Very windy today despite the sun. I had originally planned a morning run but then it was freezing (frost warning) so I pushed it to later in the day. Finished B210K so I'll be looking for some sort of new training program starting in a week or two as I am much better at sticking with a thing when I have a plan. I'm just not sure what kind of plan I want yet...
Upcoming Races:
9/24 Heartbeat Run 10K
1/1/18 Resolution Run 5K
8/18/18 Edmonton Marathon 10K

9/1 - Rest day
9/2 - 13.18 miles. Very slow, mostly walking. Really struggled with low BG throughout entire run. Depleted electrolytes and had cramping towards end and afterwards.
9/3 - Rest
9/4 - Cross train - hiked 10 miles.
9/5 - Unplanned rest day - seems like I might have sprained left ankle.
9/6 - 6.34 miles (plan was for 8, but trying to be easy on ankle ahead of HM on 9/9)
9/7 - Unplanned rest - trying to rest ankle for HM and spare electrolytes
9/8 - Rest
9/9 - 12.74 Wabash Trace HM 2:02:08 (we all took a wrong turn shortly after start, causing the short distance)
9/10 - Rest
9/11 - Rest
9/12 - 5 miles treadmill intervals
9/13 - 8.04 miles
9/14 - 5 miles treadmill, low BG issues and generally not good
9/15 - Rest
9/16A - 9.12 miles fasting, with electrolytes and yohimbine. Good BG's, indicating yohimbine is working to release stubborn fat, but slow run. Plan was for 18 miles today. Stopped for rain and because pace was so slow.
9/16B - 5.01 miles - did not get to 18 today, but stopped because it was dark and I was worn out
I'm so far behind that I'm not going to reach goal
Upcoming Races:
9/9/17 - Wabash Trace HM
10/21/17 - Oregon Trail Run HM3 -

Ran FCYC Glow run 5K tonite. PR of 24:04 and finished first in AG and top 10 overall. Only thing I was kind of disappointed with was not breaking 24 min. It was still very humid and 80 degrees at race start and as usual I went out too fast with a 6:50 first mile, so the heat really beat me down the last 2 miles and I ran them in the 8:15 range. Can't wait for cooler weather. Hope everyone is doing well this weekend.9 -
Got a whole 1.5 in. felt pretty well ok for most of it, but feels pretty sore and achy now. *sigh*
Running buddy and I are getting a reality check though. Most of our half training this spring was run/walk interval runs. Then I've been pretty well out, since the half. But we are trying to make the most of my approved running distances, so I have been running straight, with no walk breaks. Yeah, it is amazing how tough 1.5 was. We struggled far more than we should have. So, back to square 1 with endurance I guess.

@BruinsGal_91 Woo Yay Hooplah! Fabulous result!!!
@NikolaosKey Another one with a 10K PB!! Bravo.
@sarahthes Good luck in your first 10K next Saturday! Next goal? HM? With mini goals of 12K, 15K along the way? Or maybe work on a 5K or 10K PB?
I did a 15 km run this morning in gorgeous weather, and totalled over 27,000 steps for the day.
I've had a couple of bubblies this evening, but where is my damn donut!! That's totally a plan for tomorrow.3 -

I've had 2 intense leg days with my PT this week I think he's trying to kill me LOL
Just punch him in the face. JK, don't. That is just my go to.
Hahhaha Nah I like him too much to do that. He really pushes me when all I want to do is give up. I wouldn't even have considered starting to run if it wasn't for him and all the other trainers and members.1 -

My legs were sore from 7 consecutive days of exercise and two good workouts Thurs and Fri. It was also extremely humid. All that considered, I'll take it. I feeling very confident that things will work out on race day. I had the donut today and its well worth it. My wife and son got bored with theirs once the ice cream was gone. Next Sunday, I be walking the last half of the Boston marathon route to help raise money for Cancer Research through the Jimmy Fund. My dad had a full mastectomy this year and received treatment at Dana Faber. He's doing great but he saw how women who are suffering with cancer do not have the same ease. I get three great things from this, I get to walk the great course, with my dad and I get to help a great cause.
@cburke8909 - good luck. I've done that walk a couple of times, and my husband once did the full 26 mile walk. Pretty grueling, but worth it.2 -
last two days - 29 min/2.78 and 30 min/2.82. A bit slower today than yesterday, but happy with getting up to 30 minutes. The next couple of weeks will be focused on trying to get my speed a bit better in that same 30 minute time.

