Went out this afternoon to run around the lake, and it was PACKED with people getting an early start on the Memorial Day Weekend. Understandable because today was gorgeous and warm, and the rest of the weekend looks not so great. I saw a lot of skin that hadn't seen the light of day in a long time and was probably going to be a lovely shade of pink by the end.
Anyway, I intended to run longer, maybe 5 miles, but just wasn't feeling it with the heat and everything felt sluggish. I also think I need new shoes so I just ordered another pair of the same model. Once I get those I want to also get fitted for something else to try and alternate them. I think I might want a lighter shoe but I need cushiony too. Maybe I'll try to hit the memorial day sales.
About to fire up the grill for the first time as I finally got a new tank of propane. Greek turkey burgers on deck an a Mango Wheat beer.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

No run today to many appointments.1

@Elise4270 I hear you. I can't run at a really comfortable pace without feeling like my form is breaking down. I guess that is why it feels harder most of the time I try to go for a long easy run. The same distance at a slow pace feels harder. But I know I can't do a full marathon at my normal comfortably hard pace. Don't think a run/walk would work either because I never feel like running after I stop to walk.
Ugh, whoever thought running could be so hard1 -

I'm still doing PT runs/return to running program. I try to remember how the surgeon wants me to run, knees up short steps, bouncy, using the glutes. My gait needs so much improvement... (I should do my PT more often so when I complain I've done my part). If I get lazy with my form, I'll be in pain.
Thanks for the support!0 -

Today was my "hill" repeat day. I forgot to take a picture of my hill to show you so you can laugh at my ridiculously flat neighborhood. I didn't plan my warm-up run timing correctly so my first repeat was not on an incline. Then I realized there wasn't an easy way to get where I wanted to go because in my head I was on the other side of the incline. I had to walk down the landscaping. 4:30 am is not my friend when it comes to thinking and speed work. I've done something to jack it up every time!
Tomorrow I have my last race until fall. It's a 5k and starts at 6:30 am. I plan to just take it easy and *try* to stick to my training run. It's a trail run but on the competitive track so I have no clue what the route/elevation will be. The beginner's loop is like 2.8 miles and the advanced is over 9 so not sure how a 5k is coming out of that. It appears it switches back and forth from the different loops.2 -
Oh, I also can't take any allergy meds this weekend so trail run Saturday and long run Sunday is gonna be FUN!!1
-
Did two miles last night, tried to run a little bit faster than previous snail's pace and ended up doing 11 minute miles, which is still sorrowful - before I got injured I was doing 8 minute miles - but better than the 14 minute miles I was doing a couple days earlier. I have to keep reminding myself not to push it.4

Got my race packet for next weekend's half marathon... way to have a local brewery as a major sponsor. That's a can of beer in the race packet!
I need to go find my bad race photos. I don't think any are as bad as @katharmonic 's or as great as @7lenny7 's, though!5 -

I’m so behind on posts! We are visiting family/on vacation in the Finger Lakes. I ran 3 miles this morning on some dirt roads around my in-laws’ cabin, which was a nice change from the ridiculously hot GA weather and my usual pavement running. I think we are going to try to get in a few hikes while we’re here as well.

@Orphia All my race photos look so grim--like I'm concentrating on a math test or something--even if I'm smiling. Yours are so joyful! I just got back from my run and they make me want to go back out and do some more!
I went to the lake trail for the first time in over a year today. It was super crowded, but looked and felt so familiar. I used to run there almost every day. Today my goal was to run 3 miles and walk the rest (about 2 more miles) and I managed it! I figured I'd be even slower than I was because of the humidity and then the gravel always slows me down a little, too, but it wasn't too bad--just under a 14 minute mile. I was ready to walk at that point, although had a 5K finish line appeared a tenth of a mile down the road, I wouldn't have had any trouble reaching it, lol.

A couple strolls with the dog yesterday and errands in preparation for the weekend of camping. It looks like the knee is tendonitis, so I was given some exercises to try and strengthen the other muscles and stop the cycle. This morning a nice slow run down by the lake. There’s a lot of hills that made it tough, but it felt so nice to be out there and so happy that I’m not starting over like I was at this time last year.

15 miles this morning.
Tried to take it slow, but it ended up being right at my goal 4 hour marathon pace. I even walked during water breaks. Just have to keep trying to go easy. Had to stop a mile short of the house and do the walk of shame.6 -
Right now I am trying to decide - go for a run at 10 on the trails around the neighbourhood or go out with the family and run the river valley trails after our outing and take the bus home.2

@marisap2010 looks like a nice run. Which lake are you near?

