Evidently today was a paid holiday for me ... which I discovered after I went to work and found no-one there. So I worked a few hours and will take the paid holiday time elsewhere. But I really could've benefited from a sleep-in day! Rats.
Home now and trying to clean/declutter some areas in the house that drive me nuts. Have bone broth in the instant pot and zuppa toscona on the stove for dinner. It's dreary here and soup sounded good.
Nothing new on the housing situation for my son. My husband and I went looking for hardwood/laminate flooring for son's old bedroom. The carpet has to go if I bring him and all his equipment home. He was a lot lighter when he moved out and was more assistive in transfers then too ... now he relies a lot on equipment that will not move on carpet.
Very disturbed this weekend to learn that a personal care aide that left our employ this past summer was charged with child rape and sentenced to 10 years jail time. He's 23 years old ... He was polite and respectful to me at all times ... just not good at personal care. I never would have connected the dots. By the news account, it seems his victim was a family member. This is the second person of our acquaintance that has been convicted of rape this winter. The other is a 20 year old man sentenced to 3 years for statutory rape. He is a clergyman's son. Sigh.
KarenVA ... I like your suggestions about "one day!" I need to focus on that as well.
Off to declutter!

Happy Monday!
Beth- Congrats on your surprise day off! lol I keep hoping for one of those...hardwood floor/laminate: look online for pick up at a local store, like Home Depot, Lowes, etc. DH and I found flooring that was being discontinued (and therefore really inexpensive) online and picked it up in store.
Janet- Hannah is gorgeous! Happy birthday to her! It is that time of year for first birthdays! Olivia, Hannah, Mia, Joaquin (some of last year's crop of newborns). Time flies!
KarenNY- I would take Rome in the rain! That fountain ornament looks like an angry Donald Duck! lol But those paintings are gorgeous! What building was this in?
Karen- huh...a tank for a tankless system? I am thinking a man must have thought that one up!
Pstegman and Sharon- I use Yak Traxx, too. They have other types of similar pull-over traction devices; many of them are spikes, though, and I would be the one putting holes in my flooring because I can't get them off outside in time to get inside to pee.
RunningMaven- I have given facebook for lent, as well. I am finding it excruciating in the morning to NOT go on, simply because I had built time into my mornings FOR facebook. But it has really been bringing out the worst in me and had to go. I just started doing some exercise during that time block.
Rita- You are still walking! Good for you! You will pull out of the funk you are in as far as eating goes. I know you can and you will. Do you have a hobby or something you can do in the evening instead of slipping off the "food wagon"? A "busy hands" sort of thing? Or an outdoor thing? Perhaps making a photography journal and document all of the beautiful and amazing things you see on your walks?
Pip- I love the fact that you got a photo of the artist who did the painting of you and the family!
Laura- keeping up with a four year old? Change your calorie allowance to "active". lol I don't know if mfp has this option, but if you lead a pretty active lifestyle, you are given more calories to fuel yourself.
Heather- So happy that DYS called you to talk!
The new bins went over really well with my kiddos. They spent a good two hours playing quietly with them. Ironically, it worked out that each child had a "favorite" bin and ended up not being the same as any one else's. So...no fights over "mine" or sharing issues. They all took a turn at each bin, but would gravitate back to whichever was their favorite. Gracie liked the bean bin with the measuring cups, spoons, and funnels; Ellie liked the sorting bin with the colored pompons and matching tubes to sort them into; Rowan liked the alphabet and number bin (puzzles), and Jackson liked the sand and rock bin with dinosaurs and construction vehicles. Easiest morning I have had in a while.
Oh! My turkey turned out! lol I ended up putting the some herbed butter under the skin (as well as on the skin), then instead of using a rack in the bottom of the roasting pan, I used celery, onion, carrots, and potatoes to keep it up off the bottom. Stuffed it with an apple, orange, carrot, celery, onion and herbs. The flavors were nice, but it still tasted like turkey. LOL! The gravy that the drippings made is fantastic! You can taste that bed of vegetables and a bit of the citrus. Hubby was impressed. I also figured out why my previous attempts at turkey have failed. The pop up timer on turkeys. This one popped up about three hours in. So I am thinking that is what all of my other ones did, and why I assumed my turkey was done. When I pulled the turkey out of the oven (when it was actually done), I sent a text to my DH "You should see it! It's beautiful!" He sent a picture back to me of the turkey from Christmas Vacation. LOL! ANYWAY! Thank you all for your advice and roasting hints! I am making the buffalo turkey sliders tomorrow night for dinner!

