Thank you, you are doing great too, stay with it2 -
Yes weve discussed keeping this group going in February and I’m glad so many people are on board!
I’m sure some people’s goals may change or get tweaked as time goes, and maybe a lot will continue to abstain.
For me personally I would like to see it go on even further than that, but I’ll take this one day at a time. I know that my excess drinking on weekends really escalated my weight gain cause I would binge drink and eat unhealthy Fri and Sat, and Sun I would eat unhealthy cause of the hangover. I feel so much better only having drinks and one cheat meal on Sat night. Waking up and reading everyones motivational stories has helped me stay on track.8 -

I agree we should continue this. I was just taking it one month at a time
I really enjoy reading everyone's stories many of which I can relate to. I've gotten to the point now where I dont feel anxiety on the weekends struggling with the fact if i should drink or not. Now I don't mind the weekends approaching. I still have to get in the habit of drinking in moderation 2 maximum. The 3 drink takes me over the edge and then I can't stop. They say it takes at least 30 days to break a habit.5 -

I’m in for February, too! I had to think about it for all of ~2 seconds. This has been the most amazing, encouraging thread and I am so happy to be a part of of it7

Best of luck3 -
I’m in for February too. I’m planning for major moderation and after the ease of going dry this month I think I’ll need all the support I can get!6

For sure, we can continue this into February. I'll make a February thread at the end of January. It is helping me so much to read all of your advice, struggles, triumphs. Tonight I went and bought two electric tea kettles. One is ceramic and one is glass- I'll take one to work. I have been substituting tea for wine. Day 17- another dry day. 17 in a row. I don't miss alcohol. But I am positive if I had just one drink , I would have two more immediately. That's just who I am. I love hearing your stories. Keep it coming. xo
Will I have to search for the thread or will it stay tagged? This is the only thread I've joined.0 -
I think u have to star it to tag it1

YAY!! Although not as perfect as I wanted to be this month with alcohol , my efforts have still resulted in a 5.6 lb weight loss so far!!12

Morning guys. It has been a cold one this week
I plan on going to the Dallas women’s march & rally on Saturday- really hoping it warms up a bit!
This cold weather makes me want to hibernate the days and nights away, which fo sho helps with drinking less lol6 -
This is my 8th day alcohol free. Yesterday was tough for me and I had the gloomies plus anxiety. Initially I blamed the gloomies and anxiety on not drinking, but I had to remind myself that I would have had those feelings anyway, but drank the feelings away instead. Oh - I've lost 6.6 lbs this week, which I'm sure most was water from all the alcohol, carbs and salty snacks.11

@dbanks80 - that's exactly what I'm beginning to wonder about. What happens Feb. 1? The question for me now is not whether I'll make it through Jan., because I'm positive I will. The question is what comes next? I definitely do not want to go back to drinking as much as I was, but I do want to continue to drink wine because it's one of my great pleasures in life. Hangovers, not so much. How much and how often are the issues for me. I've been really happy to find out that it was pretty easy for me to just quit entirely, especially considering that both my parents were alcoholics. I do know I want to drink with far more moderation than before.6 -
@JulieAL1969 - SO smart buying two electric kettles. You are really setting yourself up for success, as they say.

Have folks thought about a group? I wonder if some folks would be more comfortable being "naked" (as in the much mentioned book) in a group? Just a thought.1

I can totally relate. I am a huge wine drinker Cabernet and Champagne. I want to continue to do this until I can learn moderation 2 drink minimum. I will never stop drinking I know this about myself. What I want to stop is the binge drinking. Once I can get in the habit of learning moderation then I am good. Ok except maybe when I am on vacation then moderation will be thrown out the window. And then again I may surprise myself!!6 -

I had thought about a group as well. But for me sometimes I forget the group is there because I dont get a pop on new posts.1 -
Day 17 for me and I haven’t thought about wine in the evening the last two nights. I have also noticed that I don’t get hot at night anymore! I used to sweat and I wonder if it’s the fact that alcohol increases estrogen (which is why I think it’s a leading cause of breast cancer) - ahh I look forward to having a glass of wine again, but I love all the benefits of not drinking. Dry January is the best!11

I was getting night sweats as well really bad. I am in perimenopause. I have definitely noticed when I don't drink I do not get any hot flashes at all. Coupled with exercising I feel great.
I am so thankful because my mom had hot flashes and she was on hormone meds for like over 20+ years. I am so thankful I am not experiencing anything like that.5 -

It's true. I thought about that as well. That said, join us in the (peri)menopause group too!2 -

Same here! When I don't drink, I don't get any hot flashes during the night. I'm in the same age bracket as you perimenopausal.3 -

Mine were/are definitely worse with wine. Red wine in particular. I assume it goes with the raised heart rate I mentioned earlier too.2 -
