October Goal: Run 80 km.
Going to take it slow as not in the top shape after one month break from running.5 -
Eaglesfanintn wrote: »Did 4 miles this morning at a mild but consistent pace. It was my longest run in quite some time and I hope to slowly add more distance this month. Felt good enough afterwards to mow the lawn. I see a nap in my future.
Nice running. Taking it easy adding miles sounds like a great idea to me.1 -

October goals:
Complete C25K
Run a 5k (28Oct - haven't registered yet, a little gun shy)
40 total miles
Welcome! go ahead and register for the 5k, you'll be ready when the time comes. Finishing C25K is a great goal, and your mileage goal is very reasonable. you got this!
I agree go register!0 -
Okay my goal this month is 60 miles. I didn't feel like waking up at 3am to run before work, so I'll be doing my first October run after work. Apparently I'll do anything to avoid homework.6
-
New to this... Going to set a main goal of 100km this month with a secondary goal of running 5km without stopping. Maybe this will be the motivation I need!7

10/1 - 6 miles
6 of 100 miles
One of my friends got me on the phone this morning so it was in the low 70s and sunny by the time I got out there, but a nice breeze was blowing so it was okay. Only downfall was about mile 5 I started to feel like I was running out of steam. Then I remembered I ate dinner at like 4 yesterday afternoon and it was 10:00 am and I hadn't eaten anything.
@eponine1984 you sign up for your 5K on the 28th and I’ll pull the trigger on the one I’ve been looking at here. My friends want to run it in costumes which is so not my thing, but yesterday I picked up something to wear.
@jvcinv fantastic weight loss – congrats
@ddmom0811 ouchie calves
@elise4270 I'm sorry you missed your race
@PastorVincent great distance PR

10/1 = 15 miles
It was a glorious 60 degrees and sunny this morning -- perfect running weather. I ran long at really great pace (fast for me anyway) -- 15 miles at 10:37 average pace per mile. A good start to the month.
15/175 (September goal miles)
Upcoming Races:
10/28 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
12/10 = BCS Marathon
1/6/18 = River Road Run Half Marathon4 -
I'm in for 100 miles and off to a decent start with the first race of the Ft. DeSoto Triple Crown this morning. I'm very happy with my 30:14 in spite of coming off of 2 weeks of barely running, and I didn't even cough up a lung afterwards! I must be on the mend. Woohoo!!
And yes, it's always a nice surprise to bring home extra bling!

October goal: 70 miles
10/1: 7.7 miles
It was a beautiful morning for a run. I had my longest run so far. I felt really good the whole time. The weather was perfect.
There was a creepy guy parked in the cemetery when I ran through there. I had to rearrange my path to avoid running past him. I don't know what he was doing there (probably meth). He wasn't really doing anything specific, but it made me uncomfortable. I am going to order some pepper spray. I mostly worry about dogs, but there are some bad people out there and I don't want to accidently run up on someone doing something they don't want me to see.
But other than being a little nervous early in the run I had a great run. I added about a half mile to my usual long run and I didn't feel like it was too much. I'm considering registering for a HM in May and I am beginning to thing maybe I will be able to do it.
Welcome @weat0043 and @eponine1984. This group has been a huge motivation for me and I definitely think you should sign up for the 5K eponine.
Upcoming Races:
10/7/17: Old Rip 5K
10/14/17: Aim at Melanoma 5K (virtual)

Copied my post below on my race report from the September thread because I forgot to move on to the new month. I haven't set an October goal yet, so I'll be back. But my goal for the next week is 0 miles. I think I can do it.katharmonic wrote: »10/1/17 Wineglass Half Marathon, 13.1 miles, 2:17:13
You guys, what a day. We had a lovely day on Saturday at the race expo and pasta dinner. The guy who is race director for the Boston Marathon, Dave McGillverey, was the speaker and it was a pretty inspiring program. We also sat with some super interesting people, including a guy who had done 64 marathons (he thought) and a woman who ran the last 5 miles or so of a marathon in just her socks because her new shoes were giving her blisters. She'd also done like 29 marathons.
I slept pretty poorly and was still suffering from my cold a bit, and the alarm came so early. It was COLD at the start, at only about 35 degrees F. We had to bus to the start and it was quite a bit of logistics and standing in the cold. I had decided to do the 2:15 finish pace group, which was pretty nerve-wracking as I've never run with a pacer and didn't know if I could hang with that pace. Well, even before I had a chance to find out, things took a bit of wrong turn when I tripped over an unseen cone in the road in the massive swarm of people moving toward the starting line. Before I even got to the start! I fell hard, because I totally didn't see it coming, and bruised and scraped both knees and hit my right hip and ribs as well (I think my arm was trapped against my ribs). I was too startled to find myself on the ground to do much more than jump back up and try to get going (and not get run over). A few people asked if I was okay and I just said yes, because I didn't want to think about the alternative.
So, I just went! I tried not to look too much at my knees and just let the adrenaline of the start kind of carry me through. It didn't seem so bad, so I felt like I could at least finish, if not manage my hoped-for PR. I didn't want to talk myself into letting that goal go already though so I kept the pacer in sight and concentrated on one foot in front of the other.
Things went pretty well for about the first 7-8 miles, and I was consistently about the same distance behind the pacer, and the time was actually a little ahead of pace, so I was pleased. Then I started feeling tired and it was getting hard to keep up. My pace was slipping and I started to lose the pace group. But I knew I was still ahead of the 2:20 group so I kept trying to at least push it a little more and not give up completely. Miles 10 and 11 were tough, and my slowest paces. When I got to the 12 mile mark I gave myself a final kick in the figurative pants (no energy for actual kicking, and knees to sore). I managed to get the last mile back down and even sprint for the end. That finish line kept moving away from me, I swear, but finally I crossed and my watch was saying about 2:17, although I didn't see the race clock well enough to know how accurate that was but I hoped it was close. The official time ended up being 2:17:13, which was a 3-minute PR for me. I was very happy but of course wonder if I hadn't thrown myself on the ground to start how much better I could have done. Seriously very excited though.
As soon as I stopped, I got feeling back in my knees and they were screaming. My hip and ribs also. I got some water and chocolate milk and then kept moving so I wouldn't freeze up. I went back to the finish line and watched for my friend to finish. She also got a new PR and was super excited. When she saw my knees she was horrified but thought it was pretty badass. We got some food and then I went to the medical tent to get cleaned up. They were so nice there! They weren't busy because I think the cool weather was working in their favor. But while I was in there, the first female finisher for the marathon came in and she looked like she was going to collapse. She was okay, but wow what effort she must have put in.
In good news, I didn't think about my cold at all during this run It was long drive home and I was happy to get cleaned up and now am resting and icing. Tomorrow is going to be a challenge.

