Terry & Wendy: Arrow was a jerk today. On the plus side, he did canter on both leads when asked. On the minus side he was very disrespectful and bucked several times. Turns out I can sit both bucking and cantering just fine, although it is aggravating for him to be repeatedly disrespectful and buck. I have instructions from my teacher on how to deal with him next time, which will likely be tomorrow if DH is doing okay then. :grumble:

Rita: It is good to hear from you and wonderful to know that you are having a great time. I hope you'll post often.

Allie: It looks like Tom is about to come face to face with reality. Stay strong. :flowerforyou: I love the photos of your new home. I like the colors, furniture placement, and herons on the bedroom wall.

SueBDew: I agree with Janetr. I hope you'll get right in to the doctor for a checkup. I'm adding my prayers to hers. (((HUGS)))

    Felicia: (((HUGS)))

M in Oz & Heather: Like both of you, I am careful in choosing my food at restaurants. I prefer places that have calorie and nutrition information available, but occasionally need to guestimate. I tend to eat lean protein, veggies, and salads with dressing on the side. I am not a fan of carbs and tend to go very light there, sometimes skipping them altogether. :flowerforyou:

This has been a troubling evening. DH fell in the kitchen and it took quite a while to get him back on his feet. He tried to use one of our barstools as a stability post to open the cupboard and stoop down to get something off of a shelf. The barstool tipped over with him. He went upstairs to bed after that. I'm worried, but can't quite figure out how worried I should be. I guess we'll see how things are in the morning.

Allie - Your condo looks just perfect! Love the colours; they are a bit like mine. Very restful. <3

I love having shoulder length hair. I've always had it about that length. It feels like a big part of my identity. B) When I lost ALL my hair through chemo I was devastated. It was the worst thing about having cancer. Luckily it does grow back, but I did feel like myself until I'd got my locks back. I feel it makes me look a bit younger as well. :blushing:

Katla oh goodness, so sorry to hear of the incident with your husband. These things are concerning at this age and especially with his medical history. Please keep up posted.

You tell Arrow he'd better behave tomorrow or he'll have me to deal with me !!! Ha! I'm pretty much afraid of horses, cows, pigs, goats anything on a farm I guess. Totally city slicker and most likely to remain that way at this stage of my life :)

Praying for you and your hubby that things are much improved in the morning. <3

The weeks lately are just flying by!! I feel like I crawl out of bed on Monday morning ... and next thing I know I'm looking at my computer clock at work on Friday evening wondering where on earth the week went!

This week has been full of work and study and heaps of walking.

Tomorrow there will be some cycling, but tonight, we went to the Big Bike Film Night!! Impressive! It's a collection of 13 short films relating to cycling that we'd happily see again. Quite a variety of different perspectives and well done too.

Machka ~ I am amazed at your hair. It is a beautiful color. I've never had long hair and I always wonder how you manage to get it suds up and rinsed. Is it difficult?

Alison ~ The colors of your home are so pretty and restful. Everything looks so clean. I do agree with Lenora that you need to lower the pictures and mirror.

Katla ~ Prayers said for your husband. Mine has gained so much weight since he quit smoking that he can hardly get up from sitting and almost impossible if he has to go down on his knees.

Sharon ~ Glad that you are getting help through this troublesome time. Is your husband physically abusive or just mentally? My mom put up with my dad's physical abuse for 37 years and then divorced him when he wouldn't give up on the affair he had with an employee.

My heart goes out to all the fire victims in California. I hope our Kim is safe.

Lisa ~ How exciting for you and Corey to move East. I think you will love the change in climate and the scenery. It is great that you will continue to be able to work with the Girl Scouts.

    Thanks! :)

I like that colour too ... probably one of my more favourite ones. Not my natural colour. I've been dying my hair since I was about 16 ... and discovered, at some point in my 30s, that I had started to go grey.

Right now, my hair is quite dark underneath, then there's a middle layer of about that colour, and a blonde top layer.

It's actually really easy to take care of.

I hop in the shower each morning, and mainly focus on suds-ing my scalp and the hair within a few inches of my scalp and neck. When that is all well lathered up, I kind of roll the rest of it up onto the top of my head and kind of scrunch it to get some shampoo on it. I'm not too fussed about getting every little bit of the bottom part.

