this month in order to travel to visit sister 4 hrs away, in Boardman OR later this month.
Be happy all! Know at your worst times, there is always someone worse off than you. Think blessed thoughts! Hugs!!

Lanette and Michelle I found out what this bug was. It's a Katydid. And Lanette, we do have lots of fireflies and lots of frogs near the creek. It is amazing to watch and hear all of them in the evening.
Kate and Pip I love the dog pictures and the chicken too. The puppy looks so cuddly! Once I had a Australian shepherd that looked like that. Eddie was his name. I also had 12 Rhode Island Red chickens too. I got 12 eggs every day!
Barbie Thank you for setting up July for us!
My goals for July:
1. Keep logging food
2. Measure food if doubtful of quantity
3. Get more sleep and less napping
4. Work on exercise and regain strength
5. Drink more water
6. Finish projects before starting another!!
7. Pray more and let God!
I have a MRI scheduled for Thursday. After the results I'll know what Dr Rubin says and go forward. Hopefully more injections and no more surgery!!
Katla I'm not claustrophobic. I just imagine the noise is some mod music!
I just add a melody! (They don't have earphones with music like in Austin. Darn!) Dr Rubin has a new machine in their office. The last one I had was at the hospital because they had to put me under because the pain was so awful laying flat in my back. I had started the MRI at Dr Rubin's but had to stop because of it.
In two weeks I have a friend coming for a visit so I need to get busy cleaning house. It's not dirty, just basic cleaning. Guest Bath and dust and vacuum. Voila! Done. Then there's the kitchen table which is like our desk/work table. I need to clean that off. No excuse now, I just paid all the bills for the month.
Have a good day!

Here's some carnations for you!

Thank you Katla and Kate. It's difficult to describe how important my ex DBIL was in my life. I was only 18 when I met him. I am still so sad that no one, including my ex husband, thought to inform me. So many choices and affinities in my life come from him. He was a special person. What a terrible ending. I did write to their address once in a Christmas card, asking to meet up, but got no response.
When we left Hove my DDIL had been sick and had gone to bed. My son had risen from the dead. Max had pleaded to go to bed and DH took him up. So we tidied up and swept around a bit, asked my son if he wanted us to stay (no) and left him in charge of a grumpy, clinging Bea and a well behaved Edie. Only an hour until their bedtime. Horrible! I guess it's Norovirus. We expect to get it on Monday or Tuesday.
I forgot to take my son's birthday presents with me, that I had chosen with great care. Then as we were leaving we saw a parking ticket on the windscreen. I had forgotten to write the car's registration number on our permit. Grrrrrr! If we pay up straight away it will be £25. My fault, so I will pay.
Had delicious chilli when we got in, that I had taken out of the freezer before we left and put in the fridge. Went a bit silly on the alcohol, but I'm not over on the week, so all is well.
Will be over calories, but not by too much, as we could not do our normal exercise regime today. We walked some distance to the grandchildrens' tennis lessons, but no comparison.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx4 -
Here he is in later years, but more or less as I remember him. I owe him so much.

Katla, I avoided asking for an MRI to diagnose the terrible pain I had for months because I was terrified because of claustrophobia. Then I talked to someone whose doctor had given him something to relax him before the MRI. I asked my doctor about that and she ordered two lorazepam 1 mg tablets for me and I was so relaxed and had no trouble. Someone else had to drive me over and back and I took a nap when I got home, but I got through it easily.