Foggy and humid morning for a run. My neighbor stopped me to tell me he probably couldn't do all that walking. So I kept running.
09/11/2017 - 4.0 miles
09/16/2017 - 7.0 miles
09/17/2017 - 3.0 miles

@kristinegift - I am still trying to catch up on posts this month but saw a couple pages back you are considering the Louisiana Marathon. Please let me know if you decide to run, you will be in my area in South Louisiana. I will be running the quarter marathon on Saturday and cheering on all my friends running the half and full on Sunday. Louisiana Marathon probably has the best post race festival - IMO!1
-
Alarm didn't go off this morning, so no run for me. I'm hopefully going to get a quick one in during nap time. Might put on my chest HRM and run the LTHR test my Garmin has programmed1
-
@Orphia Thanks! I was thinking of doing a slow mileage build over the course of the winter. Not sure if I want to aim for a half next year... I think it depends on if I find one I want to run at in either late spring or early fall!1

Another humid morning... blegh. 65F and 90% humidity = 67 dew point... yuck. Can't wait for this humidity to break so we can get our cool, crisp weather back!
On a positive note though, I did manage to keep my HR fairly low and the average was just 140 (whereas yesterday the average was somewhere north of 160...) so despite my legs feeling tight and heavy today, my body isn't uber fatigued. Phew!

I opted for a treadmill run. Didn't relish running 5 (which is long for me) in the mountainous mountains near our hotel. And our daughter isn't feeling well so I wanted to stay close.
Listened to a podcast called “That Triathlon Show”. Good stuff.
I'm now collecting my cold-ravaged daughter to go hang out in the hot tub and sauna. Should feel pretty good.2 -
Since I enjoy reading you guys so much and, I learn from them, here’s my stab at a race report. Bear with me, I’m not much of a writer and my thoughts tend to tangent and twist.
The Mulberry Island Half has been going on for 36 years. It’s a flat fast course (course record 1:06:50) that takes place on Fort Eustis Army base. It’s a Super Grand Prix event so some of the better runners from the seven cities along with various military personnel stationed here run in it. The temperature at the start of the race (7:45a EST) was 70F/ 21C with humidity at 85%. In an hour it was 80F/ 29C at 91% humidity.
For this race my goal was to finish it un-injured. I knew I didn’t stand a chance of placing in my age group. I used it as my long distance run for marathon training. Technically I should have run 17 miles but, I rationalized to myself since I’m running 13 at a faster pace, I was alright with that.
I decided to bike up to the race since it wasn’t that far (6 miles). Also, from past experience the line to get your car checked before going on base can get backed up. It helps I have a CAC card too. When I got up to the base at 6:30, I was right about the car check line. They ended up starting the race 15 minutes later (7:45) because there were so many cars being checked. I get up to pre-registration around 7:00 and all goes good. I warm up doing dynamic stretches (thanks @Stoshew71 for the video you posted before). I didn’t do any warm-up running. I decided to use the first 3 miles as a warm-up.
So the race starts and I’m comfortable in the middle of the pack (219 runners). The first 2 miles my buddy Winston ran with me. Then before leaving me he got I Want it that Way by The Backstreet Boys stuck in my head (the whole damn race!). It’s a long story. I think this was his mental tactic to throw me off. Lol. After 5 miles of keeping my pace easy and, various renditions of said song, I started to increase my pace. It was getting hot and I was sweating a lot. I stopped to get water around mile 6 and dump another on my head, ahh. All was going pretty good. I was slowly catching other runners and those that the weather was really affecting/ injured. Right at the mile 9 sign, I get a sharp pain in the top of my left foot and lower outside shin. I take a couple of hops and ease my pace. After several steps it feels a little better. I start doing an exaggerated flippy back kick to get it to fully release. I was 95% sure this was a muscle cramp due to the dehydration and, I knew there was a Gatorade stop at 10. So I get to 10 and drink 4 cups of the weakest “Gatorade” aka orange water. I start feeling better around mile 12 and decide I want to get this over with. I finished pretty strong but still felt my left foot a little when I would stand for a bit. I ended up finishing 1:45:56, 35/187 OA, 8/18 AG. I was happy because my previous HM PR was 2:03:45 and I woke up this morning feeling good. I’m going to go for a little recovery run later today to see how everything feels. An additional note to this race was that I forgot to apply Vaseline to my sensitive areas. I didn’t feel the chaffing until after the race when the sweat was starting to dry (salt) and especially during the shower.
Sidenote: my friend Winston finished 1:43:41, 30 OA, 5 same AG after being out till 2a drinking and singing karaoke that morning. That made me feel like I could’ve pushed myself a little more, oh well. Sorry, I forgot to take any pics.
Like most of us crazies, I signed up for a few more HM and a marathon for next year, right after. I hope everyone’s having good runs and healing fast! Come on Fall, I know you’re out there!!

