Hi all, once again I'm behind in reading posts. Don't know how you all stay up tot date. Because I'm still new, I'm still trying to remember who is who. Anyone have any suggestions would be welcome.

Happy September! Feels like Fall already here in Vermont. Yikes, I still have a porch to finish painting!

My new jumprings came in yesterday so have been working on the new bracelet to put in the shop. Ran out so had to order more. Now have to wait to finish the bracelet. So I played around making some earrings. So I've been a slug and not doing much.

My weight has been stable and not moving down like I hoped it would. I was hoping to get to 30 lbs by the time we leave for vacation on the 15th. Only 2 lbs away.

    Goals for September

    1. keep being faithful to my tracking
    2. try new recipes
    3. increase my exercise (a must)
    4. enjoy vacation without gaining weight
    5. finish painting the porch

    Welcome to the newbies!

Thanks ... and yes, it was our "September Century". We've been cycling at least one 100 mile ride each month since January. So that's September done! :)

Took a long walk today. Saw a snake, ( just a garden snake, but he surprised me just the same!). Picked up a rock I had hid earlier in the week. I guess I did too much of a good job and no one has found it. So its home again!

Hugs to you ladies that are dealing with issues, know I keep you all close to my heart! Trying to be calm with my feelings about my boot camp son. I was never this way with my other two sons. I guess being not distracted and my attention to kids still at home isn't there now. On the good side I'm not turning to food for comfort! I haven't gained any weight since leaving TOPS in January if his year. I am proud of myself for that fact. Just as my son is dealing with boot camp, I need to deal with not having him home.
    Hugs!

Have any of you tried Inner Armour Isolate Zero to add protein? One of my football players was drinking from a gallon jug of it yesterday in class, and it actually looked yummy and interesting. You mix it with water rather than milk, so it has sort of a crystal light look to it. His was pink. They make a pink lemonade and a berry flavor. Not sure which his was. I looked it up online and the isolate Zero is the one you drink if you are interested in weight loss. There are others if you are more into bulking up or whatever, so he might have been using one of those. He just said Inner Armour when I asked him, and he said it tasted good and that he liked it. It got mixed reviews on Amazon. I'm sorely tempted, because I am failing miserably at upping my protein with food. I need to do just a little more research before I commit. It's whey protein and has 90 calories for 20 oz.

Lanette So, tell me what qualifies as strength exercises. I read about your weights and think I could learn those daunting looking machines at the Y but just feel time is an issue. Perhaps there is a solution at home for me.
drkatiebug My husband swore by protein drinks and I have used milkshake things. He shopped GNC. I am fine with protein here and working on keeping kidneys going so I will not add these back in the near future. But they were good!
It is not quite 6 pm and I am calling it a day. Going to bed and reading this morning's paper!

Josephine - I found a website that is along the order of "Strong Women Stay Young". You'll see info about strength training for older gals, and the "vibrant aging" section is close to the program I do.

    http://www.strongwomen.com/fitness/

To me, the idea is to be able to lift heavy pans (seriously), move heavy dishes off the top shelf of my cupboards, to have enough strength to lift with my legs and knees and not my back, be able to get up off the floor quickly and out of a chair quickly. Oh, and put some stress on my bones to keep them stronger since I'm kind of thin boned.

Of course, more muscle burns more calories and ups metabolism. No quick weight loss thing, but over time there are changes.

The program I've been following has helped me immensely in these areas.

    Hope this helps- B)<3

    Lanette

PS - I bought my dumb bells at Walmart, and my ankle weights over the internet. I probably have around $120 invested in this "gear" but I don't think that's too bad - if I had to pay to go to the gym that would only cover a few months.

Marcelyn ... thought provoking post. The "what else can I bring" comment is applicable to many situations. I plan to remember it.

Katla ... 64 oz is a lot of water, but it's what MFP and most dietitians/medical people recommend. It will take me a while to get there again, but it is doable and it does help.

:)langman, Some of the women on this thread are amazing and respond to everyone usually using a word processing document to go back and forth between the thread and their responses. A good way to get started is to respond to one or two comments that seem interesting to you or respond to someone who is going through something similar to your life. Over time, you'll get to know more and more of the community. "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good".

:)Josephine, I started with the "Strong Women Stay Young" program. I bought my ankle weights at Big Five and my dumbbells through Amazon. I don't have the time or money to go to a gym.

:) I told Jake I'd watch a movie with him today so my step count is low and I did only a few things on my "to do list" but we enjoyed the movie and it sparked a discussion on an important topic.

