~ Karen - I completely understand your pain with your grandson's situation...my daughter is clinically "depressed" and diagnosed with bipolar disorder (which I believe is inaccurate, but I'm not an expert). She does take medication, and it does help. Unfortunately, she married a man with bipolar disorder, severe depression that makes Eeyore look like Richard Simmons most of the time, and he has recently been diagnosed with Aspbergers Syndrome. Then there's my grandson...who is now 7yrs old...diagnosed with Autism at 2yrs old...FORTUNATELY my daughter was very proactive and has got all three of them in regular therapy and specialized therapy for my grandson who is classified in the spectrum as High Functioning. He's brilliant, but has behavioral issues. They're managed quite well with lots of therapy - weekly - and fantastic teachers and facilitators at his school. My biggest concern is puberty for him because that is when both his parents were truly in crisis and stayed that way until early 20's when they met. There IS light at the end of the tunnel for your grandson...stay diligent and faithful...be there for his parents, it truly helps when everyone is supportive! Even when it really hurts the worst!
~ Heather - what a beautiful couple you make, and I absolutely ADORE your dress!
~ Menopausal Ladies - I'm most recently suffering slightly more with mini flashes as I call them...I had my full hysterectomy 11yrs ago, and did HRT for 6 mo's post op then went with herbal for a few years until I weaned myself off of that too...so for approx. 9 years I haven't had any symptoms, mood swings, or any typical menopause issues so many people suffer from. I'm one of the blessed ones! I'm concerned about the mini flashes sometimes, but they're not severe enough to seek advice yet. I feel badly for all of you who suffer. I watch my Mom and say a prayer of gratitude whenever I hear her complain, or note her mood swings, etc.
Today has been really busy at work. So busy in fact I didn't get my breakfast in, only coffee. Didn't give myself an excuse to overeat at lunch tho...still focused!! I heard from a very fit co-worker however that missing a meal isn't always a good thing. So, I upped my protein (his recommendation) for lunch, and grabbed some raw almonds for a snack shortly...
Also, I'm very happy to report I found the pedometer app on my phone, and as of 1pm have 2412 steps in...I'm a firm believer that MFP really DOES work since I'm somehow more aware and constantly checking my calories and sodium counts and inputting all my water intake too...just wish I'd find a way to change the app from minutes walked to steps walked instead. Maybe there's another app to convert the steps to minutes somewhere! Or, maybe I'll become a millionaire for thinking of it first! LOL! Highly doubtful, but one can dream!
Started a new college course yesterday, this one advanced industrial hygiene. In case I haven't mentioned, I'm a safety professional by trade. My education past high school didn't start again for me until 2012 when I realized my experience alone wasn't going to keep me employed. I went back to school online, and have completed an AS in Business Administration, a BS in Occupational Safety and Health, and am currently working on my MS in Occupational Safety and Health/Environmental Management. All of these from the same college of Columbia Southern University. I'll graduate hopefully in early 2019 with my Masters. I have to say that only the math courses for my prior degrees really made me work for passing grades. Started off my masters great too, had a 4.0 for several terms until my last course, which was masters level safety engineering. The professor, full time faculty for the college, was very strict in his grading rubric, and I barely squeaked out a "B" grade overall. I got lots of extra help and feedback from him, but didn't get an "A" on anything but the weekly discussion boards - which thankfully kept me from having to retake the course and pay more tuition, etc. I'm mentioning it because sometimes I get really busy with work and college, and forget to focus on DORRIE. My health and mental wellbeing suffer - so, I'm making that aware also. Is anyone else a late bloomer, over 50, and in college too?
I've gotta get back to work - enjoy your afternoon/evening/morning wherever you are in the world!!
Much love and respect from Vegas,
Dorrie aka TrulyDivyn5 -
How many of us have Eyore for husbands???? I think he IS EYORE!
My youngest brother had two sons and they both have so many of the alphabet mental illnesses. ADD! ADDHD ODD OCD plus bipolar. Why and how can children be born with all of that. The older of the two sons is now a fairly mature man, is an EMT paramedic. His only mental problem right now is his sexual addiction to this trailer trash of a woman who keeps popping out babies. Some are his, some aren't. But he is just like his Mom and loves every one of them and has given 4 babies his name. There is one of the children he knows is his. They have lived together long enough in Alabama that they are legally married and therefore he has to divorce her to dissolve the relationship. Neither of them have the money so sometimes they live together and fit terribly and sometimes they live apart. They children have seen so much and I don't know what kind of a role model of a mother or father they will carry on into their adult life. Hopefully it will be my brother and SIL. But both of the boys when they were children attempted suicide when the were young. And both have spent many a day in a children's psychiatric hospital.
Well a friedm of mine says that since we have a 60% chance of rain today that it WILL rain. I don't think so. So far there is no evidence of it.
I agree, where is Penny???? Sure miss her wisdom, humor and pictures. I also miss Sylvia, and the lady who had cats, lived in a Victorian house and adopted her nieces or was it grand children. Anyway, there have been many good friends through the years here that have left. I know anytime there is a Joyce that comes here that she doesn't stay. I guess I scare them all off!

