@skippygirlsmom Is that the Spooktacular 5K you're doing? Have fun! I'll be doing my last long run before my race. Rain? Yuck!

    @garygse , @fitoverfortymom , @ctlaws44 , and @cameronheel -- are we all Scorpios? What a great group we are! Any others?

    Interesting read regarding birth month...

"...A British study where 8,000 kids were measured at the same absolute age found that a kid born in November can typically “run at least 10 percent faster, jump 12 percent higher and is 15 percent more powerful than a child of exactly the same age born in April.”..."

    Unfortunately, I'm April.

I hit my 50 mile goal today almost a week early. I'm new at this so I wasn't sure what goal to set. Guess I'll increase that goal a bit next month.

Hitting it a week early means it was a good goal. You could probably safely go for 60 next month. Great job!

Hah! Well that explains why I was rubbish at the high jump when I was at school.

    April for the win.

Alas, I was born in October. I know if I don't pay attention it seems I can gain weight 50 percent faster than most people. Not the attribute most want tho.

@WandaVaughn yes the Spooktacular. I haven't run it in a few years, and it was my PR 5K. I remember being so surprised when I PR'd I saw @Stoshew71 standing there and I was like OMG OMG I PR'd, he just laughed. I'll be like 10 minutes slower. Gotta get my speed back on here soon. Come to think of it @Stoshew71 was standing there when I PR'd my HM too, he took a picture of me ringing the PR gong, must be my good luck charm

October running total to date – 120.90

    Nominal challenge goal: 100 miles

Real goals: Get healthy enough to run 5 days a week. Avoid re-injury. Build base.

Today's notes – Wednesday is normally a group run, but today that group is doing a Halloween themed scavenger hunt run. I'd rather run than do a scavenger hunt/puzzle with minor bits of running, so I set out for an easy run from home around 4 PM. Got ideal running weather, 55º F (13º C) with overcast skies and a pleasant westerly breeze. After yesterday's speed work, I wanted to pay attention to how hard I was running and keep this one easy.

I managed to stay in HR zone 1 or 2 the entire run. My HR did peak out at 140, the top of zone 2, near the top of the second little hill; I slowed down almost to a 10 minute pace briefly, and kept the HR out of zone X. Other than that, I was running pretty naturally, and with the ideal weather I had some time in zone 1 where my pace was closer to 7 than 8 minutes per mile. Stopped right when the watch autolapped the 7th mile, at 55:01 for an average pace of 7:51 per mile. Other than the fact that I barely made it to the rest room in time when I got done, it was a very pleasant run.

Thanks for cheers everyone on my family's race results! I need to get back to offer a few comments but totally swamped at work this week so reporting will have to do for now. At least I am checking in. Yesterday ran 4 mi and walked 1 mi (wimped out with the dark, rain, and cold and ran at the indoor track at the gym), today walked for an hour outside and did an intense stretching program and my PT. Need to get better about finding time for the PT exercises everyday! Had PT appointment for the foot and ankle yesterday (scraping, ultrasound, and H-wave) and for my hip tomorrow (probably some of the same) plus a follow up appointment with the sports doc tomorrow too. I was really on track for my 75 mi until last weekend and because of hosting the fun run didn't do my long run. Now it is going to be pushing it to get to my goal. Going to try to 5 or 6 tomorrow and see if it feels like I can push it until the end of the month.

    Day/Distance/Comments

10/1 5 mi (+ 1 mile walk) + serious stretch program (Gymnastic Bodies Front Split)
    10/2 Water walking
    10/3 3 mi + light yoga
    10/4 Walking + yoga
    10/5 3 mi + PT (scraping + treadmill + stretch + strength)
    10/6 Walking + PT (stretching + scraping + ultrasound + H-wave)
    10/7 4 mi (+ 1 mile walk) + yoga and PT moves
10/8 6 mi (+ 1 mile walk) + Gymnastic Bodies Front Split stretch routine + PT
10/9 3 mi slowish with youth XC team + 40 min water walking + PT
10/10 Walk for 45 min + PT moves
    10/11 Walk for 45 min + a little PT
    10/12 3.5 mi (+1 mi walk) + PT
    10/13 Walk for 45 min
10/14 Ran about 1 mi plus some walking
    10/15 Ran 4 mi + walked 1 mi + restorative yoga + PT
10/16 Ran 8 mi + walked 1 mi + Gymnastic Bodies Front Split stretch routine
10/17 Walked a lot marking trails for fun run
10/18 Ran 3 mi marking new trail for fun run in Strava
10/19 Walked a lot marking trail for fun run, did Yin Yoga class (with sandbags)
10/20 Walked over 10 mi marking trail for fun run
10/21 Ran 1st 5k in almost a year! Planted geocaches and hosted a party
10/22 Did some walking to fix geocaches + PT
    10/23 Water walking
10/24 Ran 4 mi on the indoor track + walked 1 mi
10/25 Walked for an hour + Gymnastic Bodies Front Split stretch routine + PT

    Goal: 75 mi
    Total: 50.5 mi
    To go: 24.5 mi
