Sober September 2017

Is anyone else noticing better skin as a result of this? I think I look less weathered.2

I have skipped the alcohol several times in the past few years in order to drop weight, usually in January for a few months. Once I hit my goal, I added moderate alcohol back. I've always started gaining weight when I do that, leading me to have to start over the next year.
Due to circumstances, my wife and I are both off alcohol this time. (She stopped in August, I stopped on Sept.) As usual, I don't find it that hard, and I only think about it occasionally in passing. I'm grateful for that.
Since stopping, my weight has returned to my goal (I was up a couple of pounds) and I believe I'm more alert. Also, sometimes alcohol upsets my stomach when sleeping, and that's gone completely. All those are good payoffs.
I wish I felt more peppy in the morning. Without drinking, I have no excuse not to leap out of bed and seize each and every day. I can't report much of a difference in that regard. Sadly, still not a morning person.6 -

We are days away from the end of September people! Keep up the good work!1

I was sober for a year. Tried a little last summer. Immediately impacted my skin. So, I have been sober again for a year with no plans of drinking again.6

I had a few stints of 30 days in there as well. Previously, I would have had a goal in mind, and then would have gone out on day 60 or 61 and had my bottle of wine....but this time it's different. I'm not itching to go out and buy wine.

I had an uncomfortable dinner situation last night and had three glasses of wine rather than my goal of two or less. My eating was great at dinner. But back at home I binged a little, my first in a while. Maybe it's time to admit that the food choices I make after drinking will likely always be poor ones.5

Yesterday was a difficult day. One of my big triggers is tinkering in the garage. We moved this summer and I was building some racks to hang the rakes, shovels and other garden things. Cravings got really strong around 4pm. I had a good excuse to drive to the liquor store because I had to go to the Home Depot for screws. I actually sat in the car for a few minutes then decided to go to the gym instead to break the crave.
It worked. On to the the next day.

I had my drinking day yesterday which had been 3 weeks since I drank. I actually came in under my beer allowance and it wasn't really all that fun anyway and on top of that I didn't eat the mcdonalds I have planned after, I ate a fit and active flat bread with some turkey breast and salami and small bag of chips. Haha!!! Make it a great one everyone!6

I went to a party last night - passed by the open bar aware of the trigger, but not overly tempted. I did however indulge in plentiful food stuffs. Time to move past using not drinking as an excuse to over eat - get balance in life.6

Well played! Good food is way better for you than a mound of alcohol. It's pretty obvious when you wake up, eh?2 -
I was tempted today.... I have some stuff going on. But we are so close to being done with September so I didn’t give in. My eating has been off this week so I think part of the faulty logic was “well you are already over anyway and you got stuff going on.”
But I didn’t give in. I don’t want to start over at day 1 again when I have sixty some days behind me now. Thank you all for being here.9 -
I stopped drinking earlier this year. I used to drink on occasions with friends but that gets a bit out of hand.. I am so much healthier without any alcohol. I'm the type that can't stop at one drink, so quitting cold turkey did the trick for me. Besides, the last time I had such a bad hang over in the morning and I was puking my guts out, my 9 year old kid started crying and was so upset! That totally ended drinking for me.12

I'm so mad. I knew I was going to drink yesterday and I did good and I ate good last night however today as been a train wreck. I've had the well I already blew it this morning attitude by ear halloween Chex mix I made, then my kids mcdonalds fries, then two bowls of chili and m&ms and now a bowl of ice cream. Ugh..... it's really not worth it to me. I was/ am doing so good and had been losing consistently now I know it was one day and I'm not going to weigh myself or try and beat myself up to bad but still the alcohol was not and is not even worth it. I had planned to drink next Saturday for another outing but I'm not even going to do that anymore. Guess I'm glad it happened the way it did because it just keeps proving to be a bad choice/ idea every time I do it which is getting to be fewer and fewer a6

Impressed with this. I was thinking the same thing, for October, only with 10 pounds.
I'd be up for the challenge for another month, since I absolutely did not do well in September.4 -
A thread for October has been started!

Welcome and I love my booze too but it doesn't love me back. I just had to break up.

Just wanted to check back in to keep myself accountable. So far I have had one beer this month. My anniversary is tomorrow and we're going to a nice restaurant where I'll have one drink if I actually want it. It has been easy not drinking with friends - and so much cheaper! I was upset on Saturday but instead of drinking alcohol, I got myself a pumpkin iced coffee surprisingly it did the trick.8

Stuck to my plan of one drink on Friday and under five drinks on Saturday, but I caved on Sunday. There was leftover beer in the house after having company over. I let my thinking of "better get it out of the house now so I don't have it later" win, even though beer doesn't go bad in a week! Ughhh.
BUT...I still got up, went to work and went to the gym today so it didn't totally throw me off my game. I plan on letting myself have one or two drinks Friday after work then maybe a few on Saturday night depending on what we get up to. Then on to Sober October5 -
Does anyone else feel like this month FLEW by!!? I can't believe how close we are to the end already.5

PurpleLavendar thanks so much for setting up this group. It really helped me this month. I had a crap day at work yesterday ...and often times that would have meant getting a bottle of wine. Thought briefly crossed my mind and I was like NO. I feel like I have gotten a healthier view on alcohol this month. Continuing again next month.7
