Heather – You talk about so many ‘different’ foods than I am used to eating. Does the tandoori have curry in it? Isn’t curry a spice that are in a lot of Indian food? Sounds interesting; but, not sure I would make it; but, I did copy it just in case I want to do something totally off the wall for us.
Lanette – I think if I tried to put any sort of clothes on Cracker, she’d make sure that my husband would think I had gone off the deep end. Guess I should have started that when I first got her. I had wanted to get her clipped since she has a ‘broken’ coat; but, Louis told me to let it grow so she won’t be cold when she goes outside.
Allie – Do you like it better? I hope so, having them facing one another brings your eyes toward them and then accentuates the bed under it.
I could not find the library books I got the other day; but, Louis looked in the car and then told me he had already read one of them. RATS! I have been very lazy about reading. I have one that I borrowed from Tami, and I’ve got to make sure I finish it before the guys go out there in December. I doubt they will come for Thanksgiving, for 2 reasons. One, my DYS is still mad at DOS’s wife because of how she treated ‘his’ wife by texting her several times and getting angry because she did not get an immediate text back. So, I guess that means I am getting ‘snubbed’ because they aren’t going to be coming. Second, her shared custody make getting a long weekend in almost impossible. Her ‘ex’ went this way so he would not have to pay her as much C/S that had been ordered. I don’t know him, don’t care to; but, it makes us hard to have a ‘family’ Thanksgiving. Will has not been here for Thanksgiving since he and Tami got married. I understand; but it also makes me sad because I only get to see him once a year.
Why is your Dad so argumentative about you driving to Virginia? And why would you have to get an opinion from the DMV?
I have a couple of things that I have NOT been able to put my hands on since we moved out here.
A bummer
I smashed my middle finger with a hammer this morning. I wanted to cry. It has been growing really strange, sort of off to the side of where it normally goes and looks like the bed of the nail has been lifted a little bit. I’ve noticed the same on two other nails. I’ve always had ridges in them from the cuticle to the end. I’ve been pretty rough on my ‘digits’ this past month. Move a cabinet that I got from my Mother and Louis needs to do something to the bottom. I did hammer the bottom back up in place; but, when I put some linens that I don’t use that much in it, it dropped out again. He needs to use a tiny drill bit to start the hole because it is mahogany and very hard.
Washed all my kitchen cabinets and even the top of the refrigerator … I need to remember to dust it off whenever I am dusting the rest of the house. He need to fix that and take off the top to the tool box I use as a coffee table out on the porch and glue it and clamp it. I keep getting the ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ answer from him. IF the dishwasher is not working come Thanksgiving, the ‘guys are going to wash, dry, and put up all of them. Another day of nothing but ‘football’ and he is actually ‘reading’. Got to go over to see my 10-year-old all dressed up to go to her first school dance. This should be interesting!
Need to change out of my 'work clothes' into a pair of shorts and a T-shirt.

Lanette: We created the reflective vest so we could go for walks in the neighborhood after dark & hiking in the woods in daylight and protect our dog from injury. We worried about him becoming a target for hunters or being run over by a car whose driver couldn't see him. Some years ago a friend's Siberian Husky was shot and killed by a neighbor who claimed he thought it was a wolf, and I've read similar stories from friends on facebook. Those two things are really what motivated us to get a reflective vest on our dog. I know that hunters often have such vests for their gun dogs when they go out shooting. I've seen them online for horses, too, but have never seen one on a horse in person. I have seen photos of cows with the word "cow" painted on their sides in reflective paint. Many hunters are responsible and careful, but there also seems to be some gun happy idiots who fire at anything that moves in the bushes. :noway:
Rita: It is always good to see you post. You seem to be having a good time. :flowerforyou:
Wendy: My husband is an insulin dependent diabetic. (He also has MS.) His body stopped producing insulin back when he was in college, and he nearly died back then. He wound up with memory loss and couldn't remember his wife. They divorced. I met him after that. As I understand it, people with type two diabetes still produce insulin, but it is either not effective or there is not enough. There are pills that some take. A tiny proportion of type two diabetics are able to manage solely by their food choices. I've seen testimonials that weight loss has solved the issue for a few type two diabetics who are highly disciplined about what they eat and maintain their weight at an optimum level.
I went out to the stable to ride with a friend today. Arrow was not at his best, but he behaved better than yesterday & the day before yesterday. I am certainly learning a lot that I didn't know, and I'm humbled that his owner wants me to work with him. Any ancients that remember Hogan's Heroes will remember Sargent Shultz's often spoken words, "I know nothing." I feel like that every time I go to the stable to work with Arrow, but I'm keeping on with it anyway.

