Yvonne- I love your pets! Phineas is gorgeous! Pooka looks like a typical cat. Too cool for humans. Luna is adorable. KIki (why is she a pink peril?) and How did Six come by his name, Six, not Green Meanie (he must be a stinker).1

Happy Tuesday all. It’s another gorgeous fall day here with sunny skies and nice mid-70s temperature. We closed on rental #2 this morning, so hopefully all will go well when the buyers close the 1st. Our realtor is driving us nuts.
DD#1 is being induced today. No word yet, but last time it took about 11 hours, so I won’t worry. She doesn’t want anyone there. Or at least that’s what she says. I’ll be really angry if I find out OG (other grandmother) is there. The DDs are fighting over money; apparently #1 lent #2 money and #2 won’t pay her back. I wanted to say “Serves you right” because #1 has never paid #2 back for the money to buy her car. WHEW that confused me.
Yvonne: where in TX are you? I have relatives all over the place.
Terry: you both are so youthful!
Lanette: sounds like you are getting stronger!
Heather: sounds like DH had a hard younger life! Casablanca is my favorite movie. I even have a book that explains the historical events that happened on each day of the movie.
Allie: glad to see you are doing well
Michelle: thanks for the hugs. Some days I just feel like I’m cracking.
Joyce: when my dad had a bypass in ’81 he was totally stable and still spent 1 week in ICU and 1 week on the cardiac unit…that was the standard then around here. A few years ago I started doing cardiac clinical and their “hearts” come up on the ventilator right from OR, are extubated in 2-3 hours, and in the chair that afternoon. They go home on day 4 in the morning. What a difference!
Sharon: I agree about the bracelet. I have it on again today and feel calm and happy. Are you having the hurricane there? I saw it hit Ireland as a tropical storm. I guess I never realized that part of the world had such weather.
Beth: we should both book a tropical island get away…after hurricane season. Sending good thoughts your way.
Lovely pet photos as always!
Gotta run…Take care, Meg from lovely Omaha

Becca- I think you are the One that has found and posted several of these rocks in my second picture. I thought of you when I saw it!
Almost home! Then maybe we can Resume some form of normalcy!5 -
Hi Sisters, I have been flying about trying to keep all my balls in the air. Went for my long run yesterday, two and a half hours of bliss, listening to the essays of CS Lewis and laughing at his clever logic and sayings: Mare's nests and owl eggs...drove home in time to meet my students after school and ride for a couple of hours as well as trimmed Little Joe's hooves, wormed two horses and de-liced one. Then put dinner on, and while it was cooking on low, got into my bee suit and went out to do some hive work. I ate like a hippo last night, two slabs of white vienna (yes I am having an affair with it too!) fried in olive oil and rosemary, fish and veggies and 4 icecream sandwhiches (the whole box!) but didn't gain any weight. I am back in the 120's so the scale and I are on speaking terms atm. I managed to fast on Sunday and dropped off three ugly pounds in one day. That book by Jason Fung, The OBesity Code, states that fasting is the only way to re-set your weight. It sure is satisfying to have a big drop on the scales. Sometimes I can fast, sometimes I can't. Usually depends on my stress levels. Too much stress and I have to eat in order to cope.
So today I have queen making and then I need to take Major to the vet for his final puppy shot and to buy him a new collar as he is growing into a Great Big Beastie! I am going to the gym to work out tonight, hopefully with my oldest daughter.
Oh, and I looked at youtube at Maine Coone Cats walking. Those TAILS! and Tufted Elephant Ears. I have decided that sometime in the future when I have room in my cat world, I will be owned by one of these magnificent beauties!
Keeping all of you in my prayers for Courage, Faith and Wisdom. Wendy4 -
K J - Orkney is an island to the north of Scotland. It has large numbers of really ancient villages and ceremonial burial sites from the Bronze Age. (My passion) I have watched endless tv programmes on the place. We would have to fly to Glasgow and then onward, I think. The weather, obviously, is unpredictable and in the summer/early autumn the midge problem is daunting. I think the spring would be best.
Nowdays it seems remote and peripheral, but many thousands of years ago it was the centre of a huge culture which influenced Stonehenge. People must have travelled by boat to worship together from many hundreds of miles away. The stone tombs and ceremonial centres they built would have required much sophisticated planning and thousands of man hours.
DH is not nearly as keen as me, so I either go on my own, or drag him along.
I think I could get him to Montreal if it's for my 70th birthday in 2 years time. I am currently reading a detective novel set in the area and have read many others. One of my favourite films is Jesus of Montreal. Love anything with a French inheritance.