First weekend of spring. Bit of a bicycle ride today. :)

We had everything out there ... cloud, lots of cloud, a few rays of sun, wind, rain ...

This was a 'route checking' ride for an event we're hosting at the end of October. There will be a few changes ... but this is why we like to ride these things in advance.

    Nouveau Trois!
    Distance: 161.9km
    etc.

We are also hosting a 600 km ride this weekend. We set two riders off at 5 am on Saturday, returned to our cabin and got ready for our ride.

When we finished our ride, we grabbed a short nap, dashed into town to get some dinner, then drove out to see how the riders were doing. Unfortunately one had pulled out but the other is still going.

He rolled into the caravan park where we're staying at about 10 pm last night, and we served up a light meal. His plan was to get going again at about 3 am, which he did, and then about 5:30 am, we were on the road to find him, and get some more food to him.

We returned and napped again, and will be heading out shortly for lunch and to check on him again.

He's going well, and if all goes well, should finish with a couple hours to spare at least before the cut off time of 9 pm tonight (Sunday).

And then we'll finally get a decent night's sleep!!

We wanted to ride this event ... we've put a lot of time and effort into creating the route and checking it and cycling portions of it etc. ... but our recent cold/flu meant that our fitness level isn't what it should be. Even the 160 km (100 mile) ride yesterday hurt more than it should have.

Anyway, when I'm not working and going to university ... this is what we do. :)

Pip, you and Kirby are great for doing the MS ride year after year. I hope you get the additional shirt this year.

Rye, I hope you will cheer up even if the “Flashes” continue. Gosh, I remember how terrible they were. ((((Hugs)))) Six dollars a gallon for gas???? I thought they were arresting any business owner that was gouging? That’s terrible.

Heather, so glad you and DH made it through the BBQ without too much pain. :)

Yvonne, glad to see you back and sounding good. Now just keep it up.

Chris, sorry about the position you wanted but glad you aren’t giving up. That is fantastic that you could ride 15 miles. Wow. You go girl. Ahhh, did you drink that huge bottle of wine???? You bad girl. Lol Love the pictures.

Felecia, good goals. Good luck. My DH has been frustrating me some lately and I pray for patience. A little (or a lot) grace would suit me well also.

KarenVA, cool toys. I remember many of them. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Mary, I’ll be thinking of you and your DH and hope things go his way. Be safe in your travels.

Dana, gosh it sounds like the only thing left to do is new countertops. I always think it’s great when you can do one thing at a time on updating a home. I hope you enjoy it for a few years.

    Joyce, I hope it’s a very happy anniversary. <3

We are all watching Irma to see what path it will take. It’s already a Category 2 and hasn’t even reached warm water yet. One possible path would put it heading right at the Carolina coast. They expect it to reach a Category 4 before then. It may just turn out to sea and miss the US totally which is what we are praying for. Still won’t have a good guess at the path for a few more days. If it were to hit here we are looking at 8 to 10 days out. We’ve already made a plan as to where to go at a hotel we know takes dogs.

Sending love, good thoughts and cool sunshine to all of you.

Did an hour of Kathy Smith Total Body Lift DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Stott Pilates DVD.

I want to thank everyone who checked out my menu and especially those who left me notes. I have been so busy, it isn't even funny. This shower/wedding is going to be the death of me yet. I'm making the cake for the shower, I know Denise knows it. What she doesn't know is that I've made a "veil" for the doll for the cake. You have no idea how many times I've made a marbled cake until I got one with the marbeling that I was somewhat satisfied with. Bought the boxes for her gifts yesterday along with cards (hey, I just got them at the dollar store. People aren't going to remember the card, they will remember what was inside the box.). Wrapped one of the gifts, made the bow. Had a bit of trouble with that one. Just have to buy the wrapping paper for the other gift (the placq) and make the bow.

Yvonne - so glad to hear that everyone is accounted for. Fortunately, on here I don't think anyone has someone who is unaccounted for. If they did, I'm sure we would have heard about it.

Beth - when I first started using the weedwacker, so many times I would tip it towards the ground and it would really shave the area around the edge. It's taken me a while, but I'm getting better at it. Still not perfect, but I'm getting better at it. You will, too, it just takes time and practice.

Just tried on the dress that I'm going to wear to the shower. It's the same one I wore to Jessica's friend's wedding (the one I made the cake for). I can't see buying a new dress. I'm sure Maria did -- but that's her problem, not mine. I'll probably get something nice for the rehearsal dinner since it usually is chillier at the end of October. Guess after the shower I should start looking. The shower is next weekend. Can't come too soon for me!