Joaquin, fever free yesterday for the first time in a week! Back to his normal, happy self! Turned 11 months on Valentine's Day!

Beth our Habitat for humanity store always has tons of excess laminate flooring from jobs - at a very low price.1

Kelly - Joaquin is just the cutest boy. So glad he is finally feeling better. He and Hannah are very close in birthday then.

Had the annual grandkids photo taken today. Walking in with 13 kids you see sweat form on the photographers brow and panic cross their face. It went well. We understand there will always be crying babies, goofy faces and deer-in-headlights looks. As long as you go in expecting that it's all good. I told everyone to wear jeans and black socks and I'd get their shirts. I think it turned out pretty well. I had a group photo taken and then individual families.

KetoneKaren wrote: »Rita One method that works for me is committing to just one day of eating properly, no matter what. Once I get through that one day and wake up the next day, I feel more in control. It always starts breaking down for me in the evening, too, when I am going through a bad time. I find that brushing my teeth, making a cup of hot tea, chewing sugarless gum, getting busy with a puzzle, getting on MFP, and going to bed early are all helpful in getting throught the danger zone. The key for me is getting through just one day. Hope that helps a little.

Keytone Karen: I needed this today. Thanks.
Happy Presidents' Day, friends. Hope all are enjoying a nice day, whether you work or not; whether the sun is shining or not. Here in Colorado we have a gray, cold snowy day. I'm hibernating.
Janetr: Best of luck with your ornament biz. How wonderful to share your talent. I'm not a tax advisor, but if you generate income from a home based business, I believe you can deduct a pro-rated portion of all your house expenses.
KarenNY: Have an expresso for me! Will enjoy Rome vicariously through you.
Speaking of taxes.... proud of myself for knocking out the annual workbook the tax preparer sends annually. Mailing it out tomorrow.
Since Friday, I've had a chiropractic adjustment, therapeutic massage and my teeth cleaned. Have one more dental appointment set for next week. Have not secured my medical/dental benefits yet, but will probably go on a retiree's plan my employer offers for a few months.
Okay, time to get up from the couch and get some dry beans into the InstantPot. Also a good day to make baked tofu and mix up protein smoothies to have handy.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Kelly ... Joaquin ... so sweet! Loved the sleeping photo with his hair brushed up!!
Marcelyn... the photos are great of all the kids... but you know the photo I was drawn to the most? The last one ... with the crying baby, and his very solemn siblings ... precious memories! My mom always said to not sweat photos. None of us was particularly photogenic and what the camera "saw" was who we were at that time.3 -
Adorable photos!
Went into my newly cleared arena to find DH has piled a stack of 20 wooden pallets where I have just cleared. This means War. Just emailed him and said "Pallets burn well on windy days like today."8 -
Yesterday's beautiful snow turned into horrible ice on the streets in 29 degree weather this morning. I waited til it started to get light outside and used the time to ride my exercise bike and watch the rest of the figure skating I recorded last night. My walk was in the big field behind our house...not as interesting as walking the neighborhood but safe and I got to see the sunrise and walk over 10,000 steps by 8 AM. Then we picked up the dogs so our family is together again.