Yvonne, you have such cute pets. They are all so different.
Meg, too bad the girls are fighting. Don’t get involved and just let them figure it out. So what if the other grandmother is there. You will be the one that respected their wishes and didn’t butt in.
Wendy, slow down girl! You wear me out just hearing all you do. Congrats on the weight loss. With my low blood sugar I never could fast. I’d be in a dead faint on the floor.
Heather, I hope you get the trip you want and don’t have to wait until your 70.
Finishing up here at work and then heading home to take Tony to the vet.

Heather - I would love to see Orkney. The archeology there is fascinating, for sure, plus - we used to raise Shetland Sheep which are closely related to the Orkney sheep (naturally short tails that don't have to be docked - very hardy little things!) On my bucket list!
Beth - you must be living on adrenaline! I'd say you deserve a nice long vacation!! Sending warm thoughts your way!!
Yvonne - look at your housefull of "helpers". Cute furbabies! How is the remodel coming along?
Meg - hope the new baby arrives just fine and also hope stars align on the rental sales! I bet you are also running on adrenaline! WHEW! Is your DH fully on the mend now?
Kelly - I was just thinking the same thing about the older female movie stars. They've been carved and sculpted and tightened, for sure and they ARE Stepford sisters, lol. One of my favorite actresses is Helen Mirren -- I think she had a few things done but still looks lovely and mature. Um, don't bother calling the fundraising hotline and thinking you'll be talking to George Clooney. He'll be talking to ME!
Katla - thank you for the Apple Cider Vinegar info.
Wendy - your fasting idea is great and I'm hearing more and more nutrition experts recommending it. Have fun with the queens!
Pip - wonderful view of Tacoma! Is that a normal dog-walking route for your kids?
Mary - are you using Apple Cider Vinegar for Acid Reflux? Neat photo's! Shep looks like a good traveler. Are you almost home in MN or AZ now?
Rye - I've noticed if I eat wheat/gluten products and dairy for my evening meal, I am more prone to sinus headaches throughout the night.... now I'm starting to ponder the links between digestion, food, and sinus! Thank you for mentioning it, I think there's something to your theory!
Becca - any more updates on DH? I know you'll keep us posted
Terry - I want to transport myself to VT immediately and ride along on the trip to the vet with Tony. Want to see your spectacular scenery in person!!
Took puppy in to get her staples removed this morning ... she's now been cleared to resume her maniac schnauzer puppy activities. Hope that's the last of the vet visits for a long, long time!
That's the latest! Enjoying the wind and rain today!

no, not a normal route. that morning i was walking to the bus station to go to california and kirby wasn't going so he walked with me and took yogi3 -
Lanette - we are back home in Arizona! I use the Apple cider vinegar for feeding the good gut bacteria … I know that it works for acid reflux as well. When I started using the brags apple cider vinegar I researched it and one of the ladies on here was having acid reflux and it worked for her I think!2

Ladies, I fell into a bag of cheetos (a big bag) so so so so wrong. Anyway, I'll be back on track tomorrow. Have to drop off my car for a big repair, and Thursday I have an all day music conference which should be lots of fun.

Went for my bone density scan this morning. Having to wear clothes I don't normally wear and weathering a huge windstorm were offset by seeing a line dance friend in the waiting room and having Jake go with me and then go to the grocery store after. I am a fraction of an inch shorter than I was two years ago. The results of the scan will go to my doctor and she'll tell me about them.
Carol, I love retirement for many reasons including that I can be home when someone comes to make a delivery or do a repair. I found a new group of social contacts in my line dance classes.
Bernie is part Maine Coon and has a long bushy tail, uses head butts to show his affection, has tall ears, and is heavier than other cats I've had. I read a series of mysteries with a Maine Coon cat and the cat weighed 25 pounds.
Meg, sorry to hear that there is so much drama around the birth of your grandchild. I hope you can stay detached from it and just enjoy the child.