Does anyone know a food that is a nutural diuretic? Sometimes I get "cankles" and I'd really like to get my ankles down. I'm sure it's some water, just not a whole lot. I do wear compression stockings, but I can't wear them as much in summertime since I'm wearing shorts.

I'm really going to try hard to eat just when I'm hungry and not out of boredom. I'm drinking lemon water hoping that will help some.

Pretty cool today. The thought actually crossed my mind that perhaps putting on slacks would be appropriate. But I don't want to give up my shorts. Bet the pool temp is way down (boo)

Lenora - I'm so happy for Tami. I'll keep her in my prayers. That's how I remembered making the bow, I just don't remember making the loops smaller and smaller. How did you make the "tail". I just took a piece, folded it in half, and then also used the pipcleaner to keep it in place. I guess that'll work

Dana - almost everything that has sucralose as the sweetner also has that (I'll probably misspell this) asaculphane potassium in it, and that a.p. stuff is said to be nasty stuff. You used to get things with just sucralose, but I guess the a.p. helps to keep the price down.

Joyce - happy anniversary! You sure have stuck thru thick and thin. I think that's the problem with so many marriages today. No compromise, when things go bad -- get a divorce.

Yesterday when I went to the Y to do the HIIT, I realized that there are only 2 machines that I will use. All the others have so much tension! Also, the stairstepper is broken, wonder when that'll get fixed. As I recall, they have two stairsteppers at the Hickory branch. I would think they should bring at least one of them to the branch near me. But they probably won't

Steve came last night around 9. He was in traffic. Well, on the Friday before Labor Day weekend, what do you expect? He's talking about leaving around 9 Monday night. I really think he should leave in the morning to beat the traffic. People will try to stretch out their holiday weekend as much as possible. I think he's somewhat lonely. We thought for sure when he got here that he'd be so tired that he wouldn't want to talk. No go. Talked until 11 when Vince finally said that he has to go to bed. Maybe that's why Steve wants to stay late on Monday, not because of the traffic, but so that he isn't alone.

KJ - Vince STILL hasn't buried his mother's ashes, and she passed away in 2005! Thank goodness I asked to have them shipped to his family in Missouri. By now they probably buried them. Why he was so insitent that he be the one to bury the ashes, I have no idea. I knew that he'd never get to it. So sorry to hear about your MIL. Good job getting that airline fare!

    beloved elf - welcome!

I just made brownies for the guy whose wife passed away. She liked to cook (and it showed in her weight), mostly desserts. I tell you, I'm so sick of desserts. She had this brownie recipe that I made. I have no idea why it got a "delicious" rating from her, it's just a plain old brownie recipe. Well, if he has to cancel Mexican Train, I can always take them to Denise this weekend.

    Welcome everyone new!

Steve wanted to go to Waffle House (ehhh). I got a side salad with mushrooms on top and had 2 cups of tea. I'm really full now. No dressing on the salad. Came home and the guy who was to seed, fertilize, and put straw down in the backyard was doing this and getting the front yard ready, too. Actually, we didn't ask him to do the front yard since we still have to do the piping, but it's really not a big deal. Had we known he was going to come we would have taken out these trees in the backyard. The only reason we kept them was for erosion purposes. But, really, we'll take them out and we can put down the seed on those small areas.

liz - welcome! Good luck on your tri...keep us informed about your journey

    Good nite all!
I never thought getting a new fridge and stove would be so exhausting! Waiting for the delivery, sweeping and washing floors behind the fridge, wiping down the new bins, taking out the food, putting in the food, cleaning up afteards. Wow! I'm whipped!!

Our gas prices are $2.20, just a little higher. The Arkansas Baptists left for Texas 2 days ago with a huge laundry trailer, a generator that's on a semi trailer, and kitchen. It's wonderful they have a trained group of volunteers to go work disaster relief situations.

    Lenora Happy Anniversary!
I was wondering if you were heading north. Maybe next time I'll get to meet you!

DJ New countertops is on the list. One thing at a time. I want to pay as we go!

WaltzingMom Now that the weather is cooling down, the garage is becoming more appealing! I'll post pictures one of these days!! A two car garage and it used to be pack full.

Hi, Lanette, Becca, Carol, Allie, Gloria, Mary, Lisa, Chris and all I missed

I can't believe it's September 2nd and we are on page 5 already!

