As for junk food that is in the house for others, I am lucky that DH and I don't have the same triggers, I'm not tempted by his pastries and he is not tempted by my chips. Others simply have the willpower to never have it in the house and never touch it---

That is my house! Donuts and pastries in the House never tempt me, I don’t care for them. He wouldn’t eat a pretzel (which I can not stop eating if I have them around) if you paid him. It is a big help when only one of us is actively restricting Calories. I count myself lucky because my willpower is not big enough to resist late night pretzels if I had any to munch on around at night.4 -

Good morning everyone. My name is Sue. I wanted to jump in and start reading this discussion, as I'm 58 and your group seems encouraging.
Some thoughts please: when you keep buying junk food in between yours bouts of staying focused and on your plan....what do you do, with said junk food?
Hi Sue, and welcome!
Re Junk Food purchased in a weak moment: I give it to our neighbor who has 6 children, take it to work, or put it down the garbage disposal. The last option is the hardest for me, but the most empowering. Junk food is garbage. I am not a garbage disposal. I have one of those in my sink.

Thanks Karen!
I'm retired, can't donate the junk at my job, as I did use to do.
But can give it to my son to take to his job. Thanks for reminding me of that. :-)4 -
Quick posting, wi this a.m., down .4, which for the month puts me UP .4. Grrrrr. My own fault, made some poor choices a few weeks ago and clearly, the choices haven't gotten a whole lot better, but I am going to re-commit to this program and see what I can do in the next 8 weeks. That's when our son gets married. Should be able to lose at least 8 lbs, if I am faithful to the program! That would please me.
Machka, keeping you and hubby in my thoughts. Brilliant idea about accessing the bank account and seeing when bills have been paid. I think hubby would be kind of lost if I were to become incapacitated, but I do have a book where I write down everything that I pay online and the rest arrives in the mail in the form of a paper bill, so hopefully he'd be able to figure it out.
We have made our final arrangements and have told our older son where to find the paperwork. I should make a sign for the front of the file cabinet that it's in, he may not be in full control of his mind. Although, he can compartmentalize quite well and put his brain into "dealing with" gear. Step 1, step 2, etc.
Allie, good for you for looking for another job! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Sue, junk food! Well, I try to not bring it into the house to start with. I will eat it. I do buy stuff for hubby, I try to make it stuff that I'm not keen on. For instance, while I like cookies, I don't like the same ones that he likes, so I try to just buy the ones that I can live without. The other snack foods that he likes leave me cold, so that works out. Every once in awhile, I will cave while at the store and buy something that I really don't need. I do try to buy a small container of it, eat it and then let it go. I usually don't feel great after eating it, so that's good incentive to not buy it in the first place! lol That does cure me for a few months!
Okay, this quick posting is getting to be not so quick! Congrats to those celebrating, hugs for those who need them. Hope everyone has a great day/night.

Woo hoo! Becca- Congrats on the house! Wow! That is a biggie! Obviously, it will take some time to close on it and to move in; which is good, as it will give DH time to heal and get stronger for the move.
Sue- I don't buy junk when I shop, but my DH does his own shopping, which is generally all done in the chip and candy aisles. He has a "pantry" of his own in his office. I am pretty good about "if-it's-not-in-my-face-I-won't-eat-it". Good luck and welcome!
Suebdew- Been meaning to say hello and how are you? I read about your choking scare and am so glad there were "helpers" on hand for you! All well with you and your DH?
Evelyn- Don't beat yourself up! We all slide off the wagon now and again. Jump back on and keep moving forward! You can do this! WE can do this!
I have had a funny belly, the past couple of days. Just feel like there is a hole in my stomach and not sure if it is nausea related or hunger related. Today I tried to ease the "gnawing" with a couple of three inch pancakes and some banana bread. Those are definitely NOT on my food list. But it DID fill the hole. I am thinking I need to throw more protein and carb/fiber into my meals.
Spring Break for my area begins this Friday. I will lose one of my toddlers (going on vacation), but will gain a school aged girl. I am kind of looking forward to having this young lady in my house; and kind of not. Makes my age range a LOT bigger (she is nine). So...I need to find activities to occupy a nine year old.

