We probably could walk away,but my son is living there,and we are trying to raise money for a probate attorney...we will see nothing out of all this.but will do our best to get it done.yes it's agrivating but live and learn...my dad also got state aid, insurance and food stamps and it's true..they have first dibs on any money , anything.then the reverse mortgage people than all the others. Get what's left...hence the probate attorney..5 -

Janet OKC ~ Layla is a doll. My granddaughter had a head full of black hair when she was born, but then it turned light brown. You look too young to be a great grandmother. My two grandchildren are 6 & 8 as my son did not get married until he was 31.
Felicia ~ I completely understand about the hoarding. When my mom passed, she had four double closets full of clothes plus drawers in 3 bedrooms stuffed with clothes, pocketbooks, and shoes. A lot of them still had the tags on them. I have sent most of the clothes to Good Will but still have some very nice coats that I have not donated. I think growing up during the Depression and being poor had a lot to do with the buying of things. And, she would never part with anything willingly.

Monday was the funeral for my dear brother-in-law. It was an absolutely beautiful ceremony. Started at 10:30am with a 2 hour visitation. Photo slide show set to music. Distributed a memorial card and a small envelope with Forget-Me-Not seeds. Followed by a beautiful service delivered by their pastor. Then his daughter - my niece - spoke about her father. The many things he said and did... his little "isms". His character. The service was packed. The funeral director asked people to scoot together to make more room. And there were still some people standing in back. My BIL would've loved that - he was known for doing a headcount at events and announcing it. A testament to his friendliness and his character - the mail carrier cried when learned he died. He frequently met the postman at the mailbox just to say hi and ask about his family. He was a mason and his lodge members came to deliver the Masonic funeral rites. The placing of the apron and evergreen.
After the service pall bearers (nephews) placed his casket on a horse drawn caisson and we walked behind it a quarter mile to the cemetery. Me pushing my sweet mother (91) in a wheelchair.
An honor guard team fired three volleys from rifles. (This tradition comes from traditional battle ceasefires where each side would clear the dead. The firing of three volleys indicated the dead were cleared and properly cared for.) Presentation of the flag draping his casket.
Then we gathered at my niece's home for good food and to visit. Kids swam in the pool. We had barbecue with all the trimmings and some great desserts. Beer and wine. I think most people left around 8:00pm.
My BIL has been in our lives since I was a small child. He was always happy. Always positive. Married to my sister for 49 years. He was exceptional at maintaining connections with people. He became friends with many of my family’s old neighbors. I saw many, many old friends from my old childhood neighborhood. It was an amazing day and perfect send off for a great man.
I know my sister and niece will have some tough days ahead. A whole year of firsts. We are a large supportive family and we will have their backs. My 3 nieces are all close. They stay in touch with each other almost daily. My sister is exceptionally close to one of our cousins and to us siblings. We four sisters have a group text. For years now - we touch base almost daily. If only to say “good night” and “I love you”.
Thank you for all the hugs and kind words. Monday felt good. A celebration of his life. Very fitting. I feel more energized. A weight lifted. I’m not sure why. But, I’m going with it.

Woo hoo! Becca- Congrats on the house! Wow! That is a biggie! Obviously, it will take some time to close on it and to move in; which is good, as it will give DH time to heal and get stronger for the move.
Sue- I don't buy junk when I shop, but my DH does his own shopping, which is generally all done in the chip and candy aisles. He has a "pantry" of his own in his office. I am pretty good about "if-it's-not-in-my-face-I-won't-eat-it". Good luck and welcome!
Suebdew- Been meaning to say hello and how are you? I read about your choking scare and am so glad there were "helpers" on hand for you! All well with you and your DH?
Evelyn- Don't beat yourself up! We all slide off the wagon now and again. Jump back on and keep moving forward! You can do this! WE can do this!
I have had a funny belly, the past couple of days. Just feel like there is a hole in my stomach and not sure if it is nausea related or hunger related. Today I tried to ease the "gnawing" with a couple of three inch pancakes and some banana bread. Those are definitely NOT on my food list. But it DID fill the hole. I am thinking I need to throw more protein and carb/fiber into my meals.
Spring Break for my area begins this Friday. I will lose one of my toddlers (going on vacation), but will gain a school aged girl. I am kind of looking forward to having this young lady in my house; and kind of not. Makes my age range a LOT bigger (she is nine). So...I need to find activities to occupy a nine year old.

