Am I the only one who thinks greek yogurt is GROSS?!

Its too thick, and leaves my mouth feeling all coated and nasty. I love reg yogurt (and home made raw milk yogurt is AMAZING!), but greek yogurt is just gross.
I cant be the only one?

You're not alone.0

I only use Greek yogurt to make dips, otherwise love non fat reg yogurt.0

It's an acquired taste. I much much prefer 'fromage frais' (or 'fromage blanc') but it seems that it hasn't made it to the US yet unfortunately... I'm still hoping I'll find some one day...0

Yes. Yes, you are. You can just leave right now.

Can't stand the stuff plain. But mixed with other foods it's relatively palatable. jmho, ymmv, etc.0

It is sooo good! COME ON!0

I tried the Chobani brand with fruit and it was totally gross!! I decided to try a different brand and tried Dannon Oikos without fruit and I really liked it. It didn't keep the hunger away like my usual omelet in the mornings but it was a nice change.0

I hear that all the time. Just swallow it for now till you get used to the taste. Eventually you'll come to love the texture and feeling of it in your mouth. It's a great way to get in protein so it's worth working on getting used to.0 -
I am Greek and I hate it...0

OMGOSH!!! I HATE IT TOO LOL AND EVERYONE AROUND ME EATS IT LIKE IT'S ICE CREAM LOL YUCK!!!! I LIKE THE YOPLAIT THAT FULL OF CALORIES AND SUGAR LOL THAT'S WHY I JUST DON'T EAT IT!!!0

also hates it.0 -
I don't like it either. Such a strange texture!0

I think it tastes just like sour cream. I do NOT think it tastes anything like regular yogurt sweetened with sugar and fruit. But I only use it in cooking, or on a baked potato or in dip or anywhere I might normally use sour cream.0

It is definitely an acquired taste. The first kind I tried was the Dannon Light & Fit. I only ate it once because it made me gag. The Yoplait kind with the granola was okay, but left that weird taste and feeling in my mouth. So, Chobani it is for now! It tastes pretty good (IMO), is filling, and gives my protein a boost.0

    I hear pineapple helps that.0 -
I love it, but I found out every year Greek Yogurt produces over 5 million pound of acidic whey that can not be safely disposed of so it just sits in giant containers. Kinda made me stop eating it0

I don't like it on it's own but we make a low calorie meal with it by mixing it with fresh garlic and herbs and stuffing chicken breasts then wrapping the chicken in parma ham... this is probably one of the only ways I can eat it0
-
Blah! It tastes like sour cream and yogurt had a nasty love child. I've tried it with fruit.. Granola.. I just can't do it!0
-
I felt the same way. I ended up getting Chobani (which has real fruit in it) and added walnuts (or any nut) to break up the texture. I really like it now!0
-
Which brand and flavor of greek yogurt did you eat? There are all different kinds and some are great!0
-
The Dannon Oikos is the ONLY brand of the greek yogurt I will eat. My friend was in the same boat as you and I had her try the vanilla and she loved it. I have had several other brands and I agree, those are gross, but the Dannon one has me hooked and for 12g of protein I am glad. I add it to smoothies to pump up my protein with out expensive powders.0

Here's a couple tips:
Stir it really well. It'll get creamy.
Don't buy plain. And don't buy the ones with fruit already in them. (Ick!) I buy vanilla and add my own fresh fruit.
Kroger has their own brand of "lite" greek yogurt. The vanilla is in a 6 oz cup. 16g of protein for only 90 calories.0 -
I don't like it plain... it's gotta have some flavoring.
But I would like to try more recipes with it.0 -
I thought the same thing until I had Fage.0
-
It's worth trying a few different brands, they all taste different. I don't like it plain but I do like Chobani, Danio or Liberte with fruit.
Oh and Fage with honey but that's hard to find my way, and expensive.0 -
I guess you love the chemicals and preservatives in regular yogurt. Not for me. I don't eat junk.0
-
I use to think the same thing before coming to MFP. I would never, ever, ever eat it alone, but it is so amazing mixed with different things, from sub it for sourcream with tacos or baked potatoes, to making creamy sauces, to baking, and mixing it in smoothies. The uses of this stuff is endless. Now I am never without a tub of it in my fridge.0

Yes, you are the only one.
Just kidding...but I do think you may be in the minority!0 -
Just add bacon.0