DJ, well I saw it on a Facebook page called ' Linnies Place', its a group site that has a lot of down home recipes, beautiful pics, and old fashioned knowhow stories. I also belong to a group there called ' Older Than Dirt', which is like this group but not as healthy!!!

Tere, yep its nice to split up a large steak to make multiple meals!
Today I mailed off a mint in box toy of my sons he wasn't interested in keeping. I rec'd a postal money order for $30, so then with buying bubble wrap and a box, it came to $15 that I profited! I promptly gave to my husband and he used $12 to fill up the car! The flow of money..2 -
So, DH birthday is this weekend and we have two special Chicago stuffed pepperoni pizzas arriving FedEx tonight frozen. He is so excited- this is a treat we order only approx twice a year. Lol, yes we get our pizza delivered to Texas all the way from Chicago! We plan to cook one tonight and I'm praying for The self-control to only eat one piece. I already entered that one piece into MFP so I had better not eat more than that! That will be hard, but at least it's not my favorite the spinach pizza.
This weekend one of our nieces is coming to town as well. She is 12 years old and as sweet as can be! I have to think of something special for all of us (DH, niece and MIL) to do. Unfortunately it is way too hot here right now to plan any outdoor activities. MIL's rehab is going well, I'll go with her again tomorrow.
I'll sign off now, I need to call my brother because today is his actual birthday. This is a hard time, because my father who lives with him, is currently in rehab facility. All this rehab activity in the older generation has me doubling down on my determination to continue strength training. I'm proud of myself, I did three sessions this week.

2. Fiber 30g
3. Vegetables - big salad daily
4. Track/complete entry daily

• I'm getting more fiber on a regular basis. I want to have a clean colonoscopy in February next year.
• I'll be age 60 on Aug 22nd. I did not want to be fat and forty... fifty... sixty... I don't usually put "pounds loss" numbers on my monthly goals - but I will aim for 10 pounds loss this month. I'll be seeing my doctor in September and would like to have a good loss.

Lisa in w Tx. We all manage the best we can with kids leaving and transitioning from us. I have to resign to the fact that how I relate with my sons is just a lifelong series of hellos and goodbyes. Its what we do in between, to always let them know we support them and will offer advice. The best gift we can give our children is to raise them, then let them go.