KJ, its only a rental house. So son it paying the monies, and we get an email four places we electronically sign. We move when son comes down with the uhaul on 6th and we pack up 7-8th! Easy peasy!

Felicia, sorry your husband is stuck organizing all that! Don't feel like you weren't a good DIL, because what she dealt with is a disease. Hoarders are sometimes actually neat freaks, but they can't start to clean because of fear of doing it wrong in their minds. So its easier to not start. Simple decision making is not possible either, because they live under a different sets of rules than you or I. My thoughts are with ya!

Ginger - the celebration of your DBIL’s life sounds perfect. So glad it lifted your spirits. You have a wonderful family and I know you will be there for your sister.
Becca - that is quick! Good luck with the move. Make sure your chief takes it easy. He will probably try to do too much.

KJ- I have been very careful; about what I eat now. Unfortunately, I got one of my bad headaches a few weeks ago and have to take a pill that is not good for my one kidney but I think maybe tomorrow I can stop taking them. The big deal in my life is my son and DDIL are planning a Huge party to celebrate my DH’s 80th birthday! I can’t believe he is that old as I’ve know him since he was 17. We’ve invited over 100 people and so far 58 have said they are coming. The party barn they were building isn’t going to be ready due to delays in construction (rain) so a tent has been rented. Sure hoping it is a beautiful clear day. Lol Last night we finalized a lot of details and DDIL invited him out to the ranch to celebrate his birthday. We have guests coming from several states so it is a big deal.Oh I forgot, it is a surprise party!!!

- Junk food - yes we all get caught. I am afraid I toss it. Waste of money I know but if it is left in my house - all of us would eat it and we certainly do not need it.

I am glad you are now free to take control of your life and make decisions for yourself. I have left everything in a with documents attached. All my important stuff is in a filing cabinet so there is place to go
Yesterday I was so tired, I went out and got takeway and of course alcohol followed. I have logged it all in my the diary - ugh! Today is a new day, I have had a healthy breakfast and I am taking the dogs out for a 5km walk whilst cleaner is here before I come back and start working again. Easter starts tomorrow where hot cross buns and family lunches abound, so we need to be on top of my game.

I'm declaring the zen den DONE! The space is peaceful, sunny and comfortable. The windows are south facing, so I've moved several of my bigger plants in. Opposite the window are 2 file drawers, down from the six I had when the space was my office. The printer and paper shredder are plugged in but tucked in the closet, so as to keep the room as un-corporate looking as possible. Today, I hung up a map of the world where I can gaze at all the places I want to visit, and think of many of you outside of the U.S.
The fitbit has been happy with my exercise routine, but the scale hasn't budged. I'm living alcohol free, so I'm going to join Lanette in doing IF and see if I can give my metabolism a jumpstart. Tomorrow DH and I see the chiropractor for long overdue adjustments. Sometimes that helps as well. Looking forward.

Felicia: I saw a show about hoarders a few years ago. It is clearly a form of mental illness according to the show I saw. I am sorry you're stuck with dealing with the mess. :grumble:

My dad was a Master Mason & had a Masonic service when he passed, no caisson service, though.
We're listening to old albums and reminiscing. We're listening to the Zombies. "What's your name? Who's your daddy?" DH hung around at the Springfield Creamy in those days and met Gerry Garcia & the Grateful Dead. He remembers me there and I do not. I went to a Grateful Dead & Quicksilver Messenger Service concert at Southern Oregon College when I was 18. It was a great dance, the best I ever attended in my memory. I danced with one of the crew--no idea who. Music enables time travel in the mind.
