Rori, Here is Bernie at the top of the climbing pole in his three level kitty condo at The Cat's Pajamas. He is fine being boarded there. He has been there often and they love him. During Jake's recovery time I have thought of you and the care you are taking of your husband. Jake is frustrated about not being able to do things and hates to ask me to do anything. Your patience with your husband has been inspiring to me,

The sparkly t shirt is from the children's department. It is for a 12 year old. No VAT to pay on kid's clothing.
Just about to set off home.

I don’t understand it either.

Lanette we are required to keep 2 epipens and a bottle of liquid Benedryl on hand to deal with sever reactions if they happen. We have to bring them to appointment for next bottle so nurse can check expiration dates. So far so good! I keep benedryl pulls on hand for really bad allergy days. But only take one because they knock me out!

Machka in OZ I went through the allergy shots when I lived in TN for 4 years. They did help a lot then. But my move to CT brought on new ones and now to NM (southwest travels) have triggered new ones. When tested my old allergies showed up but not nearly as bad as first time. Strong smells trigger congestion and sneezing too, like perfume or scented soap. I have very sensitive sinuses. I know the shots work. Just must be patient and treat new allergies as they come up.

morning peeps
I still have the scooter, just in our mini garage since I ride now. the lady in the pic with me was an old spin class friend at the old gym, we kept in touch thru fb. she has cancer and I went to watch her do the 5k walk for st Pattys day. afterwards a bunch met somewhere and they put on a brunch, was a great time.
the scooter I will probably end up selling after retirement, will sell in California, probably will get more $$ over there. I am thinking about riding it for the last year that I'm here, maybe 2 days a week and ride bike the other 3 days. I dunno.5 -

Back home. Snow still on the grass, but gone from the roads.
Very tired. Kids were great though. We played baby hospital, Playdough, Snap, BBC games, trains, and how many balloons you can carry in one go. Max went to swimming lessons. Played chess with DH and showed him his coding.
DS went out with DDIL to visit a running shop where they do a gait assessment and she bought him running shoes. He's going to give it a go. I hope it helps him with giving up alcohol. He needs a new focus.
We had fish and chips for lunch. I had only a few chips and took the batter off the fish. Mushy peas and a pickled onion.
Glad to be home and in the quiet. Lanette - we didn't look at the house because it's not absolutely definite yet. We are going to ring the agents tomorrow to check on the vendors progress.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Quick note again while I relax a bit between grading finals.
My problem accessing the thread has disappeared now. Turns out it was caused by (=was thanks to!) my virus protection software. Apparently one of the posts on this thread had some malware in it somewhere, probably either a link or a picture. Now that my #latest link goes straight to another page it's no longer a problem.
We've got a marvelous winter storm here today. Gale force winds and dry snow blowing around everywhere. It's been great for those of us who could stay indoors; not equally great for others. The flight scheduled to leave at 7:50 this morning finally managed to take off at 1:50. I feel sorry for those poor people who had to sit at the airport for six hours. Once they've passed security there's no going back unless the flight is cancelled, which it wasn't. There's only one gate and only one little shop with an extremely limited supply of edibles - hot dogs and a couple kinds of sandwiches. Plus candy of course.
Last night, when the weather was still clear, we had spectacular northern lights. Bright green shimmering curtains flapping across the sky. Probably the best I've seen up here, though I've seen considerably better 1000 km south, in northern Norway.
Remember back in September or so, when I was at our island paradise, harvesting potatos and black currants? I'd made so much strawberry and black currant jam that I'd run out of jars and still had a couple kilos of overripe black currants I didn't know what to do with. Somebody (Katla? One of the Karens?) suggested that I make them into crème de cassis. We happened to have a bottle of vodka (a gift from a Polish friend) which we'd never opened because, heck! We don't drink vodka! So I put the berries in a 5-liter flask, poured the vodka over it, then left it and went home to Svalbard.
A couple months later, the next time I was there, I strained off the liquid. But I didn't have anything to put it in, so it went back into the 5-liter flask. (I couldn't bring myself to discard the berries, so I mashed them through a sieve and turned them into a highly alcoholic mush to put on ice cream. Yummo!) Sometime in January, we were going out to the island again for a couple days and I remembered to take along an empty bottle. After checking some recipes online, I boiled up a strong sugar solution to adjust the sweetness of the tincture. But when I tasted it, it was sweet enough already! Fresh, fruity deliciousness with no added sugar. Now I'll know what to do next time I have more black currants than I can handle.
So thanks, whoever you were!