I had oral surgery yesterday to insert 2 implants for teeth. So... no foods, slept most of the day, dropped 3 lbs. No pain and not hungry. Sipping coffee. Had my Metamucil. Not sure what I'll eat later. Maybe some quick homemade vegetable soup. Frozen veggies cooked in broth. Maybe a protein shake.
Hope you all are having a good day and week. I'm going to catch up reading posts here.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening my dear Friends,
M, sorry to hear about your condition, (MTHFR). It’s great that you know all that is necessary to keep it under control. As serious as it sounds I will admit I did laugh when I saw the abbreviation because it reminds me of an abbreviation for something else. *Yes, I’m bad.*
Virginia, I always like to have things clean and neat when I have a repairman scheduled, but the truth is they don’t really care. I assure you they have seen things that you might not even imagine. Glad the toe isn’t broken. Always remember when you go someplace like IHop that they will often fix something not even on the menu. I often ask for a grilled chicken breast and green veggie and restaurants are able to accommodate. Never hurts to ask.
Michele, I think you will get a good view of the eclipse from where you live. According to the map online, the very best view of the fullest coverage will be around Charleston but much of the south East will have a great view. Just drive carefully on your way home. Here is a great interactive map for those that are interested. https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2017/7/25/16019892/solar-eclipse-2017-interactive-map
Dorrie, don’t worry about trying to get everyone sorted out. As soon as you learn it, it will change. Lol You will get very clear on a few and not so much on others. We don’t let it bother us if someone responds to the wrong person. Just keep reading and posting and enjoy the ride.
Tere, so sorry that your asthma is giving you such fits. I sure hope it improves soon!
KarenVA, how scary for an 11 year old to be thinking of suicide. My prayers are with you all.
Janetr, so happy to see you post. I was beginning to worry about you. I’m sure you have something to tell us about but we will wait until you are ready. Sending love your way. (((((Hugs)))))
Bianca, that was terrible to see that mother treating her daughter like that. I don’t even know what I would do.
Heather, your dress is beautiful. I know you will have a great time!!!
Allie, so glad the fridge is fixed.
Rye, have fun with your niece at whatever inside activity you decide on. I know you don’t want outside in the heat.
It has rained on and off all day today. It’s raining pretty hard right now. It’s been a nice anniversary but we decided not to go out today and wait until the worst of the tourist season is over. That is normally once school starts. The restaurants are just so crowded. I just can’t believe I’m old enough to have been married for 49 years. I remember when that just sounded ancient.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I want to thank you all, my cyber sisters, for the well wishes for my DD. She is doing fine and all the scrapes are scabbed up and healing nicely. It’s amazing how your words can touch our hearts and that we truly feel each other’s caring and love. You are all the absolute best and I just want you to know how much I truly love you!
Sending love, good thoughts and cool sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

~ Becca - OMG thank you!!!!!!! I've missed the coast so much! I grew up in Medford, but we had a home in Brookings too, and the old family homesteads in Yoncalla and Eugene are still very much occupied by family as well as representatives in Jackson and Josephine Counties...I have a LOT of family/friends/relatives there...I try to get home annually, but it's not always the case. I was in Medford for my 35th HS reunion last year, and family reunion right after that in Ft Jones/Etna/Callahan area across the border...I was soooo happy to see those photos! Made my afternoon!
Some time, you're going to have to show me how to share photos too. When I get home tonight, I have to take my DSIL (which I think stands for dear Son in Law?) to Bullhead City to purchase something important to him...my grandson and my son will probably road dog it with us. For those wondering where that is, Bullhead City AZ is on the NV/AZ border across the river from Laughlin NV - both about half an hour north of Needles CA. Usually, and typically it's 10 degrees warmer there than in Vegas...go figure! Why am I driving you ask? Forgot to mention my DSIL is also epileptic and cannot drive at night. He's an excellent navigator tho!
I haven't mentioned my son yet - he's 25yrs old and has not given me a grandchild yet. I'm secretly grateful for that because he's not ready to be a father yet. I predict that will change in the next 3 to 5 years. He's got a plan, the 2yr and 5yr plan. 2yr plan is to buy a house and finish college, not in any certain order. He will then feel as if he is prepared for a child in his life both financially and emotionally. He's going to be an excellent Daddy when he is one!
I'm trying to attach a photo of my grandson - let me know if it comes through! Last year's 1st day of school - he had no front teeth...now he has front teeth, but others are missing...LOL...I'm very biased by my gorgeous handsome handful of a grandchild!!4 -
Cute pic, Dorrie! You attached it fine, but if you wish to post it " opened" then click on the landscape in a box option, ( next to the camera box above where you type). I have oogles of pics I've gathered here and there! Katla is another Oregonian up off the Columbia River inlet some. She is awesome!

