Chris, Sharon - So sorry to hear of all the aggro you are going through. :s:#:o Hope you can both turn it round and find your way to brighter shores. <3

Beth - So glad things seem to be going better for the baby.

Two wins today! I'm reading a new book on habits (yes - yet another improving book! ) and I used some of its insights to kickstart my writing. :D Managed to get a crucial bit written this morning that I've been putting off for months. :drinker: I feel very relieved and pleased with myself. It's been quite a while - since before the cruise. :o

Second win was I finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself! I was dreading it. And .....drum roll ..... I didn't put on any weight during the holiday! !!!! :drinker: I might even have lost an ounce or two. Double wow!
I still have to shave off the extra two pounds above maintenance, but I know I can do it.

Poor DH got into a terrible argument with the house insurance agents just now. It happens every year when they send the renewal quote. They are supposed to find you the cheapest quote, but never do, so you have to ring them up in order for them to give you the discount. He always gets furious and tells them what he thinks of their bad practice. This time the woman on the phone was arguing with him, which is bad practice in itself. He did get a discount, but it was very wearing for him. <3

I managed to get DH to agree to a lunch out next week for his birthday at our very favourite gastro pub. It is 20 mins drive away, so, as part of his present, I said I would pay for a taxi both ways. They do mussels and scallops for me and lamb and game for him, so I hope we will both enjoy it and the taxi means we can have a glass of champagne. :D

Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

LOL! I have lots of pics of the smiling wonder boy, but zero with me in them! Ah well. It must be noted: I did a fair share of dancing, jumping around, clapping my hands, waving my arms and singing to get him to smile, laugh, look at me, etc. I spent tons of time on the floor with him and being goofy. I am sure, if I were a dog, I would have left puddles of excitement and happiness on the floor. (Good thing my bladder is in good shape)
Chris- So sorry to hear about your job and your financial troubles. Hang in there! I am in that boat with you and it is SO hard to not get pessimistic. Do a little networking with your friends and acquaintances. See if they know of any jobs opening up that may suit you. Just put that word out there that you are looking. Thinking of you my friend!
Rye- Are you having night sweats? I went through that. I would always head for my basement and sit on the cold cement. I am so glad those days are behind me. I still think menopause has messed with my internal thermostat. I tend to be hot more than cold, now. And DH tends to be cold, whereas he used to be the guy in gym shorts and tees in the winter. Hormones are weird.
Heather- I am laughing at your shopping cart of alcohol! Holidays in my family involved a lot of that! Not so much any more. Although I did come home from TX to a nice bottle of wine from DH. It was a moscato. Which I don't normally get due to the sweetness. But I was touched and had no problem having a glass or two.
Meg and Sharon- You both are in my thoughts daily! Sending love and hugs to you! (((( <3 ))))
Lanette- Sorry! No pictures of Sting and I together with our coffee! He remains a figment in my dreams. That would be a great book title; "Coffee with Sting and other adventures of my alternate reality"!
Pip- I think many of us suffer or suffered from a lack of confidence in ourselves. My DD is always stunned by my lack of self confidence. I just think, like many women, I am a great cheerleader for others. I believe in the abilities and skills of others. I just don't trust myself sometimes. As I get older, I think I am getting better at believing in myself. Love and hugs to you!

Kids are clamoring for a walk. Off we go! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

    Happy Thursday!

Chris, if you can’t share here where can you share. This is a safe, supportive group. Sorry to hear about your co-worker and the overtime. That is so unfair to work so much and still not be able to pay for your bills. I’m assuming you are an exempt employee and that’s why you are not getting paid for overtime? Being in HR my advice is document, document, document everything that happens/overtime/conversations. Keep a little notebook where you can take notes so you don’t forget anything or send yourself e-mails (from home, don’t use work e-mail or do it from work!). E-mails will date stamp thing you write. Does your work have an EAP(Employee Assistance Program) program? If it does it is free and you could have a free consultation with a lawyer. Also NETWORK! Check with the heating company and you may qualify for assistance. I’ll send good thoughts your way for a new better job. (((HUGS))) <3

Machka, no I don’t have a Flickr account. I was able to load pictures with the directions I got. Thanks. I took CPR years ago at work. I’ve been suggesting to our wellness coordinator to do it again. Congrats on the long walk! :) It must feel good.

