@fitoverfortymom it definitely wouldn't be for a couple years but I'll let you know. My ideal scenario big American plans for 2019 would be WS100 if I made it through the lottery and Pigtails 200 Miler in WA.

We hit a deer in our other car last night. The good car Waiting to find out if it's totaled.
I'm sure I'll run later but curling up and watching movies sure sounds better.
I sure *hope* you totaled that deer! Oh, you mean the car? Shame about that. I lost a car to a suicide attack by Bambi's mother in 2004; it took me years to get over jumping at shadows when driving at dusk.0 -

Welcome to the group!
Just curious, what would you have classified your as? Cuz 200 mpm is the work of A LOT of trainin'.
Not that lables are important here... Or anywhere
I never ran until I was 45 years old. Now, it is all I want to do. I started MFP with weightloss in mind and was walking all the time. One day someone asked if I was I a runner. I was emphatic and stated 'no.' Later in the day, I thought about it more and decided 'why not?' Started running in April 2016 and have not stopped since. I have run four races to date, with the thought that I was not good enough, but my times appear to be 'good enough.' I never classified myself as anything, I just could not consider myself as 'good enough' to be a runner.
Yeah, that sounds like a lot of us adult-onset runners. We get funny notions when we start running. My funny notion was that I wouldn't be a real runner until I could keep running for 30 minutes. (For reference, the first session when I went out to do walk/run intervals I was compelled to slow to a walk after running for one minute.)
6 years later I can say I became a runner at age 55. Just hope I can get past the nagging injuries in time to be able to run 26.2 miles on April 16. Don't have to run them fast, just want to finish.6 -

@AlphaHowls I'm going to steal from @MobyCarp and say that I am also an adult-onset runner. I started running at age 48. I started out on mfp walking and after about a year of walking and 60 pounds lost I started feeling the urge to run. I probably should have started running sooner since I lost an additional 15 pounds or so after I started running. I have always been kind of hesitant to call my self a runner, but I am a runner. I run 4 days a week about 18-20 mpw so less than many on here, but more than a lot of people I know. I never want to stop running.7

Imma adult onset too...

I guess ypu can call me an adult onset runner too. I'm 44, soon to be 45, and only started running in April of 2016. I actually started with the elliptical because when I was fat it hurt my back to walk and the elliptical didn't cause pain. After a couple months and about 25 pounds lost I was able to walk with minimal pain so I started doing that. Then I found c25k and figured I'd give that a try to see if I could start running. The rest is history. I've lost the majority of the weight from running. I'm down not quite 100 pounds since January of 2016. And now I don't want to stop running because not only is it the best way for me to maintain my weight, but it also just FEELS good to do it, you know?8

More specifically, middle-age onset runner here.3 -
I started at 48 years old, about 2.5 years ago, when i was 50 pounds heavier. My brother-in-law, who got me started running, claims that you're not a real runner until you can hold a 10 minute pace, which of course is utter BS.5
-
Ugh I feel like I'm a bad runner when I don't run on the 1st of the month, especially since tomorrow is our first indoor t&f meet and I know I won't be running tomorrow. Oh well maybe tonight if all things align.

Thanks everyone on the job congrats.
@ddmom0811 woohoo great PR!!!! That’s an awesome time.
@garygse I’m so sorry the shin is still giving you issues
@runsOnEspresso My left big toe has either been black(like it is now) or gone for almost 2 years ha ha
@juliet3455 glad to hear the SAD improved with some sunny days
This type of math Hrm... doing @JessicaMcB and @juliet3455 math... I am at 1712 miles for the year so I need to hit 288 miles.... err maybe just 188 is like algebra to me, no thanks ha ha
@PastorVincent for a minute I thought what a weird toe nail
@greenolivetree sorry about that car, that really sucks
@lporter229 your last November run sounds awesome. When there are lots of lights out I wake up Skip at 5:00 am to run with me during the week so we can run with the lights looking so pretty
@7lenny7 glad the knee had no pain. Happy Birthday to Mom!
Oh geez @AlphaHowls good thing you noticed – welcome to our happy family
“adult-onset runners” I love that!! I became a runner on a dare from Skip. Don’t dare your Momma!