Rye, On Thursdays my line dance class meets right before BINGO so the players start arriving while we are still dancing. So many of them are mobility challenged and seeing them helps me redouble my commitment to walk, dance, lift, and do other exercise as well as eat right. I want to do everything I can to maintain my health and mobility.
Heather, you and your husband look fabulous. I hope you have a perfect cruise and enjoy every minute of it.
DJ, happy anniversary.

Today however I saw something that has upset me deeply and I need advice on how to mentallys deal with it.
I was picking up my twin boys from school. While waiting in the car another car pulled up next to me. The mom got out and a while later returned with her approx. 10 yr old daughter. Once inside the car, the mom started screaming at the child and started hitting her. The child tried to duck but the mom just kept on hitting her. Before I could get out to stop her she drove off still carrying on hitting her.
I've never seen or experienced physical abuse.I'm just so terribly horrified by what I saw.
I have never seen the child before, just so sad for this poor child.
Love
Bianca from South Africa
Keep an eye on the situation and start documenting it. You might also try to find out what class the girl is in, and have a chat with her teacher about what you saw. The teacher may have noticed some "red flags" as well.

Did 1 hr of incline intervals (2 min 4mph 3%, 6%, 9%, 12%, 3%etc). The plan for tomorrow is to do a Gay Gasper Training DVD. Don't remember what that one is like.
Oh, I just realized that I downloaded the DVD Jeanette Jenkins 21 Day Total Body Circuit. If anyone wants it, just PM me, I'd be glad to send it to you. It didn't cost me anything, so I wouldn't charge you anything.
Today has been one of those days. Usually by now I have at least glanced at the newspaper. I haven't even had time for that much. Went and exercised, took my "wash off the sweat" shower, then went to see the gal who is altering my dress to get a swatch of the material. Then go to Food Lion for one item since it was on sale, I had a coupon, and the store by me doesn't have any, then on to Statesville.
I don't remember if I told you the saga. We got these beads for me to make wine charms for Denise's shower favor. When we got home the gal who was working with me said "oh, no, we need to make a set of 4 for each bag!" Yikes, that means 96 charms. Well, Vince went back to Michael's but they didn't have any more beads (when we were there there were a few more cards). Anyway, they called Moorseville store who had them and was going to ship them to Hickory. So I wait...and wait....and wait. Finally, after calling Hickory and just getting a "I'll call the Mooresville store", I called their corporate headquarters. It seems that Moorseville sent them to the Statesville store. So I drove over there since I didn't trust them to send them to the Hickory store. Takes me 1/2 hr there and 1/2 hr back. But I got the beads.
Came home and went in the pool, needed to just unwind. Came in, got dinner ready, I was supposed to go to ACMoore about needlework, but by the time I could get there, it would be over so I didn't bother. I'll probably work on some of the charms tonight.
Dorrie - take it from someone who has been here a while, you'll NEVER know everyone. By the time you know someone somewhat, they take a break. New people come in all the time.
DJ - Vince's mother had some dimentia. I got very good at the "is that a fact" and "tell me more about it", even tho I'd heard the same story 50 times already
Tere - I don't go on 95. I take 40 to 77 to 81 to 66. Not sure what roads from VA to PA, tho. Guess I'll find out. Thank goodness for the GPS!
I want to get the freezer as empty as possible, so for now I'm not making any pops (although I'd love some because they're so low in calories and pretty good for you). For those who don't know, you take a 32oz container of unflavored yogurt (I've found Greek yogurt to be good), a 21oz can of OJ concentrate. Thaw the concentrate but don't reconstitute it. Mix the two together and pour into an ice pop mold. I can usually make about 20 pops from each batch. Each pop is about 57 calories (according to MFP). Not bad and very cooling. Plus, no added sugar, no preservatives, etc.
Karen in VA - do even new eggs turn out easy to peel in the IP? Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the saying "the hearse doesn't stop at the bank". How very sad about your grandson! It's good tho that he's in the hosp where he can get professional help
tere - there's a lady in the water aerobics class who uses the locker room that I use because there aren't a lot of people in there and she doesn't have to worry about perfume. My daughter has a sever allergy to coconut, if it's in the air she can't breathe. I've witnessed that and is it ever scary!
Lisa - I, too, keep my "go to" bag with all toiletries, a phone charger, etc. and I refill things as needed before I need them. Would it be possible to take 1/2 of the contrave tablet so that you hopefully won't have a reaction? Let's hope it's a reaction to the combination with the Chantix.
Have two questions for anyone - for one thing, I'd like to somehow designate that 4 of the shower favors are for the attendants and Denise. Any ideas how I can make it so that no one takes 4 bags.
Another thing - Jess wants to make the cake that looks like a doll. Well, I have two dolls that can go in the cake. I'm thinking that using a piece of tule might make a good wedding veil for the one doll. But how to attach it to a plastic head with "hair"?
Bianca - wonder what would have happened if you had called the police? Did you happen to notice if she's wearing long sleeves in summertime (not sure what your weather is like)
Heather - you and dh look so elegant! Have a great time
Penny, Penny, oh were art thou Penny?
Ginger - heal quickly
DJ - thanks for the link about the eclipse. Happy anniversary. Very sunny here