Wendy, that is so interesting about how your hormones affect weight loss. I’ll have to check that out and see what I can incorporate into my plan. Good luck with the queens bees. I guess that makes you the head queen?

DJ, I think I’m going to try the push-ups. That’s something that I can so anywhere and won’t bother my foot.

Michele, I’m exhausted just reading about your running around! PHEW!

Linda, Glad you decided to post. Pop in any time. Phone Puzzles? Never heard of that. Can you elaborate? I had a co-worker that like to just smell the foods she couldn’t eat.

Becca, don’t know that I could go without washing my hair every day. Interesting to learn about. Glad it works for you.

Janet, sorry to hear your meds have not arrived. I hope they come quickly and you can feel better. Try screaming into a pillow. That works for me sometimes. ((HUGS))

Joyce, could you have some water at your feet and bend over and sip from a straw?

Rye, I think a cold bathroom floor is the perfect place to keep cool. I say what works for you, go for it. I know when I’m hot and I stand on my tiled kitchen floor it helps. Also cool your head and wrists. I run cold water over my wrists.

Sharon, you are STRESSED girl! Take some deep breaths. My suggestion is to tackle one thing at a time. Time to withdraw from the family drama and focus on you and what you want. That’s stressful enough. I think everything will fall into place (may not be the place you want but you can only control yourself and your reactions) once you are working on what you can work on. Take control of your own life and make decisions that are best for you. Everyone else is an adult and it is their responsibility to take care of themselves, not yours. Go for the passport is that is your gut feeling. That would be taking control of what you can. Do you really feel Larry will change or are wishing he would?

Kate, good luck at DH’s dr appt. ((HUGS))

NYKaren, pasta is a comfort food for me too. Hope you get relief soon. Look on line for pt for your hands. How are your leaves this year? I don't think our are as bright.

Kelly, Joaquin is adorable. The girls are going to love those eyes! I’d count the jumping, dancing and clapping as exercise. I think you should write that Sting book.

Heather, 2 WINS! WOW! :) I hate to try and work with people on the phone. You want to reach right through the phone and wring their necks. Glad in the end he got a discount. Enjoy the b-day lunch.

Back to work, Terry in VT

    Good evening Ladies.

It was a tough afternoon for me. My favorite coworker told me this afternoon that he found another job. My emotions must have been written all over my face because he told me not to cry. He is a wonderful young family man of 40 and I call him my "work son". I will miss him terribly, we work very closely together in fact sharing a cubicle. Although I am so happy for him I am selfishly wishing he would stay because with him leaving they will probably have me on call 2 weeks of the month without pay instead of 1 and working 2 weekends a month instead of 1. That will amount to over 1100 hours per year that I will work and not get paid for. I am so upset. I came home and worked the elliptical HARD.

Say prayers that I find a new job soon, I am making less money than when I started and cannot meet my financial obligations, this week the mortgage was due and I had no money for groceries. This is what is keeping me up nights. A part time job to supplement my income is not feasible because of these on call hours. I have cut back expenses in every conceivable way. I dread the cold weather because I have no idea where I will get the money for oil. We did not put the air conditioners in the bedrooms this summer because I couldn't afford the added electric expense. I have not shared any of my troubles before, but it is helping to just let it out.

    Love and hugs to everyone.

    Chris in MA

Chris ((((HUGS)))))! Lots of good advice here on documenting, checking for assistance on energy bills (here in WA State there are a lot of them, Love Inc is one that will help pay bills if a person is in a financial difficulty. They might be in your area?) And yes, network and see if your "work son" has connections.

I am wondering if your employer will really be in a bind now that your co-worker is gone....what if YOU would leave? Do you work for a national company or is this a local concern and are there more co-workers in the same situation? Guess what I'm saying is.... if your employer is in a pinch, it might be time to lay the cards on the table. Though it is always risky. And, that is, if you really like the job and want to keep it or if it's just a means of getting income.

