Have you looked into different knee braces? I have no acl in my right knee, and having the right brace made all the difference. They make ones with jointed metal supports which are really protective, but mine just has the flexible side supports. I can definitely belly dance and do yoga.
My thing right now is wanting to do a pull up or chin up. I started out not even being able to dead hang, and I can dead hang for 15 leg lifts now. I'm working on shoulder shrugs, negatives, and pull downs. My negatives have really gotten better since I started, before it was more of a fall than a negative, now it's at least a controlled drop!0 -
Push ups and lunges.0

Box Jumps2

pushups pullups and chinups and i'm working towards all of them.0

I'm finding the mix of answers on this thread fascinating: Things people can't do because of an injury or analogous hard physical limitation; things people can't do because those things make them feel bad/foolish; things people can't do but are working diligently to do by building up a foundation starting several steps back; and more.
"Can't" is a more interesting word than I would have thought.8 -
I should amend my answer as to why I can't do push ups and lunges.
I can't do pushups because I'm not strong enough. I also don't seem to make good progress at developing strength. I continue to work on it, but I don't see improvements much in the way of strength gains in upper body department at all after 3 years of weight training. It's really pathetic. Lower body? I've been able to add weight, but progress is slow.
I can't do lunges to any reasonable depth because of knee and hip issues. And my balance isn't the best either.1 -
Anything that requires balance and/or coordination - dancing, skiing, surfing, etc. I wish I could, however, I don't want to die of terminal klutziness.3
-
I'm 2013 I could do 3 bar muscle ups. Now I can even do a pull up. I'm working on it.0
-
Handstand. I need to find consistency with practicing balancing. Also, I need to learn to roll out to so I don't hurt myself.0
-
I would love to lift heavy weights. I have titanium rods fused to my spine and I have been told absolutely not by 2 surgeons.1
-
Box jumps. Box steps up with a tall box come with ease. But something about the signal from my brain to the legs go haywire on jumps. My mind says jump..the legs say ummmmm NO.5

Have a slipped disc in lower back/sciatica in hip. I'm not a fast or long distance runner but 2 months off because of pain is a bummer!! Getting old sucks ☹️

I have balance and coordination issues. I'm trying to master a deep abs jackknife off a stability ball at the moment. I can do the 'modified' version, where I'm resting my knees on the ball in the initial plank position, but not the 'real' one when I'm balancing on my shins. Working on it.1

I haven't had the money to look into one. I'm hoping once I get hired permanently, that will change. In the mean time I do beginners yoga or senior yoga since its more knee friendly or I just walk as long as the weather is fairly cooperative.0 -
Rotator cuff injury (severity TBD) prevents overhead press and bench press. I will layoff through August and do dumbell curls and tricep extensions until it heals. Any suggestions for chest or back exercises without pushing or overhead lifts would be appreciated.0

I love powerlifting. Squatting and deadlifting especially. I have a bulging disk though currently and can't train that way anymore. I was REALLY sad for a long time. Now I'm just trying to enjoy what I can do.2

Real sit ups -- thanks to three c-sections.
Evidently, I also can't rock on my back until I can sit upright on my butt. Discovered that in yoga this afternoon. Felt as flexible as a rock. Thanks c-sections again, I assume.
Cross country skiing -- tried it for the first time this winter. Took a lesson. Went out three different days. Never got better. I get really annoyed when I hear or read people claim that "it's just like walking." I walk just fine, thank you, without falling on my *kitten* or my face every ten steps. But I'm not giving up. My 16 year old loves it and won't do it without me. Can I blame this on multiple c-sections too? No?1 -
Pull ups - it's on my bucket list to do unassisted pull ups. I also have a weak core and can't sit up from a starting position on my back - only if someone stands on my feet can't get the momentum to get myself up.0

Running. I assume it's either from the bad arthritis my family has, or just my size. But my knees cannot take running or they ache in the most painful ways where I don't even want to get up from bed. I tried it once for about two weeks, tried upping my jogging a few minutes or two, and starting my third week I just couldn't even because my knees ached so badly didn't try again, because that pain is not fun at all!1

For one, I think you should find a different XC instructor, or at least reference group. Done well, it's really not very much at all like walking!
And 3 days? Yup, keep going - I like your attitude. I've been rowing for 15 years now (started at 46), multiple times a week, and I'm still chipping away at doing it right.
One of my coaches paraphrased an old platitude: "Every day, in every way, my rowing s*cks just a tiny bit less."
Edited: typo.2 -
I wish I could run because it's a highly portable exercise modality...I gave it up though because every time I ran my plantar fasciitis and posterior tibial tendinitis would flare up and then I'd be sidelined for a week or more at a time.0
-
Never been able to do pull ups/chin ups or even monkey bars as a kid (not sure if they're called that anywhere else but the UK) would love to eventually do the former and then run into a playground push all the kids out of the way and do the latter!
(until I'm unceremoniously dragged away by angry parents/police whilst laughing triumphantly) ;D6 -
Fortunately, there's nothing that I want to do that I can't do but there are a lot of things that I can do that I'd like to be able to do better.0
-
Can't because the doctor said no to: Long distance running--I was running half marathons but after a knee injury (ACL tear/repair) my surgeon says there is too much arthritis in my knees to put in that kind of mileage.
Can't because I'm lacking strength/flexibility: Some advanced yoga asanas--Eka Pada Koundinyasana I, Tittibhasana, Svarga Dvijasana--I still don't quite have the core/hip strength or flexibility to master them, but I'm working on it!
Can't because I look funny doing it? Nothing--have kind of stopped caring what others think in that respect.0 -
so many but It is an epic fail if I try that box jump!1

Thanks for the encouragement. I will keep at it. I want to enjoy it -- I certainly enjoy being out in the snow. My teenager asked me this weekend (in the midst of a heatwave) when snow will return in the mountains. "Too soon, my son," I wanted to say, but I actually said, "Oh, it won't be long -- November, December-ish."1 -
Unassisted chin up/pull up0
-
I broke my wrist when I was younger and never had it set. Handstand walks will never happen for me, free standing handstands seem highly unlikely. I also have difficulty with cleans and having a barbell in the front rack position.
Otherwise I've adapted pretty well. Things like overhead pressing are never going to be as strong as they could be.1 -

Me too. Working up to them with the assisted machine, but it's going to take a while. Pull-ups were always a problem for me.0