well i have been running all morning, went and fed DFIL and worried about my sons snake.. yup he has a red tailed boa we got him when he was 10 ,so that makes the snake 23 yrs old.. with the heat turned way down even with his heating pad think he was to cold.. so I went to tractor supply and got a heat lamp, and here is hoping that perks him up a bit..
then unloaded my car that has been amassed with stuff since my dad passed and got it in the correct spots, re arranged my storage space so that summer things will be ready to go, have a table and seating for 6 with an umbrella and stand, have a fountain, the 2 rockers and table for the other corner of my patio and my lovely healing windchimes... saw something on facebook that you could hang a teapot to be used as a birdhouse so near the end of the month will hang that our for my feathered friends..laundry in the dryer now, and will hop in the shower in a bit before going to friends house...
Heather glad you guys had a nice time7 -
Kim ~ Glad to see you checking in...prayers for you and your family during this difficult time.
Love the kitty cat photos. We had a Siamese cat for 15 yrs and loved her to pieces. So sad when she passed. Since then, we have had two dogs - a pound pup and now a pom. Once the pom passes, we will have no more pets.
Heather ~ You look great in your tee.
Karen in VA ~ I love the flowers. I tried to plant a bush years ago but it didn't live.
Becca and Barbie ~ Glad your spouses are making good progress.
The two birthday girls are so cute (Lisa and Heather's grands)
I did something to my knee yesterday (stepped wrong) and it is really bothering me. OK as long as I don't bend it.
Eating has been terrible lately! I have been cooking too many starchy/fatty food and need to nip it in the bud.

Did Prevention's Belly Butt and Thigh DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do the Beach Pilates Abs, Buns and Thighs DVD. Then I need to lector at the church
Rita - I'm so sorry that crud is lasting so long. Sending you a virtual bowl of chicken soup
Windows did its famous update and I lost the post that I had going.
Made the Cheesy Spinach tartlets for Rummikub Tuesday, just will have to bake them before I go. Then we did the first cut of the grass for the year. In some places it was really lush. Then put down weed killer.
CharlieAnn - welcome
Lisa - after taking the bar of soap out of the paper wrapper, my grandmother used to put the wrapper in the hamper to give the clothes a better smell. Boy, our depression era people had the right idea. I remember a while ago I read the book "101 Ways to Save the Earth". To almost everything in there I said "my grandmother did that"
Terry - breathtaking!
Lenora - we missed you!
Becca - I'm so sorry that your sister wasn't there for you. What happens to people when they "grow up"?
Sunday here: Did the Beach Pilates DVD. I'm not crazy about this one, I think it's going to the Salvation Army. The plan for tomorrow is to do some hula hoop and then take the extremepump class.
Joyce - I've heard so much about cat cafe's. Let us know how it is.
Rori - it is recommended that you give cats a high place to jump up to, so you're doing the right thing by leaving those shelves for Mars
texcaltn - welcome back!
Betty - what I'm planning to do with the 3" cookie cutter is I saw this article online about making a checkerboard cake. What you do is make two 9" cakes, each a different color. Then you cut out a 6" piece of the cakes, then a 3" piece. You put one 9" and on top of that the other (alternating color). Then you add the other color 6" and the alternating color 6" on top of that then the alternating color 3" and the other color 3" on top, you ice the whole thing and when you go to cut it supposedly it comes out checkerboard. I think I'll try this. I wonder if I can also use that 3" cookie cutter to cut out biscuits. Can't see why not.
Barbie - Rori's patience sure is something else.
Penny - so glad you popped in. Bet those currents are just delish
Well, a few days ago I found out that the lady who said she'd sponsor us at the Country Club for the magician show can't do it, but I did find out that for $250 we can rent this room at the hotel near here where we've had holiday parties before. Right now I'm waiting to hear from the president of Newcomers if we can go ahead and get that room. I'm suspecting that she'll OK it.
Gonna post this before I forget again.