Another reason this group is so terrific - this has been a terrifically informative conversation about Nexium and GERD over the past few days.
I haven't watched PBS in a while, but several years ago there was a gal who theorized acid reflux was caused by the pyloric sphincter not opening because the stomach did not have enough acid in it. So we weren't thinking the process through and taking antacids made it worse. I have read taking a little vinegar in water stimulates the stomach emptying, but there are pros and cons to introducing more acid there.
Is she right? Not sure. I do know that I often feel food just "sits there" for a long time after I eat. I also never seem to get hungry, but my GI tract is otherwise working fine.
I have a book on natural medicine written by Michael Murray and Joseph Pizzorno, who started Bastyr Naturopathic college which trains a lot of the ND's in the Pacific Northwest.
The book discusses GERD and natural treatments. They mentioned something called D-Limonene which is made from citrus peels and stimulates the stomach emptying, and the treatment calls for one - 1000 mg capsule every other day for 20 days. I am intrigued so I ordered a bottle from Amazon ($10) and will see how that works.
And if things don't get better, I'll go back to the doc and see if she has something new up her sleeve.

SW WA State with rain clouds looming!
You can have a test done to track and time your digestive process. I had it done a couple years ago, and apparently my digestive processes are "normal" but just a bit on the slow side of normal. My mother has also had the test done and her digestive processes are a bit slow.

Lanette, Tony had a great checkup. While waiting I did find a tick on him. I'm always so careful to check our pets so was surprised to find it. Just looked down at him and saw it right below his left ear. Vet took it off for us. I'm the tick remover in the family as they freak my husband out. The joys of living in the woods. I attached a pic of Tony. Hopefully this shows right side up. I'll try to send some more fall pics.
Karen, cheetos with dip are my all time favorite comfort foods. Haven't had any since May but glance at them every time I'm at the store.
Barbie, hope your bone scan is fine. I hate waiting for test results.
Both feet have been bothering me the last few days. I think it may be because of all the walking I did on Saturday while shopping with DD.
Well time for bed and and my book. I read every night from about 8 to 11. Favorite time of the day. Day is over, nothing left to do, all by myself before DH comes to bed. Aahhh peace and quiet.

This is a cool thread. Feel free to add me. I've always got along well with sweet ladies. Keep it up gals!-2

Terry- Tony is one sharp looking dude! Rat Terrier? I can't tell how big he is. When I was a kid we had rat terriers on the farm... and they lived up to their name, lol.
Sorry to hear about that tick. We don't seem to have them out here, thank goodness!

Today, we moved our ‘house’ The Cuckoo’s Nest from Brantley Lake State Park near Carlsbad, New Mexico to Oliver Lee State Park near Amalagodoro New Mexico (near White Sands). This two and ½ hour trip took us through the Green Mountains of New Mexico and its only ski resort in Cloudscroft. We went from 3400 feet above sea level through the high of 9,000 feet above sea level to our stopping place of 4300 feet above sea level. Went from desert, through a national forest full of trees (Pondorosa pines), back to White Sands and desert scene. These mountains are a part of the Rocky Mountain Range. When we parked, we found one of our side windows has shattered on the inside. Too late to get fixed today so major goal for tomorrow. Always exciting when we move!
Rita now in Oliver Lee State Park near Alamogordo New Mexico.

Did 1 hr workout on the bosu today. The plan for tomorrow is to take the deep water class.
Welcome everyone new! That's you katrss And you birdiepeeps. We're so glad to have you.
Joyce - I'm not sure I could make ornaments like Janet, either. Too tedious. Yet, some things I don't mind tedious. I just don't think I could do it. I certainly don't have the imagination to design them, that's for sure. How nice of you to go see your friend, I'm sure he's very concerned
M - was there a specific reason you decided to study Spanish or just for the knowledge? Good luck to you both.
KJ - A while ago Mary suggested to me that when I do my plank, I add a minute or so and eventually I will get my time up. It's worked!
KJ- I don't think much of botox unless you have a medical need for it (migraines, disfigurement, etc). To me, what you see is what you get. If God had wanted me any different, He would have made me that way.
Had a chin wax (never had one before, never even knew there was such a thing) for Denise's wedding and a brow tint (never knew that existed, either). I figure the day before we leave I'll go get a mani/pedi. I really wanted it done by the local college students, but they're not doing anything until after their semester so nothing from them until Jan. Another reason is because it's cheaper (I told you I was a cheapskate <about some things>). Got a sweater at the Salvation Army yesterday that will match my gown. Hey, why spend lots of money on a sweater that I'll probably wear only once and really no one will see?
Mary - welcome back home!
Allie - I love reading about how happy you are right now. It will only get better and better.
Went to Rummikub tonight. Just had cheddar cheese and some of the hummus veggie bites I took. Only water to drink. I was surprised they broke up so early, but that's OK