I started at 54... will be 60 next week. I hope no more wheels fall off.3
-
@JessicaMcB Are you certain it isn't a hydration issue? I tend to have bigger problems with hydration in the winter than in the summer. Running in the dry air just sucks the moisture out of my body and it isn't always as easy to re-hydrate. Several years back I was training for a January marathon, so December was a high mileage month for me. I almost ended up hospitalized due to joint pain. I was practically unable to move. At the time, my doctor thought it was related to my autoimmune disorder, but I have since come to realize that it was more likely a result of dehydration.2

Did you get your hips before or after you started running?0 -
Joining in on the 1st of the month and there's already over 100 posts. I hit 43.4 miles in November, so I think I'll set my goal at a conservative 50 miles for December. If I keep up with my 5K distance for each run, that means running at least 17 days this month, which should be doable. Now to catch up on reading...5

Before... got the right one done at age 24. Wore it out and had a re-do on it and also got my left one done when I was 44. They are both going strong... no signs of wear despite about 7500 miles of running... my ortho gives me the green light to run if I promise not to tell his other patients. He reluctantly attributes the lack of wear on the hips to my running in zero drop shoes.5 -

I'll have been here, pursuing my running ambition 3 years come February but always injured. Hmm.. yup always. (No wonder I'm mental). I started at 44.
You've made great progress! I'm sure you'll love it here!0 -
@skippygirlsmom My right big toe has been black for about the same amount of time. I am finally starting to see some white/clear (?). I googled once because I'm like should it be this color for this long? Apparently it takes years to grow out a toenail. Who knew?1

Adult onset runner here, too. I graduated C25K and ran a turkey trot in 2015. 2016 was horrible and I wound up having major surgery in August. 2017 dawned, I started walking, graduated C25K again, C210K, and ran my first half marathon on my 50th birthday! Wondering what 2018 will hold.5

I started running around 24 for exercise but didn't start racing until my 30s. I'm a mid pack, middle age runner but I love it. My asthma makes it difficult to get much faster.
Still chasing the elusive marathon goal. It was supposed to happen when I was 35 but that fell through. Then I tried at 36, got much closer to actually doing it. I got sick and couldn't run for months. I'm aiming for next January (2019) marathon, at 38.5 -
@JessicaMcB let me know when you do Pigtails and I can help crew/pace there, my wife has tons of family in WA and would love the excuse to head up there. Also if you ever do Leadville let me know cause my company owns the mine out there and I'll just find some excuse to get a free trip up there1

“If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.”

We're glad to have you here, @AlphaHowls !
unless you find a body....then
you are a jogger
geezer-onset here....first started running 1 month before my 60th birthday (after losing 60lbs and gaining 2 puppies)
December goal....95.71 miles(to meet my thousand for the year)10 -

SAD is improving - we had 3 sunny days and I accidentally had to use a snowmobile to get into one of the Mountain Top sites I work on. First day was breaking trail and 2nd day was hauling in replacement batteries & solar panels. Amazing how 2 days of sledding in the sun does wonders for what ails me. I guess I could have used a Helicopter but where's the fun in that?
Oh, I don't know, @juliet3455 ... I think either taking a snowmobile or a helicopter to work would both pretty pretty fun! If you ever need an electrical engineer, I am registered as a P. Eng. in both AB and SK. I do more work in SK though, in the potash industry. We do a lot of work in AB for the oil sands industry (and have an office in Calgary) but I haven't had a chance to get a project there yet.

Adult-onset running I like the term not sure it totally fits. I guess I had early symptoms(since I began running in 5th grade. I'd train for some time quit for some years and come back again) but I think returning to running after my latest injury it may now be a chronic issue.2

Had a meeting w/ my boss yesterday and terms like "cult like" were used.3 -
@7lenny7 The irony from 1989 to 2000 I worked in Fort McMurray at Syncrude for Ericsson - a Swedish based company. Electronics Engineering Technologist and Journeyman Communication Electrician. Can't say that I miss the aroma of Ft. Mac1