Thank God for my DBnL! I had to drive Louis’ truck into town to go grocery shopping. Should have known it wasn’t going to go well when I had to get DH to turn the key over to start the truck. I just don’t have the strength. Got to grocery store and beside my list I bought 3 times that were BOGO and ribs were on sale for $2 and change a lb. And I picked up a sour cream loaf pound cake; got to cashier and had to put the ribs and pound cake back, and still had to write a $17 check. I no longer am embarrassed to pull items out of bags and have her take them off.
Also, paid for the watermelon that didn’t get checked out on Tuesday. The bag lady asked me what I was doing; was I going to pay for it? I told her ‘sure – otherwise I would be stealing it'. She seemed shock that I would even bring it up. Well, I knew when I got to the car, I had not paid for them; but, the cashier (they hire people with disabilities) just apparently did not see them, or I had my bag on top. But, anyway they were not paid for. Watermelon is one thing in the fruit family that Louis does not particularly like because it makes him ‘burp’. So, saw DBnL at the store; he asked if we had let Trey and Jenn take ours when I told him that I needed his help to get it turned over.
I cussed that damn truck up one side and down the other; it’s got over 400,000 miles on it; has had its motor replaced, the transmission replaced, and is held together (seats and such) with ‘duct tape’. The seat rides forward and back whenever you take off or stop and it feels like a tank. Couldn’t get the passenger side open (it’s a 3-door) and can’t pull the back of the driver’s side forward, so the bag boy had to hand me the bags and I put them in the front seat. Had to stop by library because I had the new James Patterson book out and was 9 days late on it because DH read it, and, I had to finish the book I was reading and then read it. I left it running at the library double-parked and came in saying, “I’ve left my truck running with groceries in it, so if anybody wants to steal it, I am sure they’d be bringing it back and PAYING me to take it off their hands.” Yep, it was a bit ‘Loonie Tunes’; but, at that point the only other thing that could have gone wrong is to ‘run out of gas’ (with no phone and Louis never takes his outside on weekends, he never even turns it on).
Carnations are beautiful!
We always forget Emilee’s birthday because she was born on 7/3 and they have always been at the beach with friends. So, I don’t even know what to get her, we’ll just give her money and tell her to ‘buy something that SHE really wants’ … not clothes (unless that is what she wants). She’ll be 11 – that age between being a child and almost a teenager. Eleven and twelve are hard ages to buy for.
This past summer was the first time in YEARS that we’ve had lightening bugs. I can remember as a child, waiting for the sun to start going down and we had 100s and we’d have a jar with holes poked in the top for catching them. Then, we’d take their butts off and smear the lightening bug yellow lights on our faces. What I remember most is how ‘bad’ they smelled. About the closest thing I have seen since are ‘Love Bugs’ that have now come up into Georgia. I think the lightening bugs was a Middle Georgia thing.
Welcome ‘newbies’. Sorry for those who have lost ones they love. Congrats on not going over your eating habits that put the pounds back on. Today I walked on treadmill for 25 minutes, up by 10 – had a radio with earplugs and it made it go faster because I close my eyes and just listen to the music.

Hello July! Hard to believe it is here. Well except for the temperature.
PIp, when did Kirby start letting is hair grow longer. The curtains match your personality. Enjoy.
Blood pressure a little high today. Got up and the usual house habit is that the cats immediately come in and sit on my bed until I turn the sound machine off. I guess I could just go ahead and get up but I want to train Mr Mozart that the day doesn't start until my sound machine is turned off. Melody knows that and is very good about it. MR Mozart is doing pretty good about staying on the bed and not bothering Melody. I have no idea what he does during the night. But this morning was different. After I got up, went to the bathroom and got back on my bed, Melody came but Mr Mozart did not. I went about the usual morning routine, opening drapes, putting out fresh food, sales ing the litter box. But still no kitten. I opened Charlie's closed bedroom door and wasn't there. I even opened every closed off room including the laundry room and looking in the sump pump. I did that because I could hear my girls taking in my head. We lost one of our little pets when they see younger, it looked like a drowned rat in the sump pump. So finally I opened the front door and called his name. And there is my handsome kitten came running from out from underneath the minivan. We guess when Charlie came in last night from Karaoke, he went out. He doesn't look like he got into any spats with animals, was very hungry and wanted t use the litter box. His paws are really dirty like he was sitting on an oily driveway.
I know in my heart I should let this affect my decision to have him front declawed. And I also have done much research on the process of declawing. MIchelle is about the biggest animal advocate I know and has told me all about it. But the vet said there are some circumstances to consider when declawing. The main one is the health of the owners. You should see Charlie's arms and legs where he has scratched him. Mine aren't as bad but he has done a job. My dermatologist says that every time I have a cat scratch is a potential place for psoriasis. I will be going off of my blood thinner next month but Charlie's is forever. His nail caps are not working. He just scratches until they come off. I have tried taking him to the scratching post immediately when I see him scratching the furniture. My spray bottle does not stop it either. The vet that my vets office uses has a very tiny incision and then does a laser treatment the following morning to help with healing. We will be using a special litter after it is done.

Barbie: Thank you for the inspiring quote to start the July thread. A ‘clean slate’ is exactly the mindset I need as I can’t even find what resolutions I posted for June. I did lose .5 pounds, my monthly average, but I roller coaster up and down the scale every single week.
I’m looking forward to this month. NO TRAVEL scheduled, which is just fine by me. I’m working my way through the audiobook version of ‘Better Next Year for Women’ and really enjoying all that summer has to offer: warm weather, pool open, farmers markets, long days and my little herb garden. DH continues to have occasional cognition issues, but has agreed to see my Osteopath and get a full physical, his first since going into the military 50+ years ago. I have a hunch that he may have sleep apnea, which would explain a lot.
There is drama at work, but there is always drama at work. I’ve decided to hang in for at least another 2.5 years, or until they buy me out. Retirement can’t get here soon enough. Our condo in Honolulu will go on the market any day, and just the prospect of seeing that sold to someone who will make it their lovely home lifts my heart tremendously. Should be a fast second half of the year.
Life is good. Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Pip ... I love your hair short! Very sassy! Kirby looks good too!
Heather ... sorry for your loss ... hope you and DH are able to avoid the bug.
Rori ... until you said it, I didn't think in terms of the year being half over! Where does time go?
Husband and son gave up on the tree stump planter for this year ... my plants were getting too droopy, so I potted them and put them on top of the stump. I suspect that the partially hollowed out stump will rot this winter somewhat. Might make it easier to dig out next year.
I've been working on a menu plan for the week. Still trying to eat out of our freezer, but we're getting down to things that I don't care for ... like venison. I used to eat venison with no problem, but I've been put off by it lately. And I'm just bored with cooking. I tried making several new things in the last couple of weeks, and everyone just turned up their noses ... babies.
Did not get much done today... ... but did pay attention to my food choices!

