Been away on Vacation so haven't accomplished very much this month. Did manage to spend a few days in Northern British Columbia around the town of Tumbler Ridge where my next event is. This one run doubled my monthly distance in one 2 hour shot.
Sunday, July 15, 2018 15.24 km Emperors Challenge Training Run.
From the Boulder Gardens parking lot around the upper portion of the course. The bottom 2.5km from the Core Lodge is on a dusty road so to be avoided until Race Day when it is closed for the race. Some ATV's had been through the trail doing Bush Clearing/Trimming which helps knock the grass down but creates some ruts at the wet spots so a bit of a trade off in benefit's. Walked a few sections as they are just to steep/wet/tough for me to maintain a run in them. Save the energy for where I can run.
The Strava Data - a wee bit of elevation change
@JessicaMcB If they had an Ultra in the area you would love ir.
A few pictures - which really show why I like running ( turtle walking ) Mountain Trails.

The frog? Nah. I just wiped my foot off in the grass. Tbh, I didn't even wash my foot before bed. Figured it's like fish slime. Haha!
my kinda girl!!!!
re: bugs etc. I am like a small child fascinated by insects. When I lived out in Japan I couldn't understand why none of my students were as fascinated as me watching the cicada vibrate its abdomen to chirp. Also whilst there I discovered cockroaches can fly when I went to pick one up and take it out of my flat and it went for my face.
I enjoy bugs and critters too! We have a small population of cicada killers this year. Its interesting watching them buzz the ground looking for prey. Few years back we found salamanders in some pompas grass we removed from the flower bed. Never seen them before. No idea they were even here.
Water bugs, like giant roaches fly. And the saying is that if you see one fly it means rain within 3 days. We put all bugs outside too. Scorpions, spiders and millipedes are the norm here (unless a cat brings in a snake or rat, the occasional bunny).
House roaches can be vicious. My daughter had a friend growing up who's home was infested. They bit her when she was over. If i see anything that remotely looks like a house roach, its dead. We have a neice that visits and she has them. I'm not interested in her sharing them with us.
One year we even relocated a pygmy rattle snake rather than killing it.
Didn't wash the bedding after stepping on the frog. He was next to an amonite and i think i stepped on both mearly pinning the frog. No guts no goo, just slimy frog. Sure If DH tried that id probably be WTH man!
But then i can get him to not .... And ..... Or........ .......(infinity). Frog couldn't be any worse than my dirty cats on the bed. potentially could be some "magical" benefits. I could be his princess maybe he'll come back for me. hahaha!

I hope everyone has a awesome day today! This thread really picks up my spirits and I enjoy reading everyone's updates. It helps keep me motivated to continue pushing forward on my own goals.10 -
@shanaber i ordered the topo runventure 2. I'm such a sucker when it comes to gear advertised on RW. (I also want the hydro flask growler- i have their ~20oz and love it)
These are zero drop, and I'm currently use to 7-8. So I'll have to be diligent about working them into a rotation. They are light shoes, 209oz. Said you can feel the ground, so awesome! I cant do all that cushion. (Still havent gotten dh to get/make me moccisins- hes a tad American Indian and i kid him).
I'm waiting "patiently" for my new shoes, during a taper week, on a day off...2 -

I only got 4 miles done today. I lost a contact this morning when I was getting ready and I got out the door a little later than I intended. It was a pretty uneventful run, but nice. It was 79F for my run this morning. We are supposed to have extreme heat the next few days with highs up to 107F and lows only in the 80's. I think it is much hotter this summer than it was last year. I am glad I started running in the morning.

you have no idea, but most people just think I am downright, certified crazy!6 -
What's not miserable at 95 degrees F and 70% humidity? SWIMMING POOL. On vacation (actually housesitting and caring for two dogs) planned to drag myself out of bed before the crack of daylight to run, it was already over 80 and rapidly rising so I did laps instead. Sooo nice. Tomorrow is supposed to drop to 72 so I may run then. I did take the dogs for a long walk. And then got back in the pool.
@Elise4270 , @girlinahat - I love most critters, in fact I rescued several crickets and a fuzzy caterpillar from the pool this morning, but flying cockroaches are the one thing I can't handle. When we were poor and first married, we used to live in an apartment next to a restaurant, and the cockroaches would fly right at you, and my husband said he always knew when one got in by the bloodcurdling screams. Also, cicada killers, just no. Wasp as big as my thumb? Yikes.
Signs of the heat I guess, we have discovered more lizards in our house. In twenty years of living there I've never seen ONE lizard, and this year the cat keeps bringing us dead lizards, and bits of dead lizards. So far this summer, six lizards of three different species, a golden skink, a pink and green skink, and the kind with racing stripes. What the heck is going on?

So, I learned something new today. I learned that the National Weather Service has different levels of heat advisories. Today’s level (through Friday) is “extreme”. To give you an idea of what that means, I took an obligatory “extreme heat advisory” selfie. Normally I don’t post selfies because I want to discourage MFP creepers. However, i think this might be a more effective method ...
I seriously think running in this heat is starting to addle my brain.

I think we scared off that girl who stopped by to say she was going to run 160 miles in 11 days despite being a non-runner.5
