1/1 - 4 miles
1/2 - 5 miles
1/3 - 5 miles
1/4 - rest day
1/5 - 6 miles
1/6 - Skip's indoor track and field meet
1/7 - 6 miles
26 of 110 miles
Didn't run yesterday because Skip had an indoor meet. She was happy with her day, 6:25 in the 1600m and 2:59 in the 800m. Either are PRs but she has been mentally struggling this indoor season so she was very happy with her times. She needs to come down 10 seconds in the 1600 and 14 in the 800 to qualify for state.
Today an actual run in above freezing temps. 37F/3C yoohoo! 6.1 miles at 13:26 pace. Skip came with me and at mile 1 she started to not feel well she wanted to keep going but by 1.5 she was spitting up on the side of the road. Still she wanted to continue. Finally at mile 2ish I started towards home with her, walking mostly but jogging a bit I walked her to a place she could cut through a yard to get to our street and then went another 4 on my own. She came home and ate something small and feels much better. So that pace included one mile at 17 minutes.7 -
My garmin FR35 is not syncing this morning. I just got it at Christmas and this is the first time I haven't been able to get into such. Is anyone else having garmin issues? I am gettingvready to go for my long run and now I am worried I will lose my data.
@kgirlhart - I think Garmin is down right now. I'm having trouble with it, but my activity still made it to Strava so I know it picked it up and saved it. I can't get Garmin connect to open on my computer either so I think it's something on their end.1 -

Think it's this too. I could get on earlier today, but now GC won't load on my computer.1 -

Be careful if your still too heavy. Really easy to get injured. Hikes up hills are a good substitute and are not as hard on the feet. Swimming and biking are easier on the body also. Good luck.1 -
1/1 = 6 miles
1/2 = rest day
1/3 = 7.5 miles
1/4 = vinyasa yoga class
1/5 = 7.5 miles
1/6 = 13 miles - River Road Half Marathon
1/7 = 6 miles
Cedar tree pollen season is starting to ramp up. I am thinking of investing in a new piece of running gear....
January Goal = 140 miles / total miles = 4019 -

Reboot your phone, then re open the Garmin app, and sync again. This happens randomly with the Garmins but you should not lose anything.1 -

Jan. 7 - 5.4km finally got back out after another cold spell, as I mentioned before -40 is not running weather for me! It's supposed to warm up for the next few days so hopefully I can make up some KM.
MTD - 14.4km5 -
This week's training log is up on my blog. http://teachertrailrunner.blogspot.com/ Starting to work on a post about "why Ultra?"5

January goal: 75 miles
1/3 - 4.4 miles
1/4 - 4.1 miles
1/5 - 4.1 miles
1/7 - 9.1 miles
21.7/75 miles completed
Thanks everyone for the advice about the garmin. It seems to be working fine now. It's definitely good to know that the run will be saved even if it doesn't sync right away.
Today's run was 9.1 miles. I started out thinking I might cut it short, but in the end I made the entire planned run. The temp was 63°f which should have been nice, but it was cloudy and seemed cold. The 13 mph winds were not fun to run into either. It tried to rain on me between 5 and 7.5 miles, but never really did. All in all I was proud of the run. I feel like my runs have been slower lately, but I think overall it was a good run.

@skippygirlsmom I'm glad that Skip is already feeling better. Great for you that you have nicer running temperatures now
@DauntlessDiva I agree with MNLittleFinn - great elevation you already have! I'm only at 400m/1300ft for 2918 so far. I think the most I ever reached in a year was 30,000m (~100,000ft) in 2016, and I was doing a bit of mountain running in that year. So your elevation goal for 2018 sounds super impressive to me!
@amymoreorless Lol, love the photo! If you can't find the right gear, long sleeves and gloves work too

Didn't really feel motivated to do my long run today, so I decided to run over to a not-too-distant forest. I figured after the storms on Wednesday and Thursday, there should be a lot of fallen trees and branches on the little trails, and jumping over them would be more fun than just trotting along. I didn't realise that the warmer temps and two days of rain also ment that all the snow is gone and left only mud behind. Nothing wrong with the mud, but jumping over logs seems slightly less enticing when I'm landing in a slippery pool of icy water!
Still, I found plenty of mud without trees and some fallen trees without puddles underneath. Only a quarter of todays 17km where muddy forest, but I think that was enough for today. The way home was a bit of s struggle - I think my legs were more tired from a tempo run + some skiing yesterday than I would have expected (and the blisters on my left foot from the stupid ski shoes/socks didn't help).
I ran the entire distance my training plan foresaw, so far so good. But when I came home, I started looking for a different training plan. I've done Hal Higdon's "Intermediate 2" twice, and it worked well for me, but two weeks into it this year I've come to realise that doing it a third time feels boring. Plus I want to replace some running days with cross-training and run a maximum of four days per week. I've decided to jump into week five of this plan (the intermediate plan from this website) - that's a little less mileage my Hal Higdon plan had last week, so switching to a new plan shouldn't be a problem. And the plan has 4 running and 2 cross-train days per week, exactly what I was looking for.

Ran a little over 8 miles with a couple of friends this afternoon. Temp was 37F and the sun was shining when we started. Clouded up by the time we finished but maybe the cloud cover will mean it doesn’t get quite so cold tonight. Track work is on the schedule for 5 am tomorrow.5

@_nikkiwolf_ I've used her plans for half and the marathon I never ran. I think of all the plans I've done I like her's the best.

2.25M on the treadmill tonight. Had hoped for 3 miles, but legs felt heavy and sluggish on the back half of the second mile and my lower back had been a bit achy earlier in the day, so I decided not to push it. Hoping some good rest tonight will have me feeling right as rain tomorrow.
On a happy note, I found out today that my two preferred March races are a week apart, not a day apart as I had thought. So I could (at least in theory) run them both!

Great post!
I read an article recently about a team of researchers following ultramarathoners and studying the effects on their bodies. They found among other things that the gray matter in their brains shrunk by 6% following a marathon and took months to recover, eek! The point they made was, you really are testing the limits of human endurance.4 -
I meant to run today. I really did. I set an alarm to get up early and get to the gym before we went to a family party this afternoon. But insomnia/cranky toddler made sleep difficult last night, and my flannel sheets just held on too tight this morning. I told myself I would run after the party.
I think we all know I lied to myself. The fatigue is real. #firsttrimesterproblems #illneverbelikejessicamcb #ilikepretendhashtags11 -
No run today, but I knew that would happen. To many non-running events, including teaching my son how to bake cookies:
