When the Dr asked me yesterday how I was, answered "Happy to be here!" "In Brookings?" "yes, and here in your office, maybe not so much but for the hope of getting off the Xarelto. And happy to be alive and feeling good and able to enjoy my life." Those who said our lives can change in a moment are so very right. I'm resolved to remember that these ARE the good old days, especially when worry about the future sneaks up and bomps me. BTW while the swelling may be a permanent reminder of the blood clots, I can stop taking the Xarelto when it runs out on Thursday and go back to my aspirin regime. Halelujah! Oh and he was happy with the 4 lbs lost in the past 4 months. Now that's SLOW medicine

Tumble is our younger Skye Terrier, her breeder gave her the call name "Tumbleweed." Too long a name, and Joe hates tumbleweeds like he hates sage brush. When she was a puppy she'd roll down our grassy sloped back yard, so "Tumbe" suits her. And no, it is NOT my intent to take a President Fordlike tumble when I walk, for fear of breaking something AGAIN. ;}

Katla - I think I'm going with ME I AM. Plus subtitle. Most memoirs seem to have subtitles these days. Now to wrestle with the blurb for the back of the book and the description to go on Amazon.
I am going to type up and send the boys' emails today. The fact that DH had a little cry when he read it, but still thought it was a good letter, encourages me.
It was DDIL'S birthday at the weekend and she said they all had a fabulous weekend. They are off to Edinburgh on a house swap for Easter. If DYS is doing well maybe she will feel able to show him the letter.
I'm sorry about the funeral for your cousin. When I was young I didn't know anyone who died. My grandfather was my first death when I was an adult. You must have felt very betrayed.

Run day today (raining at the moment!)and maybe more book sorting. I had a tiny pang before I went to sleep last night, but I know I am never going to read those beautiful biographies again. The space they leave is far more important. We still have thousands of books to get rid of.
I saved Darwin and Marx from the cull, because I still have an idea for a radio play about the two of them. I was going to call it Barnacles and Bumboils. (I had a play on BBC radio in 1975)

Chilli tonight. Enough to freeze. I add a rehydrated liquorice tasting chilli pepper and several teaspoons of cocoa. Makes a huge difference. I always put frozen spinach, very well thawed and squeezed, in my turkey burgers. Delicious!

Heather I like the tentative name for your book! Concerning getting rid of books (and other things you love but have little use for anymore) I have 2 inspirations to help me get rid of stuff (hard for me to do). One is my Mom, who would say, "Oh, I've had that already. I don't need it anymore, I've enjoyed it and now it's time for someone else to" and other similar wise comments. And then there is my friend Jeanette from high school. When she is getting rid of stuff, she surveys the stacks and shelves for a couple of minutes, plucks out 2 or 3 things she can't bear to part with, and gets rid of the rest! It's amazing. She keeps the best of the best, and lets the rest go. It's beautiful to behold.

Machka You are constantly on my mind, as well. We are all waiting with you for your husband to heal. I am sorry the bills are a source of anxiety for you. I think I will do as you suggest so if my partner needs to take over unexpectedly, it won't be too hard. A lot of our bills are on autopay.

I slept well.. I was woken up by the nutty dog stomping on top of me lol so I got up
having my tea now .. what I am most worried about is how I will afford health insurance... I will not be poverty level so state insurance isnt in the cards ,but I sure cant afford 400-500 a month either .. oh well something will work out..
Machka~ I keep you both in my thoughts and prayers
I am working noon-6 today so will be making some phone calls to see how to get on my own insurance and car ins
this week will be a very low paycheck as I will only be working 3 days.. dont want to use my whopping 16 hrs of vacation that I have left.

Thank you for the reminders of having our ducks in a row for when/if it’s needed.I have been very lax about it,but trying to do better.

So many things we all need to know.Where the will is,where any money is,banking,where we will live,medical info,insur info,burial info,Retirement benefits.
Very hard to think of “what if”...... but when one ends up in a hospital or care facility,so much info is needed.When SILwas in hospital,they needed a medical list for him.All meds,Dr names etc & wanted it right then.DD had to get that together very quickly.

Take care of yourself.That isn’t easy,but very important.

Machka-If you have access to DH's bank account statements, you could look on those for payments made and to whom and when for clues about when bills are due, to whom, and how much. Hope this helps. Much love to you! Waiting is so hard.

Just running through to check on Machka's husband's status... thank you for letting us know, dear, and KJ had a great suggestion on the bills. It is tough, and there is so much to think of when your mind is already in a highly pressured place. We're all thinking of you.

Allie, you sound so relaxed, and I know there are worries, but much like eating an elephant, you can just take them one bite at at time. Hang in there...

Big event is at lunchtime today - but the place looks beautiful--we were there until 10 p.m. last night, far, far past my bedtime - I'll try to take a picture today. Will be so glad when this day is over... but so pleased that the hard work was so successful for the organization. Have I said that I hate planning events? Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm good at it - but it's not fun in any way for me. People are just too chaotic in groups this large. Numbers, now, I can deal with numbers. Numbers sit still, behave, and never try to be something they're not. OK, rant over, off to my doings... a few hours that will fly by and it will all be done until September, when we'll start planning next year's!

about bills / and wills and such.. my Dad left nothing, no will and a reverse mortgage, to say its a pain in the -ss is an understatement... I will sit down one my finances are figured out and put it all on a usb for the kids.. not going to do what my dad did .. learn from experience.. going to feed DFIL and walk the dogs. that is my early morning daily.. then before work , laundry today.. meeting a girlfriend on friday and bringing Alfie.. she has a fenced in backyard.. we are going to watch the rescue dog dog show and have some lunch together

Machka.. continuing prayers for you and your husband ...

So I pledged to not eat sugar AND stay within my calorie goals yesterday ... happy to say I was only 100 calories over goal (I'm set at a rate to lose 2 pounds per week) ... and the scale was down 2 pounds this morning from yesterday morning... which goes to show you how much water our bodies retain with junky eating.

On the housing hunt for my OS... We met with multiple individuals who will be taking my son's current regular residential home (where he led an autonomous life and paid rent) and turning it into a certified group home. We did not receive enough information at this point to make an educated decision ... but I can tell you that many of the things we've been told about certified homes is untrue. Which is almost always the case when you rely on rumors. We are putting a hold on our apartment hunt ... which has not been going well ... and waiting to see what will really take place in his current location and how it will personally impact his goals and desires. My husband is really pushing for our son to try a certified arrangement. It is hard for me to process, having envisioned a different scenario, but the reality is my husband and I are not getting younger. We need to help our son realistically plan for a future that is sustainable in the long term. Nothing is happening fast though. Talk about renovations ... in this mid-size ranch (2,000 sq ft) the certified safety model is requiring $200,000 in fire safety updates!! Mind boggling.

Some thoughts please: when you keep buying junk food in between yours bouts of staying focused and on your plan....what do you do, with said junk food?

Heather: Thanks for your sympathy for my childhood self. She was sad and mad for years over the matter. My adult self still has some residual resentment. :ohwell: I think I've been carrying that around long enough & it is time to forgive and move on.

DH has been put on the FODMAP diet by his doctor because he was having so much trouble with digestion. He is already doing so much better! I am quite pleased with things. I am not thrilled with eliminating wheat flour altogether and going with rice flour instead, but it is doable. I am still eating regular bread, but he's bought gluten free bread and can eat sandwiches again. Little triumphs are a blessing. I may even get him back onto MFP to record his food.

Welcome Sue! I think that is a great question about what to do with junk food in the house when you fall off the wagon and want to get back on the wagon. One thing I do is get rid of the trigger food by bringing in to work and leaving it there! I've heard of others, simply throwing it away, someone uses their dish soap to destroy it,! As for junk food that is in the house for others, I am lucky that DH and I don't have the same triggers, I'm not tempted by his pastries and he is not tempted by my chips. Others simply have the willpower to never have it in the house and never touch it---

DH and I are going to be replacing windows in our bedrooms this Spring and of course, the might as wells have started to creep into the picture, I might as well get new window blinds, I might as well replace the light fixture, I might as well get new bedding.......yikes

Barbie I like the new fence, vinyl is so durable! My neighbors love theirs and it looks great even 5 years later. Karen

Hi all! Just done a PR on my 5k. :drinker:

Someone came to pick up the sun lounger and a retired woman is coming at 5pm to pick up the orthopaedic balance board. People are replying within minutes! She wants to improve her balance.
A man up the road with a fantastic veg garden is taking all our garden bamboo canes.
Haven't heard back from Oxfam yet, but he could be away for Easter.

This morning I typed up the letter to my sons, but I haven't had the courage to send it yet.

I did ring the cruise company to book our favourite table.

I sent a email to a local doggy day care,hotel and spa... would really like to work full time and find something with health benefits , as if I have to get my own im thinking would be like 600 a month and there is no way on Gods green earth I can afford that.. so onward and upward. and the lord will provide