Still in mostly recovery mode but ....
October Goals:
1-Don't injure myself trying too hard
2-Get back to a 10 mile run
3-Get my pace back to prior marathon pace on my 2-4 mile runs.
4-Find some better compression gear for this malfunctioning left leg
5-Do a better job keeping up with this thread
Oct 1 - 5 miles (left foot and leg still a little numb and tingling for the last 1.5 miles of this distance)
Beautiful morning for running. I am so happy to be able to get back out there. Sounds like lots of good goals and races this month!
@MNLittleFinn - thanks for the encouragement - and if you want to send any of those buttermilk pancakes and bacon this way, I would not complain about that either, lol! Great morning and compromise. Glad your wife is getting the bug as well!
@Orphia - I hope your back is better quickly
@BettyM1017 and @katharmonic - Awesome racing!!
@amymoreorless - Great run today
@Elise4270 - I am so sorry you missed your race! I usually can't sleep at all the night before which is only slightly better than sleeping through the start.4 -
@katharmonic FANTASTIC PR!! Congrats. Your poor knees, OMG great job getting up and getting a PR when many would have said screw it and laid there. I hope your aches are better soon.0
-
@BettyM1017 now that is some serious bling. Congrats.
@katharmonic Respect! And well done on the PR. I'm hoping to break 2:15 in my half marathon in November. My current best is 2:26. It's five six years since I've run a half, but I'm running stronger and longer than I used to, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.2 -
Congrats to @katharmonic on your PR in spite of your problems before the start and @BettyM1017 on your AG win.
Oct goal 120 miles
Oct 1.......11 miles.......MTD 11
Very happy with the run this morning. 50 degrees and low humidity. Had my second best time for 10K and set personal bests for 15k and 10 miles. I think I am going to like cool weather running.2 -
Hello everyone and happy October 1st! Back in the post-soviet countries today is a Teacher's Day - so anyone in a teaching related field - go wild!
@katharmonic congrats on PR! I love your smile in all those pictures
@BettyM1017 Awesome win! Good for you! Congratulations
@skippygirlsmom I cannot believe you went this long without food! If I don't eat anything for over 5 hours, my stomach lets me know about its existence in a super loud but rather embarrassing way
Had my first really chilly morning run. I think my body went into a temporary shock, because just few days ago it was close 90 degrees and humid. I got warm and comfy around mile two and the rest of the run was great!...Until I came home and realized I had earned some serious chaffing burns on my inner thighs...Ouchy, this had not happened in a very long time. I will need to invest in a different pair of compression pants. Ladies, any favorites?

First run of October ... may as well get the Strava HM challenge out of the way ...
13.3 miles on an absolutely gorgeous day. Almost crapped out around 11 miles but something told me to keep going so I could finish the challenge and not have to worry about it for the rest of the month.
My legs feel like bricks and my right achilles is not happy with me right now, even though I KT taped it for the run.
Oh well, it still feels good to complete another HM.
A big CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who raced this weekend. @BettyM1017, @katharmonic, and I even hear that someone got a BQ this weekend (shhhh... I ain't saying who but those who follow her on Strava know!).
October total so far = 13.1 / 100 miles9 -
It's OFFICIAL! She's registered! The countdown is on until my wife runs her first Half Marathon!11

I'm in for 130 this month. I have my marathon on the 14th so there is taper and recovery.3
-
10/1 6.41 miles
I had only planned on doing 4, but everything felt so great that I decided to see if I could do 10k. Anything to avoid homework, lol.
October goal - 6.4/60 miles4