Twilight time here – it’s so nice to just unwind at the end of the day.
KJ – There might be a minor procedure or two I’d go for if money weren’t an object, but I don’t see the point in trying to turn back the clock. I wouldn’t mind getting rid of my little double chin – I’ve had it since I was a baby, and it’s always bothered me. You’re right, some of those Hollywood women looked better natural. As for the critters, I do love them. Kiki is kind of like a fluffy pink buzz saw… she’s fearless, and even the dogs run from her. But she’s really sweet and she has the most adorable little pink cartoon voice. And Six – the moody one – was banded with the number six at the breeder even though she was the fifth hatchling. The breeder just ran out of number 5 leg bands. So Six is officially Six of Five.
Meg – I’m in Taylor, just northeast of Austin. My family are in Houston, and most of our friends are in Houston, Austin, or College Station.
Fanncy – That’s a beautiful shepherd!
Lanette – I think I’m going to have to kick Philip out of the house before I can get his studio space painted. Or maybe I’ll just wake up one morning and tell him to put on his scrubby clothes because we’re going to paint! I get it that he wants to spend his spare time relaxing after commuting back and forth to Austin, but it’s hard work to be self employed. If he's serious about setting up a practice here and ending the commute, then he’s going to have to make some sacrifices.
Karen – My sympathies! I love Cheetos. Fritos, too. Can’t eat just one. I’m sure in the overall scheme of things it was just a blip on the radar!
Rita – Have you ever been down in southwest New Mexico, like Lordsburg and Glenwood? It’s gorgeous. There’s a really cool camping spot down that way called City of Rocks. There are all these huge natural obelisks. I like Valley of Fires too… almost like a lunar landscape!
I've done my best to make up for my dietary sins this weekend. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow. I've been stalled and need to start making downward progress again!
Hope you’re all safe and snug.

Mary, cool rock pic! Yes I'm the rock poster, but I haven't really hunted for a bit!
Well ladies, I drove Monday night to the hospital, and had dinner with dear husband. He ordered me the fish dinner, and he had the corn, salad, and brownie. I had driven to the food bank on Monday as well, so I brought two slabs of sourdough bread that I had gotten there. He asked for pats of butter for that. His procedure went fine, however the doctor could only fit two stents in his bile ducts. Back in June she had removed three that were placed in, so his duct has shrunk in size abit. Which probably was the reason for the jaundice issue. This stent will stay in until January. The transplant team are going to have a pow-wow on what to do regarding him in the upcoming weeks. You can't really stent forever, its just dangerous for your innards especially your pancreas! Learning that is one sensitive organ. One option is to have surgery that cuts the connection that has all the scarring, then then use the new liver's bile duct and place that directly to the bowels. Its of course major surgery, and there is a 25% chance of pancreatic issues. Also his abdominal muscle is cut a bit, which makes recovery long and arduous.
The plan of going to Whidbey island, now has some major hiccups. If the doctor decide on stents for the next year, when we could possibly do that at the University medical hospital in Washington. If we do the surgery, then it will be in Portland at OHSU, no question. No moving. Realities are the priorities. We shall take this one day at a time. Hugs ladies!

Oooo, if a Maine Coon Cat holds his tail straight up; maybe my "Tux" has some MCC in him, too. He holds his tail straight up, with just a hook at the end of it. All the time ... if he is 'up' that tail is also 'up'.
Decided I'd just read for a while and not attempt to comment ... so far behind it isn't even funny.