well I am sitting just cruising the internet,Tom went out to eat on his own, and decided not to go to the concert,, only reason being because I am home, and felt guilty going with Elena, and he is still denying anything is going on.. thats ok with me, but the evidence at the lawyers proves otherwise.. will just wait until all things come out..
I am very peaceful with my decision to tell him I know, he can deny all he wants but now he knows I know..I might actually be able to have a decent nights sleep tonight..6 -
Hello all.
Having a great Canada Day so far. We had a 10km walk to see some of the festivities then came home, had a bite to eat a went to one of the stores that was selling all their plants for 50% off. Spent about $15.00 and had fun.
I must confess I was down this morning as I had posted yesterday that I thought I had maintained my weight this month but when I went and checked my stats from the start of the month I had actually gained so I was pretty upset. BUT I decided this is the start of a new month I have found all you lovely ladies on this board so I am optimistic about how things will go.
Goals for this month:
Line dance but also do more exercise. (Walking and doing some of the videos on YouTube)
Log everything I put in my mouth. (I'm bad for omitting meals)
Wish me luck!
Jenn

Hi Everyone.
Just introducing myself. Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canucks!
I have been going to a weight loss clinic that my Doctor recommended. I see the clinics weight loss Doctor and the the clinics Dietitian once a month. Been losing about a pound a week. I track meals and snacks through myfitnesspal and then go over the month with my Dietitian. She says I am eating exactly what she eats, so I think I am on the right track. My goal is to have a slow and steady sustainable permanent lifestyle change and stay away from the fad diets.
Happy 150th Canada! We live in a great country, there is no where else I would rather call home!8 -

Drkatiebug … You asked about carrageenan a while back. I did a lot of reading about this when we were looking for migraine triggers for my son. Carrageenan had nothing to do with his headaches, btw.
Carrageenan is a food additive that is extracted form red edible seaweeds and is used for gelling, thickening and stabilizing food. When you purchase heavy cream … you’ll see pasteurized and ultra-pasteurized. Check the expiration dates… pasteurized is usually only good for a few days but the ultra-pasteurized is good for weeks. How is that possible with a fresh food product? Carrageenan is found in everything from baby formula (although it’s been banned outside of the US by the WHO) to ice cream and is very prevalent in almond and soy milk.
The controversy and misinformation comes from understanding degraded carrageenan and undegraded carrageenan. The International Agency for Research on Cancer in 1982 determined that degraded carrageenan (also known as poligeenan) is carcinogenic to humans. Undegraded carrageenan, however, is considered food safe. Here’s the kicker …both come from the same seaweed … the difference is whether it’s processed in an acidic or alkaline procedure … and the difference is literally just a few degrees of ph.
Degraded carrageenan is well known for its inflammatory properties and is commonly used in drug trials to induce inflammation and other diseases in lab animals. But even the undegraded … or food-grade carrageenan … has shown to cause gastrointestinal inflammation and higher rates of intestinal lesions and ulcers in some animal studies. While most of the studies have been in a petri dish, it makes you pause.
Obviously, there’s a lot of hype and scare tactics about food additives. But I think it’s telling that many legitimate medical sources are suggesting that while small amounts of carrageenan are “probably” ok, we should still make a point of avoiding it when we can. So I do.
Personally, carrageenan in food causes me stomach grief. I’ve experimented with this a bit. Ice-cream, for example. Nearly every brand of ice-cream uses carrageenan and depending on how cheap it is you can almost taste it … it’s a mouth feel … sometimes gummy tasting to me. But there are some high-end, all-natural brands that don’t use it. If I eat the ice cream with carrageenan … sick all night with stomach cramps. The all natural without the additive … no problem at all … except for the extra calories that find their way to my hips!
Wow! Almost as long as one of Lenora’s! LOL!

10000 steps per day
30+ minutes of exercise per day
Stay in calorie range per day