Janetr - I reread these every couple years, yes they get me through long dark winters. The Mitford books and the Alexander McCall Smith's Ladies Detective Agency books. Love traditionally built Precious Ramotswe.

Katla be proud of yourself for persevering through your horse problems. I truly believe that God uses horses to teach things to us humans so I am always learning from fresh situations that arise. My Horses, My Teachers. (That is actually the title of a wonderful book written by Alois Podhajsky who saved the Lippazzanner horses during the War.) Anyway, I thought I would send you this link to my very favourite horse training site where I learned so much that I have been able to take horses straight from the wild and tame them down into sweet riding horses. (While learning a huge lot about myself, life and horses in the process!) The site is: http://www.kbrhorse.net/pag/train.html

I am growing more accustom to my place and to my new neighbors.. my friend Bev came down an we polished off a bottle of white wine..and now I am sneezing to beat the band...I do admit I have a slight buzz, but will be going to sleep in a bit.. I know this is the right spot for me and I am happy to be here...9 -
Karla- when I was growing up on the form, we had Dobermans mainly. Later, I had a friend of a friend that had a golden. This dog needs with Sarge. This such a good well mannered dog, so obedient. I kept that dog food in my mind. On the fourth husband KIRBY, We decided we should get a puppy. Coming from California, we will not used to seeing squirrels so first pup was rocky. Out of all the pups we looked at he was the one that ignored us and he's the one that we got. I did all the training, he became a therapy dog, got his CGC cert. visited hospital patients, schools, old folks homes. 4 yrs later, a guy said her dog had pups but was not purebred, i called kirby, he said okay, so then came bullwinkle. They wee an awesome pair. She learned from him. Four years later it was a day b4 Father's Day so then came Floyd. Kirby's fathers name. Those were the 3 amigos. Rocky miss his 11th bday by a little we had him put down at home a day earlier than planned after he had a seizure, the other 2 kids were there. We skipped a year then came yogi, our first non golden. Goldens are awesome but high maintenance cuz of their long hair and constant brushing s and prone to hot spots and allergies. That's why I opted for a lab, shorter hair. Still shed as much but no matter. Wanted a white English lab (cuz kirby is white, then later a chocolate lab cuz I'm Hispanic) but no luck. Pups are so expensive now. Found yogi who was had an American lab for a mom and English for the dad. He has the face of an English that I love but is all personality of an American, wired for sound!
Now that we are closer to retirement and b moving into the airstream, we will b dwindling down to a 1 dog family. The next dog will be named booboo. Y? Cuz yogi was named yogi. Probably won't pay for purebreds anymore, I already had my dream dog and the was rocky6 -

Finally finished with my outside work. Today I fertilized all the flower beds then I scrubbed both sides of the screens on our patio. Next I scrubbed the patio floor. Everything is done so it can get cold now lol.
Unfortunately, I got poison ivy while planting down by the river. I am VERY allergic to it so it has broaden out all over my body.
Congrats on your job Rye. You did good to keep going on the application process.
Lisa-remember to take deep breaths as you go through the he next few weeks.
Machka- when we were in Syndny my DH ordered a hamburger and it was Hugh. It had beets, fried egg and all kinds of stuff on it. He just had to have one to try to see if he could eat it all.

Pip, thanks for sharing the backstory of your darling dogs. We have had three purebred dogs (Shilo, the Golden Retriever, and Brandy and Sasha, the Standard Poodles). After Brandy died, we decided that we were more a family of second chances and we sought a dog that needed a second chance and that's how we found Bessie who has become a delightful and loving part of our family.
Katla, I love hearing about your adventures with Arrow. What a great combination of physical and mental challenges.

