@girlinahat You look so happy skipping across that finish line, I never would have guessed you did it because you were too exhausted to run more. Very cool safe, I have to remember that!
@shanaber That airport trail actually looks really similar to a trail along the edge of Geneva airport I run sometimes I don't like replying to messages while I run. I also don't like when I just read them, decide to reply after the run and then having to deal with "I can see you read my message, why are you not replying" texts. I have actually more than once just disabled whatsapp when I go running, so that no beam can distract me and tempt me into replying. Of course that doesn't work if you are actually expecting messages that you have to answer...
@MobyCarp Impressive 5k race time, congratulations!
@RunsOnEspresso I totally get you on wanting to avoid early morning runs! I set my alarm for 7am this morning, but when it rang, I only thought "WTH? It's Sunday!" and decided I am tough enough to run later, even if it is a bit sunny. Or course I regretted it later, but at that moment switching off the alarm and going back to sleep was totally worth it
@greyparks206 That's an inspiring story about the man cheering for you, thank you for sharing. I can run much further outside than on the threadmill. Running in place is just so boring, and I know I can stop at any time, no need to run further to get home...

Hot sunny long run for me today! My own fault, since I got a really late start, in the afternoon. At least the first half was hot, 26°C (79°F). During the second half, some clouds started appearing, and a bit of wind, that was lovely I was hoping the thunderstorm that had been announced for the evening would break loose and cool everything down, but the rain never came. Just a lot of lightning and thunder during the last few kilometers I was running.
It took me about 2:10 to run 16.6km, and I was soaked in sweat afterwards. So happy to jump into the shower once I got home! I decided to already dress in my pyjamas since it was already nearly 8pm, and I had no intention of going anywhere. Popped some food in the oven, settled down on the couch - and then my phone beeps with a message from a friend saying he already got the keys for his new apartment tonight, and if I want to come over and help carry boxes? ... Luckily, it is a furnished apartment and he didn't have much, so four or five trips up the stairs, and I could go back home and return to lounging on the couch and eating chocolate. Replenishing glycogen stores and all that7 -

ETA did keep my shirt on... Lots of families out, but I saw several lady rolly bare bellies. We ran at the cold springs, so I happily pulled it off and soaked it. Feels like 95 out. (35C).3 -
@weat0043 - yep that is me as well... I don't go out w/o sunscreen and recently had a horrible, painful result when I missed a spot on my shoulder/neck and my running shirt slipped enough to expose it.
@_nikkiwolf_ - I wouldn't have and don't normally pay attention to texts but because we are here for a wedding and came early to help and run errands I pretty much had to. We had been expecting errand specifics and then had to relay them since I was out running1 -
Slept a bit late, so it was already in the 80’s when starting out. Husband and I took Lilly ( our dog) iit was a bit warm for her, but she got to jump in the lake at the 1.5 mark. By 3 miles we were ready to walk, that’s ok as was planning on 3 with 4 if we were feeling good. Hoping to get started earlier tomorrow, but we had a great day put on the lake so we’ll see if I can pull myself out of bed.
5/23 - 5 miles
5/25 - 4 miles walk

UGH. I am so slow when it gets this hot, and it is only going to get worse. I had planned to run for two to three hours, but when I crossed 10 miles, I was already through most of the water I was carrying and ready to head in. I lost around 6 pounds despite drinking several pounds of ware. Just too hot. Going to have to figure out how to run earlier in the day which was easy with my old job, but much more complicated with my new one.

This weekend was running fail. Too busy, then too much food to be comfortable running when I did have time.
Meh.2 -