@sarahthes Good luck in your 10K next weekend. I ran my first on Aug 26. I am sure you will do well and whatever time you post will be a PB and something for you to shoot for in the future. From seeing the progress you've made I will be surprised if you are not training for a HM in the near future.4 -

Total 101.39 of 180 Miles
Ended up taking Thursday off then getting up at 4am Friday to get my 7 miles in. Yesterday was just a short recovery and today was my first long run since October of last year. It was cooler this morning but humidity was 100%. It rained lightly for about the first 45 minutes then once the sun came up it was steamy. Actually fogged my glasses a few times. Ended the week with a bit over 44 miles for the 2nd week in a row. I'm getting close to the starting work for the marathon plan, but need to start adding some more miles to a few of my weekly runs and get them to 10-11 miles, and I'd really like to be comfortable with a 17-18mile long run. Today's run wasn't really much of a stress on the body or legs, but my pace is still about 50-60 seconds off what I'd like to be doing them at. I'm still holding back quite a bit because i know there is a big difference in 44 miles a week and 55 miles a week. First official training run is in December so i've got plenty of time to get there.4 -
September goal: 65 miles
9/3: 7.1 miles
9/4: 3.1 miles
9/5: 3.2 miles (intervals)
9/6: 2.7 miles
9/10: 7.2 miles
9/12: 3.1 miles (intervals)
9/13: 2.6 miles
9/16: 3.1 miles
9/17: 7.1 miles
39.2/65 miles
Today's run was a slow, hot, suckfest. I was not feeling it the whole time and it was a struggle just to finish my planned 7 miles. I did though, and I feel really good about that. Yesterday's run was so awesome, I guess I couldn't expect today's to be good too. I felt like I was running in slow motion. I am really ready to be done with the heat.
It sound like there were lots of good races this weekend. Congrats to all who made it through, who got PRs, and who got AG wins.

@ctlaws44 great job! Congrats!1

Love your race report @juliet3455 ! You run the most interesting trail races. If Jaja in Ponoka opens to public registration this year you should do it- faux Barkley fun!
@sarahthes I am admittedly biased since its local but Edson's Eddie's Half is really nice if you are looking for a combo of road, non-technical and technical trail. I've heard really good things about the Millarville Half as well (they have clay medals!) but halves outside of Eddie's won't be my priority distance for the next several years so I can't speak to the course. I know you are already set for Edmonton 2018 as a 10k but its an awesome course for the half, that section was the fastest part of the full for me haha
@MNLittleFinn damn that alarm! Get what you can!
I got out with the intention of doing a quick 20, my piriformis immediately had other plans and I was hurting. Decided to stick it out for a bit of speedwork since something is better than nothing, somehow managed to PR my 5k- might be able to get that sub 20 5k this year afterall! Hoping my hip behaves much better tomorrow because I don't have time for these shenanigans