Also, are there any Home Depot's or Lowe's close by? It's hard to go into retail when a person hasn't worked it (if that's not what you are doing now), but might be something to at least look at just for fun and see what they have going on. I think they give some benefits.

If there are other members in your household, can they help?

I've often thought if something happens to DH I would check out offering a room as an "AirBNB" as long as I am still at this place. I don't think I could do a roommate on a permanent basis, but having someone here who has been thoroughly vetted (I understand they do a good job at that) for a few days each month would help in costs.

When I was working for the county and promoted to manager, they decided not to fill my empty position as Admin Assistant for MONTHS! Many, many 12-14 hr days, not compensated since I was now salaried. I called the state about filing a complaint. They said I could... BUT off the record, I would also risk losing my job. So disgusting...I know if they'd had a man in the Manager position, he would have had a secretary in no time flat. And why have the flippin laws on the books if they aren't enforceable and the worker is at risk for mentioning it? POO!!!

Anyhow, hang in there and keep us posted. You have a lot of amazing skills and would certainly be an attribute wherever you end up.

    Today is World Sight Day.

"World Sight Day is a special annual day of awareness that is celebrated around the world each year in order to focus on blindness and vision impairment. This day was created by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and awareness is spread through a large number of different events."

Pip - What a gift to find that kind of love twice!

Beth - That's great news about the twins!

Chris - I'm sorry to hear you're losing your favorite co-worker. Sending good job vibes your way!

DJ - I need to do the push-ups too. I suspect I could barely do one regular push-up but I could sure do a few modified ones in the kitchen while I'm waiting for things to boil!

Machka - Interesting... Philip and I recertified in CPR when he was going full-time as a massage therapist, and they were still teaching rescue breathing.

Kate - I hope your husband's specialist visit is just a precaution!

KJ - Joaquin is SUCH a cutie!

I'm grateful for my eyesight. Books have taken me so many new places and opened my mind to so many new ideas... I'm not sure how I'd stay sane if I couldn't read.

Kelly OMG Joaquin is so stinkin' cute! Delish!

Chris MA I think I missed what kind of work you do and why you have to be on unpaid call. Sorry you are in that situation. I do hope you find new work. What are you best qualified for? Hope you win the lottery. ;)

Just got off the phone w/my stepdaughter in California - Olivia is fussy and has a fever from getting her immunizations yesterday, and Olivia's mom & dad were a little worried. Thank goodness they are getting immunizations! There is still so much misinformation out there about vaccines.

So here's the plan. To not wash my hair, therefore slowing down my oil production. Hey people have only started shampooing their hair with shampoo since the 1930's.

My husband hasn't used shampoo for over two years. Even after heavy sweating work and Scuba diving in sea water. He just rinses very thoroughly and once a week he uses a nickel sized dollop of conditioner. His hair is always soft clean and smells good. And never oily.

I’m a visual artist, an avid reader, and most of my employment in my life has been centered around my computer skills. I truly don’t know who I’d be without my eyesight. I’m also blind in one eye and have been since birth. World sight day has special meaning to me. Thank you for telling us!

KJ - I almost missed your photos of Joaquin. :o Thank goodness others commented on his lovely happy face and I could go back and look for him. <3

Kate UK - Hope everything is ok and they are just being efficient. My ex husband invented a robot to do prostate operations. It used to practice on a potato. :o Apparently it was the nearest texture. The robot did work. :D

    Beautiful weather here today.

Question ladies. ... This is something I have done at restaurants. So you are busy socializing, having a good time, and there are things on your plate, you are nibbling on yet you shouldn't, but you don't want to take item home. (Wow way to make the longest sentence ever Becca!). Well what I do is make it not taste good. Maybe sprinkle pepper on it, or a packet of sugar! Is that weird or what?? Do you all do that sometimes?

Yvonne, story is so important to me, I don't think I'd want to live without access to stories. I do comfort myself that if one day I go blind, I can at least listen to audio books. I am also a budding author and spend a lot of time working on my own stories, which are wildly imaginative.