I will sit down one my finances are figured out and put it all on a usb for the kids.. not going to do what my dad did .. learn from experience.. going to feed DFIL and walk the dogs. that is my early morning daily.. then before work , laundry today.. meeting a girlfriend on friday and bringing Alfie.. she has a fenced in backyard.. we are going to watch the rescue dog dog show and have some lunch together
I'm curious about this, Allie (and anyone else who has gone through this), because my mil still doesn't have a will -- we are trying to work on it -- and while she doesn't have a reverse mortgage and more or less owns her house outright, she receives benefits from the state which have led her (and us, by extension) to believe that when she dies, the state will take her house.
Anyway -- in that case, what's to stop the family from just walking away from everything? Instead of you and your brother (or my husband, when the time comes) trying to settle all of the debts and finances and house, why can't we just wash our hands of it all and walk away? If the person has no family at all, someone else (the state?) would have to take care of it, right?
Sorry if these questions make me look like a b**ch. As you can probably discern, I am not a big fan of my mil and am pretty annoyed that my husband is left trying to clean up her mess, even before she's gone. And I mean mess, literally. She is a hoarder like I've never seen before. For example, she has a freezer in her kitchen. When we were there last weekend (she's not living there any more -- she's in an assisted living -- on your dime -- she's never worked. Ever.) I commented on it, and my husband opened the door, and it is full -- completely full -- of fabric, patterns, and unfinished craft projects. For some reason it turned my stomach, and I had to leave the house. I spent the rest of the time in the car.
I think it helped my husband see it all for what it really is. He's already filled up one huge, industrial dumpster, and there are probably four or five more dumpster loads in the two bedroom house -- you can't even walk into one of the bedrooms. My husband said I should never go into the basement.
Sorry for the rant. But especially since she was a horrible mother, I am really resentful that we have to take care of this, and by 'we,' I really mean my husband. Because I told him we needed to pay someone to come in and hall everything to the landfill. He's not going to do that.

Hi, Sue.
I do sometimes eat junk food -- and log it, when I'm logging. (which I'm not consistently doing right now.) I have also been known to throw perfectly good food away to keep from eating it.
I read something recently which suggested a 90/10 model. Eat well 90% of the time and allow yourself time to eat the things you love for the other 10%. For instance, when I go to Cafe Yumm for lunch, I get a very reasonable bowl --(half sauce, yogurt instead of sour cream, no added protein) and it is delicious. Then I get a gluten free ginger cookie. Some people might see that as "cheating," but I only go there once every two or three months, and because I am gluten free, I hardly ever get to have good cookies. So totally worth it and I don't think of it as straying from my general focus of healthy eating.
Good luck!
Felicia

Hello ladies! I'm very happy to say that I am finally back to being able to swing my 40 pound kettle bell! I had just worked myself back up to it in January and then got sick with the flu and then bronchitis and then vertigo! Now I am relatively healthy and I worked my way back up to the 40 pounder.
Kettlebell Workout
Goblet Squat 3x5x40
Russian Kettlebell Swing 12x7x40
My husband and I are getting ready to do our keto diet for the month of April. We generally eat a keto diet when we are not going out with friends but living here we go out a lot! Now that most of the snowbirds are heading home we will be able to concentrate on that way of eating.
Have a great day everyone!

Thanks, Mary, I wish I were closer so I could hold her and kiss those little cheeks.
Congrats on the 40# KB, not sure I'll ever get there. I'm still using the 25# but doing it faithfully. I've lost 23# since Jan. 2nd and my body is noticeably changing and losing fat. I'm sticking to high protein, very low carbs and feeling great. I thank you for it and your example