Wendy I am even angrier at your husband. That was a hostile act.
Rita Glad I could be of a little help. I can do anything for one day. I just tell myself I won't actually starve to death if I don't eat whatever is calling my name, and force myself through it. The next day I feel much less desperate about food and better emotionally. I punish myself with food, even though at the time it feels comforting. It's so confusing.
Kelly Yes, I agree - a man must have invented the tankless heater that requires a tank - and
be still my heart Joaquin !!!
Marcelyn That last photo is a keeper. Such a cute bunch of grandkids. We have 3 so far, one more due in April, and hoping for 2 more! Six would be plenty for me, I already feel totally grammified.
We now have hot water. I am going to go take a wonderful hot shower.

War, casulties and bloodshed has been averted. DH has promised to move pallets tonight after office work. They were stacked in my arena by a new business partner who hasn't been told the new rules yet: Stay the Frick out of my arena!
This is a drawback of running a business from our home base. Partners and employees coming and going 24/7 parking vehicles in my way (behind me so I can't even leave) and worst of all, lazily leaving my driveway gate open which endangers my horses. Guys staying after work to drink until late at night... They are always driving through my paddocks as there are hives in nearly every paddock, and sometimes they let the horses out or let them get through the gates into the wrong paddock. SIGH.
Okay, rant over. Time to gear up and go out and count queens. Wendy4 -
Did some HIIT today. The plan for tomorrow is that I'll probably go on the elliptical some and then take the power Hour class.
Our friends just left. The hubby had a good time at the race and we had a good time playing. I'm so glad to be back to fairly healthy eating. I do plan to lay out by the pool today.
Let's see, tomorrow after exercise I need to stop at Publix. I'm hoping to have time to lay out by the pool tomorrow before we go up to see my cousin.
andrea - welcome!
We need to remove the garbage disposal, which is what Vince is starting to do right now. It never worked anyway and water was backing up into the sink when I ran the dishwasher.
Allie - that's probably the island they were talking about. I'm glad, tho, that they aren't going but that they got a good night's sleep. Can you imagine getting to bed at 11 and then leaving at 4 (which means you'll have to get up earlier to get ready)
lisa - fantatic that you didn't gain much over the weekend! So glad you and Cory had time just for you two. hope I didn't gain too much yesterday. I admit that I did overeat some trying to settle my stomach.
Went to the SPCA thrift store. Among other things, guess what I got????? Actually, they have this thing where for a one time donation of $5 (really, not much) everything in the store is 1/2price. It's good indefinitely. Today alone i saved $4 so it's going to be worth it. Then I went to another thrift store, Vince wasn't crazy about this one painting but I liked it so i bought it. It was only $5 anyway and in the worst case we can always redonate it. But we kept it. Then went to Sav-A-Lot (not sure if you really save anything or not) to get Vince bread and I got some bananas since they were on sale. Also filled up on gas. Thought about it and I really should pay the cash price and get the gas for less
Karen in VA - hope you get your hot water back soon. It's no fun and really difficult to wash dishes. Then again, on the bright side...what better excuse not to wash the dishes???
Running - welcome!
KJ - Joaquins parents better watch out when he's older. Does his father maybe have a gun?...lol They're going to have to fight the girls off.
Marcelyn - what lovely photos
Wendy - love what you texted dh. Now JUST DO IT!
Michele where it is quite windy when I went to the pool earlier2 -
We went to the local Mexican restaurant yesterday and it did not look open; but, I got out to double-check and to my surprise the door was unlocked and the phone was ringing. We rode around the building and no other cars around. We pulled over and waited about 10 minutes to wait and see if they opened. It was about 5:00 and they are usually open at 4:00 When they, didn't we went to Subway, with me asking Louis the entire time if we needed to call the police. They could have been in there tied up, hurt, or worse. He said there was usually a policeman parked under the sign at the mall and he would tell them about it. Policewoman agreed that it was strange and she'd go check, she knew Ernesto and if nothing looked out of place she'd call him and wait until he got there. l'm sure if anything was wrong, Trey will know about it. he knew when his brother got killed in Atlanta n a drug deal gone bad. Trey is our source of information about what's going on, who's died, who's sick and why, who's getting a divorce, or having a baby, and so many other things. LOL!!!4

Barbie - Wasn't the Canadian ice skaters fabulous????? WOW!!! I have recorded all the days where they have figure skating and fast forward through all the rest. I get a real kick to see what that former ice skater who is doing the commentary is wearing and his hair style.3

Woke up speaking with combined British/Scottish accent in my head, I swear. It was wonderful.