Just posted my first item for the Freecycle group. A high chair. Bea won't even sit in her booster seat now! Will await with interest to see what comes of it.
Lisa - Hayley is adorable! I bet she's a handful.
I was a lb down yesterday morning. :drinker: With no exercise today I bet I am up again, but I was very pleased. One more pesky pound to go to get back to maintenance.

As usual, I have started out with a good breakfast and pray that things don't fall apart in the afternoon and evening as usual. Checked out the Mayo Diet but lots of that seems redundant with tools available here for free; Mayo plan is $4/week. Still writing down goals, but unable to get the fitness part going. My elliptical is just right upstairs. What is keeping me from walking upstairs to use it? Tomorrow is the visit to Overeaters Anonymous with my friend. Also, start back to school tomorrow after a great Spring Break in which I focused on my own needs. Even though I am just chipping away at much that should be done, I feel better; the process is a good thing. I revisited Stephen Covey's principles and that great quadrant for prioritizing life, and it is very helpful. I bought a big planner notebook because I just need to SEE more things at once than on my electronics; plus pen and paper are easier on my eyes. My 15-year-old dog Harley now has a "mast" tumor (cancerous but in one place) so for a while he is on some meds so he won't try to chew into himself due to itching (One of the symptoms of mast tumors is that they itch awfully.) and that also means putting the big plastic collar on him whenever I leave. Just one more stressor. I learned long time ago that the "What if..." thinking doesn't work. What if (this or that..fill in the blank) were solved? Because as Roseanne Roseannadanna said back when SNL was great, "It's ALWAYS somethin'." Meanwhile, I do look forward to sharing successes and am very heartened reading how others are doing well.7

Wendy: Thanks for the nutrition link. :flowerforyou:
Heather: You seem to have a wonderful relationship with your DDIL. That is so positive for everyone in the family. WTG! The Bee cake is adorable!
Lanette & Barbie: I rode my teacher's horse for quite a long while before I started riding Arrow. She prefers that I stick with Arrow. This is a private boarding stable and they do not have spare horses or rental horses. I don't want to own a horse because of DH's health issues. Sometimes he has to be the priority and when that is the case a horse would be neglected. :ohwell: I consider myself very lucky and Arrow is teaching me skills a more cooperative horse never would. In the big picture, that a very nice advantage. From a financial perspective this is amazing. I pay only for lessons. I don't have feed bills, vet bills or farrier bills. :noway:
Lisa: Happy Birthday to the youngest grandchild. What a pretty picture! :flowerforyou:
Kim: I am always pleased when you check in. Levi's photo is charming. What a good dog! I am sorry about your abusive brother's cancer diagnosis, but more sorry for the grieving your mom and nephew will endure. (((HUGS)))
Sharon: I love it when you post. I hope the trip to Vancouver turns out to be fun for all of you.
Pip: How long before you retire? Are you and Kirby on similar count down retirement calendars? :flowerforyou:
Several of our group members are getting ready for retirement, or have been retired for a while. DH & I have really enjoyed our retirement although his health issues can restrict some of the things we used to enjoy. The loss of sailing has been tough for me. DH can no longer go on the boat without getting seasick & it is too much for me to handle on my own. I ride horses now, but would trade that away if DH could still enjoy the boat. The boat was our couple fun. Riding is my individual fun.

Welcome texcaltn What helped me get started was to take baby steps---I logged my food long before I took any steps to find the right eating plan. I walked out the door and around the block and didn't worry that it wasn't great exercise. I found this thread and read it every day. Later I added more features to my personal plan.

Heather - "Handful" is understating the case considerably. I got downstairs this morning for my second cup of coffee, and she was leading her new (pink) bike around by the handlebars, wearing nothing but a big-girl diaper and her bike helmet, and muttering something. I asked her what she said, and she said, very clearly, "I want more presents!" She's a mess, as they say in Texas. When the chaos gets to be too much for their mama, and she shushes them, a little voice will pipe up about half the time saying, "Don't shush me!" That's gotten her a couple trips to stand in the corner... She's a heck of a lot of fun, but my husband's patience with both her and her brother is much deeper than mine (or her mama's!)