Hello Mighty Mamas!
I have been super busy and still have no internet at home! I just barely had time to keep up with you guys, today!
**************************
Katla – I love soup any time! When it’s HOT for half the year – you just use the AC and move on... And that soup was delicious! I ate mine like tortilla soup –with some cheese and avocado.
Meg – LOL – It really was good. Not low fat – not low cal – but really, really good. Hope your co-worker is ok.
Karen/VA – Oh Sugar, I am so sorry for your GS. I hope he can find that “thing” that he can focus on that will allow him to enjoy life.
Tere – If I am every feeling particularly masochistic, I only have to walk thru a perfume section of a department store to induce a throbbing headache. I feel your pain.
Lisa – Thanks, Sugar! I am thinking good thoughts for you and the ciggies. It took me YEARS to quit – and I wasn’t really, seriously addicted. Sorry the Contrave is so hard on you. I hope it IS just the Chantrix. I totally understand needing some assistance in the weight loss plan.
Janet – So good to see your smiling face, Sweetie. Hope you will at least give us a heart now and then to let us know you are ok.
****************************
Have to run! But, so far, I am doing ok on my weekly goals. Because I have spent my mornings trying to fix my internet issues, I will probably not make the strength training... *sigh* Oh well.
Goals for August 1-5
Under Calorie Budget 4x OOXX
Strength Training/Abs 2x OO
Planks 2x OX
Hugs for Everybody!

Thanks Everybody. Looks like Griff will be in the hospital for 5-7 days. I'll keep you posted.
Michele Older eggs work better, but in the IP even fresh eggs are relatively easy to peel. I believe it is because they are actually steamed rather than hard-boiled.
Karen in Virginia2 -
Becca: I love the photos from the Oregon Coast! Your three sons photo is a real gem, too. Thank you so much for calling me awesome! Aw, shucks.
We sat out on the deck for a little while but slipped right back into our cool house. The smoke concentration in the air seems a little bit lighter than it was earlier in the day. I hope this turns into a trend. According to my weather app, it reached 104 today & will cool to 64 tonight, then go back up to a high of 94 tomorrow. I'll take it happily. Cooler weather is welcome. Less smoke in the air would also be very nice.

Michele, I sure am glad my daughters had simple weddings and their husbands mOms just didn't want to have to do anything but arrive. Could you put those favors in a pretty decorated basket or box that is labeled in her colors for the attendants?
I have a cousin that lives in Seattle that takes the most beautiful serene pictures of most
Y lighthouses, oceans, whale watching, just nature. But most of them have an inspirational verse from the Binle attached to it. My uncle was also a Baptist preacher! I don't know if she would mind me sharing any of them or not. I know I am going to take at least one and frame it for my sister for her birthday. But she has given permission for that.
Well our local weatherman on NBC that we trust so much and told us about showers tonight and it never rained. Then he talked about them coming about 2 AM but now he is saying that he isn't seeing them n Illinois yet. So I am glad I listened to my own self and watered my flowers. I need to make a map of the garden and make a way so that I, or Michelle knows how to prune and get them ready for the winter.
Allie, keep thinking about you. Is some one going with you to court next week?