Did an hour DVD with bands and weights. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Accellerated Body Sculpting DVD. I think this is mainly pilates
I don't know how to handle having company and they like high fat foods and eating later in the day. In a sense, I'm glad that Steve is gone. I'm just not into having rib eye for dinner and then lunch the next day. I was at the Green Room Thurs night and he and Vince went to 5 Guys for dinner. I know that he usually wakes up later so has a late lunch so he has dinner late. I am not crazy about eating late. Now I feel so much better since I can get back to healthy eating. How do others deal with this. Don't say something like "I tell people I only eat what's on my menu", that's not me.
Rori and Lisa - how do the Girl Scouts feel about the Boy Scouts allowing girls the join? Do you think they'll ever merge?
Rori - Santa Barbara looks wonderful! So glad you're having such a great time. Did you cut your hair? You look real nice in that picture.
Lisa - mountain property??? We're right at the foothills of the mountains so maybe, just maybe, you'll be in this area eventually. Oh, that would be so great! Well, we'll just give it time. I never knew about the Peterson's hernia! Thanks for informing me. Congrats on selling the trailer. Oh, I hope the warehouse sells. That'll be so much simpler for you.
KJ - horray, no more helmet for Joaquin!!!
Rye - big congrats on the job
Lanette - we're not far from Blowing Rock. What's up?
Lenora - so sorry about your finger
Becca - here's hoping only for the best for your hubby. Please keep us informed.
suebdew - I use this stuff called 'ivy block'. You buy it at the local pharmacy. You put it on before you go out, then wash it off when you are finished. It doesn't let the p.i. oil get on you, it blocks it from getting to you. Wonder if something like that will help you? You can ask the pharmacist if you'd still get a reaction.

Pip, I love the picture of your dogs where they are progressively laying down. Like they can't decide whether to be up or down and they are progressively going to sleep. Love the story of all your dogs. How I the world will you be a one dog family????
Kelly, hooray for no helmet. Can't wait to see a picture without it. He is so stinking cute with it. He could be a model! I didn't k ow the Girl Scouts had an equivalent to the Eagle Acout ranking. Yes, the article on the news was about a girl who had a brother that was an Eagle Schojt and she was so proud of him and wanted to be one also. I have never been part of the scouts, nor my girls, but I have always thought of eithe the boy or Girl Scouts as a time when they could discuss th Meg's among themselves that they wouldn't talk about with the opposite sex. And camp would be difficult with girls. I know the extreme camps my father in law took his Boy Scouts on. He had inner city kids his assistant were the only Dads these kids knew. I know times have changed and girls are encouraged to do all the rugged things the boys did. I know in this forum we like to talk about things we wouldn't talk about within a group of friends that had guys in it. That is how I have seen the scouts. I a, sure it will go thorough a growing phase as they learn how to allow the opposite sex within their groups.
I told Charlie one time that his Dad was a lot like my Dad. Mine a preacher and his a Boy Scout leader. They are a lot in common. I was so proud of my Dad and being with him in his role. But it was the opposite with Charlie. He resented the time that his Dad spent with the other kids. For that reason he hated being a Boy Scout. Our church had a program similar to scouts, I dot. K ow if they have it now or not.
Have a bit of diarrhea tonight. Hope it goes away befor church tomorrow. I took some medicine in addition to the routine medicine my doctor has me on to stop me up.
Take care everyone. Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow. Well for some of you I think you are already in our tomorrow!