Really beautiful day out there for long run today. Felt a bit humid but there was an okay breeze off the lake, especially on the last stretch back to our start point which felt really good. It's the kind of weather we'll be begging for when the heat really kicks in so I'm not going to complain at all. Enjoyed a good run with some friends I hadn't seen for a while, and our coach ran with us for quite a while which is always entertaining and nice to get some time talking with him.
The rest of the weekend does not look as nice, so should get back outside and enjoy/get some yard work done/etc.

Not gonna lie, wrapping up my 9.5 mile long run before 9am on Saturday feels pretty awesome. That's what you get when you go to bed at 8:30 on a Friday night.5

I had a trail race today. It started at 6:30 and was about 15-20 minutes from my house. I left at 5:45, plenty of time right? A little cushion in case I can't find it. Well, I rolled up right at 6:30. And I wasn't alone. I saw the same cars taking U-turns and driving up and down the same streets. The issue for me was I had missed the first turn where the banners were (and wasn't part of any of the driving directions) and the subsequent roads were all blocked. Finally at 6:25 I decided to head home if I couldn't find the turn. Road closed, road closed, road closed and then wait... are those race banners? Is this where I turn? Turned and followed another car and then saw the temp pay station (car ahead of me was either lost or decided they had no money to pay the park fee).
Roll in at 6:30, grab all my stuff... or so I think and get my race bib and bib belt and started my run. Everyone else had already started as I was getting out of my car. I picked off a few runners. I was only passed by a couple other late starters. I might start last for all my trail races because it was so nice not to really fight with people to pass. The only problem was losing sight of people ahead of me and then my anxiety sets in and I think I will get lost. I know, I know.
About a quarter mile in I realized I left my sunglasses in my car. Thankfully it's pretty overcast for Phoenix. I didn't *really* need them and my eyes are pretty sensitive to sunlight. (This was after I realized while driving I forgot to put my contacts in. I also forgot my camera because I was going to hit a trail after and take some photos - it was not my morning LOL)
The best news??? I didn't have any dizzy or nauseous feelings! I only allowed myself to run on the downhills and flatter spots. I walked up inclines and when I saw my HR get too high (which I decided was my threshold). I seem to be ok if I keep the HR below 175-Max of 183ish. I didn't want to risk it so I made sure if I got to about 167 I slowed down. I think a couple of times I was close but was able to walk and recover. As much as I love trail running I am not sure I will be able to do it. I have three races in the fall so hopefully my appointments this coming week will help and I can do these fall trail races and more!
I averaged 14:16 per mile, slow for old me but about where I've been recently. My garmin unofficial time was 44:31. I had an elevation gain of 190, so way better than my normal 6 feet. LOL Max elevation was 1049. My average HR was 160.
As I was nearing the finish line I was trying to remember the photo advice. I still failed. LOL 1) I didn't see the camera until I was untop of him. 2) smiling felt fake/forced so I didn't do it. 3) I was like where are the people with the medals? (I had to go ask for the medal. They apparently stopped handing them out for us slowpokes).11 -
Well... Wyoming decided to flip the switch to summer. Last Saturday it was 36 degrees and raining. Today it is 84 by 9am. Running buddy did her duty and made me run. We were aiming for 45 minutes of intervals- her with two toddlers and me out of shape we decided a time goal was better than a distance goal. Right around 25 minutes we realized we are NOT prepared for summer, and decided on two more run intervals and a walk back to the car from wherever that got us.
2.5 today = 23/30 -
I am not counting out meeting my goal just yet, but I will need to not be a slacker. And be glad that May has 31 days.6 -

A slow 6 miles with some walking after 4 miles. It was hot and I was tired. I’m not sure if my fatigue lately is from the increased mileage this month or the calorie cutting... I’m thinking the calorie cutting.
Monday is the Run to Remember 5k. It’s supposed to rain and most of it is going to be on grass at an old airfield. I won’t be setting any PRs on this course, but it’s for a good cause.

My in-laws live by Keuka lake. My husband grew up right by Canandaigua lake. When we visit I dread running there because of how hilly it is! I live by the ocean and it’s so flat here!

A very hot and sticky parkrun this morning. Not my best one by any means, but 3.1 slow miles is better than no miles at all.2

This 6 year old is so me. LOL https://www.buzzfeed.com/laurenstrapagiel/me-trying-to-run?utm_source=dynamic&utm_campaign=buzzfeed&ref=buzzfeed&utm_term=.icN7YMkqd#.uxY9ZwzQ2
I suggest not reading the comments. There's a bunch of *kitten* trying to shame her/her parents. I thought it was cute and she was being dramatic as kids can be.0 -
Local 5K trail run this morning. It is getting hot here in Iowa (80's this morning during the run and 103F now). Anyway, it was actually 3.44 miles and I logged the extra mileage. I still don't think I will achieve my goal for the month, but going to try for a long run tomorrow and get a bit closer.