    Kelly
Joaquin looks like the kind of person I would like to go have fun with! He reminds me of the Charlie Brown characters, that round face, those bright bright eyes!

Katla I know that if I couldn't care for my horses due to emergency health problems, I would be so relieved to have a friend who could help out. You are doing a good service and you will benefit in return, the more time you spend with Arrow.

Chris Sweetie, I feel for you! It's like your in a trap and you can't get see any way out, but your co-worker got out, so hold onto your faith, there is a way out and you WILL find it!

Rye What do you take to help control your hormonal symptoms? I used to have some "too hot" episodes at night usually, but now that I take natural herbal hormone balancers I'm good. What a relief! I take Go Meno Free, which is a combo of herbs (Motherwort, Rehmannia, Red Clover, Sage, Shatavari, Withania, Zizyphus, Black Cohosh, Dong Quai and Kudzu.) as well as two daily of Dong Quai, two of Ginseng, and one evening primrose. I also use a progesterone cream daily. In addition, I drink organic soy milk and add rosemary and dill to my meals. I used to think soy milk was bad as I'd heard so much conflicting info, but Roxy Dillon's wonderful book Bio Young, convinced me that there are different types of Eostrogen and organic soy milk is of the good non-cancer type.

BECCA My daughter tried the no-shampoo method. She has long dark hair. She tried for at least six months, maybe a year. Her hair looked awful during that time and she has finally gone back to shampooing and looks good again, so I guess it doesn't work for everyone, but it might work for you depending on how much oil your body produces maybe.

Yes, that's what my hubby teasingly calls me, The Queen Bee. I managed to get stung again in the hand yesterday when I was putting on my suit after a bathroom break. The stinger was one of many in my suit that just stuck me, so it only throbbed for a few seconds. My suit is all one piece, so when I need to use the loo I have to take off the hood, top and pants. Makes me wish I was built like a man and could just pull out the plumbing, lol.It is hot work and I get thirsty and dehydrated if I don't drink. I'm glad I do my work at home and not out in the farms and bush where the main hives are. At least I can try to get most of the bees off my suit before I disrobe. I am just going out this morning to get a queen cell out to put in the incubator. It's always a worry that they might hatch before I get them into the incubator. Or that I might break the cell open while I'm taking it off the frame. THey are fragile things. Every cell is so precious!

Well, after I take that cell out this morning, I am loading up the horse float with Mani and Esmerelda and heading to the nearest beach, which is a ten minute drive. It is looking grey out there! I hope we don't get soaked to the skin like last time! Better get moving. I have to feed all the horses, dogs, cats and chickens first which takes about 40 minutes and around 6000 to 8000 steps walking around the farm, according to my bracelet thing. Its a great way to get my exercise without even thinking about it, and I am carrying buckets and hay.

Hi all: I went this morning to buy some alfalfa for our little goats. They get a little every day with their grass hay until they are full grown, then they will get only grass hay and treats for training. Yesterday my crazy Arab mare pushed open the barn door while I was putting hay out and got out into the yard. She of course took the other mare with her. Suni just went across the driveway and stopped to eat but Ruby went running all over the place. At one point she ran down the driveway and I was afraid she would run into the road. Right now we have large construction trucks coming around our corner quite fast. Luckily she stopped to see the goats and then ran through the gate to the front pasture and I was able to shut her in. Whew! That got my heart rate up. Food is going well but I am getting down to the last of my wild blackberries.

Karen in VA- I found the transition to maintenance very difficult with the Optifast program. The program food lets you lose weight quickly but does not teach you how to eat. Most of the food is sweet so you don't learn how to get away from sugar and that is a problem for me. Even with help from a dietitian I gained about 1/2 of the weight I lost back in about 2 years. The statistics show that over 90% of people who participate in their program gain the weight back. The hospital where I participated in the program has since discontinued it.

Becca - Nice grocery list. Good luck with the hair experiment.

Chris - Sending good thoughts for a new job. Hang in there.

Sharon - I think the advice to take care of you is good. That is all you really have control over.

KJ - My that boy is a charmer! Love that smile and those eyes.

Everyone take care, Sue in WA