Katla, sounds like you have your hands full! Hopefully DH will get his rear in gear, because you are absolutely right, he has to use it or he will lose it! My mom had MS, she never let it slow her down, she maybe should have slowed down a bit, but..... She fought it every step of the way!
Glad that Arrow behaved a bit for you today!
Janet, those decorations are just beautiful!
Allie, I figured cheating must have been involved, with people referring to Tom as Tomcat, it kinda made sense. So happy for you that you are done with that garbage, nobody deserves to be treated like that! Hopefully his lawyer will get "stuff" together so that you can be done with the whole business.
Suebdew, sure hope you have something for that poison ivy allergy! That's gotta be nasty!
Michele, so sorry to hear of your pastor's passing. Hope you can celebrate your anniversary in a special way that honours his memory also.
Okie, I will try the apple. I suspect the apples in my fridge are just as tasty as the oranges! Really need to get some staples, I keep getting sidetracked. Was going to stop at the store, well, did stop at one, but their produce isn't always the greatest, was going to go to another, but ran out of time. Tomorrow..... If not, Monday for sure! Lol
Kelly, Joaquin is just so cute! So happy for your good news about the end of helmet days, super great that his dad painted the fighting Irish man on it, certainly made it more fun, I'm sure. Sending good vibes to your hubby, hope he can find employment before too long. My hubby was let go many years ago, he was doing groundskeeping and janitorial at a private school when they decided to contract out the work instead of keeping their own staff. It was definitely hard to handle...... Things did work out for us, not quite the way we had planned, but at least he did find work after about 6 months, and it was a decent job, he was there for about 20 years.
Rye, congrats on the new job!
My day went well, busy at work today, so hardly had time to drool over the halloween candy! Lol Hubby wanted pizza for dinner, so I got him one, but got pasta for myself. As soon as I got home with it, I put half of it on my plate and just ignored the rest of it. I will use it for a lunch (or two!) this week. Sure did enjoy it! We don't eat out much, and don't do take out often either, so it really is a nice treat!
We moved into a brand new townhouse in June, and we didn't worry too much about the baseboard heaters as it was quite warm then. Also, we have a heat pump so were using the cooling feature. Now we have discovered that the two baseboard heaters that are on the main floor (powder room and entry way) don't work. Grrrr..... Another e-mail to be sent to the developer. Construction is just booming here, so there is a lack of tradespeople and everyone seems to be in a hurry. We thought we were doing okay, ours was one of the last to be finished and we weren't in a hurry, everything looked like it was done (some residents were missing drywall in some areas!), but we are finding stupid things like the heaters not working. Oh well, at least the heat pump works well! Lol
Really must to to bed, stupid alarm will be going off again in the morning.... Hope everyone has a great day!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island.

Katla - Sorry to hear that Arrow has been misbehaving. I Hope your DH is okay. Those falls are scary business. I do balance exercise all the time. I have terrible balance since my accident in 2000.
Good riding to you.
Carol - So far it is mental and verbal abuse. His anger seems to have really escalated in the last year though.
Wendy. - I loved seeing the Lippazzaner stallions perform their "Airs above earth". I would go tomorrow if they were near me.
Thank you all for your care and concern.
I have had a bit of a breather for the last 2 days as Larry went up to Edmonton. He will be back sometime tomorrow.
Yesterday I had my son and DD come over so we could have a talk. Some things were a surprise for them and some weren't. My DS told me he couldn't promise what he would do if his Dad lays a hand on me. My daughter is wondering how she works with her Dad on Monday as if nothing has changed. DD is having a really hard time dealing with this right now. Did I do them a disservice by protecting them for so long from how bad it really was? We will all get through this. It might not be pretty getting to the resolution but we will make it there. I was trying to decide whether to include my oldest brother in the close circle. My DSIL decided the matter for me when she asked if I actually believed he didn't have an inkling. Yes, the only person to have met "Jack" will not be surprised. "Jack" is an alternate personality who occasionally came out when Larry was in his drinking days. "Jack" is no one's idea of a good time. As I think back over our marriage I can not believe how many things I brushed under the rug.
I picked up Chico from our friends last night. He was very happy to see me. He will be hard for me to give up but he is Larry's dog. He snuggled right into me and it was impossible to even roll over. He does bring Joy, it is his only purpose in life.
Lots of crap continues to happen at work. My director will go to any length to justify the male manager's actions. Grrrr......not only is there drama with the staff now the cleaners are complaining about him. He can be rude and dismissive. Waiting for the HR interview. Probably Tues. as someone will be in our store for the National Hiring Day. I've been doing so much training that some every day paperwork is starting to pile up.
Greysyn came over today to do a few things for me. I think it was more to have hot chocolate and cookies with Grandma. He says "I like that it is just the 2 of us today, Grandma. Want me to tell you about how high school is going?" Yes, I did. He talked for about half an hour which is a long time for him these days. I like when my best bud reappears. How I love this funny, smart, charming, handsome grandson.
My sister arranged supper out with my cousin, cousin-in-law. It was a very nice evening. We talked about their trips, my niece's wedding and I was able to get away with out saying a whole lot. Just what the doctor ordered.
Have to work tomorrow. I hate working Sundays.
Have a good night all.

