If you stay in a deficit you will lose body fat no matter what type of food you eat. Science! Go figure.11

A short term diet works for short term. Weight management is a lifetime commitment. It's changing bad habits and choices. I am glad you lost weight. That's the main goal here. What ever works for you is what you want.4

Naw I'm good thanks.. I love my pasta too much9

Glad you found what works for you. For me, that level of fat would have my gall bladder crawl out of my body and slap me upside the head.10

A lot of people have the wrong idea about keto. First the keto diet is not about being in a calorie deficit to lose weight. And the keto diet is not a short term diet that is not maintainable. A person can go keto for as long as they want. Keto is about reprogramming your body to burn fat for energy instead of carbs.22

Thank you for sharing that.

A lot of people need to remember to be nice to others that are having a positive moment about something that works for them! Why do we need to say remarks like "it didn't work for me" or "no I'm good". Let's cheer each other on and show support instead of shuning someone's happiness. Things work differently for people, what works for one may not work for the next person but that doesn't mean it's bad or doesn't work period.
Congrats @bazookajoe123 on your success!! Feel free to add me for support28 -
Each persons is physiologically different.
Every dietary program is different and wil suit different people.
Sometimes we need to try different approaches to find the right 'fit'.
I believe Keto, along with low carb, high protein and Vegetarean (for which I am), all have their benefits.
It takes time and research on this journey to work out what we need to do and how we need to do it.
And yes. In this forum, it is important to support, respect and come together as a MFP family, because quite frankly, who else but us, would understand how tough this road can be.
Congratulations Joe. You are doing great.
Keep up the enthusiasm
Keep putting that one foot in front of the other.
Well done!7 -

If you want to lose body fat, be in a calorie deficit - if keto helps you do that, great! People losing weight/fat should do whatever helps them stay consistent. I'll dispute the "lots of good food" though - I like eating lots, and my "lots" was definitely restricted (both volume and variety) when I did keto.5 -

Because he specifically recommended others do it?10 -
Keto is great! I would highly recommend it to people who have a lot of body fat percentage to lose and can't lay off the carbs or sugar. But almost everyone I know on Keto does count their macros which is essentially counting calories (grams have calories duh). You might be doing CICO without even noticing it. As for myself, I'm petite and most of my calories would be nonexistent on keto. But glad to hear it worked for you. I hope more people commit to a lifestyle change for the better.4

I get what he said. I also get that he was more than likely recommending it to people who haven't tried it yet.
That being said, I'm all for insight and reading about how things have worked for others because everyone's different. I'm just reminding everyone to refrain from being snarky or mean in responses as much as possible. And I'm not talking about just this thread in particular but the majority of keto posts I see made, there's a lot of negative comments in reference to keto or ones choice to do it.
Just a girl wanting to see more kindness.10 -

So are you trying to tell me that the keto diet breaks the known laws of thermodynamics and allows one to lose while in a caloric surplus? You might wanna take your discovery to some scientists. They should probably hear about this since they think you cannot change the laws of physics.
Or did I just misunderstand what you were trying to say?5 -
You know, I've yet to see a single post on these boards where a person said, "I managed to hit a milestone and I feel great my simply measuring my calories in vs my calories out" and immediately having 20 people jump on them to say, "OMG that's rubbish, you have to do Keto". Yet the opposite happens at least 20 times a day.
Glad Keto is working for ya bud, it works well for many, many people6 -
Hey Joe!
A ketogenic (non medical) diet works really well for me. I am losing weight but the biggest change has been ditching the feeling I am walking through a thick fog day after day. I feel like I have energy for the first time in a decade. The fact I can also have food that is commonly thought of as not being good on a diet (butter, red meat, cream) mean I have no temptation to stray from the eating plan. I feel like I have finally found something that works for me. Congrats on finding the same for yourself4 -
It's not "my CICO pal" either, nor is it, "My Skinny Pal" There are many different ways many people use here to achieve their individual goals, yet it seems the only ones who bash anything outside their way of thinking is the CICO gang3

I've been told be many ketovangelists on these boards that I'm doing it wrong, that my side effects on keto didn't exist, that I must be lying (note: I have nothing against most keto dieters, just those who insist it's the only or the best way for everyone). I've had clean eaters tell me I'll die young with a cancer-riddled, malnourished body if I keep my current plan. I've been called a troll for telling some breakfast isn't necessary. If you think these things don't happen across all ways of eating on this site, then you either aren't paying attention or are reading selectively.7