Ohh I loved Doc Martin!!! Prudence had the intro movie, and got me hooked!

Happy International Tug-of-War Day!
"International Tug-of-War Day celebrates a game where two teams compete, trying to pull a rope so that a center marker comes to their team's side. ... Tug of war was played in ancient Egypt, Greece, China, and India. It originated in ancient ceremonies, and then came to be used to train warriors, entertain kings, and settle disputes. ... Over 50 countries have formal national tug of war organizations. Tug of war was an Olympic sport from 1900 until 1920."
Allie - Glad you weren't hurt in your accident!
Dana - Welcome back! I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's passing, and all the drama that accompanied it. I'm glad you were able to see her, and hope you can make peace with your sister some day.
Patty - Deepest condolence on the loss of your husband. It sounds like you are having to reinvent yourself as you move forward. I'm so glad you found this group!
Lisa - That's wonderful news about your son making plans. Hope it means he is feeling lighter in spirit. Thank you for the recommendation - I'm adding "William and Mary" to my watch list!
Marcelyn - That is a beautiful crop of grandchildren!
Thinking of you all, and I apologize if I missed any big news while I was away. I had to skip over a bunch of pages to catch up.
We had a great weekend in Houston, packing up another huge load of Dad's stuff to donate. We decided to quit worrying about bad weather next weekend, when my brother wanted to bring Dad's mattress and china cabinet up here and then drop off a load of stuff and the river house. We reserved a closed trailer for next weekend so he can travel rain or shine.
I went a little out of the way coming home to go look at a motorcycle. I'm definitely going to buy it. It's nearly identical to my old one, but 11 years newer. The seller is a sweetheart, and he's going to hold onto it until I have a way to bring it home. So I'm looking forward to being "in the wind" again soon.
This morning was filling out forms for the estate, and tomorrow is taking forms all over the place for various signatures and certifications. If it's a light work day on Wednesday or Thursday maybe I can take a break and go look at gyms. Otherwise it'll be next week before I get to that.
Wishing you all a beautiful day.

Marcelyn - Fabulous pics. The photographer must have had a lot of patience, but did a great job. You are very blessed.
KJ - Joaquin is a real charmer! Glad he's thrown off his flu.
Yoga tomorrow. My new yoga friend won't be there as she has an interview for training as a marriage celebrant. She's very excited! She is nearly 62 and is also planning on moving and taking out a new mortgage.
Then I'm meeting my Portsmouth friend at the local pub for lunch. She's on her way driving north to take one of her great nieces on a day trip to London as a treat. She is nearly 69 and taking up a new lawyer job in May. Whoever said we are too old??
I've just ordered a GPS watch today - just a cheap one. I'm not interested in logging runs or connecting online, although you can do that. I just want a simple one that tells me time and distance. I want to know when I've run my 5k basically and how long it took me. Nothing complicated. Should arrive Thursday.
Had a wonderful veggie curry this evening. Completely stuffed for 250 calories including raita. You certainly wouldn't be hungry after that! It was butternut squash, chick peas, spinach and a red pepper, plus the usual onion, garlic, ginger puree etc. I could hardly move.

Hello Ladies! Would love to join you. My name is Jean and I’m 57. Recently struggling with losing those extra pounds I regained over holidays. Dealing with high personal stress and find myself having more comfort foods which has added more pounds. Would love to get back to maintenance weight.
Anyway, so happy I found you all!

DD is in a pickle and sad. I don't know what to say or do. We've bailed her out too many times before. This is hard.