Well ladies, just arrived home after a 4 pm to 9 pm time at the ER. Husband has had a bout with indigestion for a couple of days. Then was sick on Thursday, but was feeling fairly good on Friday. Its amazing how quick your body changes when something just isn't right. He has been overly tired, which I thought was him getting over a cold. But he was running a fever today, so we went to the ER. Either I just didn't notice, or during our car ride, he turned jaundice. So its a road we've travelled before with his bile duct getting clogged. New liver connecting to old bile duct, they are each different gauge pipes! But its unsettling to say the least, to watch your husband go off in an ambulance, ( to OHSU, where his transplant was performed).
I made it home OK, but am not looking forward to driving by myself to OHSU. Dear husband is going to keep me abreast of surgery day etc, they will have to plan him in. My hope is that they can put a stent in keeping that duct open. They had told us back in June, that this sort of complication occurs periodically. We thought it would last longer than 4 months though.
Well its late, I'm tired. Think positive thoughts for my husband! Love you all!

Sunday --- A half-century training ride today. It was a lovely day with clear blue skies, lots of sunshine, wind ... there's always wind ... and warm temps. Yes, believe it or not! Warm temps down here in Tasmania! It hit actually hit 24C.
The ride was one of the flattest ones we could have planned in this area, with the exception of one climb in the middle. We decided to check out a loop at the end of the out-and-back ... it started quite nice, and then around a corner ... and UP! But we definitely chose the right direction on that loop. When we got to the top, we were faced with a steep descent ... so steep I paused for a moment at the top to collect myself before I plummeted down!
And the wind ... headwinds all the way out, tailwind partway back ... and then a switch and the sea breeze came in as a headwind at the end.
Distance: 81.2 km
Elevation: 684 m
Moving Time: 4:23:34
Elapsed Time: 5:07:15
Speed: Avg: 18.5 km/h | Max: 47.5 km/h
BTW - my husband rides with me, and is actually a little bit stronger than me. I don't know if I mentioned it, but he's 62 ... so he's an inspiration. I hope I'm still riding like this when I'm that age.

fanncy0626 wrote: »Machka ~ I am amazed at your hair. It is a beautiful color. I've never had long hair and I always wonder how you manage to get it suds up and rinsed. Is it difficult?
Thanks!
I like that colour too ... probably one of my more favourite ones. Not my natural colour.I've been dying my hair since I was about 16 ... and discovered, at some point in my 30s, that I had started to go grey.
Right now, my hair is quite dark underneath, then there's a middle layer of about that colour, and a blonde top layer.
It's actually really easy to take care of.
I hop in the shower each morning, and mainly focus on suds-ing my scalp and the hair within a few inches of my scalp and neck. When that is all well lathered up, I kind of roll the rest of it up onto the top of my head and kind of scrunch it to get some shampoo on it. I'm not too fussed about getting every little bit of the bottom part.
Mondays and Fridays I do two lots of shampoo. Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday I just do one.
Then I just stand under the shower to rinse it, and lift and move it a bit to get underneath.
That done, I get a big dollop of conditioner, and put that all over the bottom foot or so of my hair. Wait a minute or two, and rinse as before.
I'm actually not happy with my current conditioner. I used to use this particular brand of shampoo and conditioner, and then it seemed like they changed the formula so that the shampoo doesn't lather and the conditioner doesn't really work. I need quite a heavy conditioner ... something that sticks a bit. This one used to be like that, but is now so thin and light it feels like it comes off before I've even got it on. My hair is left so static-y. Today I had to use one of my spray conditioners at work to calm it down.
M in Oz
I would swear that picture of your back and Hair is actually a picture of mine! I feel the same way about conditioner and shampoo that you do. I have been using the same brand for over 20 years. I use TRIDESIGN 866-644-7373. I get it from my hairdresser. I would never use anything else.
I might have to see if I can get that brand down here.1