@fitoverfortymom All I can say is that when mine locked I was going down a flight of stairs and because of it locking I could not get my foot on the next step going down, So quite literally I went down the stairs - and ended up in a pile at the bottom. My phone - upstairs. Try climbing stairs with only one leg - may have used 1 or 2 inappropriate words. There was a loud audible pop and excruciating pain. I had to really concentrate on keeping my toes, knee, hip and shoulders all pointing in the same direction when walking or it would bite me. Baby steps and single step all stairs.@Orphia What a inspiration it is to see your progress. Even though I've seen it before, it's still so absolutely amazing! I wanna be you when I grow up (and that Iron Nun, sister Madonna Buder). "Females are stong as hell" -Unbreakable Kimmy. LOL!
@Elise4270 The attached picture from the Mountain Madness run in Grande Cache, Alberta shows 2 very strong as hell ladies - Mother - Daughter and the daughter is 14 - That's right 14 and this is her 2nd Marathon in May.
Trail Marathons - Pine Tree covered Sand dunes for the first one and Mountain Trails for the 2nd.
Mountain Madness Trail HM today. 22.17 km in a slow 3:13:57. Still gave me AG 3rd and overall AG 2nd for the NAT series.
In comparison First Place HM clocked in at 2:18:14 and 1st Place marathon at 4:01:00.
The marathoners started at 8am and HM at 9am.
One of my Goals at all events is to finish without any Marathoners passing me, missed it by 15 minutes.
Had the top 2 men go past, km 20 and km 21, oh so close.
That was one Tough Mudder of a course with 609m of rolling elevation.
It wasn't the mud, it was the Ankle Rolling Round rocks that collect in some parts of the Hills ( gravity pulls everything downhill until friction wins the battle and they pile up in long slightly flatter sections ), the large number of tree roots that were perfect little trip lines and some rocks that had sharp knobs sticking up out of the dirt that seemed to grab your shoe and hang on. Weather conditions were pretty much perfect - cloudy/overcast with a cool breeze. I was good until about Km 14 when a root or rock grabbed my foot and I went down. Landed on my Handheld Water bottle and it blew up = no more water with 7km left, actually 8km as the course runs a bit long. I knew I would have to be cautious so slowed down. Continued on to the finish pretty much in a Walk the Hills / Run everything else survival mode. Then sucked back 3 cups of water and my electrolyte/hydration from my truck. Cheered in other runners - I stayed with a lady for a few Km's until we got to a course marshall (as she was in de-hydration trouble ) so when she came walking in I made sure she got a high five from me. She had re-hydrated and came in with some other athlete's that were walking it in to finish.
Will definitely have this on my repeat list for next year - differant shoes, hydration pack and experience to get a sub 3 on it. Some where there are pictures - will drop one or two if I find them.
Some great viewpoints but you are so busy watching the ground that you miss a lot of them.

While the hills were a killer to climb, it did mean we had some stunning views across the harbour from the cliff tops in yesterday's trail run.19 -

@juliet3455 I didn't have a specific injury moment that I can recall, but it's been flaring up the last week or so and the last few days it will catch sometimes. Today while I was doing a P90x workout it totally locked up. Not awful pain, but discomfort. I had an orthoscopic procedure to "clean out' the arthritis back in 2014 after an MCL tear that was slow healing. I was 100lbs overweight then. I am a normal weight now, but I think I did some real wear and tear on it. Ah well. Calling the Ortho Tuesday to have a looksie.
In other news, not being a big yoga person, I don't really know many poses, but the P90X cardio DVD has a vinyasa sequence with the Warrior poses and OMG it felt so good.2 -
So not posted all month practically. Very hot and humid days in Indy....weather in the 90's and no rain. We don't have central air in our house and only a little air conditioner unit in the bedroom. I have been hanging out in the bedroom when not running or at work.
May has been a good running month for me, despite the heat and humidity. 2 half marathon races...the outcomes were much slower than last years, but the weather has been hot and humid. I did post a 10 minute better race finish in the 2nd half marathon...even though still tired after 10 miles and gulped water at every water/gatorade station.
I am only 20 pages behind in reading everyone's posts which is pretty usual as this is a very active group.
My goal for the month was 50 miles.
5/3...3 miles
5/5....Mini-marathon....13.1 miles
5/6.....3.1 miles (recovery)
5/8....4.09 miles
5/12 ...7.07 miles
5/14...4.2 miles
5/19...Geist Half marathon....13.1 miles
5/22...6.18 miles
5/23....4.05 miles
5/24....6.29 miles
Total is 64.18 miles.
I am hoping to get another run in before the end of the month but my mother's 90th birthday party is this week and plan to meet with a lot of family to help her celebrate. I couldn't get the work schedule that I wanted...so have to pack on Wednesday night. Maybe I can get a short run in the morning after I get off from work.
Now to read a couple more pages of posts. Have a great weekend, everyone! Stay cool!5 -
On a non-running note, did anyone see the 60 minute report on the effort to save the rhino species? The rhinos are on a farm in a top secret place (although 60 minutes found them) in order to protect their species. They are really beautiful animals and hate that they are almost extinct.3

Were you at the Xterra Aukland? I have a pal who ran that exact race, saw an almost identical photo in his feed. I was like, hmmmm where have I seen that coastline (and white fence, and bib design)? The guy is a beast, came in 13th in his AG. Said it was an awesome race.0 -
@juliet3455 congratulations on your HM finish and AG place. You really overcame a lot of obstacles.
@ContraryMaryMary beautiful pic!
@PastorVincent not sure if getting up earlier will help all that much. I was out the door at 5:30am Saturday and I lost 8 lbs.
@MobyCarp you always amaze me with your race times, and how nonchalant you are about your blazing fast pace. Great job!
Congrats to everyone that raced this weekend!2 -
@ContraryMaryMary Now THAT is an awesome race photo! Congrats on your race
Had a good weekend. Saturday I got in a morning run home from an appointment in the city and then an afternoon bike ride with the family when we went to visit some new friends. They grow their own strawberries, and my husband ate one and did not have an allergic reaction! He suspects he's not actually allergic to the fruit, but the pesticides that are in them. Our friends said they don't spray with anything, and have had one other allergic person eat their berries without a reaction. We had the medicine ready, but absolutely nothing happened. This doesn't look good for store-bought strawberries - I've seen the reactions he's had in the past.
Sunday was a rest day. I gave myself the option of going for a bike ride... but took a nap and baked a cherry pie instead!
Today I got one kiddo off to preschool and then went out to a nearby forest. I haven't been able to find a map of all of the trails/paths, so my goal today was to make my own! When I got home, my husband was getting ready to take the other kid to school on their bikes, so I switched shoes and met him near the school for a ride on one of my shorter routes. I still felt good afterwards and did the weight machine and some stretching.
Upcoming races:
6/2 Solidarność Half Marathon
6/30 Silesian Highland [trail] Half Marathon
7/16 CityTrail OnTour 5k4 -