Mondays and Fridays I do two lots of shampoo. Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday I just do one.

Then I just stand under the shower to rinse it, and lift and move it a bit to get underneath.

That done, I get a big dollop of conditioner, and put that all over the bottom foot or so of my hair. Wait a minute or two, and rinse as before.

I'm actually not happy with my current conditioner. I used to use this particular brand of shampoo and conditioner, and then it seemed like they changed the formula so that the shampoo doesn't lather and the conditioner doesn't really work. I need quite a heavy conditioner ... something that sticks a bit. This one used to be like that, but is now so thin and light it feels like it comes off before I've even got it on. My hair is left so static-y. Today I had to use one of my spray conditioners at work to calm it down.

Wendy & Machka Are these night sweats? They are just the same hot flashes I have 24/7 so I call them hot flashes. I’m pretty sure the other thing (the 4 or 5 times a year max and usually when I’m not spending the night at home) are an environmentall (humidity) adjustment my body makes, that heat is a slow build and I don’t sweat. As for what I do about hot flashes? Well, it feels like I have tried every non HRT remedy known to humans - nothing seems to make the least little difference. The hot flashes still come 20 to 30 a day and make me very miserable.

Well, the evening primrose oil ( or the weight loss) may have helped a tiny bit - the duration of the hot flashes in the spring could easily be 5 to 10 minutes. Now I only get a longer one of 5 minutes or so a couple times a day. The panic and claustrophobia which can accompany the flashes has also gotten better in the last three months. Not gone, certainly but not as overwhelming. But I still get multiple hot flashes an hour and they still wake me up many times a night.

The Dr. doesn’t want (nor do I) HRT but had no suggestions beyond ‘lose weight’. I’m pretty sure I have tried everything except the frozen grapes Michelle mentioned and have devised a few strategies if my own to cope. But, quite frankly, I feel like I’m being tortured and have felt awful for months. Our financial situation being what it is, no more Dr. visits this year, so before I go again next year, I’ll have to be prepared with lots of questions and options. Even then, I doubt my Dr will bother much. (My lifelong past experiences with Dr’s is very much negative anyway - unless I have an obvious and well defined need (like a wound or ear infection) Dr’s visits have been a total waste of my time which results only in expense and frustration not medical care. My experience only - not making broader assumptions or maligning any Dr’s other than those who have treated ‘or not treated, as it where’ me, ladies.)

Well, I guess that is just more incentive to eat and be as healthy as I can, work on my fitness and exercise as much as I can stand: so that I don’t have anything to talk to a Dr about anyway.

Rye, admittedly grumpy from a second night in a row of interrupted sleep.

I would swear that picture of your back and Hair is actually a picture of mine! I feel the same way about conditioner and shampoo that you do. I have been using the same brand for over 20 years. I use TRIDESIGN 866-644-7373. I get it from my hairdresser. I would never use anything else.

Night sweats and hot flashes are the same thing, I think ... it's just that one wakes you up in the middle of the night in a pool of sweat, and the other leaves you dripping in the middle of the day.

What you are experiencing could be a variation of night sweats ... both night sweats and hot flashes can be brought on by stress. So if you're feeling stress by being in a different environment, that could be a trigger.

For a while in my very early 40s, I'd go into a massive nauseating hot flash right in the middle of final exams. These were big university final exams in huge exam halls. I shed every layer I was wearing but a tank top (and wanted to get rid of that too!), then finally got up and went to one of the examiners and asked to go to the toilet. I had to be escorted, and when I got there, I just stood there running my hands and wrists under cold water ... then explained to my escort that I was in the midst of a massive hot flash. Fortunately she looked to be in her late 40s/early 50s ... and understood completely!!

    Hi all,

Sharon, please do everything you were told to do to be safe. Things can get out of hand quickly so be prepared at all times. Also carry the information in your purse so you can grab it and go. Also I suggest you have the shelter's phone number programmed into your phone. If you never need it great, but if you do, you will be prepared.

Allie, love the pictures of your place. It looks so pretty and a great place to relax. Now we can picture you there when we read you're posts.

Machka, your hair is beautiful. As you can see by this picture, mine is short, gray and thin. Getting it cut tomorrow as it is over my ears a little.