    Keep up the good work!

Barbie watched an interesting movie today and so did I. I put on from my DVR that sounded interesting. Charlie had already watched part of it and gave me almost the whole plot as I was saying pretty lucky lalalalalalalalalalal. He said it was very slow in developing and not worth watching. But stubborn me wanted to see for myself. Well he was right and i deleted it. Then I found another one. So this one, Keepinup with the Steins, was on my DVR so I put it on. It was about Jewish boys getting ready for their Bar Mitzvah. I guess if you are rich enough and pretty superficial, the party after holds more importance than the Bar Mitzvah itself. That was the premise of this movie. And this poor kid was w agre I because he had al these male hormones, Jewish school was boring, and a nervous wreck. His extra bed Grandpa came and helped him learn the meaning of the actual event instead of how you will be seen in your community as holding he richest reception afterwards. What the Ravbi said to him really stuck to him. Befor you are 13, your parents are responsible for your actions. After 13, you are a man and you are responsible. I have always been enthralled about the Jewish faith. It is rich in tradition and family devotion and relationships. In this movie the boy helped him and his grandpa repair a hole so deep in their relationship, no one ever thought it could be fixed. It was a tender, loving movie and this young boy was rely on his way to becoming a man.

Mashable, you are Wonder Woman. Even if you aren't riding, you are providing a much needed service to the riders. They couldn't do it without you. Do these rides generate money for a charity or are they just for fitness and fun?

    Thanks!

These rides are part of Audax or Randonneuring ... an international branch of the sport of cycling. It started in the 1800s with a newspaper challenge to cycle from Paris to Brest and back, in France. A feat that would have been monumental in those days given that the roads weren't paved and bicycles were in their early years.

Since then, the Paris-Brest-Paris 1200 km ride has been held every 4 years (with the exception of the war years), and a whole collection of clubs have sprung up all over the world. There are rides as short as 50 km (30 miles) all the way up to the longest one which is 1400 km in the UK.

These rides are challenges and adventures ... pushing riders to their limits.

This year we are members of two clubs, Audax Australia, our main club and the BC Randonneurs, a club we joined when we were in Canada for a month so we could do some of their rides.

And it is the challenge that has always appealed to me. The human body can do a whole lot more than many people think it can. It's fascinating to discover just how much we can do.

The sport has the additional appeal of adventure ... it has taken me all over the place. And it has given me the chance to meet all sorts of interesting people ... including my husband.

Thanks for the strength training info. I read a bit about it and can see 2 possibilities. We go to the Y because my husband's favorite aunt requested that my son learn to swim. They do have a program there and there's a room my son can stay in while I exercise--I just have to figure out how to make the time. He is not allowed to be with me and is a distraction anyhow. If I can do that 2 times weekly and then do some at home another time, that would be 3 times. I do not mean to be a whiner but I feel overwhelmed at times (and worried all the time). My kid has a good heart but he can not be left on his own to do things because well, he is 8 and he does not see the merits of cleaning or doing schoolwork if I am not scowling down upon him.
On a good news front, I found out that we are not in any evacuation zone for our area due to weather. I sort of knew that--we live on Hill Street. Looks like Irma is not coming here and Harvey has blown on by. Still, I know I should creep into the attic and get those missing windows blocked somehow.
It is Sunday-think I will make a waffle for my son's breakfast. I have high-fiber muffins still left over. Have a piece of round steak so I could throw that in the slow cooker with onions and carrots and bouillion-will do it now so I don't have to leave the thing on while away. Son has rice and chicken left over if he wants-he lives on rice and chicken. And there is a salad in refrig also. Ah, food is taken care of for today.
The paper will be here soon and I can take it to bed and read.
I hope you all are tucked in safe where you are and have a laugh today.

    Morning, all...

Have finally figured out how to map my day so that I can fit in working out early at least four times a week--and Corey pointed out that my general restlessness may have something to do with not getting out of the house (I work at home when I'm not traveling). Working out at the gym, as opposed to doing yoga at home, may be part of the answer. Plus, more than anything else, I've struggled for months to get into a routine. So--I mapped out every day for September, with specific times when I get up, when I go work out, when I work, when I write. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Will work if I choose to make it work.

Traveling three weeks out of four in September... but mapping it all out makes it look less exhausting somehow... we'll see how it all goes.

Off to get that second cup of coffee...

    Love y'all,
Lisa in West Texas, where the temperatures are finally down in the low 90s, high 80s all next week. Yay!