Temps are cooler in the AM, but Humidity is near 100%... so I guess it comes down to which demon you prefer to battle with!

@katharmonic @zdyb23456 We’re visiting my in-laws, who live by Keuka. Hubby grew up in Corning, and his parents later bought and retired into a cabin near the lake.
I don’t mind the hills here. I have my fair share of hills in Georgia.3 -
7 miles this morning with a fast finish.
Very surprised to see the pace ending up as fast as it did. Legs felt heavy, nose running, stomach kinda queasy. Felt like I was coming down with a cold. So despite all that, quite pleased with the results.
107 miles for May, 7 miles over my goal and still have a couple days to go. And still healthy. Yay!7 -

Today's Yesterday's notes – Had a hard time getting myself out the door, finally got out for a run about 5 PM. Porch thermometer said it was 86° F (30º C). Garmin reports temp at run time as 81º F (27º C). It felt more like Garmin was right, but the humidity was real summer humidity. I wore a singlet, and was glad not to have sleeves soaked with sweat by the end of the run.
Ran kind of an ad hoc route from my house, thinking 5 to 6 miles. Took a couple of extra detours at the far end to ensure it would go over 6 without an out and back at the end, and stopped right at my driveway. My major concern was whether I'd banged up my leg enough in the Saturday race to create problems; it seems like I didn't, though I still felt some of the random aches early in the run. Then after the run they were gone. Go figure.
Not the most pleasant run in the world, but there will be plenty more days this summer with high humidity. Some of them will be race days, and I know I need to run in all weather so I can race in all weather. It's not just Boston, which was easier for me than for some because I'd run in that slop before; I recall a 5K a couple years ago in weather like I ran in yesterday. I ran a PR in that 5K, and guys who let the humidity drive them inside to the treadmill for training flamed out after 2 miles.
And anyway, running 6 miles in humid, sunny weather is better than hiding inside all day and being inactive.

I rested yesterday and celebrated my husband's birthday (mine is on Friday, so we had cake for us both) with the family. It was lovely, but I definitely needed to get out and use up all that extra energy today!
My sister is going to run her first 5k with me in June, so I took her out to the lake trail to run 3 miles, walk 2. She's been really worried that she can't do the distance. As it turned out, her run keeper isn't all that accurate and is under-estimating her distance by almost a half mile over a 5K. We did a 15-minute mile and were easily conversational the whole way. I could have run comfortably a little faster, but it was really nice to have someone to talk to! We noticed right off that she was running the same speed as me, but taking twice the steps. I honestly don't understand how that works, lol, but we talked a little about cadence and I hope that she's able to run farther and faster by conserving her energy a little more.
It was cool and rainy and a really nice run!
27.75 running miles in May, 40 miles forward motion4 -
I always weigh a pound more the morning after long run, and usually two pounds after legs day! It's your muscles fluffing up with water to repair themselves!
Speaking of, did legs yesterday and today which was supposed to be a run day my knee was grumpy, so it was more of a long walk day. The good news is my knee feels better after walking than before - making progress.3 -

I was supposed to do 47 minutes but at about 18 minutes decided to head home. I was having some discomfort on the outside of my upper leg. It felt like it was originating from my hip. Probably because I have tight hips. I did stretch/yoga after my 8 miles yesterday but maybe not enough. May's goal was to get running consistently so for June I want to add in strength and stretching.
I should still be able to meet my 75 miles between Wednesday and Thursday (1.5 miles each day and usually those runs net me around 2). Tuesday and Friday are running rest days because of early doctor appointments.2 -
@ContraryMaryMary Great photo!
Maybe we should all post our best after our we did our worst. LOL I like this one. I feel like it actually looks like I'm running, most I look like I'm walking.

My pr is 12lb during an ultra training run. Hello dehydration! I will say that post run I try to get back a good amount of it by re fueling. By that evening, I got back 8.
My sweat rate is ridiculous though. Sometimes a little embarrassing at the gym when someone is on the Tm next to me, my sweat often flings from running to their Tm.3
